This will be a regular spot for me! Service, space and drinks were all excellent. The pizza dough is scrumptious (those who follow me know I'm picky about dough). The drink menu is extensive and definitely warrants more than one visit to try all of the ones you want. Great place for a group or if you want some quiet space to yourself. We returned to Mother Handsome's one morning recently for coffee and a pastry after a nearly 2 yr hiatus and a bit of disappointment. Wow. The space, service, coffee and fresh pastries were stunning! Ample free parking is available out back. The interior was open, inviting, comfortable and clean. Music was low volume and conducive to companion conversation. Our coffee was excellent. We enjoyed a rich, dark chocolate brownie with our beverages. Delicious. Price point is moderately high, but the quietude and quality experience were worth it to this reviewer. read more

I was in the area yesterday evening and did a quick search for coffee. I found that Mother Handsome was on the way home and decided to give them a try. I got the "burnt orange espresso tonic" and a "rosemary biscuit". Both were amazing. The biscuit was warm and buttery and the included jam (which appeared house made) was the perfect compliment. The flavors were all distinct but complimentary and made this into a spectacular treat. The espresso tonic is the best I've had. The flavor was fresh, light and fruity, with the bitterness of the coffee keeping it grounded and sophisticated. I even ate the orange slice at the end. The wait for my drink was probably about 7-10 minutes but knowing that in the future, I'm willing to plan around if the product is going to be this good. I want to come back and try the food but I will make it a point to return the next time I'm on this side of town. read more

Came here for some coffee and ended up having some lunch and we really enjoyed it! Mother handsome has a great environment very cool inside and would be a great place to grab a coffee and get some work done. Lots of seating and there was a smaller sectioned off area that some kids were playing in when we were there. The options that they have here are really great and I could come back anytime of the day. I got a dirty soda type drink and it was very refreshing on the very hot day that we went. We also just got a basic pepperoni pizza for lunch and that was very good. A thin crust and some pepperoni, it was just enough for us to for lunch and we were good for most of the day. So they had lots of options for cocktails and it was a bit too early for us to be drinking but we're definitely going to come back here soon and try out their alcoholic beverages. Really liked the inside of this place again and the service was pretty good. Will be coming back for sure! read more

Dined here for a private networking event. Cute eclectic space. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a ton of games and activities for the kids. There doesn't appear to be a hostess. Just order at the counter and sit where you want. Great espresso martini - just overpriced ($14). Pizza was good fresh (not after it sat out). The white pie was the best of the bunch. Lots of coffee options. I'll try the banana bread pour over next time! read more

This is a cute establishment. Very welcoming and modern atmosphere. Note that there is a front and back entrance, there is plenty of parking in the back A solid 5/5 for the pizza-'Mama said knock you out' was delicious. There is a nice kick to this pizza and the pizza was made to order and arrived to the table hot and steamy - just as it should be --Yaay! No additions were needed I.e.: crushed pepper or Parmesan. Customer service id rate 4.5/5 it appeared as though a team member was leaving for shift so although she made our first round of drinks and took our order. This waitress was ready to jet out and did not check in on us-- thankfully we didn't need anything more. There after the team was focused on cleaning up for closing time. I understand, but I am still a paying customer too. There is a private seating area that can be rented out, there is the option to rent the entire restaurant too. Inside the private room area there are toys and books- kid friendly and when the weather breaks there is a garage door that can open up to a patio. In addition to pizza and cocktails/beer there is coffee and pastries. I would come back to try the pastries and a latte, as I am not a coffee drinker. But there is multiple bags of coffee for sale too. All in all I am happy we stumbled upon this restaurant based on other Yelp! Reviews. See you soon again. read more

Solid pizza and a fun atmosphere! The menu has some fun pizza combos to try and the selection of drinks includes some beers from the brewery next door. Open seating makes it a little tough to get a table when it's busy on Friday/Saturday nights so I recommend going at "off" times if you don't want to wait. read more

