I didn't like it at all, and we don't plan on coming back! The establishment wasn't crowded at all- just us and we were waiting on one pizza and an order of rib tips, god the rib tips !..they tasted like erasers dipped in ketchup !..which was put together lazily and over priced. 30-45 minutes later..and the girl at the counter acted lazy and spaced out. She acted like we are supposed to serve her..and had an automatic ghetto attitude. Four stars as a sports bar located smack-dab in a college area. The bartenders are young but friendly. The indoor-outdoor feel of the space is amazing during the spring and summer. They recently put a canopy over their side patio, which makes sitting outside even more comfortable. There's always good people watching, especially if you sit facing Cass. Drinks are standard, as are their prices. It's a great place to spend a couple hours in the sun. If you get hungry, there's a sandwich shop next door, but beware, there are no cheap eats to be found, even on their appetizer menu. read more

Well, my journey to this establishment started with a young coworker asking a group of people out for a drink. I obliged out of curiosity to see how the younger part lives. Boy, I wasn't ready. Upon entering the premise, Rihanna's "umbrella" sang through the speakers. It tickled my fancy. Took me to an earlier time. I was ready for the emotions of yesteryear. Until I heard a red faced young lady say, "no cap, this song slaps. My mom loves it." I knew I was in trouble. When gazing around the room, I noticed the wonderful insecurity of college kids trying to fornicate hung in the air. It was like watching a mediocre amateur documentary youtube channel. I was into, but I wasn't like into it, into it. You know? Young love was dancing on the tongue of those whiskied lips. Now I'm at the bar amongst my younger colleagues. As I stood around peering at my surroundings through 37 year old eyes, my baby face bartender came up and pleasantly asked what to drink. He used a lot of hand gestures, which I'm into, so that was tight. After taking the order and delivering the drinks, I heard a young man say "Aw naw, but yeah we for sure are slicin." We slicing.... So In that sentence I immediately paid my bill because I was abruptly reminded I'm out of my element as the old dude. So I paid my bill and made my exit. Gracefully, with an old dude slide that dripped HARD. As I left, I heard the same dude who said the "slicin" comment talking to a young woman at the front door. Pleasantly enough he said "yaw gur I mean this slaps, let's dip." She, with doe eyes, responded "Kay." All in all, yeah. While the sun is up, for sure will go back. First time trying this spot. The ordering was a bit confusing, however once we ordered food came quickly. The food was a little under seasoned, but other than that it was good! I got a sandwich with roast beef Swiss and coleslaw on the side with fries. The coleslaw was not my favorite, but the meat was plentiful. read more

Overall a friendly, light-filled, establishment well suited to Midtown clientele. A summer day with the wind blowing through the open bar doors and good people watching as couples walk down the sidewalk made for a nice break. After the dog park down the street we decided to walk around the block to get a couple crumbs of food and a cold drink. Food was the usual university town Deli-fare, paper and plastic tray. The lightly toasted sub-roll with lettuce, tomato, turkey, mayo based aïoli and avocado smear presented itself quickly. While the bread was a tad misshaped and approaching dry, the accompanying side salad's ranch and cold brew helped the massive bites into my moderately system. My pup sat quietly outside in the patio area and waited for bits of turkey to fall off; he wasn't disappointed. The bar side was surprising busy for a Saturday afternoon. A couple groups coming and going, a pool game, 3 regulars accompanying a muscular terrier nearby the bar patio area. Not a bad vibe, I could see this place filled with college students, a drunk wedding party, and real estate developers all getting drinks on cheaper side. read more

The boyfriend and I were feeling for brunch on a Sunday morning. We intended to stop at another place, but saw that this place offered brunch so we thought we'd check it out. Definitely not disappointed! They have big open doors, very spacious seatings. I had my little pup with me, and they graciously let us sit and eat with him; even brought a bowl of water for him. The chef himself came out to greet us and made sure everything was good. The boyfriend got a breakfast burrito and I got an eggs Benedict. Did not expect it to be this good!! Highly recommend. Nice bar to go to alone for a relaxed weekday evening. They now take credit/ debit cards! Love the classic rock music rotation played - not too loud - nice laid back ambiance. Beer selection was ok if not broad. I ordered a corned beef sandwich served on awesome thick toasted bread - ample amount of meat, but absent any pickle (not sure why?). Have also ordered their buffalo wings which while good were served without the usual celery and blue cheese (perhaps I should have asked?). Setting these details aside the service has been perfect, every time. I enjoyed a nice jazz ensemble here in 2019. And I like that Cobbs remains a spot in eh' 'Midtown' not over-glitzed of high prices, small portions of esoteric foods, and long waits. I WILL for sure be back!! read more

My fiance and I popped in here after another restaurant in the area was too crowded. I really didn't have any expectation but the place looked very inviting with ample parking on the outside. I was pleasantly surprised when we entered on how cozy the place is set smack dab in the middle of Detroit's midtown. That area has become amazingly diverse the other way which is more than fine. I guess I'm a little older and remember when you couldn't see one of my Caucasian brothers from miles in that particular area. So it's refreshing to see how far the area has become. Back to Cobbs: Cozy as hell. Strong drinks. Tasty meals. Bring cash because they don't take credit cards. You could tell the difference in the pricing -- much lower. They are equipped with an ATM though. Good place to stop by for brunch on Sunday or after a ballgame any other day. read more

