This was our second date night at D'Amato's. The service was excellent. I'm pretty sure we had the same waitress last time, and she was great at checking in on us and making sure our glasses were full. The atmosphere of D'Amato's is nice. It's great for a casual date or a nice meal with friends. We started with the bread board which was alright. I think they described the bread as focaccia, so I was expecting a bread with more of a crunchy crust and the classic dimples on top. However, this bread was fluffy and soft, but it was still very good. I'm not sure if I would get it again since it felt like a bread board I could put together at home. I preferred the bruschetta we got last time. For my entree, I went with the chicken parm which was very good. The chicken was coated well and the sauce was delicious. Overall, this is a great spot for Italian food in Royal Oak, and we'll be back for future date nights. read more

We visited D'Amato's Restaurant on Saturday, January 3rd at 7:00 PM, and unfortunately the experience was largely disappointing. Our waitress, Yvette, was the highlight of the evening. She was kind, attentive, and professional throughout the meal. Sadly, her service was the only truly positive part of our visit. For my entrée, I ordered the gnocchi with Palameno sauce. The gnocchi itself tasted fresh and was well made; however, the sauce was overwhelmingly garlicky--so much so that it nearly made my eyes water. There was no real depth of flavor beyond the garlic, which made the dish unbalanced and unpleasant. My husband ordered the homemade ravioli stuffed with portobello mushrooms, which was genuinely good and the best dish we had that night. That said, both entrées arrived completely on their own--no sides, no garnish, and not even freshly shaved or grated parmesan offered at the table. We were surprised to learn that everything was à la carte, yet this was not clearly outlined anywhere. Even basic side salads cost $6 for very small portions, and the entrée portions themselves were quite small for the price. We also ordered the $8 bread board, which was honestly baffling. The bread was cold instead of warm and served with low-quality oil, vinegar, and very subpar parmesan (comparable to grocery-store brand), all placed in tiny separate cups with no herbs, seasoning, or explanation. It wasn't mixed or presented in a way that made sense--frankly, we weren't sure what we were supposed to do with it. The calamari appetizer tasted good, but the portion was so small it wasn't shareable, which defeats the purpose of an appetizer. The drinks were awful. My husband's soda tasted flat, and we wondered if the soda gun was dirty. There was virtually no liquor in either cocktail--mine tasted watered down and unpleasant, almost like river water. To make matters worse, the limes were dry and visibly brown. Overall, the entire experience was a 3 out of 10, and that rating is solely due to the excellent service provided by our waitress, Yvette. Unfortunately, between the underwhelming food, confusing and poorly communicated à la carte pricing, very small portions, subpar drinks, and lack of value for the cost, this restaurant did not meet even basic expectations. We will not be returning and cannot recommend D'Amato's to others s this restaurant's food was NOT elevated. For the prices charged, fine-dining restaurants should expect far better quality, execution, and overall dining experience. Found this place just walking past. It has a dim lighting, cozy ambience, and friendly staff from the moment we walked in. The food was good overall. I had the zucchini noodles with meatballs, and the meatballs were definitely the highlight; it was tender, flavorful, and delicious. The zucchini noodles could've used a bit more seasoning, though. We also tried the herb-crested chicken with Alfredo Fettuccine. It had a rich, creamy flavor, maybe a little too rich for my taste, but still enjoyable. The wine was nice, though I wish it came in a thinner glass, the thick glass made it a little hard to appreciate. Our server did mix up my order at first but corrected it quickly. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if he'd let us keep the mistake since it was his error, but the food came out hot and fast, which I appreciated. Our waitress was very sweet. We started our meal with the steak bites as our appetizer. The flavor and quality were great, just a tiny bit salty. I would recommend it, though! The rigatoni brisket bolognese "Sunday Gravy" was wonderful - the meat was very tender. The margherita pizza was nothing special. I recommend you stick with the pasta or entree dishes; you can get better pizza elsewhere. The cocktails and wine were good as well. The live jazz was secluded in another room, and they had other music in the speakers at the same time, which kind of ruined the vibe. This is the place my parents got married. I remember being a kid scarfing down the garlic butter and meatballs, so good. Obviously I felt quite emotional walking in here last month with my girlfriend, which is her first time. She got a Fettuccine Alfredo, which was as creamy as I remembered. The margarita, although it doesn't blow me away, I keep eating. Never give up. Really nice Italian/all around food restaurant. It's attached to a nice little bar as well with live music and not too far away from one of the main parking garage. We try and find a new restaurant to go to as often as possible and for this trip we landed on D'Amato's. Online it seemed like a pretty classy place. As we were walking up it seemed like the type of dress-ware didn't really matter but it wasn't an issue to us, as we like to dress up a bit fancy to go somewhere we think is nice. We were seated and it took quite some time to be greeted. It was date night so we weren't too bothered by it at first. We put in a salad and soup order and for a bottle of wine. They had a pretty good selection of wine. Appetizers came out (sadly no bread & oil which seemed odd for a place like this) and they were very tasty! Exactly how I wanted the Italian Wedding Soup! Our entrees took close to an hour to come out which was a bit of a bummer. We had a bottle of wine but were really hungry when we arrived at around 7pm. Luckily we had no plans after but the restaurant wasn't very full so we were surprised by how long it took to get our food. Overall a really good place! Would definitely come back! read more

