    The Italian Paloma!
    Jodie R.

I had it in my head that I did not like Bronze Door. My husband talked me into giving it one more try and I am so glad I did. We sat at the bar, and the bartender, Elise, promptly introduced herself and then proceeded to take outstanding care of us. We'd missed happy hour, but she talked to the kitchen and they let us still order the octopus tacos that weren't on the regular menu. SO yummy and tender. The grilled artichokes with fried olives and hummus were great. At that point I was almost full, so my husband and I split a fillet. They split it for us in the back. Hearing us argue about the potato choice, she even brought some of each. The drinks were spectacular, and I've been replicating the Italian Paloma at home! When my husband couldn't decide on a wine, she even went the extra mile to give him a couple of tastes that fit with what he described as his wine tastes. A perfect evening from start to finish with truly exceptional customer service. Can't wait to go back!

I really love the classic aesthetic of Bronze Door! They have a nice cocktail menu with unique ingredients. I ordered the grey goose shrimp and penne which was a nice portion and very flavorful. My friend ordered the stroganoff and honestly we both felt hers seemed more like an appetizer portion and definitely looked like it should have had some more carrots and spaetzle. Our server was very friendly and gave suggestions for the menu. My only issue was when we had cashed out and were getting ready to leave, she came over and said she didn't charge my card the full amount and didn't give much explanation, just said I owed $16 more dollars. I thought this was strange and a little off-putting that my card didn't get charged properly the first time... The highlight of the whole experience was the lemon cream cream cake for dessert- PHENOMENAL! I would definitely come back for drinks and dessert!

This was our first time visiting the Bronze Door. We had looked up the reviews prior to visiting the restaurant and liked what we saw. The building was quaint and gave off a fine dining atmosphere. We were quickly seated and greeted by our waitress Candace. Our waitress Candace was efficient and polite which helped and made our meal more enjoyable. After reviewing the menu, we discovered that the menu the restaurant currently had was not the current menu listed online. Not a huge deal but definitely changed the dynamic of our meal. I ordered the jalapeño drink which was pretty good, while my husband stuck with a coke. We ordered the Artesian garlic bread, the southern fried chicken sandwich, and the patty melt. The food was all very good and worth going back for. For desert we ordered the crème brûlée and the lemon mascarpone cake which were both delicious. Overall we would return, but would check for an updated menu to make sure the items we wanted were available for that time.

We came to this location around 5pm on a Friday night. I was surprised by how empty it was. The restaurant was bright and inviting. The bar was pretty busy for happy hour but almost all tables were empty. Our server Austin was very nice and personable. The food was fast a delicious. The short rib on both of our short rib dishes were very tender. The mushroom soup reminded me of a vegetable soup, very rich but delish. My husband said the pork chop was one of the best he's had. Definitely a place to go for dinner!

Fun name. It's where the Hill used to be. Nice and warm interior decor. Our waiter took a while to come us, no water after being seated and no order for a little while either. A male waiter checked on us, he asked if anyone had come to us. I said not at all. He was going to let his colleague know to come to us soon. He at least brought us some water. Our waitress came a minute later. I think were seated for a good 7-10 minutes before anyone came to us. Ordered the Terry's famous fried chicken, mushroom soup en croute, crab Louis salad. $73.14. Decided to keep the crab Louis as is. Extra lump crab is $15 more. Will order more if I am still hungry afterwards then. The mushroom soup came out after a long while. The mushroom soup is good, the phyllo bread topper is crunchy and has a nice top crust on it. The soup is watery, reminds me of an onion soup base, it has a mix of mirepoix and nice blend of wild mushroom. It's tasty. The food takes quite a while to come out here. Each serving it feels like takes 15 minutes to come out. Definitely not a place to go to if you are hoping to get in and out in a little over and hour. It's been 50 minutes and we have only finished our soup or appetizer so far. Our main course was out just shy of an hour after our arrival. The crab Louis salad is pretty good, the avocado could have come sliced at least, a bit awkward cutting that up and scooping it out onto my salad. The Terry's famous fried chicken is light, yet crispy. The bean and slaw are good as well. It's 4 pieces or half a fried chicken. Not a bad dish. We asked for our bill just before finishing our meal and now the bill took a while to come out to us. Everything takes an inordinate amount of time here. Again waiting for the return of my credit card and check to be picked up took way too long. The food is good, the time for the food out to come out to you and the service in general needs some work, yet.

