Came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend hoping to catch the football playoffs and were just grateful to find a place with TVs. What we didn't expect was to be completely blown away. From the second we walked in, the bartender greeted us like we were regulars, and that alone sold us on sitting at the bar. Best decision. We're bar sitters through and through, and between the bartender, a friendly regular who scooted over for us, and literally every person we interacted with, the vibe was unmatched. I worked in the service industry in a former life, so I know how rare it is to find a place where everyone is friendly. There's usually at least one Debbie Downer. Not here. No rushing, great recommendations, and zero feeling like you're "that couple" taking up bar space. Drinks and beer selection were solid, but let's talk food because ambiance and service are only half the equation. We started with the coney dog egg rolls and... wow. Epic. Unique. Immediately set the bar high. Then we ordered the fish and chips and the short rib sandwich. The fish was perfectly breaded, the remoulade was on point, and those skinny fries were dangerous. But the star of the show? The short rib sandwich. Holy shit. I don't normally eat onions or horseradish, but somehow this sandwich converted me. The caramelized onions weren't overpowering, the sauce wasn't spicy, and everything just worked. We literally woke up the next morning talking about how we need it again. This is my second dining experience with Barrel House, and once again they did not disappoint! We ordered the Coney Dog Egg Rolls as an appetizer and they were delicious and so unique! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is a coney dog fan. The coney sauce was excellent. I also had the Barrel Burger which tasted so good, as if it was grilled in my own backyard! Rarely do burgers stand out to me-but this one did. It was big, grilled to my liking and so tasty! Other members of my party enjoyed their food as well. My husband had the Short Rib Sandwich which he said was very good and came with an au jus he really liked. Another standout was the Fish and Chips. Barrel House used to be a dive bar named Dino's. And, the term "barrel house" is defined as a "cheap or disreputable bar". But this Barrel House is anything but. The limited menu is executed beautifully, and there's a large selection of beers on tap or in a bottle. My wife has been ordering salmon everywhere lately. I have to say this is one excellent plate of glazed salmon, with beautifully roasted fingerling potatoes and asparagus. But, wow...I'm so happy I got the short rib sandwich. It's jammed with a massive amount of perfectly braised short rib, and served with an au jus for dipping. The shoestring fries were perfectly crispy. I'd normally take half of this large plate home, but this kind of fries doesn't survive a reheat. This was never a consideration: I ate every bit of them. We also ordered the coney dog egg rolls. These were stuffed with what you'd expect in a coney dog: beef hot dog chunks and chili, with green onions in place of white onions. It's served with a creamy mustard that really works, but I prefer yellow mustard. We ate at the bar, which meant some very pleasant conversation with the super cool bartenders. The food arrived quickly, and was delivered perfectly hot. Barrel House is a real find. Prices were reasonable, too. Tried the barrel house for the first time tonight. The reviews were really high on it so my expectations were also high. It's a really cute place right on Woodward Avenue. People that work there are super friendly. Had a pretty good selection of beers. I found the jerk chicken and the Braves beef sandwich a little disappointing. That's not to say that they weren't good. The beef was kind of underseasoned and there was some sort of weird tasting sauce on the jerk. Chicken reminded me of maple syrup. All in all I think the place is good, but it didn't next the reviews that I'd say. read more

Haven't been inside of this place in ages, think it was Dino's a while back. We got menus quickly, our waitress said after a while she would be with us. Looks like she's by herself for the dining area? They are out of Fish & Chips, likely from Good Friday for Lent patrons. I don't see any lobster Rangoon on the menu either. :( Waitress was able to take our order after 10 minutes of sitting or so. She said she would bring our food as it comes, since our two top table is too small for it all. Smaller menu than I would like, but a few thinks peaked my interest. Ordered crab rancini, beet salad, Mac & cheese, barrelhouse salad, feta on the side and no croutons. ~$85 The beet salad is quite good, beets are fresh and tender, the goat cheese makes this salad yummy. The barrelhouse salad is good, would be even better with goat cheese than the feta for me. The dressing is light, but flavorful. We were told after our salads was mostly gone, that they are out of the crab rancini, what in the world is up with the poor weekend planning. Argh. We will definitely be eating somewhere else after this place then. I had to ask for ground pepper after seeing our waitress take it from table to give it to another table. Pepper makes a salad for me, along with the dressing. Service here needs work to be sure. The Mac is just okay, the panko topping is crunchy. It is made with shells, cheese sauce is so-so, not as rich or thick as I was expecting though, almost too light of layer of cheese, thick layer on the top. The jerk chicken is tasty, but my first bite was half gristle. The pineapple tastes canned, water logged. The peas and carrots seems to be frozen or canned as well. The rice reminds me of Uncle Ben's rice, it's not so good. The rice should be made with fresh and better ingredients for the jerk chicken bedding, the chicken needs better trimming. We were told the chef miscalculated and there is one more order of crab rancini left. The crab rancini looks big, but it's a bit of crab and a lot of rice risotto as filler for the ball. I don't get much crab in the rancini, little tidbits mostly. Would not order the rancini again. It should just be called a risotto rancini. It's again a wait to get our bill. read more