The 12-5 happy hour is the best. Really good martini menu. I missed the Hot Madre today. Free parking in a back lot. Friendly staff. Fun seating options from couches to high tops. You can actually talk here. Pizza (both vegan and not). 12" one topping is only $10 during happy hour. Baked goods, coffee, and so many vegan options. Their banana coffee and latte are amazing!!! Also the banana cake. I may never review anything else because I'm addicted to those two items. If I try something, I'll update but I'm consistent with what I love. I haven't dined in yet but it is a really cool, chill place. The store is bright and welcoming with colorful murals, friendly staff, and cozy corners with couches. The food and drinks are tasty and they have options for GF pizza crust. There is a private room that can be rented for private parties and is also used for special events such as networking and crafts markets. Trivia night has become tradition. Fire. You must try this gem. Mother Handsome really left a memory in my foodie bank. We will definitely be back. Located in Royal Oak, the space is cozy & laid back. Before I start, I wanna talk about the music that played here. They played Laufey, Mitski, Beabadoobee, Mac Demarco, and Radiohead back to back, again, and back again. I pray for the person on the aux. It'll get better soon man, don't worry. Anyways, before I break Yelp's relevancy guidelines, let's talk about the food! I was incredibly shocked to see that a single slice of the Margarita Pizza was 8 dollars. And get this, a 12" Rita is 17 dollars. So you could either 4 slices that are worth two slices, or.... I'm sorry my brain is brand spanking new it's like 6am when I'm writing this. What I'm trying to say is that I had very high expectations, cause like what? And that's insane compared to the Matcha Latte, which was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Okay, before I get to the pizza, let me talk about this Matcha. The Matcha Latte with a little drizzle of honey, is so, so refreshing and carefully strained to perfection. The barista has clearly an eye for this stuff, because this is some of the most delicious matcha in Berkley, since Coffee and Bark's matcha is genuinely disgusting. But this is Mother Handsome, not Coffee and Bark. That is a long rant for another time. I'd much rather rant about how everyone started staring at me when I walked in, it was like a cartoon. Maybe I need to take rejection therapy or something cause that made me genuinely insecure and disheveled. Wasn't their fault though, I had a really strange hat on that day. The pizza was such a floppy let down. The pizza is not that impressive, especially with all these high expectations. The raving reviews, the expensive undertaking, the atmosphere even seemed a little competitive. It had me kind of sad I drank my Matcha Latte before hand, that's probably a loophole they do. They make their matcha really good and their pizza really underwhelming, so they'll finish the Matcha first, and then buy another one after to wash down the E40. Okay, I'm done. The interior was incredibly cozy, I had a very nice seat in the corner of the building and enjoyed my second Matcha (okay fine I fell for it) under the sun, while thinking about how much I abused my bank account this week. Rented a party room for a family party. Everything was handled so well! We did an open bar. Drinks came quickly and the service on refills was excellent. We did a pizza and salad buffet. Super tasty pizza. Regular, Greek and Caesar salad. And some nice garlic flatbread. Very happy with the party. This place is popping! Clearly a local favorite, and i can see why. VERY child friendly which is a plus for me as a mama! My husband and i stopped here on a whim for a quick lunch, and we were throughly impressed. We had the buffalo chicken pizza and each had a beer, he ordered a shaken "sugar daddy" espresso to go and really enjoyed that. (He can be kind of a snob when it comes to coffee) The over all ambience of the place is very cool, and trendy. We will definitely be returning here. read more

It looks like I might need to park in the back. There's only parking in the back then. It's packed in the back. Back patio. The menu is pizza and more carby pizza mostly. Ordered at the bar, grabbed a Mom's house 16" with up charge of chicken instead of pepperoni, Greek salad with feta on the side, Caesar salad. $55.12 The Greek salad is okay, lots of yellow Romaine pieces. Nothing special. The Caesar is so-so, the dressing is more of a vinaigrette. The bread on top of the salad seems stale and hard, not so good. The pizza is thin, except for the crust. It's okay, the spicy sausage is what gives it flavor, otherwise the Mom's house is bland. The crust isn't bad, just not as chewy and airy, more dense than I prefer. Service at the bar was good, attentive and polite. read more

First time visiting and it's Trivia night. The restaurant was packed but didn't feel too crowded. We were able to find a table, order two 12 inch pies and drinks quickly. The drinks arrived really fast and I loved the dirty Chai martini. The food arrived soon after and both pizzas were delicious. I loved the flavor of the cheese sent the dough had a soul dough finish. I'll try to come again during happy hour, when the 12 inch pies and espresso martinis are only $10! read more

