Food was way off tonight. Came in with my girl for a couple burgers and fries. No biggie, or so I thought. Both mine and my ladiy's burger were ordered medium rare; what we received resembled two NHL hockey pucks, only slightly warmer on a sloppy, sogggy bun. UNEDIBLE. Gross. We showed the barkeep and she agreed to have th re-made. Fast forward another 20 minutes and they were over-cooked again. I haven't experienced this here ever before. Something seemed off. Caitlyn, the barkeep took care of our drinks for the inconvenience. Upon leaving, I saw the "cook" outside smoking a cigarette and sipping off a flask. I love this place, but if your kitchen staff can't hold it together, maybe it's time to look at other options. Thanks to Caitlyn for being as accommodating as possible. I've only been up here once on a Wednesday evening. The place was packed but my friend and I were able to squeeze in the corner at the bar. It was mostly a younger crowd but there was a few people our age and older. Service was fine and the drinks reasonably priced. It was a little too loud for my liking but I can see why people come up here. It's divey and they serve food, typical bar menu. For downtown Royal Oak the prices can't be beat and they do have a private parking lot which is always a plus. read more

Ye Olde Saloon is an absolute Royal Oak classic. This place has been around since 1975--I was five years old when it opened--and it's still going strong for a reason. Nine of us came here after going to the Creative Arts Studio. I liked the look of the place, but it was not very comfortable. They only havd one cook, and there seemed to be far too much for him to do. Food was brought out as it was ready, which meant that there was a FULL HOUR between when the first person was served and the last person was served. Not good. I ordered a patty melt and onion rings, and they were ok, nothing special. But, it was very reasonably priced, which was a plus. read more

Came here for pool and a beer. Would have rated higher if the bartender wasn't so genuinely mean. Awful lady. Came around 1 AM on 8/4/2025 . I asked her why she was checking my ID at the bar instead of the door (and yes I did acquiesce). She gave me a mouthful about how she, "I can't tell her to do her job," with a few expletives and then she took the drink she had just served from me back (she also told me it was voided, but when I checked my bank account it certainly was not). When another patron asked why she was being, quite frankly, so rude, she said she, "doesn't **** around". I apologized because I wasn't trying to tell her how to do her job, just asking why I was carded at the bar (an experience I had never had, being from out of town). She then asked all of my friends and I to leave and kicked us out despite just getting the pool table. Do not come to this bar if you are looking to have a pleasant experience. They want to remain insular and closed off. Awful place. Could be better but that bartender should be fired. read more

What an amazing evening! I had a very stressful day. My job can be devastating. Today I had to tell a family that their very young son/brother is dying. I had to explain what the physicians involved did not clearly articulate. This is what I do. But, some days it's harder than others. This is when I lean on the important people in my life. Today I leaned on that person. We ended up at Ye Olde saloon which is one of his favorite bars from "back in the day." I absolutely loved it there. We had an amazing time laughing and talking. To me this is a perfect night. I had been craving hot dogs and I got my dawg! Lol. For a "dive bar" they had an amazing draft beer list! I've loved this place since I turned 21. Very few of its ilk left in Metro Detroit. Stiff pours, great bartenders, shuff and pool, all warmed in the soft glare of Christmas lights. Should be named in the National Register of Historic Places. read more

I don't know how to describe this place, except that it's the "good" kind of dive bar. They serve gourmet items such as Sloppy Joes and bacon on a stick -- and somehow the food is all better than you'd expect. The drinks are okay as long as you stick to the classics... and the beer selection is unremarkable but cheap. The trivia nights are a lot of fun. Oh yeah, you can play shuffleboard. One of my favorite bars to go to. Family environment darts pool shuffle board. The atmosphere is very comfortable people are friendly.

Weak drinks. Nice service but weak and very pricey. The burger was SO salty but the staff did not seem concerned nor did they offer a change for the burger or any compensation. Apparently when you order a drink that is a double they charge you for the mixer separately which is absurd. The only thing that's really upsetting is nobody cared about the food and nobody offered any condolences or apologies besides a shrug. So basically an inedible burger but nobody really cared. read more

I went here for some beers with a couple acquaintances last Wednesday. I just had to ask for our waitresses name so I could write this review. Kaitlyn (I think that's her name) was the best! She was super funny and helpful as to what beer they had on draft (I forgot my glasses in the car). The beer was just the way I like it, cold as my ex wife's little heart. Nothing bad to say for me. The dining area was clean, the beer was good, and I got to spend some quality time with some friends. On top of that, I got a nice little buzz on (don't worry, I didn't drive. They give you a menu and you add your toppings at approximately $0.50 to a dollar and voila you have a beautiful burger that you designed it yourself and it didn't cost you an arm and a leg. The atmosphere is comfortable the place is clean you couldn't ask for much more out of a dive bar than this. The staff is friendly and the customers are just as friendly. My fiancé and I stumbled upon this place one Sunday afternoon, and I am so glad that we did. I would definitely rate this place as more of a dive bar, but with more up to date music playing. There was some outside seating and a pool table inside. We sat at the bar and the waitress came over to greet us immediately. She asked if we were there for the burgers and I told her we had never been before, so she filled us in on the $2.50 burger special (plus 50 cents for each additional topping). I got mine with a side of fries and my fiancé got a side of onion rings. That was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The service was great and they kept refilling our drinks as needed. I have one thing to say, tachos. If you know you know I love this bar because it's like an upgraded dive bar (and I say that in the most loving way). I've gone to the Ye after an event in a ballgown and I've rolled up and sat at the bar in sweat pants and a top knot. It's the perfect bar to go to when you want to have a fun night out but don't want to deal with the visiting "Royal Oak bar hopping" crowd. The bartenders are the best and made a solid cocktail. They have a juke box so you can pick the song, a pool table and shuffle board table. Lots of seating and standing room as well. Decent parking lot as well. read more

