Ombra is an absolute gem! The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, but what really stands out is the service. The staff, management, and chefs genuinely go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and taken care of. The ambiance is also excellent for all types of dinner parties, and The BYOB is an added bonus, especially with no extra corkage or ice bucket fees! I discovered Ombra in Havertown after searching Yelp for new restaurants. This spot on Brookline Blvd. has been several different restaurants over the years, but the light, new decor and open kitchen make the interior fresh and appealing. However, the restaurant is small with only about 12 tables indoors, and it was packed. There are also a few tables on Brookline Blvd although it's right next an ice cream shop with people hanging outside the shop right next to where you're eating. Service was efficient and unobtrusive. We received a bread basket and olive oil to start. The bread was plain and nondescript, not at all herby like I was expecting. Our pear and Gorgonzola salad would have been bland but the Gorgonzola in the poached pear was the star of the show. The salad itself was also small for the price. I ordered the scampi with wild shrimp and crab cake and asked for the spice level to be turned up. Thankfully it was and was delicious and full of flavor. The house-made pasta which was part of the dish was a treat as well. My husband said his Chicken Milanese was just okay and not really exciting. He only ate one piece of the chicken. He did get an extra side of pasta, though, which he enjoyed. I had to order the affogato which did not disappoint. Our server poured the espresso over the vanilla ice cream at our table. Yum! Be advised that they sometimes have limoncello but when I asked, they said they had run out. Also, they're byob which is a great money saver. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant. The food is very mediocre underseasoned and bland. They do not know how to manage the reservations, we walked into a restaurant with almost the entire Restaurant empty Was told we were going have to wait. Not sure why they would have reservation times, but not honor them. I would recommend eating elsewhere. read more

We went to Ombra with a reservation on a Saturday night and it was absolutely wonderful. We opted to sit outside as the interior was a bit noisy, but it was a perfect night and we enjoyed our choice. We started with a calamari appetizer. The calamari was cooked perfection with just the right amount of breading and a delicious tomato sauce and seasoning with big tender pieces. I got the soft shells crab special, which was absolutely divine. My wife enjoyed the scampi and a side of broccoli. Both entrées were super delicious and good portions. You can really tell the difference in the homemade pasta. We finished off dinner with a cannoli dessert, which was just the right size to share for a little sweet treat. It was just the right amount of sweetness. This may have been the best dining experience we've had in Haverford and can't wait to come back for another date night. read more

After just one visit I've decided this is my favorite restaurant in the area, and actually possibly all of Philly. Every dish we ordered was DELICIOUS. We got the beef carpaccio, the beet salad, the shrimp scampi, and squid ink pasta. I would order them all again except I also want to try everything else on the menu. I also loved the bread that they served at the beginning of the meal and the olive oil. The service was excellent too. Everyone was very friendly. We will definitely be back!!! read more

We made a reservation via Resy and the place was hopping. Even though it was quite busy the service was exceptional and the wait staff must own the place as they take particular care of every customer. The food was outstanding. Delicious focaccia bread and olive oil is served at each table. We had the beet salad, the Norma pasta dish and they switched out the cod for Bronzino that was exceptional. Such a lovely addition to Havertown! Very attentive service, cozy but inviting/modern interior, and excellent food. Went with a group of friends and we all really enjoyed the meal. It's a bit pricey but we could taste the care for and quality of the food. The calamari was a group favorite--crisp, tender, with a delicious spicy red sauce. The beet salad was less a salad and more a fancy beet plate. The pear and gorgonzola salad was beautiful and so fresh. I enjoyed the scampi a lot, especially the homemade pasta, but the shrimp were a tiny bit overcooked. Desserts were wonderful, not too sweet (except maybe the creme brulee). The basket of seeded bread is a welcome accompaniment as is the ceramic oil vessel for dipping. Rigatoni with veal sausage, ample and Al dente. The pappardelle is a tomato base egg noodle with short rib, perfect for a cold fall night. Finished with cappuccino and espresso with complimentary limoncello rounds out a fun evening. Wonderful Italian BYOB in the heart of Havertown. Appetizers and entrees were wonderfully crafted, with outstanding flavor. Price point was fair as well. Service was very attentive, especially for how busy the establishment was. My only criticism was the artichoke appetizer was a bit small for sharing. Was in town visiting friends and had the most delicious meal at Ombra. Every single bite was amazing. I loved the pear & gorgonzola salad. The hamachi crudo appetizer was absolutely delicious. Everything was served with a delicious focaccia & oil - simple and so good! I had the pappardelle that had an incredible short rib, and tasted the scampi which was excellent. Portions were large, and we were stuffed -- so it felt like we missed out on dessert. Even though were were so full, we ended up having the limoncello, which was the surprise of the night. I am not an expert when it comes to dinner drinks, but the limoncello was not too sweet, too strong, too sour, it was exceptional! Service was attentive without being overbearing or feeling rushed. I would definitely go back, it would just be hard to figure out what to eat because everything was so good and they have so many great options on the menu. The restaurant reminded me of a little European bistro, where it's intimate, and you are treated like family. It's a lovely space, well decorated--I loved the bathroom decor! We went with Prosecco to this lovely BYOB. Newly renovated and comfortable. Service was attentive and beyond accommodating. They brought us 2 ice buckets because I had NA and my wife had reg. 1st course was Hamachi Crudo. The citrus and sliced cucumbers matched perfectly with our Prosecco. The Hamachi was sliced thin and perfectly blended with the other ingredients. Our second course was Quail in a chocolate sauce. The blend of the crunchy skin and chocolate was a mouth explosion, complex yet balanced. Our third course was wild shrimp scampi. Beautiful ribbons of pasta with wild shrimp and crab in a sauce with perfect heat. Again, balanced, complex and delicious. Our fourth course was Branzino. A beautiful cream style sauce in a layer on the bottom of the plate, there was asparagus, blistered, heirloom, tomato, and sweet corn. I am running out of superlative to describe the dishes. It was fantastic! My wife and I split everything and each dish, except the Hamachi Crudo, was split between two plates. For dessert, we split an order of tiramisu and the oil cake. Both are home runs. Our primary server, Ryan, was informative, friendly and accommodating. The meal and service we had tonight was 10 out of 10. Ombra is highly recommended. This is an under the radar gem. The menu is deceptively simple. The space small, cozy with low key music and buzz conversation at each table. The food is world class, as is the service. Beet salad was terrific, as was caesar salad last time. The $27 sardine and anchovy pasta had little taste. At minimum, it needed salt. The duck breast was tender, yes, but little taste. It needed spices or a deeper/longer marinate or brine. A real bummer. Side dishes were fine, as was service. An overall bummer. I live in Havertown, but will not be back. read more

I never write a review, however, I thought this place deserved one. Went for the first time, had a cesar salad that was one of the best I have ever had. Great new Italian in Havertown. Everything is made from scratch. First time so we tested their pasta. Wowza. Parpadelle noodles were perfect chew and the ragu was delicious. I had the ricotta gnudi with creamy truffle sauce and mushrooms. They're softest pillowy gnocchis that I've ever had. Forgot we started with calamari and Caesar salad, both excellent and enough to share. Finished with desert and on the house homemade lemoncello. Will visit again for sure to try their entrees.
