A beautiful restaurant with attention to decor details! The restaurant claims to be Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant but when we went there was nothing really Italian about it. None of the pasta items posted online were actually present on the menu. That being said, the fish they used for sushi was high quality. Aside from the sushi, everything else was mediocre. Plus I question some of the choices they used to name their menu items. Kobe beef? It's hard to believe the marbling on the beef is actually Kobe. And anything labeled Hokkaido milk technically is supposed to be with milk from Hokkaido and I'm pretty certain this is not. Our server was kind but service was s-l-o-w. Our meal took 2.5 hours because of the time it took to get all our food. Also it took about 40 minutes and two reminders to get our initial cups of water. Stylish Asian/Italian fusion spot in quaint Wayne, right near Teresa's and 118 North. Wonderful selection of food and drinks, and the service was wonderful! We didn't get any apps for once, but we got two entrees and two sushi rolls. Both the shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were wonderful, with great texture, and the soy sauce was delicious (not overly salty or overpowering). Next up, the entrees. The tortellini were tender, clearly homemade, but didn't really have much in the way of truffle flavor. The edamame could've also been smoother, with more salt. It had good mouth feel, but honestly, not much flavor. The impression I get is this is one of their better dishes, so maybe they just had a bad night. The other entree was the drunken noodle, and this was amazing! Not overbearing with the Thai basil, noodles perfectly cooked, nice level of spice, and everything blended together perfectly. Epic! We had a few cocktails as well, like the harvest moon and the namesake blue elephant. They were not only beautiful, but delicious as well. On the pricey side for cocktails, but not unusual for the main line. Overall, the service was magnificent, and the food and drinks were delicious. Give this place a shot! read more

So I finally got to sit and eat at this restaurant. I had take-out at the Pottstown location, however, a couple of friends and i visited the Wayne location for a sit down dining experience. The establishment is nice and lovely blue and elephant decor. There is main floor and upstairs seating. You have your use meter parking, $1 got us 2 hours which was plenty of time. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. The appetizers were our main course and we shared them. We did order one entree to share as well. My fav was the warm bread with butter and jam, shrimp, tuna tartare and scallops. The sushi was okay, but I've had better at Japanese restaurants. I'm in town for a graduation and staying at a hotel nearby. I didn't want hotel food so opted to order takeout at a restaurant. I decided to try the Blue Elephant because it had good reviews and looked decent. I called to get takeout thinking it would be maybe a 20 minute wait at 5pm on a Wednesday night. I was told it would be an hour. Wanting something quicker I decided not to place the order. The person I spoke with seemed to have a bit of an attitude but I let it slide. I was going to get food somewhere else anyway. No harm no foul, they weren't getting my money. I saw I had a missed call roughly an hour later from the restaurant. I called back wanting to ensure I wasn't in fact charged for the food. I spoke to someone named Adeline. She told me the original person called to let me know they could make the food in 30 minutes. But at that point I decided to go somewhere else. When I asked her what her name was she gave it but when I asked for the person that took my original order I was told "I won't be giving that to you because it was taken care of." I told her "I would like her name because if I am in fact charged accidentally and I dispute the charge I want to be able to provide my cc company the name(s) of the people I spoke with." It was only after that, that she gave me the name of Harper. I let her know I hadn't planned on even leaving a review because I didn't eat the food and I was going to let Harpers attitude slide. But because of her comment here I am leaving a review. It's crazy that people lack customer service and common courtesy. What's also crazy is I had the thought before I spoke to Adeline "I'll swing by tomorrow to try them since they have good reviews." haha nope that won't be happening. Located on Wayne's "Restaurant Row," the Blue Elephant is the newest entry in the Win Signature stable, a restaurant group owned by Win and Sutida Somboonsong. Their other culinary outposts include Mikado Thai Pepper in Ardmore, Teikoku in Newtown Square, Azie, in Villanova & Media, and the Blue Elephant in Pottstown. Like its elder sibling, Wayne's Blue Elephant majors in Asian fusion cuisine, which is basically Italian-Thai