My friend heard about The Oak Parker from another friend, so we decided to give it a try and now I totally understand the hype. Walking in, there was very limited seating and about an hour wait, which clearly showed how popular this spot is. Thankfully, the hostess told us about their basement bar area where you can grab drinks and snacks while waiting. The downstairs area had such a cool speakeasy vibe dark ambiance, vinyl music playing, and honestly the perfect date night atmosphere. The drinks were REALLY good, and you can also order appetizers down there. Once we made it upstairs, we grabbed bar seating and talked to a few people around us who all said this was their favorite spot. Our bartender was amazing -- super attentive, explained the menu well, and gave great recommendations. We ordered the wings (perfectly seasoned and so good) and the chicken sandwich with buffalo added for a little spice... absolutely delicious. I also tried the pistachio martini, and wow definitely one of my favorite drinks I've had in a while. Overall, such a great experience from the atmosphere to the food and service. I'd been invited to a house music night. Upon walking in, I almost thought we were in the wrong place! Upon entry, we saw a quaint restaurant. Then someone politely said y'all must be looking for downstairs. Sure were! As it turned out, we were escorted downstairs to what people refer to as the Vinyl Room. Service was the best part of the experience. The people working here were very nice and attentive. The food was very muchly overpriced* and average. For example, a basic caesar salad without protein is priced at $18. If you add a chicken cutlet to that salad, it is $28. It is just some lettuce and dressing with a pounded out chicken breast that is pan fried. The chicken looks huge because it is pounded out but to be fair, it was a fair amount of protein. I wasn't able to finish it. Two pastrami egg rolls are priced at $14 were more fairly priced crazily enough. It is misleading to call them chimichangas and to say there are 4 of them. These are two egg rolls. You are better off getting a sandwich. The remoulade served with the egg rolls was overwhelmingly fatty when paired with the fried pastrami egg roll. Something mustard based would be a better pairing to cut through the fat. The sauce was oddly too spicy for me and didn't mesh well with the pastrami. Parking is very tight but we got here early and snagged a spot in an already full lot just as someone was leaving. I wish they had better talent in the kitchen, especially at this price point. The ambiance, while nice, is pretty run of the mill for this genre. *I am glad they priced their menu appropriately. There aren't surprise hidden fees here. I can reconcile a high price versus an additional fee in my mind much more easily because it is honest and transparent for the consumer. If the food was more pleasing to my palate, the pricing would not keep me away. read more

Love this place!!! The bar is so cute and the vibe/ ambience is perfect for everything from a date night to just going out to grab casual drinks with friends. The bartenders are awesome and very inviting and the clientele are very friendly and engaging. this place has several regulars and feels like a neighborhood restaurant that people really enjoy. This was my fifth time coming to The Oak Parker, and I honestly can't believe I haven't written a review yet. This place is incredible. The food is consistently great, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and it's just a really cool spot to meet up with friends and hang out. I've ordered the schnitzel the last three times I've been here because it's that good--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly every time. When a dish keeps pulling you back, you know they're doing something right. Started with a pom margarita (it was well crafted, tart and refreshing) and then harissa wings ( delish, quite spicy). I've been wanting to come here for a while now and I'm kind of glad that I waited till they got established. The bar area was very nice and they actually have like an outdoor covered patio that is more of an atrium than a patio. We were there in the afternoon so it wasn't very busy. So let me just state, I realize everyone can't carry every product. I ordered a Southern comfort on the rocks and they didn't have it, I ordered a red stag on the rocks and they didn't have it, so I went ahead and ordered a beer. My friend ordered a Miller lite earlier and the waitress came back with a Coors light. And like I said it wasn't busy but we stayed pleasant and happy and still ordered our meal. All of their burgers are smash burgers but I think that's just because it's a trend not because of what they actually are. They were two quarter pound patties on a soft bun pressed down. No crisp edges not very thin and flat. It was a double Patty hamburger. The flavor was good but it wasn't what I expected. So I think next time I'm in the mood for a beer I'll come back to the bar and sit and enjoy a beer. read more

Everytime I've been to Oak Parker has been a great experience - great cocktail menu, food menu options and great service. The interior is vibrant and eclectic, and the bar area is a cute, moody corner in the main dining area. I had the So S.A.D. Which was delicious and smokey, and ordered the smash burger and fries which, Oak Parker IMO has one of the best staple burgers in the area, and it has been consistent the last 2x I've ordered it as well. I've been here like 4 times in the past 2 months, so figured it's time to finally post a review. Simply put, this is probably the best of the new spots that have popped up in Oak Park and Berkley in the past year or so. The food is great (pork schnitzel is my favorite), cocktails are on-point and creative, and the service is friendly. The downstairs vinyl lounge is one of my favorite sexy date spots. If we're nitpicking, I wish they had a better wine selection. And their parking situation is terrible (I strongly recommend ride sharing if it's an option). Service can also be a bit on the slow side, especially in the vinyl lounge where there's usually only 1 or 2 bartenders who double as servers. But none of those are enough of a problem to give this awesome spot 5 stars. read more

