Marge!

I love the Lager House! Love that they offer so many vegan options, along with a regular animal menu. It's cool, and laid back. Next time I'll take a picture of my food. Marge walks around and loves to casually beg for food! We love coming here before a Lions game or Tigers game!

THIS PLACE WAS AWESOMEEEE First off, I loved the vibe here at the bar. Divey for sure! They had live music tonight along with a surfside sampling and I loved every moment. My friends and I had the best time and all of the workers were so sweet. Definitely want to come back. The black and bleu burger was AMAZING and maybe the most underrated bar food spot right outside of downtown. My burger was cooked to perfection and the BC was so yummy. My boyfriend got wings and lemmeee tell you pplidk if I'll go anywhere else. Also, a special thank you to Sam for the free lemonade surfside, I now have a favorite seltzer! I've almost tried every flavor in house tonight sorry you couldn't see the whole image of the burger I ate it all

Fabulous bar!!

This place saved us! We arrived early to the wedding venue behind them and the wedding guests were able to get coffee, drinks and a bite to eat. Thank you to the Lager House staff!!!! You are the best and we will be back now that we know you are here

The NO. 1 with eggs over medium, bacon and white toast.

I visited Lager House for a friend's birthday brunch. The atmosphere lacked warmth and coziness on that this particular cold and rainy day. Despite it being tucked away and unnoticed during my many drives past, they accommodated a table of 10 for brunch, which was fantastic. I ordered a classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. While the potatoes looked a bit sad, they turned out to be the highlight of the plate. Everybody seemed to enjoy their food and it was reasonably priced which is hard to find in Detroit nowadays. The service was excellent, ensuring our coffees were filled, and mimosas kept coming. While the restaurant may seem typical of a bar in Corktown, the service and food were what made the visit worthwhile.

The podcast in question.

Though we miss the name PJ's Lager House, the new Lager House did not disappoint. Our friends' put on a live version of their podcast, Crazy for Swayze. Despite a few technical difficulties early on, the staff was helpful working through those and the food was delicious! I had a vegan tempeh po'boy sandwich that was absolutely amazing. CJ, the bartender, did a great job keeping up with everything all night.

All American burger

Was there on firework night and thought it might be a little busier but I missed happy hour so maybe I missed the crowd. My first time. Had the All American burger. It was awesome. I'll put it up against pretty much all the other burgers in the city. Clark recommended the shrimp po boy but I was on a mission for a cheeseburger. I'll be back very soon for the po now.

Great place to see a local concert, cheap beer, and can pour a solid gin and soda. Who could ask for more?

Probably didn't write a review sooner because I never thought it needed it, but I want to really give them their roses. Yes, it is a dive bar. But it is two levels of fantastic. Reasonably priced drinks in a world gone so mad that an old fashioned is $20 nowadays, really good food (try their burgers, very good or their wings, booyah!) and while I should give them 1 star for this, the only bad thing about them is that it's a spot for Arsenal supporters (Go Blues!) LOL. One of the best parts of the bar is that they offer shuttles to the major venues for their events. Why I usually start here before every Lions or Tigers game I go to. Regarding service, the bartenders are usually fun, and I am a fan of all of them. They provide great service even when they are packed. If you go in wanting fun and a good time, you won't be disappointed.

I walked up not sure if it was even open but a haggard looking woman carrying a bunch of shit popped out and carried on down the road. I knew it was open. This is a real great bar. They have a pool table, full bar, and great beer selection. Not a huge selection but a good one. Plus it was a gay bar and I couldn't even tell. But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. I've been here a few times now hoping it would hit different, but it hasn't yet. If you're the owner reading this, I'd just say plan for those post-show rushes. Even one more bartender and a little boost in atmosphere would go a long way. I'll probably still swing back because of the location, but man... I'd love to actually enjoy it next time.

I thought the saloon-type entry doors were a fun touch. I liked the atmosphere, too. The menu is wide-ranging, from breakfast any time to burgers, salads and sandwiches. I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result. We ordered some plain fries to share. Those weren't anything special. All in all, I liked the restaurant and would go back.

Other amenities including a fully operational porcelain sink in the middle of the bar for patrons that need a quick rinse (something that I didn't realize was super convenient. Why has this not been adopted elsewhere?), and a giant metal still of fresh water readily available for thirsty patrons (if you can't get it to shut off, plug it with your finger and ask a regular before you really off the bartender, which is to be expected). A perfectly priced order of a beer with a whisky chaser, along with a can of red wine, and an order of fries was the perfect way to celebrate the occasion. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location. Since then, I've had better experiences with staff, and the food and overall energy of the place continue to shine. Despite that one odd incident, I still highly recommend HopCat for the atmosphere, creative menu, and fresh food. I'll continue coming back and will share more updates (and pics) along the way.