with some Japanese influences thrown in for good measure. As I mentioned in my review of the Pottstown outpost several years ago, this all sounds good... But, once again, proper execution - or, more specifically, the lack thereof - proves to be the problem. A number of those menu items certainly look intriguing - in print. Once they hit the table, however, it's back to cold, cruel reality. For the most part, the items we've sampled in several visits have been feasts for neither the eye, nor the palate. But let's begin on a positive note...My dining partner's preprandial cocktail - the Autumn Mule - turned out to be the highlight of a recent evening's visit. An unlikely combo of vodka, green cardamom, chai (a spiced tea beverage that originated in India and is made by steeping black tea with milk and spices), black peppercorn, cranberry juice, and yuzu (citrus juice), it was just unusual enough to tantalize the taste buds and stimulate the appetite, If I had to pick a high point foodwise, my nod would undoubtedly go to our shared starter, the Miso Chicken Lettuce Cup. Ground chicken was wok-sautéed with miso (soy bean paste) and then served with zippy sriracha (a hot sauce made from a paste consisting of chili peppers, distilled vinegar, pickled garlic, sugar, and salt) and wafer-thin slices of pickled ginger. As you would undoubtedly suspect, there was the possibility of heat aplenty here. Fortunately, the hot stuff comes in a mini ramekin and may be applied at the individual diner's discretion. And while I wouldn't go so far as to call the dish exceptional, it was, on the whole, quite good. With the coming of the entrées, however, things proceeded downhill at the speed of light. Consider my dining partner's Eggplant Teriyaki as exhibit A. Panko breaded Italian eggplant, sweet miso, garlic sautéed green beans, and short grain white rice... sounded good. So good, in fact, that I almost ordered it myself. What materialized, however, was a major disappointment. First of all, the presentation: three big clumps just sitting there. About as much savoir faire as you would expect to find at the local greasy spoon. Secondly, the meaning of the term teriyaki refers to a dish - meat, fish, or vegetable - that is grilled or broiled after being soaked in a seasoned soy sauce marinade. Any remnants of such a marinade, however, were certainly conspicuous by their absence, as the above-mentioned constituents were as Bland - with a capital B - as they looked. Anything even approximating flavor was purely coincidental. Needless to say, my dining partner was significantly less than pleased. And I felt precisely the same way about my Drunken Noodles (so named because it was thought that this spicy Thai dish should be consumed with a cold beer). Stir-fried wide noodles are combined with a variety of spices, which tend to vary according to individual recipes. There are, however, certain inclusions that are considered de rigueur, such as Thai basil, vinegar, chili peppers, and peppercorns. In the Thai culinary casebook, this is a relatively simple dish... unfortunately, the kitchen still managed to muck it up. First of all, the noodles had a pronounced and offputtingly slimy consistency. I have enjoyed this dish on numerous occasions in a variety of restaurants, and this is the first time I have ever encountered anything quite so unappealing. And, as if to add insult to injury, the chicken I elected to add to the presentation was terribly dry and overcooked... Not the kitchen's finest hour. The Bottom Line: Wayne's Blue Elephant promises much; but, quite annoyingly, in my opinion, fails to deliver the goods. And, once again, like its elder sibling in Pottstown, the restaurant's reach has apparently exceeded its grasp. read more

Five stars for our server! Our server, Tony, really went above and beyond. I have a severe shellfish allergy and he went and checked with the chef to make sure there was no hidden shellfish. Good thing he did, because there was lobster stock in the sauce (it was duck pappardelle). I was able to switch my choice seamlessly. There was a small mixup and the original was brought out with my husband's entree, but Tony came out and quickly whisked it away, before checking on my replacement entree. He was extremely thorough, which was appreciated. It can be hard eating out sometimes because my allergy is not taken seriously. Tony apologized profusely for the mixup and comped a dessert for us, which was really nice. The food, itself, is very good. We had the tempura corn fritters, tuna crudo bruschetta, edamame truffle tortellini, and wild boar pappardelle. It is exactly as advertised - a fusion of Thai and Italian. It had the richness of Italian food and the light fragrance of Thai food. An interesting combo, which surprisingly works. The manager, however, was a bit unprofessional. After the mix up, we saw her going to speak with Tony and the other server (who was very confused) about the duck dish making it to our table. We heard her literally shout "you didn't cancel the other one!" at Tony, clearly in earshot of patrons. She appeared to be berating him. Additionally she never came to check on us, which is fine, but usually in a case like this the manager will come over once the mistake is fixed. It overall didn't seem appropriate. