I have been wanting to come to Flyleaf for some time and this Sunday afternoon I had some time to kill. Little did I know that Flyleaf Literature & Libations would be firing on all cylinders. It was a packed house on both floors including a private party in their meeting room on the second floor. One of the workers was kind enough to give me and my Yelp BFF the lay of the land. He shared that Flyleaf was hosting a Boy Band event with great music playing and lots of patrons taking advantage of their Sunday Brunch offerings. It was very festive and standing room only at the moment. They host various theme events every month. Although I have included the menu, their food offerings change too. They had a great book selection. I was impressed that they had four books featured that I recently purchased. I look forward to returning to kick back with a book on their patio with a pastry or two. read more

Such a unique and amazing place. Heard about Flyleaf several months ago and was finally able to make a trip over. Took my girlfriend who loves reading and bookstores. She was impressed. We ordered the Devils Eggs and Chefs Board. Both were great and had such great flavors. Jake, our server, was knowledgable and entertaining. Such a great asset to the overall experience. In honor of Women's History Month, stopped into this Woman-Owned business. It is a quaint bookstore, restaurant and gathering space. Theme: Literature & Libations. There's a maximum capacity of 37 people. They have two floors and an elevator, in addition to a beautiful wooden staircase. The space available for rent has a cozy wood burning fireplace and comfortable couches. Very clean restrooms. There's a bar on the first floor and a wide variety of books available to purchase. They have Sunday Brunch and today's theme was Boy Bands. The music was piped throughout and was at an acceptable volume. We were greeted and given a thorough review of the menu options and how to reserve a group reservation. A rooftop space is open during the spring and summer, weather permitting. This is a wonderful hidden gem and I can't wait to visit again! read more

You know me: love a good book bar! Flyleaf has been on my list for a while but Grosse Pointe is such a hike for me from Ann Arbor. I went with a friend for independent book store day and we had a great time and made a whole day of it! We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated in the cozy seats by the fireplace on the main floor. It was so pretty! We got some snacks and did our book club there and then browsed the books on the second floor. I ended up buying a book and we returned later in the afternoon to enjoy a coffee drink at the bar since when you buy something your receipt gets you a free drink from the coffee bar. read more

We came in planning on "girl dinner". We started with the deviled eggs. For me, they leaned a little more pickle-forward than my Midwest comfort-food soul usually wants. Not bad at all, just different than the classic potluck deviled egg I grew up on. The fries and dips were crispy, hot, perfectly salted, and the dips were so good. The goat cheese balls were also a win, but kept wanting to roll off my plate. Our server was helpful, kind, and let us take our time without hovering, which I really appreciate. It felt relaxed but still attentive. And the ambiance... OMG. A full vibe. Books everywhere, cozy corners, moody lighting, and just a really thoughtful layout. Two levels plus a rooftop, with all these little tucked-away spots that make you want to settle in and stay awhile. It feels intimate without feeling cramped. I don't make it out to the east side often, but I finally got a chance to try Flyleaf for dinner, and I'd definitely go back. The decor and ambiance are great -- it feels like a cozy, old-school stately house that got turned into a library. Definitely one of the coolest-looking spots in the area. For food, I tried a steak pizza and French fries and both were delicious. For drinks, I just had Champagne, though my friends had some cocktails that I sampled and they were both yummy. My only nitpick would be the service was a bit odd. The server didn't seem willing or able to provide food recommendations and definitely didn't know a lot about wine... when it was clear I was going to order a bottle, he probably should've had the Somm (I know for a fact they have one) come over, but he didn't. I asked him about the price of a bottle and he said he'd have to go downstairs to check but he never did, so I had to go down to check myself. Overall, though, it was a good experience and I'd love to check it out for brunch sometime. read more

Wine and books are two of my favorite things. I finally made it to Flyleaf late on a Saturday with a friend. Fortunately I made a reservation as they were quite busy on the cold, snowy day. I think it is more cafe than books store, but I love it as atmosphere, and you can browse while waiting for your table. The service was excellent, I've seen some mixed responses, but our experience was great with Jack. He recommended drinks and food options, and was spot on. The cocktail list appears to change regularly, and has a fiction theme. It was 'Wuthering Heights' during our visit. I had The Ghost at the Window, which was light but the rosemary made it a nice winter option. My friend had the Grange, she said it was a good pour, and liked having a warm drink on a cold evening. We split the goat cheese, fries (with trio of dips), and the orange and cranberry cheesecake. All very good, the only issue is for the goat cheese, we had to ask for more bread (extra $2, which is fine) the original portion did not match the amount of cheese. So this was the only mild annoyance. There were lots of groups of woman, which I loved. This is such a cool space and naturally allowed for woman to congregate. read more