I would go back for the happy hour. Prices are affordable but portions are small. I wasn't look to fill up anyway. I think I got a cauliflower nacho for $5 and 4 wings for $6. Drinks special weren't bad either. Well drinks were $5 and a bourbon sour was $7. I think wine was $5 too. Food wasn't bad. Wings were better than nachos. read more

Went for some midday cocktails and was very pleasantly surprised by the open environment very kind attentive service and fabulous drinks. The old fashioned was bozzy and delicious made to the proper style, the bloody Mary was deliciously refreshing. Would highly recommend this spot for some cocktails and appetizers. read more

We had a great experience at The Barrel House. The staff was super friendly and you could tell they all worked together really well which made for a smooth and welcoming atmosphere. The standout dish of the night was definitely the Ricotta Dip! It was absolutely delicious and a must try. My husband ordered the burger which was solid but pretty average overall. The fries were amazing and honestly the closest thing I have had to McDonald's fries at a restaurant which is a compliment in itself. I ordered the mac and cheese and really enjoyed it. It was creamy cheesy and comforting. Overall it is a really nice spot with great service and some standout menu items. We would definitely come back especially for that Ricotta Dip and those fries. read more

Came here before a show at the Magic Bag on a Saturday night. Around 630 there was plenty of seating. They had plenty of TVs on with college football and some of the crowd was there for that reason. They have a great cocktail menu, the drinks were solid, and they have a good whiskey selection. I had the Short Rib sandwich (like a French dip). Only comment is I wish the horseradish sauce were stronger. Their fries here are EXCELLENT. The Jerk Chicken entree was good but my partner commented the fried rice was a bit in the sweet side. The menu here seems solid so I wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm looking for some quick fare in Ferndale. read more

This is the former Dino's, the inside was renovated and about 10% nicer. Located just south of the main 9 Mile strip, very limited street pay parking, nearby pay city lots. They have roll up doors, mix of high tops and tables, a bar on one wall. Limited cocktail menu, and limited tap beer menu. Staff is nice, and fast. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday night. It was not busy. We split the Caprese salad, which was excellent. And, we split the short rib sandwich which was also very good. Good choice of roll on the sandwich. The portion size of both was good. They had beer on tap and a whiskey list. It was dark inside with the low lighting. There was a mixture of tables (high and low) for various size parties. There is a long bar area. We sat by one of the roll up doors on this beautiful summer evening. The service was great. My friends and I wanted to check this place out as it's relatively new, and I'm glad we did! We came in for drinks and food on a Saturday evening, and we were able to walk in and get seated right away. Their menu is a good size -- enough options to choose from, but not too overwhelming. I went with the barrel burger (served with fries), and a Moscow mule to drink. We were served quickly, and everything was delicious!! I loved the atmosphere here too. Stumbled upon Barrel House today while at Funky Ferndale Street Fair. Looking to get a lunch off 9 Mile and the crowd. Everything we ordered was delicious! We ordered the Chopped Caprese salad to share. Very unique and good! (I would suggest tossing the croutons in the dressing to soften them up) More than enough for 2 people. We also ordered the Crispy Chicken Club. Soo good! The breading, chicken and toppings were just right on every level. Good portion of fries. My sister had the Mediterranean Salmon with roasted potatoes, tomatoes and asparagus. She would not stop raving about! Needless to say we both were so full we boxed up what we didn't finish! Not going to waste any of it! The open windows with the breeze was just what was needed on this hot day. Our server was excellent and checked on us several times. This new restaurant is walking distance from my house so I was really excited to try it. It is decorated very cute and has a good ambiance. It was a nice day and the front of the restaurant was all open air. The servers were very attentive and our food came out fast. I would highly recommend the caprese salad but I didn't love the Mac and cheese- the crumb topping was a tad spicy for me. I am excited to come back and try more dishes. read more

