Village Grille is a GrossePointe staple. Their salad bar is a family favorite! The menu overall is pretty good. Unfortunately on this visit a friend tried the Old Fashioned and it left a lot to be desired. I suppose cocktails are not their strong suit. We stopped by here after my daughter's Christmas recital for a quick bite and all of the staff are amazing and nice. The bar is amazing and has lots of high tops and booths and bar space, Lots of TVs all over the restaurant to watch the game and a fun game room for the kids. They have a really nice salad and soup bar they keep very clean when it's open. The food is good. I got what I've always gotten since I was a kid. The chicken pita rancher. Plenty of TV's for sports viewing. It has a classic sports bar cozy feel. And yes, sometimes that is enough to overcome the god-awful food selections. And I mean, GOD awful. Why would you grill a Ruben style Rachel sandwich making the bread nice and crispy and toasted, only to then place the Cole slaw directly against the bread so it became a soggy, nasty mess by the time it hit the table. Why?!?! Here they also have a specialty soup called Taco soup which is in and of itself a Frankenstein soup but pretty darn delicious. In the wake if being out and off the menu for a few days, I ordered the New England clam chowder at the recommendation of the bartender. It is the single worst version of NE Calm Chowder I've ever tasted. This is a bowl of straight flour done in oil in a gloopy roux with a few dried chives and a big can of clams and potatoes. Hey chef, what are you saving the salt for? Did you even taste it before calling this batch compete? Or did it come from Sysco? How do you mess up a soup this simple so badly, how? Welp. We have been here so many times since we moved back & we discovered the magic of their carry out pizza! I also LOVE the soup & salad bar, my brother was right! Staff is always friendly except for 1 person which we now just tend to avoid. The cook /chef is always unbelievably nice and puts out a great product with a fairly large menu ensuring something for everyone! The ambiance is super casual which makes it great for low key food, the kids sports teams after events & just an unpretentious atmosphere. For many years a loyal customer visiting 1 - 3 times every week. Recently bar side service has been significantly worse and when raising concern with the owner I was complete fluffed off as he walked away while I was talking. Good people, terrible owner, it as real shame they do not care about their most loyal customers while service and experience has declined significantly. Said hes been there for 40 years and doesn't care but I doubt that posture will lead to many more. I liked Village Grille, a casual bar on one side, restaurant on the other side spot on Kercheval in Grosse Pointe. We three sat in a cozy booth and had a relaxing meal with local whitefish, a baked potato and crisp asparagus. Tasty, and for less than $20, very reasonable. Also, great service from Ryan who let us enjoy our cocktails first, mine a well poured, ice cold martini. Will return. For sure. read more

We love eating her when we are in the area. Fries are hot and delicious, food is always prepared as ordered and comes out quickly. We had French onion soup as well and forgot the photo. It was hot, flavorful, loaded with bread and cheese topping. My Reuben was piled with meat, crispy and tasty. I love how they put the sauce on the side so you can choose how much to apply. Our service was pretty general, nothing above and beyond but worked for us. The restaurant was clean and quiet for our lunch out. I have always found the service to be very good. The weight staff pays attention to customers and will fix any mistakes on the order. They are good about bringing condiments with your dish and are asking ahead about them. For lunchtime, it's a quiet place to be. in the evening and on the weekends, there are a lot of families who enjoy the place so there are a lot of children around. They have a game room and other things to keep them entertained, but sometimes the noise level is a little much. My friend ordered the Beef Nachos, and the nachos could've served a party of 4 really, it was a huge heaping of nachos, they weren't stingy at all with the portion sizes. He apologized, put in order for steak bits and they were horrible. I told the waitress....these are not filet bites. Her answer was, yeah, they changed that. Ive eaten here in the past and had good experiences there... so when I had unfortunate stay in a nearby hospital, ordered some food thru Doordash and was extremely disappointed. My food was soggy, didn't include any of the sauces that supposedly come with it nor any cutlery. When I called the restaurant, the "manager" was rude and basically laughed.. It was noon during a downtown family friendly event. He then told several others over continuing glasses of cheap wine about how annoyed he was kids were eating in the bar area. I've been here a few times in the past and never cared for it. I went today to try their new salad bar and it was pretty good. Their ranch was really good! If you're a ranch lover thats very important! It also had a variety of soup to chose from and a few different vegetable and pasta salads. The Greek tortellini was great. There were a pretty good selection of toppings for the salads. The types of lettuce were a little lacking. There was kale, ice burg, and Spinach. There were tortilla chips and something that looked like salsa. They should have nacho cheese! The service was awesome. I'd probably come back! read more

The customer is mostly wrong. That's the jist of my conversation with ownership (Dan). Let me back up a bit. Our family decided to give VG a try last light after a youth basketball game. We ordered a few items. Three of the four orders were wrong: an adult order of sliders (not kids) so it was bigger (kid did not eat extra portion) no lettuce (instead pickles and onions-grilled into the cheese) and extra basket of fries, and extra side of fries, no apple sauce, it continues. When the bill came, I brought up a couple miscues. The server told me that's just the way it was (even though it was clearly rung incorrect). Trying to maintain a good experience I decided I would just call the next morning and talk to a manager/owner. We started with liking up the order and then proceeded to tell me where I went wrong ordering or/and gave me she's new routine. He then said, I wish you had said something. I told him I tried and I just actually just told him. He then said I guess I owe you a kids burger and to just let them know next time . I also overpaid for $7 in fries, paid for an adult slider meal my kid didn't eat with onions, and paid for another kids meal when only asking for side if Mac&cheese. Probably $20ish in overages and still not a good meal. Read and trust the reviews of this establishment. There are lots of good places to eat. Whisky Six very close by is under new management. Well, tonight I gave Village Grill its third chance. It was an awful experience, actually worse than before. It was not busy so our food should have come out fairly quickly. We were waiting and waiting until the waitress informed us that our order had been lost. When we did get our meal it was terrible. Whomever washed the lettuce never dried it and both my meal and my husband's meal were soggy because of the extra water on the plate. My husband's meal had a longer stringy piece of lettuce handing off the plate that the waitress dragged across the table. His garden burger was odd tasting. It seemed that they tried to fry it frozen and then microwaved it. The bun had obviously been dropped on the grill on one side and was coated with crude from the grill. My fish was barely cooked through and the redskins were mush from the water on the plate. Both plates looked like food was haphazardly thrown on. No manager apologized nor offered to discount our meal. The waitress rarely checked on us before and after she lost our order. We will not be back. Will never recommend. Third strike and Village Grill lost our business. read more
