We were visiting the area and really wanted to eat some lake perch before leaving. After reading a lot of the mixed reviews of places in St. Clair Shores, we opted to stop at Mike's for lunch figuring that at least we would have a great view. We were not disappointed at all! Here's what we noticed: - It was a beautiful sunny Fall day so we opted to sit outside. They were using an abbreviated Fall lunch menu. - My wife and I split both the Mike's perch meal and the Maurice salad. The perch was breaded with Panko crumbs, a little heavier than I've seen at places in the past, but it was still really tasty. The fries were seasoned well and the coleslaw was good but a little sweet. The Maurice salad was very good too. - Service was very good, although the server told me they didn't charge extra if you use a credit card and that was clearly inaccurate because it was stated on the bill that we received that the cash price was (~3%) less. - The atmosphere was great, the view wonderful, and the overall decor is totally crammed full of pictures and nautical paraphernalia...very quaint. - Prices are a little higher than some other places, but not surprising given the water front location. Have eaten here three times now, and it has not disappointed. Expect to wait for a table outside if you are there on a weekend, it's very popular. With that said, it's a worthwhile spot and the tiki bar is a great vibe. The food is excellent. Whether you want a burger, lobster roll, club sandwich, salad, or soup - it has all punched well above expectations. It's not very expensive, and the drinks are generous pours from their full bar. Overall, I can't say enough about Mike's. It has a great vibe, cool location, the food is awesome and the waitstaff is really friendly. Mike's on the water was a great place to try after garage sale hunting. We sat outside, right by the Mariana. It was a very beachy, up-northy atmosphere! The hostess would not sit as at a low top table, despite many being open. We ordered quickly, and the food took about 20-30 minutes to come! The food was good, but just about average!! Prices are way too high here, like Walt Disney World expensive. OK, I can see paying $15 for a first-date garish tropical drink but they lost me on the $29 lobster roll. Really? $29 for bits of cold lobster smothered in mayo on a roll? Even my spendthrift aunt screeched when the waitress notified us of the market price. Ambience was an old dock. The dining areas are cramped fragmented with juxtaposed angles everywhere. Two stars for the creativity. Nautical maps from the 1920's indicate the area was a former trash dump. An underwater trash dump. It's not really on the water either, it's NEAR the water. It's usually jam-packed, so it's got fans. The wait staff is incredibly friendly! However, my only gripe is that I wanted to try the impossible burger as a vegan and it is no longer on the menu . I'm just a simple vegan who wants a burger. Anyway vegans you have the option of the green goddess salad with no feta. I opted for the preztel as I'm not a healthy vegan. Overall the location is gorgeous off the water with ample parking and super friendly staff. But can a vegan get some options a burger some plant based protein. I wanted to love this place but it missed the mark. The 2 stars were for the cool water side deck and vibe outside. The waitress was great but service was super slow. Took ~ 30 min for our food order to come out (only 3 sandwiches and a bowl of chowder, no apps). Even our waitress mentioned how long it's taking for food to come out. When it did come out it was pretty disappointing. We ordered a super overpriced lobster roll... it was small rubber nuggets of lobster. With all the negative about service and food.... I still might come back when the weather gets better again to hang at the outdoor bar for drinks and watching a game. The view of the dock and boats coming and going is pretty sweet. this place is incredibly unique. The staff is nice. The food is wonderful. The decor is unmatched. The vibe here is amazing. You definitely feel like you are in Florida. I am from the west side so we don't have a lot of restaurants like this. I really didn't like the east side, but the east side is really growing on me because of places like this where summertime is definitely a vibe there are a few places like this but Mike is on the water is definitely the best I have seen so far and I don't know if I just got lucky with experiences or what but this place has quickly become my favourite read more

