We had a big group so I can talk about a few dishes.The food and service are absolutely fabulous. I was having such a great time, I forgot to take pics of the food. The Nachos were so good, and so much we took some home. The pulled pork sandwich was perfectly seasoned and the homemade chips were a little spicy, making them a perfect combo. The Chicken sandwich was crispy and flavorful and juicy. We had truffle fries as an appetizer and the portion was generous and the fries were delicious. We had the chocolate brulee for dessert and everyone loved it. For context about the wonderful and kind service, one of us has a disability and they made sure we could use a cup and straw for the person that works better than a glass and they cut the food up, making sure it was easier to eat. Oh my gosh, you guys. These burgers were delicious. The chips were delicious. The fries were delicious. We would hands down recommend this place. Ambiance was cool and trendy, with a very affirming and open feel. The place was busy, and yet we found a seat on a small loveseat right away. You seat yourself and order at the bar, so grab a table as soon as you see it! My husband upgraded to fries for $2 and they were worth it; however, sticking with the potato chips was not a mistake -- we loved those, too! They were just the right mix of spicy and salty. That 5-bean vegan burger? It fought for my right to eat well--loaded with flavor, hearty, and totally satisfying. Paired it with a killer root beer and fries that were so crispy and perfect, I legit considered writing them a love song. Last time I went beast mode on the pulled pork--also intergalactic-level good. The place does get busy, but the staff keeps it cool, no sleep 'til everyone's happy. When you first enter it's confusing what you're supposed to do or go... a lady approached us and asked if we all were over 21- nope so we had to wait for a table and sat and the couches that had seen better days. We checked out the menu then you're expected to order up at the bar- kinda awkward since there are people sitting up there. You also get your own water. You prepay for your food...including tip... which is weird since you haven't been served any food or even had a bite of what you ordered. Finally some tables opened up and were cleaned by the only server for the entire room. Food did come out pretty quickly BUT we had asked for aioli in the side, no pickles and no raw onion...none of which was done... there was a BUNCH of aioli on the bottom and top of the burger. The burger itself was tasty but the chips were pretty salty albeit tasty. I had to chug a good amount of self serve water after eating the chips and burger. We attempted to converse with one another but the acoustics made that challenging and had to wait until we left to hear what we were saying. When I needed a knife to cut the messy burger the server wasn't too excited to grab it for me after I'd been waiting at the bar while the bartender was busy tending to a customer. Honestly the three stars aren't about the food- the food had good flavor, albeit too salty for me and didn't have the items removed as asked when ordering... the three stars are for the lack of service, feeling like and inconvenience, prepaying for food and tip, order not being fulfilled as requested, and having difficult conversing... we don't go out to eat too often so when we do we like extra attention given to us- checking on us, making sure everything is right, and friendly... although food was tasty I'm not sure we would be back because of the experience itself. read more

We were in town, again, to finish getting our son set up in his new place so he can be comfortable and properly setup to focus on his studies. It can be both a good and bad thing to be only 2 hours away. The trip coincided with my daughter's birthday, so we went out for a nicer dinner. She got to decide, and I guided her to select The Brass Monkey. It's great that she still listens to me. The location in the downtown is great and the interior ambiance is awesome. They have a great menu and offer some nice craft beer and ciders, and mixed drinks. My wife is gluten free and she was able to find a few things from which to decide. She settled on the Pulled Pork Nachos, and enjoyed them. I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich with the sweet bbq sauce. My daughter had the Smoked Gouda Mac (which she didn't care for...not cheeses enough for her). And, my son had a Pub Burger. The two sandwiches come with house made potato chips (with a smoky seasoning) and are delicious. We also grabbed a plate of fries. Some of the best pub fries I've had in a while. Crispy. Flavorful. I will get these again. So, overall, a great choice in a town that has a variety of great food to choose from. read more

