It's been a while since I visited this restaurant and I have to say it was disappointing. Met a friend for happy hour. We had a fabulous waitress, she mentioned she was there for thirteen years. The wine and cocktails were great. The shrimp appetizer totally overcooked and dry. The feta appetizer is not whipped and was more crumbly served with hard bread crostinis..there is no easy way to eat that without getting all over the place. I really expected more from the food menu especially since both of these were from the regular menu. I would come back just for drinks at the bar because of the nice ambiance. read more

Tried them again, had another special of the day: (no pic, sorry), bourbon chicken over risotto. WORST risotto I've ever had--it was like eating oatmeal. All mush. Not one firm grain of rice. Like most everything about this place.... location, ambiance, food drinks and service at all on point. It's located in the strip mall on Maple and Livernois. You can dine in or carryout. The bar is small, cozy, and quaint. The drinks are nice and strong. There are also tables and booths. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The food is tasty. My favorite dish is the "spaghetti" and meatballs which is really spaghetti squash with perfectly seasoned turkey meatballs and marina sauce. It's so yummy you'd hardly know you weren't eating the real thing. read more

Hadn't been in some time and was surprised by a few things. Very loud which I don't remember from my last visit. Melissa was our server and she was exceptional. Always checking in, making suggestions, etc. There were 4 of us and 2 ordered the short ribs and they were great. 2 of us ordered halibut and salmon burger. Went back after having several positive experiences. The waiter was very kind but service was slow and there is a definite lack of attention to detail. It took about 20 minutes before we were even brought water. My husband ordered a second cocktail which was delivered by the time everyone was done eating and normally we would have asked for the check. Things like that make the dining experience disappointing. They no longer have gf items marked on their menu... no clue why they changed that. I ordered the truffle burger on a bed of lettuce and it did not come with truffle aioli... which is a pretty necessary part of a truffle burger. The used to have a gf burger bun but no longer offer that. Again, it's just a lack of attention to detail. It's still an ok place and I would probably go back but it doesn't blow me away. read more

Lemon Rice Chicken is a perfect treat for a cold day, or any day to be honest. Simply delicious! Also, their Brussels sprouts are a must. We ordered the walleye and it was good. It's served on a bed of potato's with a wine sauce. Their lamb shank plate is definitely a shareable plate and the steak and frites comes with a good size piece and is very flavorful. Had my birthday dinner here last Tuesday. Sadly disappointed because The Roberts group restaurants are always good and always my favorite to go places because of their consistency over the years. Well prepared and interesting food coupled by smart efficient friendly attentive service in attractive surroundings, I have been to all but never here. Well... sort of surprised , The first red flag was the restaurant had few diners even during the week. I have never been in one of these restaurants where it wasn't filled with patrons, We were seated near the bathroom which was annoying but a blessing by the end of my meal. I had the soup of the day. A gazpacho. I ordered a cup and the server brought out a bowl. I asked my friend with me. "Had I not order a cup?" and they said, "yes"I had. I was told by the waitress that I would not be charged for the bowl and then just left it for me. I proceeded to eat it and was uneasy not only by the way it looked, but there was underlying ingredient some sort of oil making it overly rich or heavy tasting even though the taste was acceptable but not great? It essentially was a puréed Vegetable soup of a disagreeable muddy yellow color in a very large shallow bowl. A little scary looking, mostly to the person across from me looking at it. Not an appetizing color. I had asked the wait person about two options I was interested in for a main course, one of which was a beef and broccoli bowl, which I ordered, The main ingredients were fine but less a stir fry and more braised in liquid more like a soup. The taste however was disappointing because it was exactly the same flavors as chop suey. An Americanized Cantonese dish made by most housewives of the 1920's, great if my grandmother was still alive and made it for us , her's was much better but this was a mediocre version and a very unexpected taste profile in these restaurants. Very uninspired or original, mediocre at best. I had a dessert and probably shouldn't have, more mediocrity, interesting idea that fell short.? A peanut butter mousse chilled with two thin slices of banana with a hard Carmel glaze sort of like a Bananas Foster, decent, except for what seemed to be Hershey's ? chocolate syrup over the peanut butter mousse? Not great ?! After the meal with short warning it was off to the restroom, now I was glad it was close by. Our server was presentable, but not engaging like they usually are in the other restaurants, remote and sensed a little indifference, also, very unlike anything I've experienced with. R group R. . I was also charged for the laxative soup. The person I was with, who rarely has anything to say about restaurant service was politely disparaging in the attitude of the server and particularity the soup incident charging me for a bowl of soup she didn't even want to look at and then the effect of it had immediately and for few days after, Over all I'd give this place a D grade and an F in the Robert's lineup of Restaurants. I rarely write a review, but felt compelled because I enjoy these restaurants, but not this one. Hoping they read this. A disappointing birthday memory. read more

