I love the Skip for its extraordinary efforts in decorating for every season. From tiki to Halloween, they do it right. Currently, it's the Black Lagoon through Halloween. We made reservations in a weekend but it wasn't necessary at 5. What I didn't know what this theme is a pop up much like Miracle Bar around Christmas. The mugs are not really made for The Skip and can be found online for less. Most importantly is the drinks are not good. They're not spirit forward, they're full of mixers. Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. Service is attentive and friendly. Not in a rush to return. read more

If you're looking for pure vibes in downtown Detroit, The Skip is the move. This spot is such a fun escape -- colorful, open-air, and full of energy. The music hits, the crowd is always lively, and it just feels like summer no matter what time of year it is. Whether you're stopping by before hitting another spot or making it your main destination for the night, The Skip always delivers. Now let's talk drinks -- because they do not play around. The Long Islands are ON POINT. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Not watered down, not overly sweet -- just right. You definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, and they're dangerously easy to sip. I love the overall vibe here. It's social, upbeat, and perfect for hanging with friends. If you want good music, great drinks, and a guaranteed good time, The Skip should absolutely be on your list. This is one of those places you go once... and then it becomes part of your regular rotation. read more

The Skip is a fun, quaint bar, located in "the belt" area downtown, right across from Mootz pizza! Tropical vibe mixed with their Christmas pop up right now is such a cozy spot for drinks and small bites! It's a popular spot, so be prepared to wait, but the line moved quickly. Despite the busyness, our server was friendly and attentive! Love the lights and decor, and my favorite drink was the Blue Christmas! read more

I had an awesome time at the skip. My cousin took me here while I was visiting for the Christmas holiday. I loved that the entire place was adorned in Christmas decor and all of their menu items had a Christmas theme to them. I hate that I forgot the name of my drink, but it was a pineapple base drink with rum and was extremely delicious. The prices were fair and the service was good. Will return once I'm in Detroit again. read more

Cute cocktail bar with festive holiday pop ups. Stopped here with some coworkers after work for a drink. I got a mocktail and was a little irked that they're the same price as the regular cocktails. Everything was good though and there's great ambiance in the space and service was attentive and friendly. read more

Our just want something to do with friends on a sunny day. It's an inside and outside vibe bar. My favorite drink I always order is called " the little pigeon" it's a must try. Service is okay sometimes fast sometimes slow sometimes nice sometimes a lil attitude but it's still a must go. read more

I went to The Skip in Detroit for an AfroFuture event and had such a good time. The DJ was a vibe and the crowd matched the energy all night. The space felt fun, the music was on point, and the atmosphere made it easy to just enjoy and connect. Definitely a spot I'd go back to. read more

Excellent cocktails! Fun bar in a festive alley. I have attended two holiday pop ups here. I came for Halloween and I just went to the Christmas pop up. Both were fantastic! Really great decor, top tier mixologists, and fun ambience. Great music, and everyone who works here is very kind. I definitely recommend coming here to enjoy the Christmas festivities this holiday season. read more

Wow, I can count the times I've hung out at places in alleys. It's such a rare sight in the cities I've been to... and in some cases, it's weird! But at the same time, it's really cool, especially when the weather is nice. And cool lights and wall art are posted up to make the alley feel really welcoming, and I love that. The Skip itself has major Tiki / beach vibes, and it was recommended to me by multiple people when I said I was traveling to Detroit for a work trip. Staff were friendly, music was on point, and sitting on one of the spacious benches outside was just so relaxing! It was on my last evening in town, and I most definitely enjoyed every moment there. Anyone who's around during the warmer days should definitely drop by. I get a feeling it's unbearable on weekends, though. Come during the week if you can :). read more

The skip is a nice outdoor/indoor bar. You can walk up and sit outside or go inside to sit down. They served frozen drinks, specialty cocktails, shots and a long list of beer and wine. I had got the frozen cucumber margarita which was very good and very strong. The cucumber flavor was very subtle at the end. My cousin got a watermelon frose, which was very fruity and strong. The bartenders were very helpful and very fast with the service. 10/10 Definitely coming again read more

Not worn the wait. Small and drinks not good. Excited for holiday scene but disappointed. No bathrooms

The Skip is one of my favorite places to grab a few drinks in downtown Detroit when I'm coming in town for an event! They have a wonderful drink menu (although not always updated online) that embody a tropical element. Service is always friendly and efficient - as you order at the bar and then find a seat. In the summertime, you can also order from their bar in the alleyway and drink along there. The most recent time I was there, I ordered a Little Pidgeon - a play on a Paloma and then a frozen cocktail (pictured). Great spot to bring a few friends before a show or concert or if you're waiting for your dinner reservations to be ready nearby! read more