The pizza was pretty good. Think crust, good balance of toppings. Their bread is simply a thin, sliced pizza crust with herbs sprinkled on it, so you might want to get the marinara as a dipping sauce. read more

the pizza was delicious!!! We got the summertime lemon ricotta and the hot honey pepperoni pizza. Service you just order on your phone/QR code so it was pretty simple. The environment was so cute!!! Lots of seating inside but they also had a great patio outside as well. They also have a coffee bar too so it was giving a coffee shop vibe too. Lots of parking in the back. read more

Visited Mother Handsome for the first time today. The good and the meh... First, the good: My latte was prepared exactly according to my finicky order and it was very tasty. The person at the counter who took our order (tomato soup, two pizzas, and coffees) was friendly and made helpful suggestions. The soup and pizzas came out piping hot. The coffee was very good. The music was played at a low volume that allowed for conversation. The vibe is relaxing and extremely pleasant. Now for the meh: The tomato soup's taste was acidic and raw. Not the usual tomato-soup-tart but sharply acidic, and it needed to be cooked longer. The person who brought out our pizzas dropped them on the table - literally, banged it down - and, scowling, walked away. Before we could start eating, we had to wander around to find plates, napkins, and cutlery. It would have been fine to get our own if there was a sign saying to do that, but there was no visible sign, and having to step away from freshly-plated hot food is a bummer. The pizza crust had a pleasant sourdough aroma but it had an unpleasant aftertaste. I'd definitely return to Mother Handsome for coffee and dessert but I probably won't go back for a meal. read more

I ordered take out from here and it was extremely fast service! The pizza was fresh, the salad as well. Overall, a decent pizza. I wish there were some red onions or more red onions on it for a nice crunch. I didn't love the pizza crust and felt there could have been more sauce. The Greek salad was as expected. read more

Went here on a Wednesday night for happy hour Tu-Th 2-5pm (check their Instagram). This place has it all. The decor is cozy and cute with multiple different areas to sit: comfy couches, high top tables, long tables, and intimate spots. It's a casual place where you order at the front counter and sit down with a number. When your food/drink is ready they bring it to you. This was perfect for our happy hour since we like to sit and chat.l so we weren't rushed out once we were done. They also have a kid play area in a separate space behind doors guessing this is a party room or just to contain kids and noise which is genius! I had the Hot Madre Espresso Martini and it hit the spot. A great balance of flavors with depth and creaminess that wasn't spicy despite the hot honey simple syrup, but was warm and cozy on a rainy night. I also got the bbq chicken pizza which was the perfect balance of toppings and flavors. Anothers in my group had a hot toddy and Elderflower French 75, which they said was really good. And for food they had the Mom said knock you out pizza which she said wasn't too spicy but a nice balance of heat. The other had the Cesar salad which was very large could feed 2 people. Overall a great place for food, cocktails, ambience. The perfect third place! read more

We went here to celebrate my son's birthday. We had 6 adults and 2 children. We all ordered different pizzas along with salads and their cheese bread. It was the first time any of us had been here. Everyone enjoyed their pizza and enjoyed our dinner with a glass of wine and some of the great craft beer available on the menu. Friendly and welcoming staff in addition to the upbeat atmosphere made for a great night. I wish we had a Mothers Handsome out in our. neck of the woods. read more

I've been wanting to come try this place and I finally did. Went on a Saturday, pretty busy but there are various seating options inside and outside. The tiramisu espresso martini was delicious! The alcohol to coffee ratio was perfect. Ordered it from the table from scanning the code on the table. I got my drink pretty fast too. Also tried the Handsome cheese bread (not pictured) which was pretty good as well. Can't go wrong with cheese bread with a side of ranch and marinara sauce. read more

Love this coffee/pizza joint in Oak Park! Last night was my third time visiting... we went first for coffee, second visit was takeout, and last night I met my friends there for a book club. While I was unsuccessful making a reservation for a Friday night via Open Table, they were able to accommodate our group when I called and spoke to someone. The drinks... to die for! We probably tried 7 or 8 different drinks between the group of us, loved all of them including the mocktails! We ordered 4 different pizzas to try and they were all great. The kitchen is happy to make special requests if you want to add something or leave something off. I will certainly return to this local stop! Our takeout experience wasn't great- the salads are kind of cheaply put together and mine was pretty brown. I'd recommend eating at the restaurant if possible. read more