We didn't have a reservation..we got there at 12:00 and didn't have a problem getting a seat...but next time I will get a reservation so I can have an actual table. We had the best waiter..Jack. So pleasant and knowledgeable. I told him what flavors I liked in a latte and he suggested one that was perfect. We ordered a Caesar Salad, the goat cheese balls with toast, and the fries with a flight of dipping sauces. 100% yes to all of that. Lots of books. Cute little notecards and a few things to buy. This is probably the most beautiful coffee shop I've ever been to. The ambiance is perfect, very lowkey and calm. The barista was so nice and really clicked with customers. Being surrounded by books with a nice drink was soothing and exactly what I want when coming to a shop to read. I (of course) bought a 2nd book to read, also! There were also signs that laptops were welcome before 11am, so I'd imagine if you're looking for a place to work all afternoon it's not actually allowed. I came at 9:30am on a Thursday, so can't say for sure if there's a laptop ban past 11am. I actually really like this rule - it's the only place I've been to that does this, which I think caters to the chill atmosphere and makes this spot super unique. The chocolate croissant was delicious and was warmed up I also ordered a dirty chai tea latte with whole milk, which was amazing. I highly suggest stopping by this shop if you're in the area. One of my favorite places to go now to relax, eat, and read. This place has such an amazing ambiance and atmosphere. I literally decided to try this place off the whim while my sister and I were out. We had such an amazing time. We ordered wine, appetizers and relaxed, laughed and joked around. We even reviewed a few books that were on the shelves. If you happen to be in the area, please stop by. You will not be disappointed, especially if you're an avid reader. The only reason why I rate it four stars is because there was a young lady of fair skin (she was an employee) that continued to stare and look me and my sister up and down as if we didn't belong. read more

Such a great experience! Tables are artfully scattered throughout the bookstore, and people browse freely while other diners enjoy their meals. Our party of three had the ginger carrot soup, which came in a generously sized bowl with bread on the side, French fries, which came with three dipping sauces (spicy ketchup, garlic mayo, and truffle mayo), and apricot chicken. The soup and the fries were outstanding; and the chicken was good, with a delicious sauce. We also had cocktails, which were delightfully named after Princess Bride characters. This is a unique bookstore space for coffee, cocktails and a small selection of food options. It's a beautiful 3 story space filled with books and plenty of seating throughout. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and while it was pretty busy, they were able to seat me and my husband pretty quickly. They were out of many food items but the server let us know right away and was apologetic about it. We were just there for drinks so we were fine with limited food options. I had the Buttercup to drink. It was refreshing and balanced between the sweetness of the elderflower and herbiness of the thyme vodka. I would definitely get again! I love their no laptop policy after 11am. I love they are trying to create a space for people to connect and talk rather than have a bunch of people sitting alone on their computers. Flyleaf is COOOL! It is serving dark academia. I went to get some work done and grabbed a coffee and soup. The coffee was ok, nothing too insane and the food was ok too. Just a good soup. I definitely need to go back and get some cocktails to get into the spirit of the place. There was limited inside seating besides there being 3 floors of space. And because it is a shop, it could get quite loud with different conversations, not a bad thing, just a note. Their menu changes throughout the day so I would recommend checking that out beforehand just to get an idea of what would be available. While you're there, find a book that speaks to you - they do a great job of highlighting themes of books and having them accessible to you! read more