Headed over for a Thursday lunch on a beautiful summer day. No wait when we got there but there was by the time we left. Had a nice table on the deck overlooking the marina. Staff were all very friendly. We enjoyed the lobster rolls, warm with butter, and they were quite good. The lobster wasn't the huge chunks I've had sometimes but the meat was all very tender & enjoyable--lots of lobster! Chips on the side were just ok, not really seasoned at all. You're not really on the lake, but on the marina. We tried to get a Lake St. Clair pic, driving up and down the road, but it's all private land, fenced, or if we found a park it was 'resident permit only', so that was very disappointing. Waited an hour and 15 minutes to sit when quoted at 45 mins. Took 2 hours from being seated to get food. Found dead bugs in their ketchup and mustard and silverware tray. The waitress never communicated to us there was an issue or anything while we sat there waiting for our food. It was also not busy so I don't know why it took so long. They were out of chips so they claimed we were going to have to pay for the onion rings or fries as the only side option (an up-charge because they were out of food) (I don't know if they ended up doing that or not) We sat there for 2 hours wondering what's going on. Finally food came and it was not that good. Chicken sandwich looked like it came from Leo's Coney Island. They charged a 1$ for ranch and never said anything about that. Not a great experience. I guess being on the water was nice. Bathroom was dirty. This place needs to communicate better with customers. read more

Im glad I got to try this spot before the weather got cold. I love a waterfront patio view so their patio was perfect to me. The food, not so much. I got the fish burgers, added cheese. I just wasn't impressed. I just had a hard time finding some appealing on the menu to eat. I got a margarita which was basic, nothing special. We visited Mike's On the Water on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for lunch. We ate outside on the deck. I started with the lobster bisque, which was a different take. The bisque was a bit more brothy, and the lobster was on a flat piece of bread, like a pizza. I thought it was good. I also had the mussels. They were very good, in a butter sauce. I split the mussels The star for us was the atmosphere. Outside with a casual bar and boats docking. The restaurant is set back in the marina. You have to turn off Jefferson, go through the gates, and follow the lines to the back. My wife and I agreed we would come back here. read more

My boyfriend and I live close by and love this place. We have never waited more than 15min to be sat (but we do go around 4:30pm typically) and the staff is always friendly. We enjoy the casual atmosphere; it is nice to have a casual waterside restaurant in our backyard. May have over hyped it in my head after wanting to try for years. Got that right at opening and were able to be seated immediately on the water. Fried pickles were great and came out quickly but we waited over 30 minutes for the peel and eat shrimp. Dishes also took awhile and the server explained they aren't allowed to leave the deck to check on their orders?? Strange policy but okay. My wife got a chicken caesar wrap as it was the special and there was a half a jar of may just dumped on top. She had to actually scoop it off. They also messed up our sides, bringing her chips instead of fries and completely forgetting my cole slaw. The food we were served was good outside of the mayo. I have gone here for many years. Tonight they were just bad. We arrived at 5:30 and were seated at 6:30. We ordered as soon as our servicer got to our table. Our servicer started making weird excuses after our food had not arrived after an hour. There were a lot of orders and ours would be up any minute. Then about 10 minutes later she said it would be up in about 10 minutes. She said the manager had to intervene and then it was another 20 minutes. For a place that boasts about having fresh seafood, I've had much better at Long John Silvers. This place was an absolute joke. I've seen it all over social media and I couldn't wait to try it with my friends to celebrate a small bachelorette party. There were so many problems. We ordered shrimp cocktail and it was definitely not fresh tasting. The shrimp tacos were sub par. I had the cod sandwich and it literally tasted like a frozen patty you can buy from Kroger. There was 0 flavor. The server brought out a cold lobster roll when my friend ordered the hot one. They refused to replace it or even warm it up. Even after a manger came over they fought with us about warming up the lobster. They finally toasted the bun and gave her warm butter. It was disgusting and sour. $24 for the worst lobster roll I've ever seen in my life. The aesthetic was cute I guess. It looked like a junk yard from the outside so I was completely confused. Inside was more nautical I suppose. As we walked out some ladies asked if the food was good. We swiftly told them no! You can't follow the social media hype. I love Mike's so much! The food is unique and delicious. It's definitely one of my happy places... feels like you're in the Florida Keys. I love looking at all of Mike's vacation treasures hung up everywhere. I should mention they have indoor and outdoor seating. Some of my favorites are the shrimp cocktail, the coconut shrimp, bisque, Mac and cheese, the piña colada, and the shrimp burger... to die for! You really can't go wrong. Service can be a bit slow because they get very busy, and plan on a wait to be sat if you go during peak hours. I never mind waiting. I just know to be patient. They're on island time! Haha The servers are mostly so friendly and I always love the hostess. She does a fantastic job considering how slammed they are. Hostessing is a tough job! You're the thing in the way of hungry people getting to eat, and people can be rude at times. Oh, you can also take your boat here if you're lucky enough to have one.