The chef said they don't freeze their meat as they source it daily from the Detroit Eastern Market. The fries could be a bit more crispy. The tater tots were great. Checked the Ye Olde Saloon while completing our quest to visit a restaurant representing each letter of the alphabet - and I'm glad we did. Ye Olde Saloon does not have a lot of pomp and circumstance, but boy, did they deliver! First and foremost, their Halloween decorations were on point and looked very well done upon walking in. If you're a first-timer, like we were, you'll feel out of place as the rest of the patrons seem to be regulars known by their name AND order - but it will only shake you for a minute. We came on $1.50 Burger Sunday. With a purchase of a drink, you can get a burger and add additional toppings for 50 cents a topping, up to $1.00 - based on the topping (added photo for reference). The burger came out very well and bigger than it should be for $1.50. Get the Saloon sauce for your burger (and fries/onion rings). If you do, it only comes on the side and you have to put it on your burger yourself. The onion rings were good, but I wish I got a few more. Perhaps, opt for the basket if you have a hankering for onion rings or fries. It seemed like that was the standard with all of the other patrons. The service was great as the one bartender was running the show. I'll be back to hopefully soon become a regular. PLENTY of parking! read more

Ye Olde Saloon, on a Sunday I enjoy coming for the burger deal it's always a good time. You get that tasty juicy half pound burger it's always cooked right, medium check, toppings check, beer check, loser Lions check. You can count on Ye Olde Saloon, the beer the burgers and the good service. Prices won't kill you, atmosphere is usually very good, service is always good. Why not come out for a burger. Sounds like the Fridays and Saturdays nights are lot of fun, and it is just far enough out of dumb hipster RO to be cool. I almost think that Ye Olde Saloon should have that 'ye olde saloon hustles harder' t-shirts because every time the bartender is hustling. Yeah place is kind of a dive bar but it's a dive bar in a good way. With a pool table and foosball, craft beer and a grungy not so Royal oak attitude. Ye Olde Saloon definitely got me coming back. So yeah this is an update to my previous review but they deserve another four stars if not maybe five stars, but I just can't give five to the dive bar, not that I don't enjoy, appreciate ye olde saloon for what it is. And I'll definitely be back on a Sunday for my dollar fifty Burger and beer. read more

It is the place to go for $1 burger on Sundays, each topping is $0.50-$1 or, had grilled onion, avocado and jalapeno, which cost more than the burger itself. The fries are pretty good as well. Very nice little pub located in Royal Oak. My co-workers and I came over after our company holiday party at nearby Jim Brady's. Signals got crossed as we had --- the day before --- warned the establishment of the arrival of our entourage, yet only one bartender was on duty when we arrived. Even in the face of an onslaught he kept his cool and was able to effectively handle our demands until backup arrived. Quiet (until the 40 of us arrived) and cozy, this is a great p;lace to get together with friends for relaxing adult beverage. Such a great place! X-Men (Limited Edition), The Walking Dead, and Star Trek pinball tables pair well with a pretty nice beer selection. And, based on what I ate for dinner, the food's pretty good to boot. Sunday they have burgers for just $1.50 (!!!) and they're half a pound! I feel like they're actually a bit smaller than that, but they're still basically the best value anywhere ever. Really, my toppings (bleu cheese, bacon, jalapenos) cost more than the burger. I also opted to get a side of onion rings which were excellent too -- if they happened to be frozen (I don't THINK they were), they were the best damned frozen onion rings ever. Great prices, and ridiculous service from the bartender Jennifer... I've not had better service from behind the bar. It's too bad I don't live closer to Royal Oak, because this would most likely be my go-to bar. read more

Had a really fun night at Ye Olde last night... It helps that I was surrounded by a ton of friends that I don't get to see very often and since Sloan R posted this as a mini reunion on facebook, we had a ton of people come out... I'd never been to Ye Olde before, but I was told to expect a smokey dive bar. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too smokey and it had a great vibe inside. Fun music playing (perhaps a tribute to Michael Jackson), great service (thanks Sara!), darts and pool and cheap strong drinks. Another unique thing that I remember from last night at Ye Olde: Poncho, my new friend Smiley's dog, came into the bar and jumped right up on a bar stool and drank out of a glass! Oh, and they have a private parking lot - it's so nice not to worry about parking when you go out! Thanks to everyone who came out last night - I had a blast... it may have been my first time to Ye Olde, but it won't be my last! read more

I can't believe I've never made it to Ye Olde for dollar burger Sunday before last week. Don't let them fool you. The burger itself is a dollar and each topping is additional money. The waitress gave us forms to fill out with our topping choices and sides. So easy and mistake proof. My burger and fries were fantastic! There was a great variety of craft beer taps at decent prices. Our server was really nice, very patient and attentive. The only bad part about my Ye Olde experience was the oddly numerous amounts of children in the bar. Like most bars, I would not consider Ye Olde to be 'kid friendly'. I should not have to watch my words in a dark lit bar, even if it is 5pm on dollar burger Sunday. read more