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in the area!! We got the wagyu appetizer which came with a sizzling hot stone to put the wagyu beef slices on. I ordered the tom yong pasta, my husband got the steak, and we also got the goat cheese crouton salad. Then we got a creme brulee to share. The salad was quite a large portion size! The goat cheese croutons were cool -- it was like the cheese was breaded and deep fried. Very tasty! The tom yum koong squid ink pasta was SO good. I have never had pasta like that before and it was so chewy and tasty. The flavor with the pasta is very unique. If you like thai flavors then this is good! The steak was really good as well, although the steak was quite fatty so the size is not quite as advertised. The dish was overall very good though! And the creme brulee was delicious as well. read more

I visited with a group of friends and our waitress was patient with us as we kept saying we didn't know what we wanted to order yet (we were too bust chatting lol!) We visited for brunch. We loved the delicious Tuna Bruschetta - so unique. I ordered the Wasabi Caesar Salad and loved it! It was nicely portioned so I was able to take home leftovers for dinner. The food is highly overpriced for the quality. We were a party of 7. We ordered two orders of gyoza. All cold. Three steaks were ordered. 2 medium rare and one medium. 30 min later the food arrived room temp. The medium was rare. Sent back to kitchen. Brought out a totally new steak 15 min later. It was rare. That was about it. We told them we weren't paying for the steak. They took it off the bill. Drunken noodles were almost inedible due to spiciness. I had Blue Elephant sushi roll. Mango inside roll was not ripe. Like eating a potato. In the middle of summer you can't find a ripe mango? Cmon! This was our second visit to Blue Elephant. It will be our last. Just really bad food. Ambiance was brutal. It was lit up like a mental ward on a Friday night. Dim the lights. Add candles to the tables. Here's the list of what we got: Squash soup: flavorless and grainy in texture. We sent it back. It had croutons on the side that tasted like the ones that come in a premade salad mix at acme. Haikado bread: also flavorless. The butter and jam on the side was fine. Chicken fried rice: rice was overcooked, chicken was dry. Just terrible. Two sushi rolls: forget the names but both were small and loosely rolled. Taste was ok but there is much better sushi out there. We went for happy hour on a Friday and had SUCH a positive experience. We had no wait to be seated, and our server Tommy was incredibly attentive and provided a ton of top notch recommendations. I was a huge fan of Matador, which was in this spot for quite awhile, so I was curious as to what had replaced the delicious tapas there. So on my first visit to The Blue Elephant, I was hoping to experience something special with their smaller plates, and they absolutely delivered far and beyond my expectations! The aesthetics of the main room and bar areas are extremely welcoming and bright, and comfortable for a variety of Main Line types, from the casual diner in shorts to a tailored jacket patriarch. The staff is warm and friendly; and are informed and ready with drink and menu suggestions. The hand rolls are simply amazing a-la carte delights, so exceptionally delicious and fresh! The California Roll features lump crab meat, rather than the traditional cube you will find at most sushi establishments. The texture blends in to the avocado and rice, while standing out in its flavor. The Yellowtail Roll is nothing short of amazing, possibly one of the finest rolls I have ever eaten! To follow these, I tried the pork gyoza, which was soul-transporting: perfectly prepared with a dipping sauce which will send your taste sensations aflight into the heavens! I am certainly going to return - SOON - to sample more of this inspiring fusion menu, so look for me to add to this review in the near future! Not sure where those low ratings came from. My friend and I came here for dinner the other night. First off this restaurant is breathtaking! The details are beautiful from the chandeliers, gold elephant decors, gold rimmed glasses and gold utensils. We sat upstairs and ordered a few items. My friend is currently pregnant and was able to order a mocktail that they had (forgot what it's called but she enjoyed it!). I got the blue elephant which was beautiful and tasty. I got salmon and branzino sushi for an appetizer. Both were very fresh fish. I enjoyed the spice from the wasabi. I also got the pork belly ramen. Really good. I just wished there was more of the pork belly or dish overall? My friends for the shrimp tempura hand roll and the shrimp drunken noodles which she enjoyed. The prices are high here but I can see why since it's located on the busiest street in Wayne. Our server was very nice and attentive as well. I thought it was a great experience overall! Would love to have work dinners here. I think they would enjoy it. Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu :) read more

