Cafe ML offers a nice variety of unique dishes. Recently came here for dinner and enjoyed the Short Rib Steamed Buns as an app. They were flavorful and came out nice and hot . I ordered the Mahi Mahi special of the night . It came with a jasmine lime rice, black bean purée and pineapple salsa. All the flavors blended well together . My gf got the Ml Burger which I had a bite of and it was juicy and perfectly cooked. I'm not much of a dessert guy but the Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse Pie is UNREAL. Decided to get carry out from Cafe ML yesterday. We ordered the ML burger, short rib steamed buns and Korean fried chicken. Was really happy with the burger it was cooked perfectly medium and very tasty. The short rib buns were also really flavorful and liked the kimchi on top. Was a little disappointed by the Korean fried chicken which ended up being chicken tenders with a side of sauce. However the sauce was pretty good but thought I was going to get something better than your average chicken tender. That's the only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars. The atmosphere inside was really cool, I wish I was actually dining in rather than getting a carryout but I'll be back. read more

Super disappointing experience here. We arrived early at like 5:15pm and were seated promptly as it was not busy. You'd think since it wasn't busy our service would be amazing but our server was MIA most of the evening and it took hours to get out of there. Both my friend and I did not like our dinners and barely ate anything. The server of course did not check in or notice we had barely touched the food. My friend had the street noodles and there were literally 5 noodles on the whole plate, it was basically a plate of bok choy. She said the flavors were off and tasted more like curry. I had the Walleye and it was not good at all. It came with no sides, just a few grape tomatoes and artichokes. The fish was overcooked and very dry. I was super disappointed by this since I asked the server what she recommended between the Walleye and the Salmon. If that was the best of the two, I'm scared for what the salmon is. Nothing about this experience would make me come back. I came home and had to make food because I was so hungry! read more

Food - I'm not sure I really liked it, I had the maple glazed chicken. Sure, it was different, but there wasn't anything to rave over and the waitress said it is a top seller for them. I forget what my wife had but she didn't like it at all. Service- the waitress was prompt, the food was prompt, and she was attentive and nice. Ambiance - weird, I felt like there were regulars staring us down. I liked the booths, the bar, the general feel; just something about the place felt like it was some guy's unfinished project or something where there wasn't a real care for this business. Nice little spot on Maple and Lahser. You might drive right past it if you're not looking for it. But the food was delicious. The salmon as cooked to perfection and the Brussel sprouts appetizer was very very tasty, lots of flavor. Who knew Brussel sprouts could taste so good. Great food, service is great, atmosphere is lively. We go at least 2-3x a month. Close to where we live it's become a staple. Love the Brussel sprouts and Korean fried chicken apps. Always get the edamame for the kids. I usually get one of the Asian rice bowls or the burger, can't go wrong. Fries are always amazing too. This is one of those cutesy local restaurants that intrigues you while driving by. I remember this place from driving around in the summer because they have a great patio with lights. Really cute! Cafe ML is a great local spot with a trendy menu and a full bar. The guacamole appetizer is amazing, chips were warm and perfectly salted, and the guacamole had just enough lime and tasted oh so fresh! My dinner was the flat iron steak salad. The steak was placed on the plate and not on the lettuce, which is mixed greens. The dressing mixed very will with the avocados and cotija cheese. The steak was incredible...so juicy, tender and bursting with flavor! Dessert was the ricotta cheesecake. This week they had Michigan blueberry sauce/compote. It varies based on the season. My only complaint is the menu - not for picky eaters! They need to add a few more basic dishes. Great ambiance and decor, and they have a good amount of daily specials. First, the service was good, just slow. The food was the worst meal we've had at Cafe ML. For a starter we had the ahi tuna. It was 90% avocado and that's being generous. I know to not order the pad Thai here but wanted to try the kung pau chicken. There were 3 tiny and I mean tiny nuggets of chicken and about 3 peppers slightly chopped up. It would have broken a pepper eating record if I had finished the bowl of peppers. The salad my wife had was a bunch of plain lettuce throw in a bowl with some salmon and had no flavor. I'm still a big fan of ML's menu and the service was outstanding, again! They sat us by the kitchen in front of the windowed partition. I loved being able to watch the kitchen staff do their thing. I also appreciated that they keep the windows looking into the kitchen really clean! We ordered drinks, a few apps and our entrees. They still make a pretty solid Manhattan and offered me both, bourbon soaked cherries, or the standard Maraschino...opt for the former if you get the chance....Bourbon soaked is the way to go. For the apps, we tried the Tuna Poke, the Korean Fried Chicken and the Brussel's sprouts. Each of them was fantastic. My girl and I tried the vegetarian lentil soup too...very nice. For an entrée I ordered their red meat special...strip steak with a twice baked potato, and she had the Singapore Street Noodles. I cleaned my plate completely. The noodles, unfortuantely didn't wow us but I worked on what she didn't finish all the same. The shrimp was good but the flavor was a little subtle from what we expected. They tasted OK but they didn't stand out. Service was flawless. Bussers cleared plates almost immediately when we were done with them, and our server was personable, knowledgeable and took great care of us. A swanky-looking place with plenty of parking, my friend and I were looking forward to a weeknight dinner here. I brought my young daughter, Evelyn, and they had a high chair for her. The service was fine, and I liked that they had a kid's menu as well. I had the pad thai with tofu, which unfortunately was rather sweet and had no spice at all, and had soggy lettuce in it. My friend got the Singapore noodle dish which she also wasn't crazy about. We did like the baked feta appetizer though, and my daughter loved her penne pasta with marinara. Overall though, a bit of a bust on the entrees. There was also no changing table in the restroom, so I had to use a mat from our diaper bag and lay it on the floor in the handicap stall to change her there. I'd give this place another try but maybe stick to a burger. read more