I have been wanting to try The Bronze door for a while and they happened to have extended hours for Christmas so I was able to finally experience it. I was in the area for work and was excited to be able to stop in for a drink. I absolutely fell in love with the cozy upscale environment. It was quite busy for 3 pm on a weekday! But everyone was getting out early to enjoy their Christmas holidays. I ordered a couple of drinks and enjoyed them both! I most certainly will be back again!

This was one of the few places that had last minute NYE dinner reservations available, so I decided to give it a try. I felt confident knowing that this is one of Joe Vicari's places, because I've never had a bad experience or food at any of his restaurants. I also have fond memories of this place, as I came here often between 1988-92 - but I can't remember what it was called then, and it's driving me crazy - so if anyone out there can answer this, I'd be grateful! We were seated in the bar area, which was perfect because we were able to watch the Wolverines lose to TCU on one of their TVs. Everything was excellent - the delicious food, attentive service, and chic ambiance were all what I've come to expect from one of Vicari's restaurants. The stroganoff was amazing - I have to say that the spaetzle was better than I've had at actual German restaurants. No lie. I only have two complaints: that bread isn't complimentary - I mean, $6 is no big deal, but I've never had to pay for bread at a high-end restaurant before. I don't understand that. It's good bread, though. My other complaint is that their cocktails were too strong. Some people are ok with this, because you know the bar isn't shorting your drink, but if my drink is supposed to have strawberry or lavender, I want to taste those flavors - but they were drowned out by the alcohol. However, the bartender was more than happy to fix it to my liking. Other than those two minor issues, I was very pleased with everything at the Bronze Door. I'll be back :)

I had a nice experience at the Bronze Door. I came here this evening for a late Valentine's Day dinner. We started off our meal with the short rib pierogi and Rhode Island style calamari. Both appetizers were very flavorful and a delicious start to our evening. The black orchid martini was so refreshing and went right down easy peasy. I could've drank way more than one them haha... I had the beef stroganoff which was so decadent and rich with the umami flavors and the spatzle was perfection! My partner had the filet which was cooked to a beautiful MR with a vegetable melody and creamy mashed potatoes. Overall the food and drinks were a 10/10! The inside is very elegant, but simple and classy. Our waitress was very attentive and did her job well, thank you Carli. Overall I recommend the Bronze Door and I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu.

It's been a while since my last review (due to Covid and cutting ppl slack) but I'm sick of accepting incompetency and lack of accountability! The service provided by The Bronze Door has been perfect and deserves to be noticed. I want to further note that Nick (server) was on point and made our experience that much better. His attention to detail, conversation, scraping the table, and warm towel hand service (new to bronze door) was above expectations. He was also my server the last time I was there, so he only reinforced my first experience at the Bronze Door (formally The Hill). As for the food, I can't say too much because the filet mignon was perfectly cooked, came with true Detroit zip sauce, asparagus, and potato's that were served in a square shape, which to me, always puts a smile on my face for some reason. The meal was 10 out of 10. We topped it off with table side creme brûlée and for the lovers of the dish, it was spot on and seared to perfection! The table side was a nice touch. The experience and food is only getting better at the bronze door and I'd highly recommend it. In addition, the bartender at the time did a very good job and was quite pleasant, which added to the experience.

    Is it kid friendly?

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? We were celebrating a birthday, so we decided to pull out all the stops -- and I'm really glad we did. I'll say right up front that the prices are a little higher than what I would normally spend on a meal, but honestly, it was absolutely worth it. They started us off with garlic bread that was incredibly delicious, and from there the experience only got better. Our server, Andrew, was fantastic. He mentioned that they might have been a little short-handed and apologized that he felt he couldn't be as attentive as he normally would be, but honestly, we never would have known. He did an excellent job keeping our water glasses full and making sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. At our table, we ordered the Chicken al Pastaio, Spaghetti Carbonara, Gnocchi Romana, and I had the Chicken Parmigiano. Every dish was excellent. I sampled a few bites from the other plates and genuinely enjoyed all of them. The real highlight for me, though, was the Beggar's Purse appetizer. It was pasta filled with goat cheese and pear, and it was absolutely divine. I can completely understand why they also offer it as a main course because I could have happily eaten an entire plate of it. For dessert, we shared cheesecake and tiramisu. The cheesecake was more traditional than what you'd typically get at places like The Cheesecake Factory, which caught me a little off guard at first, but it was still excellent. The tiramisu was also delicious, and we all got a good laugh when one of our guests accidentally inhaled a little cocoa powder off the top and started coughing and sneezing at the table. It honestly just added to the fun of the evening. At the end of the night, nothing we ordered disappointed, the service was wonderful, and it turned out to be a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We'll definitely be back.
