Came to 54 West on Thursday night for Quizzo trivia and while trivia was a blast as always, the restaurant itself was lacking. We sat at the bar and had to wait a while before even getting menus. This kind of service continued for the rest of the night and we honestly felt ignored and forgotten. Once we got our food (we ordered the Tacos Mexicanos) we had to wait again for silverware. The bartender never came by to check on us after receiving our food so we ended up having to flag down a different server. And then instead of being able to ask the bartender for a margarita, I had to flag down a different server AGAIN to put my drink order in. This place seemed super hectic and disorganized. Food runners did not seem to know where they were going and had to yell across the place to ask the servers who ordered the food they were carrying. Not sure if they don't number their tables but it was super distracting and made them look unprofessional. The food itself was mediocre. This is the outdoor space behind Mojave Cantina so they share a menu/kitchen. I thought the meats were quite dry and needed some acid or some kind of brightness to wake them up. I thought the space itself was really cute though. And I love a themed out bathroom and the sliding doors with the hook locks were super fun. Overall, probably would not come back to 54 West. read more

A friend of ours was hosting trivia here on Thursday so decided to check it out.. seems like a cool place, not too huge for seatings and barely 6-7 teams competing for trivia too.. not too noisy which I absolutely enjoyed coz places like these end up giving a headache if music is too loud or crown gets noisy.. Food and cocktails are definitely one of the bests in area of clawson, they're also co owned by the Mexican restaurant right next door.. we also had a very friendly server, great staff and food.. we definitely will put this on our list for any future plans for Mexican read more

This bar is actually on a patio behind Mojave Cantina. They have fire tables that are very useful when the weather gets colder because some of the bar isn't enclosed. Great place for a warm summer night. You can also order off the Mojave Menu in the bar and they will serve it. No interesting decor or ambiance to speak of. Service is okay. Came here for a retirement celebration. 54 W. was perfect for our group. There was 10 of us and we were able to make reservations. Casual and intimate environment. There were some tables and high tops but there also was lounging type areas. That is where our group hung out for the evening and it was perfect. We all could talk with one another but still able to enjoy our drinks and food. Our waiter was amazing. I wish I caught his name. But we were a rowdy bunch and he handled us professionally and was friendly. My only complaint was not filling waters enough. But other than that drinks and food came out pretty fast. 54 W. has a collaboration with Mojave Cantina for food, so you can't go wrong because Mojave is delicious! Drinks and food were all tasty! The place has their own bathrooms - two unisex single stall restrooms. Not sure if it was the big group and I missed it? But didn't know if they had a drink menu? Came here for a large bday party. The bar knew it was a large party but only had a few servers for about 50 people. It was a cluster. Getting a drink required a lot of patience and skill. Getting food was a joke. After orders were eventually placed the waiting began. The waitress came out a few times to double check orders and figure out who was on what bill. Food was coming out but I don't think anyone got their correct order. The waitress would yell out a food item and a name, the person would say that's me - but that's not my order. Same thing happened to us. Brought out 'our' food, but it was wrong. We finally just accepted it. About 1/2 hour later we saw someone eating what we were sure was our order, but oh well. Finally, the bill! We got 2 bills. First one had our food (with an extra not ordered item) and 3 drinks, 2 for my bf, 1 for me. It was mostly right so we paid it. Then we got another drink bill for $60! Believe me, we did not have another 6 drinks, but we could not find a waitress to talk too. It was a mess in there. We gave up and just paid it, but now I regret that and wish we would have tried harder to resolve it. So a pretty expensive night for tacos & drinks, with tip it was $130 for two. Ouch. read more