We wanted a good burger for dinner and we got a great burger at Cafe ML. Our server, Todd, was friendly and attentive. We started off by sharing the Korean chicken appetizer. It was delicious! The cucumbers were a great addition to cool the heat from the spices on the chicken. As I said, the burger was outstanding - well worth the visit. The fries were crispy and abundant. Neither of us finished them. I grumpy bartender, one great one. Luckily, the better one took us over. If you're just basic hungry, consider splitting a meal. Portions are large. We could have but didn't know. The turkey netballs and spaghetti squash was great. More than enough for 2 if you get an appetizer. We got the guacamole and chips. The Pad Thai was good but not a 5/5. Maybe 3.5. I have been to ML at least 5 times recently and I have to say their food is absolutely amazing. I personally am drawn to there amazing cheese burgers they are absolutely worth it. I was on a date, with my friends who are dating and we were on our way to Secret Cinema. We decided that we wanted to eat together prior and so we set off to find a place not too far away from our final destination. Cafe ML was one of the first places to POP up on my Yelp and I never deny myself the indulgence of new, pretty highly ranked restaurant. ESPECIALLY, if it's away from A2. I'm always down for something new! One of the first things upon walking in that had intrigued me about this place was the ambiance. It was romantically dim, and the music was pretty enjoyable. The three of us did not have a reservation, but they were kind and immediately found us a nice table in their addendum portion of the restaurant, outfitted with heaters above. One of the first comments, one of my friends made was how cold she was, because the heating was only to be found above the table, but not below it. We began the evening with an app to share, three people who weren't exactly ravenous, we decided that one appetizer would do. The Smashed Guacamole was chosen, and we really enjoyed it and looked somewhat forward to the meals. One of my friends got the Veggie Burger, the other chose the Shaved Brussel Sprouts and Red Quinoa Salad and I had decided on the Kung Pao Bowl. 2 out of the 3 of us were not impressed. When describing the Veggie Burger my friend managed to comment with a meh, and as for me there was hardly any flavor and definitely nothing special about the meal. Our friend who had the salad however, was quite happy with the choice that she made. It was first time at the restaurant and I imagine, that perhaps I didn't order quite the right thing. I am even wiling to give it another chance, after all the GUAC was definitely not bad at all, but it'll be some time before I return as I don't really frequent the area too often. read more

