I had heard nothing but rave reviews about The Blue Elephant's Pottstown location, so I was excited when the location in Wayne opened. It took us a long time to get the opportunity to visit and I hate saying it, but we were underwhelmed. The restaurant itself was gorgeous, the vibes are spot-on and totally upscale. We were seated on the first floor, to the right when you walk in, and it was a bit drafty when the door opened, but otherwise, a great spot. Our waited was polite and kind, but the overall service was SLOW. We each ordered a cocktail and waited quite some time to get them - to the point where we finished them before we finished our meals, but not with enough time to order another. With that said, the cocktails were delicious, and truly the standout of the meal. For dinner we ordered an appetizer (tuna bruschetta), the edamame dumpling soup, and a few sushi rolls. The tuna bruschetta was delicious - a lot of flavor packed into one bite. I would definitely get these again or try to re-create them at home. The soup was luke warm and the broth lacked flavor, it needed a punch of salt, at a minimum. We didn't even finish it. Our sushi rolls were also lukewarm, but not in a good way - they were served too warm for our liking in terms of sushi temperature. They were also incredibly small. We found the flavors to be good, but not great. All in all, I would recommend The Blue Elephant for cocktails and appetizers, but I wouldn't eat dinner here again. read more

My wife and I came here last night to celebrate our 20 year anniversary and as usual, we really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Service was also very good which we greatly appreciate. My wife and I are vegetarian and vegan and we like this place because not only do they have nice options for us on their menu, they're willing to adapt dishes to fit our dietary needs. The other nice thing is that their dishes aren't just run of the mill meals you can find at other places. They offer a fusion of Italian and Asian cuisine that's rather unique. This is a great spot with amazing atmosphere, service, and happy hour specials. The vibe of this place is cool with the color scheme and plenty of bar seating. The bartender was great and the Temaki Trio for $16 was pretty good. They're not traditional handrolls as they're not folded over completely so they can be tough to eat as they fall apart easily but they were pretty good. I definitely plan on stopping by here regularly on my way home. read more

Great food and drinks, friendly service, interesting decor and ambiance, made for a pleasant lunchtime stop after visiting the Philadelphia Flower Show in March. I have only been to this restaurant two times but in my mind and in my dreams, I go often because it is so delicious and the food sticks with you with fond memories. Tuna bruschetta is wonderful because the crispy rice paper "shell" is light and airy. The tune itself was fresh and topped with a delicious chopped pickle with yummy aïoli. I am pretty obsessed with the zucchini sticks, accompanied by finger licking good Gorgonzola dipping sauce. I think about ordering these pretty much every day. I love their hand rolls, they offer three varieties assembled with beautiful plating. Basically, every single bite of everything I've had there has been it simply the best. The atmosphere is really cool. They did a great job decorating with indoor trees and lighting. I love the blues and golds. My experience with the servers I have been excellent they are top-notch pros super helpful with perfect pace. Wife and I came here for a late Saturday brunch. Our waitress was very nice and helpful, and I love the decor, though the gust of cold wind that permeated the first floor any time someone came and went was distracting. The Tuna Bruschetta was outstanding, as were the corn fritters (though I don't know that I'd actually call them fritters, they were tempura corn sliced off the cob). I had the Drunken Noodles with Beef and really enjoyed it. My wife had the Pad Kra Pow Rice with Shrimp which should have tasted similar based on the menu's list of ingredients but it didn't have any spice. I'll definitely be back, will try some rolls next time. read more

I'm still at the restaurant, finishing up my last piece of nigiri and giving my experience 5 stars. The service was excellent, and the food was "exquisite" in my 10yr old's words. Joe, our server was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. We mostly ordered sushi and lots of starters to share which worked out perfect for our first visit. The nigiris, tuna bruschetta & carpaccio crudo were excellent. My kid enjoyed umai shrimp, and edamame dumplings. Their signature drink was okay, but my old fashioned was yum! One thing that did catch our eye was the Italian influence of pasta in this very asian eatery - can't wait to try the lobster curry! Update : I'm not taking away points for this, but they need to make their sushi roll offerings a bit more adventurous. ALL of their sushi rolls have eel sauce. Why?! I love traveling and exploring restaurants. My friend and I were in town for a dear friend's memorial service. We stopped by the blue elephant on the first day for a quick bite and a drink at the bar. I was blown away by how beautiful the restaurant was, and all the little details. The service was impeccable and food was outstanding. I had to come back for a full meal. We made a reservation for dinner and everything again it was just perfect. We got Hokkaido bread, chicken, lettuce cup and tuna tartar. We were fighting over the bread. You must order more than one. I wanted to take the leftover butter home with me. We also have sushi sampler and two types of pasta. They were all amazing. I am back in LA and I wish I could go back there right now. read more

We've eaten at the Blue Elephant several times and always enjoy their food. This restaurant excels at tasty cocktails, a sexy ambiance and provides an eclectic mix of Asian-fusion, where every dish does not disappoint. If I could change one thing about this restaurant, it's the staff at the desk that greets you when you enter. Each time, the host/ess has been a bit on the snarky side and condescending to our group. This is the not the best first impression that you would like when dining. As a party of two, we were told that the maximum amount of time we could spend at our table was 1.25 hours. Well, when it takes the 25 minutes to get our drinks and appetizers, that doesn't leave enough time for dinner and dessert. I think by limiting the amount of time you have to dine, the restaurant is losing money on after dinner drinks and dessert, but I will respect their policy and leave when my allocated time is over. The actual waitstaff is helpful, friendly and offers valuable information on your dining selections. They are in fact, the antithesis of the front desk staff. The atmosphere is a mix of sexy club and art deco. The downstairs dining is a bit loud, but still enjoyable with their high top tables and comfy banquettes. The upstairs is a little more quiet and just a beautiful place to enjoy a great meal. The stairs are a bit steep to get to the second floor dining, but worth the trip, if you make it. Overall, I would highly recommend The Blue Elephant and don't let the front desk staff scare you off. read more

This was the second time we tried The Blue Elephant, and I'm afraid it will likely be the last. Our waitress made our dining experience a frustrating one, with prolonged wait times between her visits back to our table. The food also contributed to the lackluster experience. I'm not sure what the current trend of putting fruit in sushi rolls is all about. The sushi lacked form, flavor, and variety. The fried rice, made with what I think was some sort of whole grain rice or brown rice, tasted like something I could have made at home... the wrong type of rice notwithstanding. In short, the combination of terrible service paired with inauthenticity makes The Blue Elephant an unwelcome addition to South Wayne Avenue. While some may enjoy the gilded atmosphere, I find it ostentatious and completely out of place for the neighborhood. read more

Great happy hour at the Blue Elephant, from 4-6. Drink and food specials. I got the blue elephant cocktail which was very popular, it has a distinctive purplish color that is easily recognizable, it's quite tasty and not too strong. For my next drink I got the Silk Road, this was a bit stronger and very flavorful! The glass is rimmed in Aleppo pepper giving it a nice kick! We ordered edamame, and the shishito peppers, as well as the dumplings, both pork and veggie. Everything was delicious! Our bartender Marten, was on point, quick with service, making good drinks which he was knowledgeable about, and checking on us regularly. The bar itself is very elegant and tastefully decorated. They have a nice bar/cocktail area as well as tables for lunch/dinner downstairs, and another lunch/dinner area upstairs. Bathrooms on the first floor by the kitchen entrance and at the top of the stairs. Street parking can be hard to get but you can usually find a spot in the lot across the street. read more
