One of my absolute favorite spots in Corktown. Walking into the old industrial type building with its dark brick you are immediately greeted by the giant bar. The staff has always been super nice and willing to explain the flavor profile of every drink to you so you can actually make a great decision. Also, since Two James makes spectacular spirits, every drink is delicious. They are so well balanced between flavor and kick, it's brilliant after brilliant. Service: LOVE Rachel! There were only 2 bartenders on a Friday evening. They handled it very well. Food: we had a few cocktails. Apparently, the Johnny Sour tasted light but there was enough liquor in it . I was too set by the 2nd drink. Ambiance: fun circular bar! Not very big but nice chill atmosphere. I was introduced to Two James in Grand Rapids, my hometown when I visited during the Christmas holidays. We met Rachel there and stayed much longer than we had anticipated. Absolutely LOVE THE DASHI SHOTS there. To our dismay, the Detroit location did not have this shot. But it did have Rachel because she moved east. This was my first visit and will not be my last. I was expecting a large room with lots of tables and a huge crowd, but I was pleasantly surprised at what greeted me when I opened the door. There is a large round cement bar in the center of the room with ample seating. There is also a limited number of tables surrounding the bar. The bartenders there were friendly, knowledgeable, and were able to make great suggestions. While I wouldn't recommend showing up with a large party, it's a great date night drink spot before or after dinner. read more

The drinks here give you a whole different feeling of intoxication. It's nothing like the liquor that's mass made and sold. I was very surprised at the tastes and smells what I all tried. I'll say my #1 favorite was the rum. I have never smelled or tasted anything like it. And it's At 114proof (Navy Strength) I ordered the jungle bird drink which contains pineapple rum. To me the drink smelled like acrylic nail salon and cherry lipgloss. Alone, the bottle itself smelled like straight nail salon. The ambiance was really nice, and the chocolate I tried with my tasters were amazingly paired I had a great time and would definitely come back. Solid place to grab cocktails in Corktown. Came on a snowy night and it was warm and welcoming. A few tables were filled but not loud at all, I really appreciate bars where you don't have to yell to talk. Ambiance was ok, just brick walls with no art. They have a selection of different whiskeys and a variety of cocktail options. I ordered the 'All that Glitters' rye whiskey cocktail--glitter sprinkles are pretty gimmicky, but it was a strong drink. They have DJ nights and offer tours and merch of their brewery right next door. Bartenders were fast, friendly, and helpful. There's paid street parking directly outside and all along Michigan Ave and side streets (depends on day and time). It was nice to stop in to try out, but there wasn't anything special about this place that makes me really want to go back. read more

I attended a Yelp event tonight, but I have been here numerous times over the ten years they've been open. The location is amazing next to the newly renovated Michigan Central Station. The service is always quick and friendly. I enjoyed the cocktail I purchased as well as the thoughtfully paired selections of Two James Spirits and DWAAR Chocolates. We ended up purchasing the Gin that is for anyone who hates gin. It tasted like 7up and I could totally just sip on that. We also got the Coffee Chocolate from DWAAR. I totally recommend both of these businesses and would you encourage to visit the Distillery for a few cocktails. Next time I think we will check out their restaurant across the street. read more

My friend brought me here with high recommendations because he knows how much I love absinthe, as it is my go-to order. Our bartender prepared it with the traditional absinthe fountain with two faucets. I wish the fountain was actually set in front of us, so that we can watch the preparation up close, since the preparation is one of the most fun parts of drinking absinthe! Really enjoyed it here. I love this place. The cocktails are extremely unique and tasty. They are different so you have to keep an open mind. They also have tasting flights for the liquor and can do specialty shots. The staff was attentive and busy but friendly for the most part. The garage door opened up to outside which was great and there are a lot of tables for four around the bar and a couple barrels to sit around but the stools are flimsy and uncomfortable. Sometimes Detroit seems very...not busy. I feel like I should see more people walking around but I dont. Anyway, Sugar House had a 40 minute wait but our friends said this place was also cool. They make their own whiskey. But I learned that it's not as strong as KY bourbon. Regardless, by sister ordered an ube drink that had some of it in there. It was very sweet! We all ordered drinks with other kinds of alcohol in it. Can't even remember the name of my drink. But it was delicious! The space very much reminds me of a distillery. Two James is rather small and consists mainly of a very large rounded bar. The mixologists are in the middle and pumping out the drinks. We stopped by this quaint little distillery in Corktown for a tour and sampling of Detroit's best distillery. The drinks were very strong and reasonably priced. Plenty of parking available behind the distillery. Tours are to be prearranged and run $15/person but include a nice tour and some samples of the good stuff. I really enjoyed their gin, it's the only one i've been able to drink that doesn't kill me with pine needle flavor. I enjoyed their old fashioned while my husband and friend had the absinthe. They also have bottles of booze for sale. Prices seem high for the bottles but the drinks were reasonable. read more