When my friend invited me to try a new brunch spot. I was excited to try it. This tuck off Italian restaurant by night but brunch on Saturday and Sunday was right up my alley. I had an enjoyable meal here with a group of 8 for a bday dinner. Our waitress was helpful and patient with all of us, checking in frequently as we chatted and decided what we wanted to eat and drink. She brought things out in a timely manner. I got the brisket bolognese and so did my boyfriend. It was a large serving and we could have split it. It was delicious. Two people didn't like their meal - a brisket over orzo - they both thought it was weird tasting and too sweet. The waitress offered a new meal, one accepted, one didn't. Good for the waitress for offering. A couple of pet peeves. Salads are extra, bread is extra. So you want some greens with your meal it's an extra $5 on top of a $20-30 entree. Bread was $8. That makes things get expensive quick. The cheapest wine was $10 I think, I got a $12 glass. So $22 entree, $5 salad, $12 glass of wine, ouch - $39 for a single person for a night out with siblings before tip. Not someplace I'd just pop in to for a weeknight dinner at those prices. The bathroom was pretty disgusting too, it was clear no maintenance had been done in a while. The restaurant only had a few tables full, so it was baffling why the bathroom was so dirty. Time to update this review! I hadn't been here in about 10 years but I came here today with friends for Royal Oak Restaurant Week. This review is probably like a 3.5 out of five but I'll round up to four. I had scoped out the menu ahead of time, originally I was going to get the Italian wedding soup, goat cheese ravioli, and the tiramisu, off the RORW menu. I ultimately ended up going with chicken piccata, as I have had ravioli a lot this week. The Italian wedding soup was kind of dark, darker than I was expecting in color, but it was very good. The chicken parmesan came with a huge portion, and it was probably the best part of the meal; The chicken and the cheese were great, the spaghetti was kind of generic but also good. For dessert, we had the tiramisu, and unfortunately I thought it was just okay, even though the presentation was great. They also tacked on a 90-cent credit card fee at the end, which I think is kind of tacky. I would prefer they just roll that into their regular prices. Waitservice was inconsistent, we got water refills fairly quickly because someone else was doing them, and our waitress was friendly, but sometimes we had to wait a long time for her to come back to the table. The side of sourdough toast was a nice touch. I ordered a grapefruit Bellini to start and it was so good. After my meal I ordered an expresso martini! One of my favorite drinks! Ordered a pep pizza for the kid, the honey brisket entree per Restaurant week (June 2-9 of 2024), Chicken Parm. If you come here I don't think the restaurant week was worth it. I say that because the soup we got was small, very salty, lacked content, and was very sub par. The tiramisu was a tad too sweet and nothing special. However - the brisket which is usually at least 25$, was worth it. It was unique, slightly sweet, with crispy onions, well plated, and came with a good amount of what I think is orzo. It was 8oz brisket and each bite was so flavorful. The chicken parm was just average. I enjoyed the thin al-dente noodles with marinara sauce. The chicken was cooked well with two pieces of parmesean slices on top which to me did not add to the chicken. This is just your average chicken parm in my opinion. However if you do get their pastas or chicken parm I recommend subbing the marinara for Mrs. Ps sauce. It was decadent with wine and heavy cream. It was a mix between white and red and it was so rich and so good. I got it on the side my pasta. The pizza was good and above average. Large slices of pepperoni. Crust was thin. However it was a bit too greasy and a bit too salty for me and I can't imagine that much salt for a kid, or grease. But it tasted good at least and my kid enjoyed it. read more

