Jacoby's is inviting, with warm woods and a well stocked bar.

Such a fun place! Our group of four sat at one of Jacoby's high tops, which was comfortable. Between us, we had a variety of drinks, from wine to beer to a cocktail. All were good, and were served quickly with a smile. Between us, we had schnitzel, sausage soup, spaetzle, and burgers, all of which were tasty. I recommend you get yourself down to Detroit's oldest bar (1904).

Stopped in her as we had a work meeting in Detroit and I took out our team to here and wasn't disappointed at all great selection of of beers and had decent bar food as well. The bar tenders were great too! Had a great Detroit feel to it as well.

We wound up at Jacoby's for a late night drink and snack. It's got an old school feel with a very straightforward staff. I opted to try the potato pancakes that were fried to a delightful crispiness. We also got a pretzel plate that was pretty good. My friend got over ambitious and tried the power to the people green fist beer. The place can get hopping at night and be a bit noisy and has a fun jukebox that can play just about anything for $5.

Stopped in for lunch over the weekend. On the surface it just looks like a dive bar, but it ended up being way better! The bartender was busy as she was tending the bar and waiting on all the tables but service was very attentive. Our food was also very good. They offer some typical bar food as well as German dishes. Everything seemed homemade which was a plus. They also have a speakeasy type bar upstairs that's open in the evenings Thurs - Saturday or Sunday called 1904. Definitely need to check that out soon.

Let's just do the math. If this place has been around since 1904 it's probably pretty good. Yes, this bar has been around since Theodore Roosevelt was President. Any place in the service industry that can be around for that long is likely a safe option for hanging out and having some drinks. Vibe is historic with a twist of Detroit pride. The service is quick and they make really strong drinks. I'm going to start going here before Tiger's games.

Classic German fare at the oldest German Biergarten in Detroit. They have regular pub fare too. Really good fried pickles as a starter. Excellent schnitzels, sausages, meatballs, potato pancakes, Spätzle, cabbage, sauerkraut and all the goodies you would expect. Excellent service from Carrie/Kerri (sorry, not sure how to spell her name). Full bar and plenty of beer and cocktail choices. Easy parking. Public parking lots on both sides. I paid $7 tonight (Tuesday).

We had been craving German food and were grateful to be visiting this area! They didn't disappoint. Amongst the table we had schnitzel, Rueben and spätzle. This place was established in 1904 and is now being run by the 4th generation. So good.

Jager Shnizel lacked mushrooms but overall great meal

Crispy, cutlet, great food, lacking mushrooms in the sauce. Overall, I'm satisfied.

I'm just in town for a conference and know nothing about Detroit restaurants besides what I can find online. I was a little hesitant about going to this place after seeing the string of negative reviews from last summer, but I saw they'd been positive since then. I'm so glad I came! First of all, the service is great. The bartender/server and barback/busser were both so friendly and welcoming and attentive. Second, the food is bomb. I got the meatballs with spaetzle and cabbage and it was ! The meatballs were juicy and flavorful with capers and a beurre blanc sauce. The spaetzle were the perfect crunchy-chewy-pillowy texture and even the cabbage was 10/10. I also really enjoyed my beer - had never tried Hackor Pschorr before. The ambiance is homey and divey, definitely comfortable inside although it looks hecka divey outside haha. I'll def come back when I'm next in town. Thank you!

I'm not from Detroit. I lived there as a kid and my dad and I take a once a year trip for a Wings game. On our way out of town, we pulled up to this delightful spot and had a hearty lunch before sitting in DTW for a bit. One, I'm glad I gave up the sauce. I hit my lifetime quota a few years ago, and if I hadn't I'd probably be a regular (read: attempted to have taken up residence above or below the bar, lost any semblance of employability, and would have attempted negotiate room and board with the owners by offering barbacking and janitorial service). It would have been bad. Why? Because this is a beautifully appointed, small, warm, unpretentious bar. It feels every bit of having 120 years' worth of history to it. (TANGENT WARNING: And it's located next to, I think, a place where one can watch women, ostensibly, critique scant pieces of attire by discarding them one by one to loud music. Performance art, I've heard, featuring feminine superiority through the judicious exercise of selective wealth distribution from the lesser base-driven male to superior calculating female sex. END DIATRIBE/RIFF) As for the food: I had a the German Sausage Dinner with knockwurst, weissewurst, and brat. All standard, all good, nothing life changing. The kraut was standard, pungent. The potato pancakes well well fried, crispy, light. The guy running the bar was affable though the place was dead (not surprising at 11:45 on a Monday after the Lions had vanquished the Bucs; apparently Detroiters' hair of the dog approach involves going to work rather than calling in notification of absence- the Midwestern work ethic is alive and well!). All in all, for the food, very good, not great. If I worked Downtown Detroit and wanted to walk to lunch, this would be in regular rotation.

Regarding service, the bartenders are usually fun, and I am a fan of all of them. They provide great service even when they are packed. But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location.