The new addition to the local food scene is ML. It's taking on the common elements of recently open places with local ingredients and sustainable meats and seafoods. Those of us interested in those attractions and finding more and more of these restaurants and chefs paying attention to it. Inside you'll find a nice modern decor, with a patio that may redefine other patios someday, I hope. Their outdoor seating has the intimacy and fresh air you seek while being separated from the foot and car traffic that is literally on the other side of the planted shrubs. They have executed a beautiful patio where you are almost in the parking lot without knowing it. Onto what I really came here for, the food. Starting with the Korean Fried Chicken with cucumbers. I'm a sucker for Asian food and particularly Korean flavors. These boneless chicken strips encase the flavors a traditional Korean BBQ. The sauce is familiar to one while find on other Korean BBQ flavors and then have the crunch from the fried batter. It's a yummy start. I am tempted to three orders of these to make it my entree. In the spirit of trying other dishes and not just eat that chicken, I moved onto the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa and Black Bean Quinoa. I'm not sure if you'll leave anything on this plate except for the banana leaf maybe. The fish is perfectly cooked, soft, tender, and juicy. The mango salsa and pickled vegetables on top give it a nice pop and sweet versus tangy. I would have wished the fish to be seasoned a bit more, it took on a slight fishy flavor. In one way I appreciate it since you want to taste the fish, but a bit more seasoning would heighten it. The compliment of the black bean quinoa is a good matchup. The fish being very juicy and the quinoa being slightly on the dryer side helps to soak up any juices that drip out. I promise you will not leave anything on the plate when you order the Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse Pie. I may have licked the plate when no one was looking. I'm sure I'm on their security cameras doing the dirty deed. This was about sharp rich flavors in contrast to texture. The richness of the chocolate and the peanut butter mousse was just delicious in combination. It's the texture here that will also make you say mmmm. The harder chocolate on top that you will find yourself snapping through with the creaminess of the mousse now makes me say mmmmm. Are all their desserts this good? I was really looking forward to checking out Cafe ML, since we are fans of Richards Group establishments. We came on a Sunday night around 6pm, and the place was already pretty packed, especially the patio. Even though it was busy, we managed to get a table for 3 right away. Our table had a nice view of the bar and the main seating area. They divide the space up with some table/bench seating and then high top bench seating; very unique and it balances out the rectangular shape of the restaurant. The general color scheme is slate gray with a baby blue, so it is pleasing and relaxing to the eyes. Glass panels separate the spaces, and keep the floorplan open and airy. Overall, nice decor. If you're used to dining at any of the other Richards Group establishments, Cafe ML will strike you as something different. Still the refined and sophisticated offerings, but the flavors err more on the Asian side. They utilize a lot of ingredients that are prominent in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine, but the application is still modern and contemporary. I like that. Our table went with a mixture of small plates and a few entrees. For the small plates, we chose the Korean Fried Chicken ($8), and the Mussels ($10). For entrees, we chose the fish special of the day, Barramundi ($31) and the ML Burger ($15). Our friend had the Maine Lobster Risotto ($25). I'd have to say that out of all the offerings, the strongest ones were definitely the entrees. The Barramundi was served with spring vegetables and fingerling potatoes, and had a nice smoky flavor with coriander undertones. Though a white fish, the barramundi had great moisture and was seasoned perfectly. The sear on top was done well, which locked in the moisture of the fish as you cut into it. ML Burger was flavorful and moist. The truffle aioli and cheese really made the burger sing, and for the price, the size of the burger was just right. Fries were good too, and though twice fried, not heavy or oily. I had a sample of the lobster risotto and it was a bit on the rich and heavy side for a small bite, but great amount of lobster. Our small plates were pretty disappointing to say the least. The Korean fried chicken contained a measly 3 strips, with nice cucumber slices to offset the gochujang spice. However, for $8 I felt a bit ripped off, and they weren't even that big individually. The mussels were also a disappointment, as they tasted rubbery and not soft and plump. The green matcha, lemongrass, coconut milk sauce sounded great to the eyes, but to the mouth, it just didn't work harmoniously. Portion size was also pretty small for the price. We've had much better and bigger portions for the same price at other places. Service was good, polite, but nothing out of the ordinary. Final bill for everything was $106 (including a stout drink). The prices for entrees were well deserved, but the small plates? Not so much. As much as I'd love to see another new Richards Group restaurant succeed, we probably won't be coming here on regular rotations. BHG still reigns supreme! read more

This place was just OK in my opinion. I came with a group of 12 and we were seated against the far left (where the windows open up- like a patio area) and it was absolutely freezing! Then they'd put the heaters on and we'd be sweating lol. Overall area was horrible; I felt like a menopausal lady experience hot flashes. Food: the Brussel sprouts were absolutely UNREAL! Probably the best I've ever eaten anywhere. I had the street noodles that were just OK and the napa salad that was really good. The food came out at very different times which was unfortunate. Some people got their dinners 10-15 mins after others. Food is okay, atmosphere (as long as you're not in the patio) is nice but it's not necessarily somewhere I'd run back to. read more

I have been to Cafe ML on several occasions, but this most recent time "did me in" and I decided ~ I must tell people about this place. Every time I come the food is superb. I haven't had the same thing twice and have enjoyed every single thing! My hands down favorites are the beef carpaccio and brussel sprouts. The beef carpaccio is "deconstructed" and is served with a 4 min egg (I had to ask what that meant: it is boiled for 4 mins and then thrown into freezing water to shock the system. Essentially the white part is cooked and yellow is runny.) and it is the best carpaccio we have ever had, capers are mixed in to the beef. Essentially it's amazing. The brussel sprouts are made in a sirracha lime sauce and are bursting with flavor ~ yes I just said 'bursting with flavor' about a brussel sprouts dish, even my husband enjoyed them and he hates brussel sprouts!! I have also had: the smash guac (fair representation of guac but nothing to write home about); noodles dish (similar to a pad Thai dish, very delicious and enough to split); mussels (have recently changed their recipe for these I think? Either way very good, unique sauce they are served in. Very flavorful but I couldn't put my finger down on what it was ~ more garlic in this dish would make it even better); ML burger (very very good ~ but I'm partial to truffle oil so this burger didn't have a chance to not impress me). Finally, this place is priced right. You can spend as much, or as little, as you want. My husband and I walked out of there most recently for $71. That was ordering the beef carpaccio, mussels, side of brussel sprouts, splitting the ML burger, 1 cocktail for me and 2 beers for him. read more

Great ambiance. Very laid back, cozy, upscale feel. Had dinner here with my girlfriends this last Saturday. Waited about a half hour for a table, which wasn't bad. Wish they had more room near the front door to stand while waiting to be seated. The drinks were great. My sister had the Cafe Cosmo, delicious. We had both the hummus and guacamole for an appetizer, both were very good. All of our meals were outstanding. I had the salmon sushi roll on special with the fish tacos. Wow! The sushi was so fresh and the tacos were amazing. Everyone at the table was happy with their choices. The service was great. I will absolutely be going back here again and again! read more
