Visiting Weiss Distilling's Halloweiss takeover in downtown Clawson was one of the most fun nights out I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was perfectly executed for the spooky season. The decor was next-level: skeletons, mugs shaped like skulls and spooky trees, spell-cloud ceiling details, flickering lights, and more! Our table was set with free snacking kettle and waters. The cocktails were creative and delicious! We got the Cabin in the Woods and Super Devil Juice. Both drinks came in a festive spooky tree mug! We ended the night with a yummy Weisscream Sandwich. The ice cream was from Ray's Ice Cream! I loved that a lot of the bites collaborated with local restaurants in the area! If you're looking for a bit of Halloween flair, Weiss Distilling Co. hits the mark. It's perfect for date night, a small group of friends, or even a fun stop before dinner in the area. This distillery is absolutely the coolest concept bar in my area. They switch up the theme every quarter/season or so. By this I mean an entire menu, glassware, and interior design makeover. It's impressive to say the least. I have only been to three concept so far: Haunted Weiss, Wild Weiss, and the current theme Miami Weiss. Parking is all street and is mostly, if not entirely, free in Clawson. I would recommend reservations, but I'm a fly by the seat of my pants gal. Walking in near opening at 5 has always yielded good results. I have only come here for drinks, but I feel like they do have some light food on the menu. Or used to. They do have a popcorn machine and will serve you bowl after bowl. You'll need it with their yummy cocktails. This team is a well oiled machine. Everyone behind the bar works together to give you the best experience. Tina, our bartender, was super nice and dressed to kill in her sweet sunnies and animal print jumper. I stuck with rum based drinks and was pleased with the Broken Yari and Cafe Con Ron. Unique, well balanced, and flavorful. Weiss makes all the booze they will serve you, so these drinks can't be had anywhere else. They have mocktails too. You will not be disappointed! It's not gimmicky or cheesy. We were able to check out the last few days of the summer theme, Miami Weiss. So freaking cool. Everything we had was delicious! So many cocktails to pick from. Amazing prices too!! The drinks here are absolutely amazing and so fun to look at and taste. They do a different theme every season and even allow you to purchase the cute cups that the drinks come in! The environment is very dimly lit but they do an extraordinary job with their decor. It is very difficult to get a reservation and people book months in advance. Staff is friendly and helpful. Drinks all custom crafted in restaurant. Difficult to get a table reservation and they aren't bad about getting you in at the bar. If you're in the are, definitely drop in and put your name in so after dinner you can have a cocktail after. When there in November- had a "waiting" area upstairs with popcorn, premade cocktails, and you can watch a movie. We came for the 'Weiss on Ice' winter theme and it was magical! The decor is always 10/10, but the drinks are the real star. I'm usually picky about gin, but their award-winning craft gin (Straitjacket) is so botanical and fresh. I have passed by this place hundreds of times, and never really thought to go hear until I was out in Clawson for dinner. We tried to walk in and this is not the way to go. The hostess was very nice but told use we were told that the wait would be a hour. We decided to try our luck and put our names on the list while getting a drink at another place. It only ended up being a half hour. Before letting us in, the had us wait in their merch area and they had wide assortment of fun drinking vessels and bottles of their booze. Once taken inside, I was struck by the efforts that went into the decoration, which apparently changes by season. The atmosphere was hip yet fun. I tried one drink with chorizo infused bourbon and it tasted like drinking a sausage and another one that came with a sprig of rosemary and served in a gingerbread man. Maybe not a place I would go to all the time, but seems like a good place for a date or night cap. Will go again next season to see the decor. read more

We stopped by on whim last Thursday night. You can make reservations ahead of time but we didn't since we saw they had a ton of reservation times left for 7/8. You're greeted at the door by a host and she took us to the bar through the back of the elevator. My friend who lives in Clawson told me they will change up the drinks and theme for a new pop every so often. The theme we got was Miami Vice aka Miami Weiss. The drinkware was adorable and the drinks were pretty good. They have free popcorn that they just kept refilling for us. The music was a good mix of old pop hits and new pop hits. Weiss has quickly become one of my favorite cocktail bars in all of metro Detroit. I won't focus too much on any one specific drink as they change their menu (and entire decor!) seasonally, but everything I've had has ranged from decent to absolutely delicious. More on ambiance: feels like a great spot for a date but also a cool place to hang out with a group of friends. It's small yet intimate, and the seasonal themes are fun -- current theme is "Miami Weiss" and it definitely gave some tropical vibes. Service is always friendly and on the quicker side for a craft cocktail bar. This was my first time coming here and it wasn't bad, but didn't stand out either. They do make some really impressive drinks that are well thought out and delicious. The bartenders clearly know what they're doing. That said, the ambiance wasn't quite my style. The space felt a bit too small and dimly lit. The layout made it feel somewhat cramped. We shared a flight to taste the small-batch bourbon and the award-winning craft gin, and both were stellar. You can tell they don't use any additives in their spirits. Finally made it into Weiss and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Their small-batch bourbon (Blind Cut) is exceptionally smooth, perfect for sipping neat or in an Old Fashioned. The bartenders really know their stuff and explained the whole grain-to-glass process they use. It's rare to find a place that balances a 'cool' theme with such serious, high-end distilling. This has been one of our favorite date night spots. The people are great! You'll never get better service...friendly great recommendations based on your tastes. You can order off the menu, or you can ask for a "Dealers Choice"...tell the server your taste oreferences and which base alcohol to use (gin, vodka, whiskey, etc.). We went for the Halloween themed experience and drinks. You enter by passing through a faux elevator and into the large bar and side benches/tables. They serve their popcorn, there are some things like charcutier and caviar to purchase. On our visit everything was 100% Halloween, from the room being maxed out, to the staff wearing some Halloween things, to the drinks themselves and drink cups. Only bummer is that you only have 90 mins per reservation. Luckily, there were able to accommodate us for an additional 2 hours. Forced Payment and Possible Discrimination I had a terrible experience here. Due to my expired ID ( even I showed the validated ID with photo), I couldn't order alcohol, which I accepted. However, after switching drinks with my friend (ID is validated but she is driver and sentensive to almond inside of drink she ordered), the manager accused us of breaking rules, ask us to leave and forced us to pay an unexpected 22% gratuity. No sign no label and no communication before we asked. The whole process is kind of full of white arrogance. The waiter only checked our IDs and ignored others. I felt unfairly targeted, possibly because our driver's licenses were from out of state or due to discrimination of ethnicity. This treatment was unprofessional and unacceptable. Leave my lasting night at Detroit with depression. With all of this unfriendly, unprofessional, disrespectful experience, I do not recommend this place. read more

If darkness is your ally, this is your spot! There are tiny little lamps at each table but the whole place makes you rethink your vision. The drinks were very good! It's broken up in five sections; Vodka, gin, rum, Weiss lightning and absinthe. Each person in our group got something different. I got the ambition, which was a rum cocktail. It was really good. I love speakeasies, and I was thrilled to check out Weiss with my friend when I came visiting from out-of-town. The red lights and curtains gave a lovely ambience to the bar. While this isn't on the menu, since absinthe is my go-to drink, I really appreciated the absinthe samples that our bartender gave us. I had never seen purple absinthe before. From the Gin selections, I got a Passiflora cocktail. It had Gin, Leon, Passionfruit, Pineapple, Lime Leaf, and Green Tea. The Science Fiction whiskey drink was particularly memorable. It had whiskey, vodka, root beer, and coconut milk, and it was really great! We also got chips and almonds to go with our drinks.
