Old Pony has been on my list of places to try for YEARS. I've walked past it countless times while on my way to Trader Joe's. Heck, I've smelled their food in the parking garage. I knew I HAD to try it. My boyfriend and I are not drinkers but we love some good bar food and I heard Old Pony does it right. Oh they definitely do it right! We left with two burgers and onion rings to share. The total was under $20. They also offer burgers on special on Sunday for $3, I believe. Old Pony offers smash burgers (burger patty, cheese, lettuce, onion and their special pony sauce.) Burgers don't have to be extravagant to be good. One bite into the burgers and we both agreed we would be back soon. The onion rings were still crispy on our drive home and they also hit the spot. For $20 for a meal for two -- you can't go wrong! Old Pony also offers daily drink specials and other fun food specials. Service was friendly for our carry out. Can't ask for much more! read more

First time visiting. Stopped on a whim. Maybe it was the location but I always thought it would be much larger and fancier than it is. AND THAT ISNT A BAD THING AT ALL! Sat myself and the lone bartender had a drink in my hand within five minutes. Simple american food. A place you can still get a real decent hamburger for six bucks. The drink menu is nice too. Many signature cocktails to choose from and it was a wednesday, so my "High Rye" was only six dollars. The decor was a bit dull, mostly black and edison bulbs. Great spot! Came for a couple of drinks with my girlfriend and it didn't disappoint. Justin took the best care of us. He makes a mean Pineapple Express! The ambiance was cute. I went on a week Dj's so it was not crowded at all. Only about 3 more parties besides the one I was with. I hadn't eaten all day so I ordered a grilled cheese. The wait time was quick. It came with fries and it was pretty good. The grilled cheese was on the thicker side which was great. Honestly my friend and I could have easily split the meal between the two of us and both been full. I got the strawberry cheesecake I believe martini. It was fantastic. It was a right balance of sweet and had enough alcohol in it to give me a nice buzz. I tried a few other martinis and one of their cocktail drinks but the first I had took the cake it was amazing. Simply put, Old Pony is underrated. The food menu isn't as elaborate as the drink menu, but pricing is more than fair. My favorite martini of the 15+ options is the key lime pie martini. The double cheeseburger is one of the best the Pointes have to offer, and the chicken sandwiches are good options, as well. As for the French fries, there are 3 different kinds: garlic dill, golden, and hott. The garlic dill fries are definitely the way to go. Came here cause it's about 5 minutes from my house to have some drinks and food. The food was excellent and the drinks were spot on, however on my first visit here, it's hard to get the server's attention, she seemed to pay more attention to her game then the patrons. We had to actually walk up to the bar to get her attention because we waiting so long. Besides that, it's a decent place to go that also won't charge you an arm and leg. read more

I love Old Pony. We have been coming here since it opened. The good is great and we have always had great service. We were there at dinner time and there was a table of rude, loud, swearing adults that were disrupting the whole place. There were kid and teens dining with their families and these people were making it very uncomfortable for all of us. The staff asked them to be quieter and clean up their language. That only resulted in them yelling louder, calling the bartender and server nasty names. The staff were professional and finally asked them to leave. Bravo!!! We've been here quite a few times in the past, and if you sit at the bar, the service (in the past) has been great. If you sit at the one of the tables, expect the slowest paced, most unenthusiastic service you could possibly imagine. They actually make you feel like by being there you are an inconveniencing them. Slow service. Unfriendly. Not a place to go if you plan to have fun. Also, our tab already included the gratuity ...they had automatically added a gratuity to it and didn't tell us. So make sure you check your tab to see whether or not the gratuity was added before you tip them additional. I don't like that at all, it seems dishonest and deceptive.... If the establishment is adding a gratuity to a tab, they should tell you that when they present the tab to you. read more

Fun place to hang out on the patio, it's located pretty conveniently near Trader Joe's and walkable from a lot of other places. I like their drinks but admittedly they have a very divey 80s vibe - you can still buy a purple rain here last I checked, and most cocktails come in a pint glass. I like that, specifically, it's my type of casual bar, but it's worth mentioning. The thing that consistently bothers me though is that the kitchen is ALWAYS closed randomly, they don't tell you until you've already ordered your drink (presumably so you don't leave) and if the kitchen is open, it serves maybe 10% of the menu. Why? It's so weird. Why not just stick to drinks and be up front if you aren't in a place to serve food? I get that maybe things might not have worked out with the kitchen side currently, but I'd rather just them be honest so I can decide whether or not I want to get food first and then come back for drinks later. Let me start off by saying this place is great and one of the cozier spots in Grosse Pointe that has potential. I prefer going in there past the normal dinner hours of 6-8 because it's just crowded. Came here with a date for dinner and we decided to just grab our drink and leave because it was so loud with families with tables of 10 people set up so it kind of loses that sexy martini lounge vibe. Maybe at a certain point make it 21+ only? Still love this spot but I prefer to come later when the crowd is a little more my speed and you can actually have conversation and maybe chat it up with the bartender or someone sitting next to you. Menu is simple for bar food which is fine with me. I love the trade off of a simple BLT or grilled cheese with an espresso martini. Prices are good too. Maybe $12 for a specialty cocktail and $8 for a mixed drink. read more

I just love this martini bar. My friend introduced me to this spot a few months ago. He used to come here back in the day and told me about their great happy hour! Went here on week day in the evening. It was not busy until the later hours. There is street parking and a parking garage nearby that is reasonable priced. The Pub has a cozy interior and does offer outdoor seating. It was also super dark inside. We thought the service was okay but slow. Old Pony has a limited menu and they do run specials everyday. On Mondays, the Old Pony has 50 cent wings and $2.75 Mexican beers. I ordered the Strawberry Cheesecake Martini and the Chocolate Factory. I thought both were delicious. I also had the chicken sandwich which was okay. Overall, the food was alright nothing spectacular and the drink selection is plentiful as it isn't just martinis. read more
