This has been our go to local pub for two years. We were lucky in the fact that we met Mellisa who took amazing care of us every time we walked through the door. Melissa's work ethic, & attention to detail is unmatched. Recently The Old Pony sold to a new owner. He has gone about this in the right way. The service was great, drinks were good, food was just ok. They have a good happy hour. We ordered martinis and beer. Also got a last word martini, which didn't taste like it was made correctly. I'd stick with the menu martinis next time. I got a burger and onion rings. Both were just ok. Dining companion got a craisin salad, she said it was bland. We split wings which were pretty good. Have a new favorite. Old Pony really nailed it. Makes me sad I don't live in GP but i guess i will have to spend more time visiting my friend that lives there because Old Pony is really fun. So, apparently the space the restaurant resides in has been host to several failed entities. It is small. Whomever owns Old Pony is smart. The restaurant has a refreshingly simple menu. The burgers, a few sandwiches, I think 1 salad, and a bunch of fried yummies. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and my friends had burgers. All were solid. The hot fries and totachos (think tater tot nachos) were fabulous. The formula is simple: Good low margin inexpensive food and great drinks. It works! Went to Old Pony last night and had an interesting experience. The food was great and priced well. The burgers and wings were very good. The hot fries are hot but still manageable. I really wish I could rate this place better but the service really dropped the ball. Not sure if it's a one off day or what but I left there with a taste of never coming back. Don't sit at a table because, even if there are only 3 tables filled it will take an hour to get one drink/food order. My partner and I put in a food/drink order at the same time since it took the server over 20 minutes to get to our table. Then she never showed up again. I had to flag her down for the bill and that was after 30 mins of waiting to see if she would come over. Unfortunately the server was busy having conversations w a patron at the bar. So my son and I walked into this pub. It was seat yourself so we found a table and sat. We were the ONLY African Americans in the bar. We sat and waited for what I felt was too long and nobody ever said a word. Finally, I stopped and asked a server where could we place an order. Some of the best happy hour specials in the area. They don't have an especially advanced menu when it comes to food but excellent when it comes to the fun sips. Had the grilled cheese sandwich which you would be hard pressed to go wrong with and they do a fine job with it. Crisp, gooey, and tasty. Tasted a few of the martinis and they were all good too. I've never been one to drink the softer ones, I'm more of a James Bond traditionalist with basic shaken not stirred and 3 olives. I would say to make sure you try this place in the summer when you can sit outside. I don't know why but I felt very claustrophobic sitting inside. It's a decent size space so not sure why. Weird day I guess. I am giving them a 4* for now, I do want to try and a few more things more complex than a grilled cheese before I change that.