Our cappuccinos and almond croissant were spot on. Have tried many almond croissant at many local bake shops, this may be the best so far. The almond paste filling was better - reminded me of the almond croissant from Le Petite Prince. So many bakeries default to another filling that imo is gross. Great happy hour deal! It's $10 for a 1-topping pizza or $5 for a big slice. i got the pizza but honestly should've done the big slice! it was a giant slice my friends got!! their cocktails were cute but i just opted for a beer from a local brewery. the workers were young and fun when interacting with our table. lastly have to highlight how aesthetic this place is. lots of tables and more casual seating like couches. don't forget to order by QR code or at the counter to get the happy hour deal before 5! can't wait to come back :) read more

Shared free parking lot with the Oak Park Social District. This is a new coffee shop/bar/pizza place that went in to replace a very fancy coffee and mocktail bar. I have been here three times. The first time I had hot chocolate and it was bad. Staff was new, and not good. I looked around the the set up was nice, a mix of couches and tables grouped, and some high tops. They have a separate cry and play room for children. I gave them another chance, and the cocktails were good and the staff was good. The third time I was with a group, they have a choice of two kinds of tap beer, and some bottled. I had the Oberon and the taps and lines were clean. I had the pizza and it was good, sort of a modified New York style. Service was okay. read more

I've been receiving emails from Mother Handsome for months, and the pictures of their pizza looked incredible--crispy crust, bubbling cheese, everything you'd want in a great slice. So, during a lunch break, I decided to finally check it out. My first visit was on a Monday, but to my disappointment, they don't serve pizza on Mondays. The bartender mentioned they had sandwiches and soup instead. I asked for a menu, but apparently, they don't even have one for those items. I ended up with a grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was good, but I came for pizza and left feeling let down. Fast forward a couple of weeks: I decided to give it another shot on a Thursday. This time, the bar was packed with people reading or working, and the remaining seats weren't really usable because of a laptop and charger occupying the space. So, I sat at a table instead. I waited. And waited. For 15 minutes, no one came over to take my order or even acknowledge I was there. Frustrated, I decided it wasn't worth it and left. After two visits, I still haven't been able to try the pizza that originally drew me in. As we followed our greeter to our table I kept screaming in my mind "no no no no no not that table no!" and she sat us at a table in full blasting sun. Nevermind the fact that there was a whole shaded section in the back part of the patio area. The rest of my group said it was fine and a beam of sun slowly bore a hole through my chest. Drink orders were up. I ordered a fabulous cross between a Moscow Mule and a Mojito. A+++ for the drinks. Mine was loaded with fresh mint from their garden. Same grade for our waitress who explained the drinks in detail and ended with "ugh- are you sure you want to sit at this table straight in the sun?" The other two said it was fine. I was ready to move, but was out voted. She continued to check in regularly and brought extra water. Most items on the menu were hot. I considered the fish, but we all landed on appetizers and we would just bounce from place to place for bites and drinks. We ordered the charcuterie board and the lavender lemon whip with bread and cucumbers for the 3 of us. The charcuterie board was the large version and had minimal offerings. It wasn't full and pretty. It was little piles of each thing on a board. This one definitely wasn't making it into Better Homes and Gardens magazine. There was a little pile of mixed nuts, a little pile of lose green grapes, a little pile of lose red grapes - not all grapes pristine or large and none were on the vine. There were 3 little piles of cubed cheese and 2 types of sliced sausage and sliced pepperoni. There were 8 crackers that were wheat thin size. This matters because we had some onion jam on the board and a nice serving of mustard. There really wasn't anything to put them on except for the 8 little crackers. That part was weird. These weren't elevated offerings. I could have picked up any of these at Walmart. They were not elevated quality either. We also got a lavender lemon infused whip which was their answer to tzatziki sauce. It was excellent but again, we were given so much of the sauce without a bunch to put it on. The cucumbers were sliced lengthways and there was a lovely bread that tasted like sourdough. There was 6 pieces of bread, and these were not particularly large pieces. A lot more would have been needed to use all of the sauce they gave. The proportions were off. All together the bill was over $100 for the 3 drinks and appetizers. If I ever did go back I won't order food based on what I experienced. There are too many other great options within walking distance.
