I used to frequent Poseidon--mostly for lunch, sometimes for dinner, and a few times for takeout. One evening in the summer, I stopped in to order takeout. The young woman at the desk was engaged in a conversation with her friend. Both were about 17-19. I stood patiently waiting for quite a while. Finally I spoke up and said "May I see the takeout menu?" She handed one to me, and went back to her conversation. The "friend" sneered at me and moved so that she was blocking me from the register. I couldn't believe it. After a while I looked at the employee and finally said "Oh hey, I am ready to order." She glanced up and nodded. But went back to listening to her "friend." At this point I walked up to the register and said "Excuse me but I'd like to order." The "friend" GLARED at me, spitting venom from every pore. Then she launched into a TIRADE. I ignored her and placed my order. I won't lie though, I was fn shaking. Here I am, a middle-aged woman who's endured some trauma and BS in my life and come out on the other side, and this nasty little B is taking me on?! She continued to glare at me the entire time I was there waiting for my food, up to and including when I walked out the door. It was APPALLING. How no one got involved is just disgusting. I spoke to an employee and asked for the manager/owner. She said they weren't there. I left my name and number and asked for a call back. Heard nothing. The food is OK--not worth abuse. Coming from California, the affordable price of the sushi boat and the BYOB was a culture shock for sure! We enjoyed the $72 sushi boat that came with 15 pieces of nigiri and 3 rolls. The rolls were all delicious, generously filled and topped with accompanying sauces and garnishes. We loved the yellowtail, salmon, toro, and uni nigiri, those were definitely the standout bites of the night. The kitchen sent out a complimentary spicy beef appetizer that was also really good! The mala chili paired so well with the tender slices of beef. Washed everything down with a smooth sake we brought ourselves and it was just the perfect dinner! read more

I found this restaurant by accident while driving to an appointment. Waze took me past it on an alternate route. I noticed that the parking lot was full and filed it for a future visit. My partner and I went there recently. We both had Egg Drop Soup. They tried the Kobe Steak Eggroll. The steak was so tender that it literally melted in our mouths. OMG! For our starter, we both ordered the Hawaiian Fried Rice which was full of Jumbo shrimps, scallops, crabmeats, fresh pineapples, onion, egg, and diced green & red peppers. There menu is extensive. Tucked away in a building that has been home to several restaurants, Poseidon Asian Cuisine, hopefully, will enjoy a longer and more prosperous tenure than its various predecessors. And, based upon several recent visits, as well as the comments posted on social media, as of this writing, the gastronomic gods - especially the Greek god of the sea - seem to be smiling favorably. The menu, of course, rounds up the usual suspects... sushi, sashimi & teriyaki; fried rice, noodles, Szechuan stir fry & poke bowls. Familiar the culinary constituents may be, but... the ingredients are of impeccable quality, the preparation & presentation first-rate, and the atmosphere - including a beautiful patio for al fresco dining in warmer weather (pictured) - relaxed and inviting. Add personable & knowledgeable service, reasonable prices, and the fact that you may BYOB, and a very pleasant dining experience awaits. There are, as you may very well suspect, numerous ways to start things off here. My dining partner, for example, is a lover of crab, and she went immediately for the Crab Cheese Wontons, which she highly praised. I, on the other hand, since I consider myself something of a veggie-saurus at heart, felt very much in the mood to give the Tempura Vegetable a try. My choice for the evening was a rather simple dish, the Eggplant with Chicken. That being said, however, the brown sauce was quite excellent... It was also slightly on the spicy side, which was very much to my liking, as there was just enough heat to invigorate rather than incinerate the palate. The slender slices of chicken were moist and tender, and the eggplant just the proper texture and consistency. My dining partner went straight for the Sexy Lobster (pictured), a dish she had thoroughly enjoyed during a previous visit. The lobster is steamed, formed into a roll and stuffed with lobster salad. It is then topped with steamed shrimp, avocado, red tobiko (flying fish roe), and companioned by spicy mayo and mango sauce. An absolutely fabulous dish that is highly recommended on all counts... And as you can tell from the photograph, it was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate. As noted above, the service here is quite good. In this regard, however, I do have one significant complaint; and I take a moment to dwell upon it here, not because it is endemic to Poseidon, but because it seems to be occurring with the nauseating inevitability of an unloved season (mostly, it is true, in more casual eateries; but occasionally in fine-dining establishments as well - a prominent Michelin-starred restaurant in London, which shall remain nameless, comes immediately to mind). The scenario goes something like this... You and your dining partner have stepped out for a leisurely dinner. In absolutely no hurry, you're enjoying your appetizers and some very pleasant conversation. You're not quite halfway through the starters when... you guessed it... up pops a runner bearing entrées. This is a positive no-no. There is absolutely no way that entrées should be presented at table before appetizers have been cleared. Unfortunately, this Speedy Gonzales approach to restaurant service has become more and more commonplace of late. And this questionable state-of-affairs is certainly not the fault of the kitchen; rather, it occurs because of the inexperience of servers and, ultimately, as a result of poor management. Some restaurateurs seem to be under the mistaken impression that anyone with the appropriate number of appendages is qualified to wait tables... and that, quite simply, is not the case. Occasionally, a bit of instruction is very much in order. read more

This was a fun date night with my 12yr old, who is obsessed with sushi! The servers were eager to help us. For a weekday, they were quite busy, but didn't let service slip. We split the firecracker shrimp- which is an homage to Bang bang shrimp, but with the sauce drizzled on top. It was great to have large shrimp to dig into, but the lack of (delicious) sauce left us craving for more. The sushi signature rolls were interesting. My lollipop roll came with no rice, and lots of sashimi - light on the sauce which was perfect! My daughter's Poseidon roll was good - a bolder use of sauce, but still flavorful. I usually order the lunch special with two sushi rolls. On my last visit, the eel avocado roll was warm--to the point of being unappetizing. Unfortunately, it left an aftertaste that lingered for hours. I decided to give the place another try with a Chinese lunch special instead. The egg roll was so greasy that it literally dripped down my face when I bit into it--honestly, it made me feel a little nauseous. The sushi here. Is fantastic! I had a special roll with toro, spicy tuna and salmon - I am sorry I don't remember the name. I also ordered unagi sushi. If I had known the toro roll would be so big I would not have ordered the unagi, as much as I love it. I was more full than usual after a sushi meal as this roll was huge...and SO fresh! This one of the best sushi places I have ever tried. When I am back out on the Main Line I wil definitely go here again...or maybe it it really worth the 20 mile drive! read more

Poseidon has become our rock-solid go-to for Chinese/Japanese cuisine. The menu is flush with the choices you'd expect and some chef's specialties that are out of this world!