I have eaten here for dinner a few times and that is great, but this is my first time trying for brunch. We went on a Sunday around 11am and were seated immediately. There was some live music which sounded lovely, not too loud. Service was quick. The brunch menu looked really good and had a lot of savory options which I appreciated! I got the spinach and feta omelet which came with breakfast potato's and toast. I added the side of sausage. Great portion and really tasty. My partner got the avocado bruschetta and added eggs which was also delicious. He also got a Spanish coffee, which was yummy. I will have to come back for brunch more often! read more

This is one of the best places to get Italian in the royal oak area. Yes pastai exists, but it's overpriced and doesn't feel like it's made with care and is overpriced. D'Amatos has a dim lit family and traditional feel to it that just makes you feel welcomed. Everything is fairly priced for the area and even in general. Definitely recommend a reservation to be made and is a great spot to grab drinks (great wine pours always) and a filling Italian dinner. The location was ideal, and the staff provided amazing, attentive service while being incredibly accommodating to our large group. Ambience is average, the service was average, however, I will say that my chicken Parm breading was very flavorful, I was surprised! But the Italian elements of the food like the truffle oil on the fries and the red sauce with the chicken Parm was just very average. I walked in with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and they were all booked for regular seating, but we were able to get some seats at the bar. We walked here, but if you're driving, there is a surface pay lot right in front of the restaurant, or you can park in the public garages nearby for the first 2 hours. The service staff was very friendly and seemed to work well with one another, and our server even remembered to wish a customer getting take out "Happy Birthday!" Ambiance was great; dimly lit and low key. While items on the menu were not labeled as gluten free, our server offered the following options that are or could be made gluten free: Brussels Sprouts Sausage and Peppers Soups (without pasta) Salads (without croutons) Zucchini Noodles Blackened Salmon NY Strip Steak Filet Mignon We got the Brussels Sprouts to share and they were delicious, very intentionally made and seasoned. I got the Zucchini Noodles with marinara sauce and added Italian sausage, which was very good. They tossed the noodles in with the sauce, which made them more cohesive with the dish rather than just being an afterthought of a dietary restriction modification, which I really appreciated. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Caesar salad and Winter Special Bolognese pasta. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of service and food we received. We'll definitely be back! read more

Wow! Saying we loved D'Amato's brunch is an understatement. I went here with my significant other's family and we were 6/6 on impressed. We started with a round of donuts, they were fresh and homemade. I got the biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were warm and buttery. Melt in your mouth style. I personally liked the sausage but it is a maple style sausage which not everyone enjoys. The potatoes were perfectly crispy. I tried the chicken and waffles benedict. I am normally not a huge fan but I thought it was very tasty. We got a $4 Bellini that was delicious. The price was reasonable, we got out for under $200 for 6 people. 6 entrees, 5 drinks, and 2 appetizers! Also our waitress was very attentive and got everything right. I have always had great experiences here for brunch but had not yet been in for dinner. Well, I finally did dinner, and don't know why it took so long. Marvin, our waiter, was super friendly and attentive. The food from appetizer to dessert was spectacular. There was always someone coming around to fill our water and clear plates. Highly recommend! Held my daughter's shower here. From my first email I was extremely impressed. Tony, the owner, was very professional and accommodating. Day of the shower the two servers that were working, Marvin and Demitra were so attentive. They handled our group quickly and left no detail out. Made you feel as if you were the only person there.