When both my friend (Ali K) and my mom (Judy K) suggested Cafe ML for dinner for our party of five on a Tuesday night (tonight), I made a reservation immediately, because... well how often do you get a group of five women to agree on a restaurant that easily? It was no problem to accommodate us, so when we walked in around 6:15 to a very jam packed restaurant on the eve of a major snowstorm, I was pleasantly surprised! Service was spot on as were the drinks, food and company... We started with edamame, hummus and brussels sprouts appetizers and had a mix of fatoush salads, burger and fries for entrees. It's the tale of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The service was very good, 5 stars. The ahi tuna appetizer was a home run, 5 stars, could have had two orders as a main course write home about good. The Waller was good but not write home about. Liked it, but not a love. It is pan fried then oven baked. Can't complain, it was good, just not great, 4 stars. The ugly was the Singapore noodles. Singapore noodles are either great or awful. There is no in between. These were send back awful. Shrimp and chicken over cooked, the sauce was terrible, with egregious amount of salt, almost inedible 0 stars. Had a burger. They usually make it on a flat grill. I asked them to put it on the char grill, which they did. Extra onions and no bun. It turned out a perfect med rare with a fire taste. Just delicious as we're the perfect crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside fries. Both get 5 stars. read more

We tried 4 appetizers, I decided on the short rib buns because of all the pictures on other reviews. However I don't think they were worth it. Meat was cut very thin and they were tiny (don't let the photos fool you). I did love the other appetizer though, the baked feta was amazing. Lots of pine nuts, could have used more pita pieces because I ran out. Service was great, our waitress was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. She also stayed nice even though we didn't order alcohol. If I lived in the area I would go back to try an entree but we were visiting from out of town. read more

We originally wanted to meet some friends here for lunch but they had conflicts so we did it by ourselves. They open at 2pm so it's a late lunch at that but we were out and about anyway and it didn't really matter to us. After a friendly greeting we were told that they currently offer dine in inside or patio and it was a nice mild day so we decided to try the Patio. It was comfortable and not too busy when we were there so customers were seated at reasonable distances from each other. There were heaters above that were a bit too warm for that mild weather but would be comfortable if it was much colder. They also limit group size to six for now. We had been studying the Yelp reviews, photos, and menus for a while leading up to our visit. Unfortunately, two of the dishes my wife had selected from photos were not currently on the menu so she took another look for something else to order! I didn't have any problem as I was going to order the ML Burger because it seemed like a popular item based on the number of photos and descriptions. I also ordered the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) minus the Cashews due to allergies. My wife decided on the Singapore Noodle Bowl with Tofu and we went into anticipation mode! The KFC came out fairly quickly so we got started. These are boneless almost like Chicken Tenders and had a little spicy sauce that my wife didn't really care for, but I liked it. It is served with some sauced Cucumber slices that help offset the heat. Then our main dishes arrived and we continued. The ML Burger and Fries definitely deserves the hype. I ordered it medium and that's exactly what I got. With Truffle Cheese and Truffle Aioli I was concerned it might be too strong but the flavors were nicely balanced; and I really enjoyed the Fries as well. The Singapore Noodle Bowl my wife said was disappointing and lacked flavor. I tasted it and have to say I agree, of course that's compared with one of the best Burgers I've had in years. Cafe ML has a very eclectic menu that is changed up periodically with a nice selection of interesting choices along with helpful and friendly service. Nightmare. This place used to be an old standby but no more. The quality of the food has gone downhill. The managment staff is great but our server seemed like she had more experience at a coney than with upscale dinning. I ordered the crab cake burger with no bun and the asparagus soup. The quality of the crab meat has changed for the worse. Probably easy to hide in a bun but without the bun it was sloppy poor quality. The fries are homemade but greasy. When I unrolled my mailing there were rumba inside of it and our waitress seemed annoyed when I brought it to her attention and asked for a replacement. managment is awesome and on top of it but it seems they may be using lower quality ingredients and could do a better job with waitstaff. I will be back in a few months to see if they make any improvements. read more

Posting an update from my Son's valentine's day visit with the gift certificate the owner sent to encourage me to give them another try. Ahi tuna- excellent. Perfect amount of acid and sweetness balanced with salt. The small diced cucumber and red onion gave it an excellent texture and the crispy wontons gave it a much needed crunch Korean fried chicken- perfection. Smokey and spicy, crispy enough to hold all of the sauce without getting soggy and the marinated cucumbers help cut through the heat perfectly. Baked feta- a salt bomb in the best way. The roasted peppers adds the sweetness needed to help mellow out all the salt from the olives, capers, and feta Shrimp pad Thai- very good. We ordered it at a medium spice level but didn't seem to have much kick at all. Flavors were balanced nicely and shrimp was cook perfectly Singapore street noodles with chicken- also very good. Chicken was incredibly tender and packed with flavors. The noodles were cooked perfectly and still had a good bite to them. The sauce was excellent with great flavors and consistency. Red velvet cake-fantastic. Perfectly soft and very moist. The frosting was delicious and the marinated strawberries almost made us lick the plate clean. First time eating at Cafe ML and I loved it. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance! I ordered the Brussel sprouts, that I believe, were flash fried with a vinaigrette, not sure, but they were yummy! I tasted the spiced edamame, which was different than plain edamame- really good! The fries looked and smelled amazing, didn't taste, but the ladies at my table loved them - will get them next time. I was here for appetizers, but the dinner menu is amazing and by the judge if the appetizers, the food is probably splendid! Again, the decor is modern-elegance, definitely to my liking. This a good date night, or meeting place for two friends or large groups. Next to the bar there are nice comfortable bar tables and the dining room seemed very nice. One comment is the "bar stools" could use a back, I could envision leaning back and whoops - that would be a bad night! Last, the martinis are very reasonably priced at $6.00! read more