Flyleaf Bookstore in Grosse Point has been on my radar for some time, and a recent book club meeting finally gave me the chance to experience its unique charm. The bookstore itself is a delightful space, with a cozy interior design that perfectly captures the essence of a literary haven. Stopped in for a few meetings and a bite and enjoyed everything about the experience! It's a hybrid bookstore, cafe, and cocktail bar and while I only got to enjoy two out of the three I really liked everything about it. The main floor houses the cafe which is where I spent most of my time. They were unfortunately having issues with their espresso machine so I went with the drip coffee and it was very nice. For lunch I had the potato mushroom quiche and it was excellent. I also had a bite of some of the frites and they were also very, very good. I would definitely get a side of those in the future! Our servers were so helpful and warm. I felt very welcome there. As it's a bookstore you're surrounded by so many interesting titles and things to peruse. The floors themselves aren't super big, with a lot of the square footage going vertical onto multiple floors. The dark hardwood detailing/decor leads to a really cozy but sophisticated vibe. My only regret is that I didn't have more time to linger and explore their shelves, but I will definitely be back. FYI--street parking is metered only and as far as I could tell only took coins. My friends, I never have change anymore. So I scrounged up about 25 minutes worth of nickels and dime and hoped for the best. Thank you to traffic enforcement for not swinging by during the following hour that I was expired. But I would not recommend tempting fate in such a way. read more

I drove 30 minutes to come check Flyleaf out. I wanted to journal, have a pastry and coffee and just relax. I brought my kindle and iPad. I was told tablets aren't allowed after 11 am. I wish that was on their website or posted on social media. I completely understand not wanting people to stay all day on their laptops but after 11??? Seems early. Also, reading a book takes time so what's the difference between journaling on my iPad? I left and went to Morning Glory across the street. A lot friendlier. read more

Hard to believe that anyone reads books anymore but if you were going to, this might be one of the most beautiful bookstores around. Gorgeous dark woods, beautiful seating, a gorgeous outdoor area, and books, so many books. Oh would you like to drink something caffeinated while you peruse the latest John Patterson? Coffee Check. Maybe get loaded and try to read something Twilightish or 50 Shades of Greyish. Cocktails check would you like to snack a little numnum while perusing the latest Rachel Ray cookbook? A very chic bookstore and bar. The decor is beautiful and they have a couple floors of books and also spaces to sit. I am not really sure how it works on all the floors to sit and order, they didn't really explain the options as far as that goes. The food and drinks are a little pricey but probably about average for being in Grosse Pointe. I wish there were a few more food choices. The deviled eggs my sister ordered were good, I do think it's fun they rotate the style of them. The French Fries were good, but I wish they had a variety of dipping sauces you could choose from. This is my third or fourth time at the Flyleaf and I fall in love all over again each time. The ambiance is second to none, and the staff are super helpful and friendly. They didn't have service upstairs until later in the day, but after we ordered at the bar downstairs, they still brought our food to us, which was very nice. We sat on the rooftop, and it was gorgeous - one of the staff even turned on the fireplace for us without us asking :) I ordered the mediterranean orzo salad - light, tasty, and perfect for a summer afternoon. I've been coming to Flyleaf for several years, and I've always enjoyed the space for its books and tea. Unfortunately, today's experience made it clear I won't be returning. The hostess was remarkably impolite and condescending from the moment I walked in. It was obvious that not everyone is made to feel welcome here, and she went out of her way to discourage me from staying. I prefer to give my business to establishments that treat all patrons with respect, and it was clear I wasn't welcomed here. The whole interaction had that closed‑circle, invisible‑velvet‑rope vibe -- the kind of unspoken boundary where you're quietly signaled you don't belong. It reminded me of the old Grosse Pointe exclusivity of the 70s and 80s. And while the concept seems to have shifted toward a reservation‑driven restaurant -- which is their choice -- it no longer has the warm, welcoming bookstore aesthetic that once made it special. Literature and libations? Not anymore. Lovely place in theory, but the experience today made it clear it's no longer for me. I won't be back. read more

My friends and I have driven an hour to Flyleaf in GP twice now and both times have loved the food and atmosphere! In the Christmas time, it's adorably and seasonally decorated. The bistro/bookstore is 3 levels, the third level being the rooftop which was closed for the weather. However, there is pretty limited seating and because it's also a bookstore, many people stay and do work/read, creating long wait times to sit and eat. There is an automatic 20% gratuity included in the checks and the food is pretty pricey, but all delicious. Can't recommend the fries enough!! Definitely would suggest coming into the winter when it's all decorated! read more