We came here pre concert for a cocktail and appetizer. The bar was full but quickly we were able to sit. The bartenders were very attentive and accommodating. The drink selections were interesting Asian twist on classic cocktails. I opted for essentially a smoked old fashioned with pineapple. Although I couldn't taste the pineapple per se the drink was boozy and delicious. We also opted for a standard old fashioned not wanting miso, tea infusions, and sake in our cocktail. The restaurant was hip and lively with people. We also had the vegetable and pork gyoza. They came 6 to an order and were steamed. The flavor was good and the dipping sauce was so good. I can say for the few things we tried it was good. The food coming out also appeared good and the vibe was good. All in all for drinks a good stop on a busy Friday night in Wayne. Wow. So glad we decided to try this place. From the golden elephant adorned door handles to the stylish decor, this place is a must try for any foodie!! The ambience and customer service was top-notch!! We wanted to try a little bit of everything. Here's what we tried: Trying a new place. It was AMAZING!! shishito peppers- tempura battered, japanese spices, garlic yuzu aioli ** Sooo goood, very lightly battered and full of flavor without being spicy!! umai shrimp- crispy tempura batter, gochujang aiol ** crispy and tasty!! tempura corn fritters-togarashi, chive oil, gorgonzola crème * Seasonal item*** these were probably one of my favorite. The Gorgonzola cream with the fritters were absolutely amazing.!! wasabi caesar- baby kale, crispy wonton, parmesan, edamame, black sesame, wasabi caesar dressing *** this sounded very interesting and since we really love Cesar salads, we had to try this. Did not taste the wasabi, but the salad was very tasty! eggplant teriyaki - panko breaded italian eggplant, sweet miso, garlic sautéed french green beans, white rice **** this was so delicious! The Blue Elephant has such a sophisticated and elegant ambience even from the moment you open the door with the elephant door handles and enter the restaurant. They have a downstairs floor with tables for dining and a bar. They also have more room upstairs for dining. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter who was very nice and provided friendly service. Cocktails were delicious. As the food came out throughout the meal, we couldn't help but notice how efficient the service was. The food came out fast but at the same time we did not feel that it was rushed whatsoever. They timed it perfectly. The food itself was delicious. The tuna bruschetta had nice flavor with the dill aioli and wasabi all packed in a bite. The philly special roll with kobe beef had a nice smoky flavor. The main course involved asian inspired fusion. If you want to go somewhere that takes a bold spin on food and utilizes unique flavors that work-- this is your spot! My lamb was cooked perfectly and cut like butter. The Thai curry sauce that accompanied it was so spicy and flavorful. Finally, the dessert had such a delicious combination of matcha, fruit, and crunch that accompanied the creamy texture. Another first visit. The restaurant is surprisingly upscale ale and very well done in this smaller town. We went for dinner with a reservation for 5 people. Meals: 1. Scallops, done perfectly. Good balance of vegetables. 2. Spicy crab fried rice. Needed a little more spice and crab. 3. Drunken noodles with Kobe beef. (3 of us ate this). Excellent meal and the beef was tender. I would have enjoyed more Kobe beef or a recommendation of Kobe beef on the side. The staff was outstanding on New Year's Eve. My date was on time but I got caught in traffic and was late for my reservation. The waitress and manager spent the rest of the evening treating us like we weren't wanted there. The dining area was empty but the manager refused our request to change tables. The waitress told us when had two minutes to order and then said we had to order the full menu at once. The whole night was unpleasant service and the manager eventually asked us to leave. But the food was even worse than the service. The mocktail I had tasted like sugar water. The avocado salad was a pile of mixed greens with half an avocado on top. The tofu teriyaki didn't seem to have any teriyaki and the tofu was practically raw. Worst dining experience I've had in a long time. read more