First time here for the Tiki themed Christmas. I love tiki drinks and theirs was very well made. These were strong. You can buy the glassware but recommend that you go early in the season for the best selection. We went a couple days before Christmas and some were sold out. The prices are fair and found some on eBay selling for twice the price. Not so much big on food so plan to eat before or after read more

It was an okay tiki vibe..... was looking for vintage and old school, but the uh collection was cool

The Skip is a trendy cocktail bar in The Belt with indoor/outdoor seating, eclectic decor, and great people watching. There were two walk up spots to order drinks from as well as a hot dog stand. It made for a popular wedding party pre-game destination. I enjoyed a Little Pigeon cocktail - Blanco Tequila, Grapefruit Cordial, Lime, Carbonated Coconut Water, and Grapefruit Bitters. My friend ordered the frozen Irish Coffee and while I'm not usually much for dessert drinks, it was absolutely delicious! If returning to the area, I would visit The Skip again. read more

Cute little spot. I was there for a happy hour, which was super busy. It took a while to get drinks, which seemed to be overpriced but oh well. Loved the spacious outdoor area and the tiki bar/beach them they have going. It was tricky to find and no one around seemed to know where it was lol. read more

Their frozen cocktails are to die for. The daiquiri is so flavorful and the Irish coffee is essentially a destination drink. The staff are consistently friendly and creative. You really feel welcomed and like they're having a good time. That intimacy-even when they're deservedly busy-is what keeps you enthusiastic about coming back. Big issue is the music and its contribution to the ambiance. Very non-descript and undefinable, and variably too loud or not present. read more

The Skip bar is located on the Belt, a perfect walkable location with options to go clubbing or grab pizza or even go to an art gallery, whichever you're feeling. I love having a Tiki Bar in the cold Detroit days, where they even bring the holiday fare in the summer time. The bar is quite small, but I have never had any issues grabbing seating for a group of 3-6. The drinks are so fun and change staying up to date with some pop culture references - even including a White Lotus (TV Show) drink on their menu. The bartenders are great and you have to order at the bar, it I have had experiences where there is a wait staff - I think it just depends on the day. Cocktails are a decent price and a lot of fun, try to hit The Skip if you just want a quick drink with great vibes. read more

The Skip is summertime perfection, definitely in the top 5 Detroit bars if you're visiting the city. Located in the belt, you have beautiful alley views, string lights, tropical vibes, and delicious frozen cocktails... what more could you want?! Their best drinks are both frozen...the French 75 (fresh, sweet, and a hint of tart), and the Irish Coffee (tastes like a boozy whiskey chocolate milkshake). SO SO good, you absolutely must order them. Grab a picnic table here with a few friends (not more than 6, space is limited!) and plan on spending plenty of time here! read more

3 Stars for a fab drink menu and a LOVELY space (decorated to the T) with a server who was kind of over it... I was able to check out The Skip while they were decked out for their Miracle pop-up and LOVED the merging of tiki/christmas decor. The space is pretty great- right off of an alley and boasting kickass garage doors that, I imagine, are open during the warmer months. Besides the decor, the drink menu looked legit and the bar was stocked with some really great bottles. Though I played it super safe with an Aperol Spritz (#basic), I got to taste a few other concoctions and can tell this place knows their cocktails! The one downside was we had a grumpy/annoyed server who seemed over it and definitely in no mood to be friendly. It was our first time there, so we may have had a few questions, but to me, the key to a great cocktail bar isn't just the drinks (though those have to be on point), but also the absence of pretentiousness/annoyance at non-regulars or outsiders that is an unfortunate stereotype/caricature of hip cocktail bars. When we asked if the heaters could be turned down a bit (I'm a FL girl and my head was on FIRE) a polite "naw, we aren't able to do that unfortunately" would have been appreciated versus the annoyed "no" we got. Overall, a great spot for drinks on a super cold night, just a bummer about the service since we would've stayed longer and had more drinks had we not felt like an inconvenience... read more

I'm always excited about a Christmas bar and this one was no exception. Decked out completely in Christmas lights, this usual-tiki bar brought a festive vibe to our evening. The place was small, dim and located off an alleyway. They offered a lot of tropical tiki cocktails, but we opted for vodka sodas for a less sweet option. They were great and service was quick, although our server rolled her eyes at us when we walked in (group of six but there was plenty of room). If you're looking for a bathroom, know that it's located across the alleyway -- insider tip. Overall, drinks were good, the vibe was festive, and it was a great spot for our celebratory hang out! read more

