The brewery splits their offerings between Jolly Pumpkin sours and North Peak Brewing Company's variety of styles. My husband ordered a Jolly Pumpkin pint right away. I wanted to try a flight but needed time to choose. Our bartender Lenice gave me all the time I needed. When a couple of my picks weren't available, she brought me samples of other beers to try. I liked one of the samples. Jason, the manager, helped me make my final selection. I don't typically drink sours, but these weren't the kind that make you pucker. They were subtle. Definitely my kind of sours. Jason shared stories about the brewery's history and owner. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the place really came through. Lenice stopped by a few times to check if we needed anything. Both Lenice and Jason made this visit memorable. Lenice kept the energy light and friendly. Jason's passion for his work and the brewery added depth to the experience. If you're in the area and want good beer with even better service, stop by Jolly Pumpkin Brewery.

I wouldn't sit here for hours on end because the seats aren't particuly cozy, but the vibe is totally welcoming and the people that work there have always been very friendly and nice. I've been able to get good recommendations for drinks when I can't quite choose. I think the beer selection is always varied. I like a sour, farmhouse, saison, etc and the options are always pretty good. If in the area, I would not hesitate to bring a friend or visitor.

The pizza has this really good sweet-and-spicy sauce, and I loved the honey butter crust--so good. Everything was delicious and I'd definitely recommend it. I don't know what this man's intentions were, but he could've came up to me and just simply asked "are you doing okay? is there anything i can do for you?" instead of scooping me out as if i was getting ready to commit a crime. as I spend more time being back in my home in Detroit, i'm just not understanding why it's too difficult to receive decent and humane customer service. i'm just in complete concern & dismay due to this experience, do so much better.

It has that charming, welcoming dive bar energy that feels relaxed, unfussy, and immediately easy to like. The staff was friendly and fun, which set the tone nicely from the start, and the music was great all around. It is the kind of place that feels lively without trying too hard, which is very much in its favour. One of the coolest surprises was the speakeasy tucked away almost in plain sight. It can be rented for private events, and it is much larger and more finished than you might expect, with a really nice atmosphere that makes it feel special without losing the bar's overall charm. They also have a great outdoor area with a large TV display, which adds even more appeal if you want to linger a while. And then, of course, there was the happy hour deal: $8 for a shot and a Surfside, which had us at hello and frankly required very little convincing. Overall, PJ's Lager House delivered good drinks, good music, kind people, and a very good time. I would happily go back.

Some of the drinks where a tad pricey, so I highly recommend the beers, but the servers are funny and genuine, we got to see the red tum club and heat above (both excellent) and there's a part of me that prefers the closeness and intimacy of seeing a band or just throwing back a few. When I suggested "German with German beers on tap" the decision was made. We lucked out with our arrival on a busy night as the place is first come, first served and it is not at all very large. Three or four tables, two community tables and a dozen seats along the bar. And if you're not inside, you're queued up outside. We got the last two tables. Beer? They have all the big German beers on tap in large and larger glasses. Or if you want a tin? They have that too. They even have the good NA beers if you prefer. I started off with the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen from Dortmund Germany (not very Germany purity law pure, but it's hot). On a hot day after walking too many streets of Detroit, this was a treat. With dinner, the Hefeweizen from Brauerei Pinkus Müller from Münster, Germany. Both cold and delicious and refreshing. For dinner, I chose the wurst platter, taking off the potato pancakes (I'm sorry) and substituting red cabbage. They were deliciously grilled, served hot and I enjoyed them very much. The only miss was that they didn't have their own mustard. I had to use the table mustard which was a bummer. Great service, we were never rushed though the serving staff was trying very hard to keep up with the flow. It was a fabulous meal and my great Yelp reputation with my colleagues continues. I swear the odor is so powerful every breath fills your nose with mold. Everything in here doesn't look like it's been maintained cleaned or dusted in 30 years. There's piles of random items above the drink counter that look like it harbors dust from the 80s. Particles going right in the drink. On top of that they charged $10 at the door. And clearly it's a friends benefit kinda place because in the 45mins we were there we were LITERALLY THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO PAID A DOOR CHARGE!! Now we are sitting at the bar no drink menu no nothing. I order a simple 2 green tea shots and the waitress is like staring at me. And I'm repeating my order and she started making clicking noises with her mouth bopping her head like she tweaking. I ask her how much it will be and completely ignores me. She's definitely giving under the influence vibes. I'm like shouldn't be more than 20 dollars. NO I was charged 25 dollars for 2 green tea shots in a plastic shot cup. 45 mins and we were down 45 dollars place was gross af and the green tea shot tasted like straight sour mix.. The lady never even came back to the end of the bar to ask if we wanted something other than a green tea shot. Just spaced out talking to other bartender. We cut our losses and ran straight for the door Place needs Bar Rescue or a wrecking ball.