Cute quiet spot in Clawson to grab a drink. My friend recently moved to the area and wanted to show me some of the bars and restaurants in Clawson. They're located behind Mojave Cantina and have a cute outdoor patio area open in the summer with cushioned seats and fire pits, which was closed for winter but it looked like they had an igloo setup outside in the patio area. We sat inside which was dim lit and decorated with chandeliers, and had a comfy cushioned booth that goes around the perimeter of the restaurant. Their cocktail list has several different flavored margaritas, sangria, and Moscow mules, as well as mojitos, and other specialty cocktails like a lemon drop, Manhattan, and gimlet. We both had the margarita flights which were $9 for 3 different flavored margaritas. I had the blood orange, raspberry, and blackberry margaritas in my flights with sugared rims and the blood orange was my favorite of the three. They also have sangria flights but were out. They also had some craft beers on tap from Bells, Founders, and Magic Hat. 54 West's food menu was mostly appetizers and shareables with items like southwest egg rolls, pretzels and queso, Bosco sticks, chicken tenders, and potato poppers. They also had salads. Most menu items were$7-$10 and most cocktails were around $9. It was pretty quiet there for a Saturday night but my friend says it gets pretty busy there in the summer whe the patio is open. Service was good and our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive and checked on us several times throughout our visit. Not saying I wouldn't come back here because the idea is cool. I like it for the summer with friends because it has couches and fire pits and it's a very relaxed environment. However, this visit my friends and I were extremely disappointed. We arrived and realized only half of it was open which I get because it's still a little chilly out. We picked our table and asked about the Happy Hour (because there is a great looking one on their website). The bartender/waitress didn't know anything about it then told us that was a very old advertisement because they don't even have the same food advertised in it anymore. They don't even have a Happy Hour. The food menu did not provide good options for chill eats and it's very much like Mojave Cantina (not a fan). I understand they probably share a kitchen, but switch it up and make it unique/interesting. It had options like tacos, ranchero chili, with that just go to the Mexican restaurant. They do have French fries which were random, but really good. I wish they had different options like the pizza bites, cheese sticks, or sliders we went for. We ended up having to grab our own silverware and napkins from the stand because we were given none. We would have asked, but it took 20 minutes to even get our water refilled. We were there for 3-4 hours and were able to get 2 drinks. It wasn't busy either even for Friday and we kind of had 2 waitresses? We weren't sure. Not impressed with the service. read more

It was a Wednesday, and we wanted to do something fun for the evening. We remembered that 54 West was hosting Trivia. We hopped in the car and headed to Clawson. This was not our first time at 54 West. We happened upon this place, last year, after a Yelp Elite event we attended. It's a small bar located behind a Mexican restaurant, and if you don't know it's there, you'll never find it. It's a small bar, but let me tell ya, they pack'em all in! lol It was a full house for Trivia. We found a nice table and ordered some food; we were starving. There were only two servers, who were also the bartenders. I was amazed at how quickly they managed the drinks, food, and patrons. The menu offered a wide variety of the usual bar food, but we were pleased to find healthier options on the menu. We are both carb counting and couldn't indulge in all the deep fried specialties! :) I ordered a grilled chicken salad and he opted for the chicken tenders. I came to 54 West on a Saturday night to kill time while waiting to go see a movie. The first thing I noticed was a really cool outdoor seating area that I can't wait to use when the weather heats up. They serve traditional cocktails in addition to their own signature drinks. In all honesty, the drinks weren't groundbreaking but they were decent enough and fairly priced enough that I'd definitely return. We had a blast chopping it up with the very friendly bartenders who appeared to have a strong rapport with their regulars. *Just a tip - you can't see the bar from the street so we drove by several times trying to locate it. I popped in here for trivia night, was impressed with the comfortable but chic decor, and the drinks were impressively strong and worth the typical cocktail prices (a glass of sangria was affordable and strong enough for a buzz). New to the area and this bar looked like a great spot to get a drink. Lots of outdoor seating with a relaxed atmosphere. We visited on 2 occasions a week apart, but unfortunately we didn't have a good experience either time. On our first visit, our drinks were accidentally made with salt instead of sugar (ouch...). The margarita batch being made for the next day was in a large tub behind the bar and was clearly visible and open to air, which seemed a little gross as this bar is largely outside. We were there for a couple of hours and it remained this way the whole time. We even asked the staff about it and the response given was "don't worry, the alcohol will kill everything." Cringe. The second time we visited was much worse. It was a little bit busier (but still not packed or anything), and the staff appeared very disorganized. Most of them appeared to be socializing or just walking around randomly without an obvious task. Only one or two of the people working there seemed to actually know what was going on. Someone who must work there (?), but was off the clock was VERY intoxicated and going back and forth behind the bar making herself drinks. The other employees clearly noticed, but none of them seemed comfortable asking her to leave, which makes me wonder if she is one of the managers or owners. She almost fell over a few times and then proceeded to make herself another drink. It was an uncomfortable situation to watch. We really wanted to like this bar which is why we tried it a second time despite a lackluster first experience. Unfortunately, after our second visit, we definitely will not be back. When the blind lead the blind, you just end up walking in circles. There were 4 other people there, including my wife and myself, that makes 6 people total in a bar that seats 100. The service was absolutely terrible. We were there for about 3 hours and had two drinks a piece. Waited patiently while everyone that works in the restaurant sat down at the bar to eat a pizza they had made themselves before we were even able to place an order for our food. That is a NO NO friends. If I owned the joint, I'd fire everyone that works here (besides the kid who is clearly too young to be working at a bar, because he made the pizza, dummies!) HIRE PEOPLE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCE. What is clear is that the same Chaldean Greeks that own a Mexican restaurant ( I know, right?) are trying to cash in on the hottest thing in town, craft cocktails. The drinks weren't bad, priced a bit high for some of the lower end pours included. The pepperoni pizza we had was ok, it burned the roof of my mouth which was unpleasant. Me BF and I love Mojave Cantina,next door. Just found out yesterday they are same owners at 54 west. My friend and I went to 54 West after Mojave Cantina for dinner Friday night. We sat at the outside bar a good 20+ mins and mind you it was not busy at all and people who came after were served first. ( maybe bcuz it was just us two girls?) whatever reason it was ridiculous. We finally got someone's attention and ordered a drink. Then we left. Noticed when I got home I didn't get my debit card back. Went back the next day around 645pm and was told immediately that they are not open. I said that's fine just need my debit card- I didn't get it back last night. Waiter left into Mojave and about 10 mins later came back and told me literally " the mangers are too busy to look for your debit card, it's a rush right now... leave your name & number & they will call you back when it's not as busy". I couldn't believe that's what was just told to me. It's a Sat night. It will never be "slow". But no one could jus simply go find my debit card? For their re occurring customer? Who mind you planned to have a drink when I got my card back. So I gave my info and left. It is the next day & still no call back at all. It's very saddening this happened and was treated this way. I was easy going about it due to not completely needing my debit card at the time. Just wanted to warn others watch out for your cards. Pay cash here. Canceled my card and never going back to either establishment. And making sure to tell all others to do the same that I have told to come here. and frankly very upset about the situation. read more

