We hosted our office holiday luncheon at The Oakland, and it could not have been a better experience. During this time of year, they transform the space with their Miracle pop-up, which made the atmosphere absolutely perfect for a festive work event. Even though it's their busiest season, they were incredibly accommodating and allowed us to host our luncheon. The Owner and General Manager were both extremely responsive and helpful from start to finish. They offered thoughtful suggestions on catering and the ideal setup, and patiently answered every question I had along the way. The staff was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and genuinely funny--which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Everyone had a fantastic time and couldn't stop talking about the ambience. We stopped in on a Saturday evening and this place was already busy and packed. Luckily, we found a spot at the bar where service was a little slow but friendly. What a great place...visited last night for the first time and will definitely be back. Told bartender I liked vodka based fruity drinks with no pineapple and he created the tastiest drink ever. Love The Oakland - just a great, dark cozy cocktail lounge with good music. I had the Green Badu this time, and it was just perfect. They also have a nice list of n/a drinks - the B Nektar SOber cider was so delicious and sugar free! Rare in a mocktail. The jump from 18% to 22% auto-grat is like a punch to the gut. I usually tipped more before they started adding auto but now I don't think I'm going back. If you're going to the Oakland for drinks you probably know the cost. An auto grat that high just seems nefarious. read more

Quick review - the drinks are good but that is all it has going for them. They have incense throughout the lounge which may be a personal preference but it's a gross smell throughout the lounge. The hostess with her sunglasses and beanie was in a complete daze. They give you an hour and half per reservation which we were advised several times throughout our stay. The entire experience was ruin by them saying how much time we had left. Mind you there were 7 seating areas completely open throughout our stay. The bill includes a 22% automatic gratuity which was not deserved. It's a shame. The place had potential with their product but their hospitality is severely lacking. read more

The Oakland was on my list of places to visit when I recently went to Michigan and I'm glad I was able to visit! It was a cold snowy night so I bundled up and made my way over to Ferndale to enjoy a few cocktails. Upon entering, I felt like I was in Christmas town! They had a ton of Christmas decorations, lights, and their cocktail menu is all Christmas themed at the moment (you can order regular cocktails too). My cocktails all tasted like Christmas (yum) and I really enjoyed the eclectic decorations and ambiance. Our waiter made good recommendations on our drinks and was very friendly. I was particularly sad when I realized that the holiday cocktail pop ups that I've come to love the last few years wouldn't be happening this time around. But then The Oakland came to the rescue with carryout cocktails and glassware from Miracle! I placed my order online for several cocktails and the festive barrel cocktail glass and awaited my confirmation. A text came through to let me know my order was ready for pick up so I zipped over and was in and out in less than 2 minutes to pick up my order. The cocktails were delicious! We got the Christmapolitan, Christmas Carol Barrell, Fruitcake Flip, and the Yippie Ki Yay and all were awesome. It was good, but a bit much in the ginger for me. My only real issue here was how dark it was inside. Amazing bar!!!! I'm getting into the bar scene, and The Oakland DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! Ambiance: Top Tier! I love the decor. I love the music. Not too big, not too big. Don't expect to host a huge get together here though. Great for small groups and intimate settings. Customer Service: Bartenders are top tier. I love that the menu lists the bartenders names at the bottom so you won't forget who is facilitating your nights experience. Menu/Drinks: Delicious and Dangerous. I love the play on the names of the drinks. They do not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. Definitely different but expertly crafted. Can't wait to come back and try the whole menu. I had the moment of clarity and it blew me away. It's more potent then you would expect, but soo easy to drink. I also tried the Part-y-parcel shot. Easy, great flavor. This is a very cool bar. There's enough room to fit a group of people, but it's small enough and the furniture makes it feel cozy. The drinks are pricey, but that's to be expected given the venue. They are very tasty with good ingredients. A friend and I split a drink for two- it had apple brandy with spice and came with two marshmallows on top that were toasted and set on fire for us! It was fun. Update - nov 2019- we went for the Oakland - miracle special holiday bar and it was so cute. Apparently they're doing it for the next few weeks. You need a reservation and are given an hour or just over- depending on home many people you have. The whole bar has been redecorated and is SUPER Christmas-y! It looks great! And all the drinks are holiday themed. Drinks were expensive but so fun. And they came in fun cups. Make a reservation and check it out!! read more

A great spot for a few unique cocktails. A small drink menu but everything we tried was well made. It sounds like the bartenders can make pretty much anything you ask. Would be a five star review from me but the lack of food made this a very short stay for us. I wish they at least offered a cheese plate. It seems such a natural and profitable fit.