Love the menu -- so many choices that would've made me happy. I was with a group of 10 people and our service was very good. I ordered the ahi poke bowl and it was presented very nicely and was delicious. It was a tad on the pricey side, and was actually smaller than many I've had. This was my second time at the restaurant, my first time being right after they opened years ago. I didn't like it then, and all these years later, I still don't like it. Given the noise level and people in the restaurant, I'm guessing they won't care if I return or not, but I need to review my meal. It was awful. And the service was worse. Okay, to be fair, the lemony rice chicken soup was pretty good, despite our server forgetting to bring it before our meal as requested. After a reminder, it arrived right before our awful main courses. I had turkey meatballs that I shared with my cousin. They were lukewarm/cool and so dense it actually took effort to cut them. The spaghetti squash was soggy and the marinara was bland/boring. The whipped ricotta/feta I ordered on the side was forgotten by the server. We asked another server for it. They need to learn what "whipped" means. Awful. My sister ate a fatoush salad. She didn't complain. My one cousin ordered walleye. One bite and she stopped eating it saying it didn't taste like walleye. She thought it was tilapia, but we were told they don't have talapia on the premises. She got the turkey meatballs instead, but barely ate them because they were so awful. My other cousin ordered the ribs to share with me. I ate two but didn't really care for the seasoning. The coleslaw served with the ribs was horrible. Our server might have been new, so I won't comment on him. I have no reason to ever return. read more

Café ML is a suburban eatery tucked into a corner of a strip mall. The restaurant opens into a small bar area populated by raised booths. Narrow garage doors lead to an outdoor dining area, now enclosed as much colder weather approaches. It was game night so the bar area was filled with fans. However, tables turned fairly quickly so nobody stood around for too long. The menu is different from what you will find from the typical neighborhood restaurant. Some interesting apps on the menu include tuna poke, ceviche, baked feta, steamed buns, and noodle/rice bowls. My friend recommended the Brussels sprouts, not that I would ever turn that down, and I was drawn to the steamed buns. They were both good choices. The Brussels sprouts were nicely crisped and charred; there was a hint of sweetness with the spiciness building with each additional bite. The buns were lovely: fluffy, soft, and slightly sweet, they went well with the short rib in Hoisin sauce. The spicy and savory kimchi complemented the overall flavors. As well, I enjoyed the rainbow trout that was served with sorghum, chickpeas, and assorted vegetables. It was delicious, as well as being relatively healthy (the fish was pan fried). I'm glad that I picked it over the burger, as delicious as that looked. I do regret not getting the heap of beautifully-glazed ribs. Two bowls passed by going to other guests and they looked amazing. On the pricier side, classy atmosphere but pretty good food and friendly service. There are vegetarian options and they change their menu quite frequently. I got the Veggie Burger which was huge and came with a side of fruit. The burger was really flavorful and filling but it bothered my stomach a little bit later that evening. I went on a Thursday night and the place was hopping but definitely an older crowd. Pretty good restaurant but nothing really impressed me that much. read more

This place is solid. I'd definitely go again if I was in the area and hungry. Sorry my pictures aren't very clear. The place is kinda dark-BUT I really like the vibe here! The brussel sprouts were really good...even my sister who isn't a huge fan of sprouts liked them. They give you a side of lime to squeeze which is the perfect complement. The smashed avocado was ok-it kinda lacked flavor...but with the chips, it went down fine. I ordered the ML burger and it was good...I really liked it although it was too undercooked (so was my daughters?)! But nonetheless-it was a good burger. Food 3.5 stars , ambiance 3.5 stars. Service 1.5 star. Against my better judgement, I gave cafe ml a 2nd chance. The last time we were here last year , food took so long that we ended up getting it bagged up to go. Thought that it must have been one time issue. Tried again and decided to put full order in as soon as sat down to prevent repeat. Thank goodness Kids food came out on time. However 1 hr and 5 minutes after we placed order did we get our food. Had to again get it to go and sent family home ahead of me. Won't be making mistake again. read more