We visited here the first week of March around 6:20pm. This was my first visit! To be honest, I live not far away and I didn't even know it existed until days before our visit, and was pleasantly surprised. I've been to similar joints before but having one locally is very nice. We were told about 30 minutes for a seat so we put our name on the list. We ended up leaving for a bar nearby right before 7pm because no table opened up, so we only got one drink - I was waiting to take a seat for drink 2. My only complaint was that service was sssssllllloooowww. There was a table upstairs (next to where we were standing for most of the visit) where the 2 customers were waiting to get their check, they asked right after we posted up there. They eventually got the check, but, by the time we left, the employee still hadn't come back to take the card for them to pay. No wonder tables open so slowly. As for the drinks, I know that the 2 I visited with LOVED theirs. For me, I wanted a specialty cocktail, but I'm a vodka/gin girl and there weren't many options on their winter menu which was still being offered at the time. Multiple tequila & bourbon type drinks were being featured. I like aperol so chose the only option that sounded good to me, unfortunately it was a bit too heavy on the aperol so it was a tad *too* bitter for me. I'd 100% like to try their spring menu. I haven't seen it shared yet, but once I can take a look at it, I'd like to hit it up again. The ambiance is on point. Without a table it's hard to really browse the books. I like to read the cover and flip a bit. With a drink in hand, it's a little more difficult. The vibe is very chill, homey. The fire going is a nice touch and reslly adds to the charm. There are so many beautiful books! A couple additional places to set a drink would be nice for those milling around - a railing here and there I don't think would detract from the space. I haven't seen the Spring menu posted, but I'll keep checking because I feel like Spring at Flyleaf is going to be right up my alley. :) read more

This place is MAGICAL and I hate that it's so far from me, but it's completely worth the trip every time out to Grosse Pointe Farms! Flyleaf is this gorgeous coffee/cocktail bar and bookstore all in one! It has all these different pockets of areas where you can sit, get cozy, and read or work on your computer, while surrounded by all these gorgeous bookshelves and books! The interior decor is simply OUT OF THIS WORLD and I just feel SO at peace here! It's located in the downtown area of Grosse Pointe Farms and is definitely a must-visit. I'm going to be coming here often to just relax, catch up with friends, and sit and read. No laptops after 5 pm because that's when this space turns more cocktail bar, but cocktails are already served by the time we got here at 3 pm on a Monday. They also offer several pastries and we got one of their croissants (they were sold out of a lot of their goodies by the time we got there) and one of their muffins to split. Both were delicious and I also got a hot chocolate from them that was also delicious. My friend and I found a cozy spot on the second floor by the fireplace. She did some studying on her laptop while I read. I don't know how to describe this place other than simply MAGICAL. We need more places like Flyleaf in all areas around metro Detroit, but until then, I'll be coming here OFTEN! Love it!! read more

This is a wonderful bookstore/cafe offering! I visited on a Wednesday early afternoon after hearing its standing room only during their peak hours. There was no greeting upon entering, although there were 3 staff members who looked up from the bar area. I smiled and moved on. There are books, art, gifts and a warm glow from the wood paneling and lighting throughout each of the 3 levels. The staircases are lovely. There is an elevator available, though I didn't use it. There were several groups of people dining in, chatting, and enjoying coffee- which smelled delightful. I plan to return for a bite. Hopefully, there will be a better reception when we walk in. This is my second time having a bad experience so I thought I would share. My husband and I stopped by for a drink. We ordered and decided to sit on the roof top. We were told we couldn't sit out there because it was closed. There were other guest out there at the time. We were seated in a space then asked to move because guest arrived with rsvp. I asked another couple that were seated if they had RSVP and they said no. We were not offered another area to sit at. This happened to me before; however, I didn't think it was anything. Flyleaf is a beautiful cafe/bookshop that is stunning inside. The dark wood and carefully thought out decor is very inviting. A book lovers paradise. I was kind of sad to see people on laptops, there are so many amazing books to look and read here. Loved the unique seating arrangements. My friend and I snagged two leather chairs in a nook upstairs. We had a perfect latte, some reading and chatting. The only downside is the way the building is laid out you may have people hovering over you whole trying to browse books. With some reconfiguration that could be worked around. They do have a few food items but sadly nothing gluten free so I didn't try anything. There are some unique cocktails and wines on the menu and I could see coming later in the day for a glass of wine and a book. read more