The skip is a small island feel bar down the same alley as Standby and Deluxx Fluxx too. They have a patio feel in the bar area, a large bar to the right. It's a small and cozy spot. Wagyu beef hotdog alley street food. Need I say more? Such a cool alley spot concept that I wish I'd see more of. This garage/warehouse/cinder block space has been totally transformed into an electric Oasis with tiki cocktails and street food. Some tables under cover and some are out in the elements. The food seems a little slow to get up and running at the bar's opening time (25 min for chips and cold salsa) but it eventually came. They're on island time y'all. read more

We love The Skip, especially around the holiday when the Sippin' Santa Pop-Up transforms the place into a festive, holiday wonderland. It is a December tradition for us to visit at least once during the month. Obviously, this couldn't happen this year. Fortunately, The Skip offered their holiday cocktails and glassware to go, so we were able to recreate our tradition at home. Ordering was easy online and the staff was very accommodating with a delivery request. We ordered the Sippin' Santa, Parrot in a Pear Tree and Runaway Sleigh. The drinks were as delicious and strong as ever! I love that they came with their special garnishes so having them at home felt special. No, it wasn't exactly like being there, but it was fun and we look forward to the day when we can visit in person once again! read more

This place has a nice stiff drinks, one of my go to's while in Detroit. The ambience is amazing. The bartenders need to get their crap together, they seem to not even care about how quick they make drinks. They should do limited time seating, due to the size of the venue. It seems almost impossible to get a seat at this spot since "Covid." The Belt is a great place to come for food, cocktails, arcade, bowling, date night, or any night! read more

This was finally my first time here! Expect a wait on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday night. We were a group of 6 so we did end up waiting about 20 minutes; however, we ended up having the large group in front of us not want a partial standing bar table so we got in faster than if we had waited for a full sit-down table. The decor for Christmas was fun!! I love the beach bum berry (tiki version of miracle bar) decor and vibes. The drinks were very good and their alternative for one of the drinks being sold out was a phenomenal frozen Irish coffee which I think is something they often offer? We went the weekend of Christmas on a Thursday night, I don't know how busy other Thursdays normally are... Bartenders were FAST, waitstaff was friendly and decently quick too. Overall, finally made it here and can't wait to come again, especially when it gets warmer. read more

This is cool little bar right in the Belt alley. You can order from the walk up bar and take to go (in the alley) or you can walk around to the side and sit down at the bar for a drink. They had a decent selection of drinks and cocktails. Even had a few ciders (in cans) for me to choose from as well. I definitely give it 5 stars for the atmosphere the alley brings. Finally managed to grab a drink at this place, which is always packed on weekend nights. My wife and I shared two cocktails: the Little Pigeon, which is essentially a Paloma with coconut water, and the Brazil vs. Mexico, which has cachaca and mezcal. Both were delicious, but the Brazil vs. Mexico was incredible and beautifully presented with a flower -- you should try it! The chaotic way in which they serve drinks is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars, as it can take a while and people are always bumping into you. But the drinks are bomb and I'll be back. read more

The Skip is a really cute, casual bar that's great for groups. We stumbled on it when we were looking for another bar, but we're glad we stopped in! It's a cool little alley with a bunch of other bars, and there are cute lights set up all along the alley. The bar is half outdoors and open-air, so dress appropriately. We got there around 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, and there was a good sized crowd already. When the Tigers game got out, the place became packed with all the Tigers fans! It was actually too packed for my taste at that point, so we left for a different bar. The crowd also got a lot younger as the game got out, and there were a lot of people in their younger 20's there. They have a pretty big beer selection, and they have slushy machines with a lot of cool, interesting flavors! I didn't get to try the alcoholic slushies, but they looked pretty good. They also had a food cart to the side. We had just come from dinner, so we didn't get any of the food but it did smell delicious. Overall, this is a great, casual place to come for a beer. Just know that it gets pretty crowded with a rather young crowd on the weekends. If that's what you're looking for, then definitely check it out. read more

IRISH COFFEES (old forester 100, intelligentsia cold brew, cream, sugar, cocoa)!! The first time I had these frozen, caffeinated delights were in NOLA (Check out Erin Rose). The Skip's version is noticeably boozier, IMO. Also, I don't know if it was in my head but the fact that it was Intelligentsia cold brew made me feel like it was more premium and worth the $9 for the small cup. The boba straws also made me laugh a little. My favorite frozen beverage was the French 75 though. It has bombay sapphire, lemon, sugar, cava. It's very refreshing, light and the cava adds slight, fizzy mouthfeel! It was TORTURE that they were cooking food right next to the bar line. If I hadn't had dinner right before, I would've gotten something. All sounded/look delicious. The Skip's alley space is pretty cool, unique too.