I really wanted to like this place because the space itself is great. Huge windows that all open up to the street. Cool art. On the corner. But sadly, there were only 4 blah beers on tap and the wait staff seemed unprofessional as if they were walking by and someone asked them to work. Weird. Can't put my finger on it without seeming mean. We wanted just a bite to eat.....we chose something that when it arrived to us, it was not at all what we expected. For one thing, it read that it had cole slaw, yet we never got it and after seeing what we did get....didn't even know why it was offered. That being said, it was very good. To sum this up. This establishment needs more taps for beer, a better wait staff and a menu revision. The space is great and we love to see it flourish. read more

Came in on a rainy football Sunday for a drink but ended up eating breakfast. On Jocelyn's recommendation I ordered Stuffed French toast, bacon and eggs with a rumchata coffee. My eggs were perfectly cooked over medium! The French toast was berry delicious and the bacon was good and meaty. No thin wimpy bacon Yay! Radar came out to fix a tv issue and I found out he's the man in the kitchen. It's a good sign when the staff is friendly regardless of their assignments. It's not fancy or trying to be hip like some of their neighbors. Just easy going food and drinks. Visited for the first in mid December on a Saturday to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were super excited about the prices and selection of food and even look passed the cash only rule. We ordered a round of drinks and they were served, then we placed are food order. As soon as the very pleasant server walked away, the bar tender came over with our drink bill. We put it to the side thinking we would pay it at the end of our meal like most restaurants. When our server came to check in with us, we inquired about the drinks only bill and his answer was I don't even know why you have a separate bill from the food. 5-10 minutes later he came back and explained that because they are cash only, there is a risk of dine and dash. With steam coming out of my ears, I watched every table in that place and never saw that bar tender make another special visit for dine and dash billing. I'm very disappointed. We spent $80 with Cobb and everything was very good. Most people told me we should have left, but I didn't realize what had happened until I handed the server the money. I would love to come back but I don't want me and my friends to be treated as criminals. Someone needs to get it together there. read more

My friend and I stopped by Cobbs for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was a nice spring like day so that means there were a lot of people out. The place was pretty full but we found a couple spots at the bar. The restaurant is set up where you order your food from a counter that is part of the building and the bar is self service. There were a lot of people out that day but I found the service in the bar and the food counter to be great. I had a Pastrami sandwich which was excellent. So many places try to replace the meat with bread. NOT AT COBBS. Yes the sandwich was $12 plus but in the post of Covid what do you expect, White Castle prices everywhere? I look forward to a return visit but I might just skip an urban explorer weekend. read more

Very laid back. It's cash only which is pretty 20th century, but if it helps keep prices low, I'm cool with that. It's got an awesome location and I love the patio. The menu is not too elegant but good enough. The food is good. I liked that the owner went table to table to ask how everyone is doing. That's old school and props to him for doing it. I think it may catch on as a local's bar in time. We have enough OVER PRICED BARS in the neighborhood. The first down economy, they will ALL BE GONE and this place will survive. I would love to give this place 5 stars based on their food and location however they are slacking in the service department a little. I've been here multiple times and it always seems like it's the staffs first day. Food orders come out at random no matter if you ordered before the 6 people ahead of you or not. I ordered lunch while others after me ordered breakfast and they were served first. Lastly they don't take credit which is a huge mistake. Steps from a college campus, but you don't take credit cards? I'm annoyed personally, but more concerned for the business! You're never going to survive in today's economy, today's Detroit, or today's 'Midtown'/Cass Corridor if you can't accept that times have changed. College kids don't carry cash, and won't pay 25% more in fees to go use your 'convenient' in-house ATM. Listen to your customers and get with the times, or you're just going to be another flash-in-the-pan boom-and-busy story. I want SO BADLY for you to succeed and become a landmark (again) but you can't do that without being realistic about your customer base!! read more

The customer service is TERRIBLE. I went to eat here with my daughters at 6 pm before going to the Detroit Tigers Game. I was treated disrespectfully and awfully while here. My 23 year old daughter was getting a beer with me and was questioned for her ID. Once she showed her ID, she was denied. I am so unbelievably upset. I was trying to get drinks with my daughter before the tigers game and my night was ruined. This bar is unclean and the staff is rude. As I sit here at the bar on a sunny Saturday afternoon, breeze flowing through the multiple open ceiling-to-floor open doors, I am disappointed in what might be one of the weirdest dining experiences of my life, as well as not-great food. I sat at the bar, where the first bartender took my drink order almost immediately--awesome. The second bartender came along, and took my order, only to consult the man sitting next to me at the bar about the order. He instructed her on my menu choice-apparently the manager? Then, the cook came out from the kitchen to ask him where the hamburger buns were, and he just walked back there to show him. Someone behind the bar also mentioned how the phones don't work, and he went on to swear multiple times, loudly, sitting next to me, about how he can't even check his voicemails on the phone and they're working on it. This man was sitting next to me drinking and also running the show for the clearly uninformed staff, in an incredibly unprofessional way. Then, my food came out, and it was the most basic burger I have ever had, and I have pretty forgiving food standards. Finally, they are a cash only business and do not provide a check before cashing out. I will not return here and I will not recommend this place, which functions in an arguably prized and historic piece of real estate in the Corridor. read more