Family and I tried The Brass Monkey. When you walk in, there's no table service, so you stand in line and make your order, then tell the gal what seat you've found. Seating is limited inside, but they have good seats outside. They have a big menu with a lot of yummy sounding dishes. I ordered three kids meals, wife had the Kale Caesar and I had the Chicken Sandwich. Also ordered the beer battered fries and a Mac and Cheese for the table. Wait time was very short. Everything came out pretty quickly. Here's what we thought. Fries were nothing special. I feel like they're no different than what you'd get anywhere else when ordering beer-battered fries. Mac and Cheese was REALLY REALLY BLAND. I forgot the cheeses, but the combination of them just made the dish very bland. Maybe a saltier cheese, or Parmesan, would have made a difference. Chicken Sandwich. Wow, good, but there wasn't much there. The chicken breast was smaller than my iPhone. Bacon was very dry and overly crispy. Mostly all fell apart. Definitely didn't cover the bun. Just overall wasn't executed well. Overall, seems like a really great place to go on a date, or maybe hang with the boys, but not so much for a family. Food is great. Service not so great. Actually one of the employees was terribly rude and embarrased me by first telling me they were out of my first, second, and then third choice from the menue. I said wow and youve only been open for three hours. The guy looks at me and says please show me how you intend to pay for your meal. I pulled out my bank card, held it above my head then grabbed all the bills and held them up and said or i could just pay cash if you prefer. He was quite slow to deliver my meal and continued to be rude throughout. I noticed several customers looking at me as if to say sorry he's being a prick to you. I say aloud well i guess he's got a problem with disabled people or somthing and for some reason he has yet to drop the check by after 4 requests. I set a 100 dolar bill near the edge of the table and gestured to several patrons " see here it is just in case he decides to call me a deadbeat too" i doubt he had ever received a 75 dolar + tip after providing his best. The Vegan chili could have used some salt, but loved that they didn't skimp on the rest of the toppings and added mushrooms. 4/5 We both ordered Cobb salads. The presentation was super cute, but didn't like that they put guacamole instead of sliced avocado. We went here while on vacation. I had the bacon and blue cheese burger. It was spot on. They mix the bacon pieces into their blue cheese dressing. When I've had other's they were disappointing in how little bacon. Not here, big pieces and large chunks of blue cheese just perfectly mixed in their homemade. I ordered medium well and it came out pink no red just as I like it. You order drinks at the bar. The music was really mixed well and not too loud to talk. The posters and wall art were interesting. Things to know: the setup is "seat yourself", you order food/drinks up at the bar (no table service), bar seating includes bar service. The indoor seating area is a bit tight, so be ready to potentially sit outdoors. I really enjoyed each cocktail I tried, they were all tangy, tart, and well balanced. For food, I had the buffalo wings, which unfortunately were not crispy at all, so I ate a few then decided to take the rest home to finish off in the air fryer (this is what made me leave 3 vs 4). My partner had the veggie/bean burger with fries and enjoyed it. We sat at the bar, and really liked the bartender. He was super busy, but still managed to check up on us to keep the drinks flowing. I think it would be great if they could designate someone to taking food/drink orders to keep things moving during peak hours. Our food took about 40 minutes, so just keep in mind this is not the spot for a quick bite during the hours of 6pm-7:30pm on a Friday night. this Is our first time here on Labor Day. we came from Salem and we were excited to try something new. Outdoor seating is cute and lots of tables. They only have 1 person taking orders and making drinks at the bar. Was the 7th person in line so I thought oh not to bad but it took an hour to place my order. We got there at 1:15pm and didnt get our food til 2:30pm. I understand it's Labor Day and many places aren't open so that's to be expected so we couldn't wait for our food and was hoping it was worth....WRONG. We ordered chicken and waffle which I'm bummed that is the first time I had it and I was SO disappointed. Chicken was overdone and the outside was really dark brown when you over cook the oil. we also ordered the pork sandwich and that was also dry and over done. We shared both and were sad it took that long for unsatisfying food. Only plus was the fries. Crispy and perfect! The prices were way too high for what you got. We ordered the chicken sando (breaded and fried option that cost extra) and the chicken was almost burnt, and had zero seasoning so all it added flavor-wise was a greasy/oily taste. They also had some kind of aioli sauce on the bottom bun that was NOT in the description that ruined the taste for me even after I wiped it all off as it had soaked into the bun. The bacon was also burnt. The pulled pork sandwich we ordered was SUPER fatty and greasy upsetting my wife's stomach. The last item we ordered was the chicken and waffle appetizer, and for some reason they drizzled a cold frosting (did taste good) over two hot items effectively cooling down the hot items and making the waffles a bit soggy. The ONLY redeeming item was the French fries. They were quite delicious. The items cost us $50 and we didn't eat half of the chicken sandwich. Stay away or just order the fries. read more

We ate here a few months ago and I have to say, it was okay. Not great. The worst part was the NOISE. It was lunchtime and the place was only about 25% occupied, but the MUSIC and BASS were cranked way up and we couldn't hear each other at all. I finally had to ask them to turn it down, but it was barely touched and still insanely loud. Food: We had chicken salad on a croissant and it should have tasted a LOT better than it did considering the calories and cost. The fries were good. The soup was average. My bean burger was also very average. Not nearly as good as 4 Spirits or Downward Dog's, but it was edible. I wouldn't ever bother going back, but a friend recently lost a spouse and we offered to take them wherever they wanted to go for a meal, they chose Brass Monkey so we'll pray for the best and expect LOUD mediocre. Loved the interior decor as it has a playful and eclectic vibe. We were lucky to score a booth on the sidewall. As the place is small AND they don't offer table service, if all you can get is a table in the middle you will have a long and steady stream of customers standing over you. For me this closeness of people peering over me, would be a no-go. We enjoyed our bar food. Truffle fries were crispy and flavorfull with a lot of shaved parmesan cheese on top. The loaded pulled-porked nachos had it all, but their ingredient ratio was off as we were left with a heap of yummy toppings without enough chips.