I'm thankful that this bar and restaurant is open during COVID-19 however the service was horrible it took a half hour for the queso to come out and it took an hour for my colleague to get a glass of pineapple juice. They have only 4 tables to serve. read more

The patio is nice and comfortable, I really want to like this place for that reason but I just can't. It took awhile for our group to get acknowledged, we were 1 of 3 tables occupied on a Wednesday. It took twice as long to get the drinks...nothing fancy beer and water. Two people in our group ordered food and it took forever. When one of them final asked about it the server took offense . The manager brought out the food a few minutes later and apologized for the delay... apparently they share a kitchen with the Cantina and they where backed up. If someone would have just communicated that to us at any point during our long wait it would have been fine. Food was just okay, one dish was missing the sauce that was supposed to come with it. From the deadcover my familiar crowd ooo n a Thursday night that was comprised mostly of people who work there to the requisite retired lit prof fraternizing with young couples. The inside look great - all brass bar, industrial/factory ceilings, and garage door walls. The outside is an expansive patio with cushioned seats and a cooking station. The mixed drinks date limited to 13 craft cocktails. The sweet tooth selection is limited to the Patsy and Edina and the Gun and Jam (which I had). The drink was good and tasted like a minty PB&J. So confused on what this place is trying to be? It appears to be a beautiful and fun establishment. It's definitely not a Cocktail Bar as the menu only has close to 6 cocktails. It's not a wine bar as they only serve 2 kinds of wine, one being a Cheaper Value wine. The Bartender did not know what an Aperol Spritz was. The menu only has a select few apps. The owners killed it with Mohave Cantina but didn't do so well with 54 West. Would love to see this turn into a Cocktail bar since that is what the ambience is! read more

This bar was chilly! The drink menus are switching over so they are serving drinks from Mohave's menu, but the drinks from the website are still available for the most part. I ordered a Corpse Reviver and she couldn't find one of the ingredients so I got a Mojito. I might check it out again when the weather is nicer because the patio area looks cool. Decent drinks and awesome outdoor patio made for a nice evening with friends. However, "excellent" ratings are reserved for excellent food and attention to detail. Did I miss the food selection? It's quite possible, however- I was surprised to find out that along with fancy drinks and atmosphere they offer only standard pizza and pretzel bites (possibly a couple other bar food appetizers). This is probably why they were pretty empty on a Friday night. I want to give three stars, as nothing was really wrong with the place, but I don't understand why their menu is so lacking and almost non existent with their space, which probably cost a pretty penny to create. I truly hope they aren't closing down soon, and if they add to the food business I'll be back for another try. I also have to mention that if you have firepit tables they should be running on a Friday, or the staff should be able to accommodate requests. I think they need to do something about the lighting, it was a bit bright and harsh (in your face/last call for alcohol-like). Cute place right behind Mojave in Clawson. They have a great patio that will be awesome when the weather warms up. We went and had drinks and shared some food items. Things I love: Patio Bar is very comfy and relaxed. Location is great. Service was friendly. Drinks were good. Things I did NOT love: Takes a LONG time to get a drink, same drink I have ordered at other bars I get in half of the time or less. I do not buy that it takes longer to make a martini here than anywhere else. Even our second round of bottled beer took a while. Please note, they were not busy. Place was maybe 1/3 full or less, this was 9pm on a Friday. Server was not even prompt in bringing us napkins when we needed, had to ask twice. I'd go back, but hope for better service all around.