I was in town visiting family and had been told about this place having great food and adult beverages. This is a hidden gem! I had a great time listening to DJ Al Ester's groove and enjoying a few Guinness drafts with family. The Rubin is one, if not the best I've had. Excellent food, attentive and friendly service, fair prices, and a great neighborhood bar ambiance, the Oak Parker has it all. Tonight we went and spent 20 minutes in the Velvet Lounge downstairs while we waited for our table. A great little speakeasy venue with a live DJ spinning great tunes was a treat. Upstairs we enjoyed a great dinner of fish & chips (whitefish!) and a pastrami sandwich for the books. The porch is lovely & cozy, especially when they have the retractable awning out. My only challenge with this restaurant is the volume of the music, it's really loud. That said, this establishments motto is, "If it's worth playing, it's worth playing loud" so who am I to complain? However, the music, together with the acoustics of the place, and the fact that it's usually packed with folks- this would not be my first recommendation for a first date, or meeting folks you want to catch up with over conversation or haven't seen in a while. I've also been here for brunch and was equally impressed with the interpretations of menu standbys and the quality of the food. Went for an early dinner date on a weeknight and was seated without a wait. Our servers (all four of them) were super friendly and helpful. There was heat on the enclosed patio but it was still a little chilly. I appreciate that their veggie burger is made in house and it was quite yummy, though not meaty if that's what you're into you may want to consider a different option. It also fell apart a lot. But it was tasty. My husband thought his smash burger could have used more salt and pepper in the prep. The house chips were really good, and the pickle was unexpectedly more spicy and less dill. Really loved the sweet potato, a truly unique creation. Shout out to the mocktail menu! Really elevated our date night experience. The parking lot is small as is the restaurant but timing is key if you don't want a wait, by the time we left there was a line. Restrooms are through the kitchen and single occupancy gender neutral. Came here late night on a rainy Friday. There is a little parking in the back. I made reservations through their website, but didn't really need them. We were sat in the back patio at a table with two other diners. Patio was covered. Never saw our server for about ten minutes, but did see a couple that came in after us get seated inside and they were visited by their server immediately. They received water and drinks before we ever saw our guy. When our waiter made his way over, he wasn't in the best mood. We ordered drinks and decided to skip food due to the lack luster, slow service. I did see two vegan options I wanted to try. Drinks were delivered by another waitress. They were okay, but not great. I went off menu to order a classic for my second drink. A Last Word. They made it, but it was very expensive (yes I understand Chartreuse is more now, but hadn't planned on paying for 1/4 of the bottle). Might try to give this place another try during the week. My first visit - friends treated me to a birthday dinner as SWMBO is out of town. Thank you very much! We scored an outside table - thank gawd, because it was so noisy inside. Waitress arrived promptly and took our drink orders, which arrived promptly. I was a tad disappointed when my Ted Seger near-beer was served in the can, not a chilled glass. I used my too small (6 oz) water glass. While the server kept the water bottle full and chilled, as I was never asked if I wanted another beer. The spicy cucumber salad was terrific. A perfect blend of sweet, sour and a bit spicy. The fish fry was excellent! The fish was expertly prepared and delivered hot ... and without a napkin or silverware. Grumble. The thin cut fries were perfectly fried and the seasoning was great and did not overwhelm the potato taste. The coleslaw is a minuscule portion and of the coarse & creamy variety - more, puhleeze. The tartar sauce was another joy, not the typical mayo & relish concoction ... and nicely complimented the fries. My dining companion ordered the chicken schnitzel and would order it again. The downsides? - The landscaping guy decided that mowing the grass at prime dinner hours was a good idea. Not! - Parking is constrained, but there is sufficient street parking available with ~25 yards. Will I return? The Caesar is good, nice dressing and it comes with red leaf lettuce and Bibb lettuce too. $14 for this bowl of lettuce. The Parker salad is okay, rather bland and boring though. $6 The navy bean soup is made with pork, would have been disappointed if I had ordered it for me. The warm potato salad was pretty tasty, just didn't love the white round potatoes so much, felt like it would have been better with red potatoes. The Reuben was the best part of the meal, then maybe the Caesar salad. Thick cuts of corn beef meat inside. It's good. We began our Fish & Chips review show at the Oak Parker and we are glad we did! It did not disappoint. Huge portions (but that does match the $24 cost) the tartar sauce was definitely lacking- it tasted like mayonnaise and ketchup. The coleslaw was fresh but tasted more like cut veggies than coleslaw. The fish was super seasoned and tasted great. Great crunch and good fish. The shoestring fries were also the costar of the plate. Really good, cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly as well. I love a great neighborhood restaurant and the Oak Parker is just that. My friends and I decided to come for dinner this past Saturday. The restaurant doesn't take reservations so we were prepared to wait. Downstairs at the Oak Parker is the Vinyl Room, a cool & groovy lounge, so we had a drink downstairs while waiting for our table. Luckily, we didn't have to wait to long and were seated at a table that was right by the outdoor patio. The drink menu has lots of interesting craft cocktails. I started with the Cactus Colada which was so tasty that I forgot there was tequila in it! It comes with a crazy straw so that in itself could be a predictor of your night if you had a few of these. LOL We started with the Hungarian sausage board. Then on to the main courses. I had the veal schnitzel with the woodsman mushroom sauce. The rest of my party had the burger, salmon, patty melt, and veal schnitzel. My friend who ordered the schnitzel asked for both the lemon and dill sauce, and the mushroom sauce because he couldn't decide. He liked the mushroom sauce better. We also had three orders of fries for the table. One of the orders for fries came with the mushroom gravy and a dollop of sour cream ("gravy fries"). I usually order a side of mayo with my fries but perhaps in the future, maybe a side of sour cream. It was definitely a delicious combo. My veal was really tender and the mushroom sauce added more flavor. I will probably order this again on my next visit but the burger and patty melt also looked delicious. All my friends enjoyed their meals. For dessert, we got one of everything. - marble cake, peanut butter cookies, and chocolate kokosh cake. My favorite was the kokosh. So good! What is kokosh you ask? Well...it's like babka but wayyyyyy better as in, more chocolaty, more gooey. The best way to describe it is think the gooey center of a cinnamon roll which is really the best part of any cinnamon roll. Definitely order the kokosh.