I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was delicious and the fries were okay (tasted pretty much like frozen fries heated up). I like hot sauce with my fish (which to me seems standard). However, my husband said they charged 75 cents. If I picked up my food myself I would not have purchased it since I had some at home. However, my complaint is that they only put a drop (literally maybe a teaspoon) of hot sauce in the container. 75 cents for that is ridiculous. Thus, that's why I give it 3 stars. I will say I enjoyed the fish and the dill sauce. But I don't like being price gouged. My husband said his salmon tasted frozen and not enjoyable. When I first heard Dino's was closing and being changed into a bourbon bar I had such a whirlwind of emotions. On one hand Dino's was very much vital to my youth and so many memories with friends, my first apartment down the street, playing poker... ...and then on the other hand it was going to become a bourbon bar. Yummy yummy yummy bourbon bourbon bourbon bourbon. As you can see from the menu, they definitely hit it out of the park. Great choices in a wide variety of styles and price points. I did not eat anything but as far as I can tell, their food looks very good, and they seemed to have a some interesting choices on the happy hour menu. All in all a great experience. read more

I can't tell you how happy I was to see that Dino's old spot reopened into something formidable. We were walking by earlier this summer on our way to.... somewhere to drink and eat, when I heard the sound of laughter and the clinking of glasses coming from the open garage doors. I saw people eating yummy looking food with big smiles on their faces, and we had to drop (back) into our old haunt. It's been shuttered for too long, but it's back and it's as good as ever. Still a great staff (a nod to Ashley and the crew).Much like Pine Knob will always be Pine Knob, Barrel House will always be Dino's (sorry new owners). As I'm sitting here again, the seasons have changed, and Barrel House's halls are decked for Christmas. A great way to warm up is a well mixed cocktail and a bowl of Lobster Bisque and a Barrel Burger. BTW, their braised sliders and Roasted Cauliflower Nachos are pretty fantastic if you get there for happy hour. read more

We came into this place during Ferndale Pride. We loved it. On that visit, we just had cocktails and appetizers. We had the crab arancini and the chopped caprese, both were amazing. On a later visit, we had the Mac and cheese and chicken sandwich. Again, both were great. The service we received was terrific. Everyone is so friendly. The set up is really nice with garage doors that let in a lot of light and air in good weather. We look forward to future visits. read more

I've been here a few times for Sunday brunch. This used to be Dino's and recently they've changed the signage to reflect that it's now Barrel house. I don't know if this has always been the case, but this place is open, inviting, and has garage doors that roll up so you can enjoy a nice day. Service is friendly and fast. I've had shrimp and grits, flat bread, some amazing apps and cocktails. I highly recommend this spot - great low key vibe- tasty food. Believe they relocated from downtown. Happy someone finally reopened this place. It's been empty too long. We decided to try it on a Friday evening. Lucky for us it wasn't too crowded. Server was extremely friendly and helpful. Menu is a bit complex and requires some explanation. Extensive bourbon menu. Most menu items made from scratch in-house. Lots of items reminiscent of comfort food. I ordered the short rib sandwich. It was genuinely fantastic. Not fatty at all and very tasty. The side of accompaniment of au jus was extremely flavorful. My daughter and wife ordered salads. The beet salad was a little bit bland. I really look forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. The only potentially negative they have to say is how expensive this place is. I understand quality comes at a price, but they may want to consider a few less expensive items on the menu. read more

The Barrel House salad with grilled chicken was really delicious, and my partner enjoyed the (frankly) huge piece of crispy fish that came in the fish and chips. The lighting and vibe are modern and relaxed, though there is a bit of an echo typical of that style. I imagine if more people had been there when we went, it would have been difficult to hear a conversation.
