Visited LaScala's Fire with family for dinner recently. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated and given water. Looking at the menu, there were a few appetizers that sounded tasty. We shared calamari, burrata board, and bruschetta. They offered sushi, but since this was an Italian restaurant, we didn't want to request it. The calamari was a miss. It didn't have great flavor and the sauce it came with was just meh. The burrata board was tasty as was the bruschetta. For dinner, my wife and I split the chicken piccata. The portions were large and we were both on a diet. Upon arrival, the portions were huge and there was more than enough for each of us. It seemed like we got a full portion on each of our plates. The piccata was creamy and delicious. Our server was very friendly and overall, I'd highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The place is really nicely decorated and the bar is beautiful but the food has a lot to be desired the burrata appetizer board was nice and plentiful but the pizza was horrible a frozen pizza would have had more taste and when you enter the restaurant it has a bleach smell to it not very appealing. The Italian in my area is pretty lackluster. We tried LaScala's and for a local chain, I was very impressed. We celebrated my husband's birthday and the server acknowledged the celebratory event which was nice, because often times it is overlooked within a reservation note. The meatball app was sizeable, filling and also very delish. The meatballs were very good, and they weren't tough. There is nothing worse than a hockey puck meatball. For dinner I tried a new menu item, the vodka pasta with a chicken cutlet, burrata and hot honey. A MUST order!! The restaurant is bright and modern. The ambience and location are nice. In terms of food the only thing propping this to 3 stars for me was the pizza. The pizza was solid and crispy. Outside of the pizza however the rest of the food we got was underwhelming. Everything else we ordered was either dry or insanely salty. All of the parmesan paninis were dry and even after soaking them in marinara they were overwhelmingly salty. I would only ever come here again maybe for pizza. read more

We went there today for lunch. The hostess seated us promptly. We sat there for roughly 15 minutes and no one came to take our drink orders or give us water. I'm a pretty patient person but no one even acknowledged us and multiple staff members walked by our table multiple times. This is a great spot to get a good meal when in the Villanova area. This is a great chain, so you know there is a lot of consistency and quality in the environment, meals, drinks, and service. I've never been disappointed leaving this place after a meal! Conveniently located immediately west of Villanova's campus on Route 30/Lancaster Avenue, you can't ask for a more convenient location when visiting the school. There is ample parking, as it's in a mall complex with other businesses. Service is always attentive and professional, and that's always been a big positive of the whole dining experience. Inside, it's very modern, spacious, and clean. Expect it to be busy if there's a Villanova game that day! For the food, I usually get their individual pizzas, which are outstanding. Their Mike's Hot Honey one is really worth trying, with sausage, pepperoni, mozzarella, and ricotta! But they have a lot of other good options, like salads, paninis, and pastas. It's more of a laid back, informal restaurant without a lot of high priced entrees. They have a good drink menu with some creative cocktails and wine. The beer list is a bit limited, with about 10 of the major beer brands in bottles or cans, and about 4-5 on tap, with only one or two being local craft breweries. But there are plenty of options for all tastes. I'll keep coming back as long as they keep up the combination of great food, service and environment! read more

If you're thinking of heading to LaScala's Villanova for a relaxing Sunday lunch, don't. Just don't. Spare yourself possibly biting into a wet paper towel masquerading as pizza. The pizza oven wasn't hot. Translation: They weren't ready to open, and it showed. To their credit, the service was excellent. But I had the grim task of wiping someone else's leftovers off a sticky bench seat before sitting down. Beer taps? Half-empty. The brunch offerings? Nonexistent. And the overall vibe? Worn out from the night before I guess. Here's a free tip: if your gas pizza oven hasn't heated for at least three hours, your beer taps are dry, and your brunch menu doesn't exist, maybe don't open the doors on Sundays and let the place rest. read more

My husband and I dined here with another couple for dinner last night (Sunday) at 6pm. It was their first and our second time eating here. We had reservations, but it was almost empty. The hostess promptly greeted us at the front and seated us. For some reason we were given a high-top table. No one objected and it turned out fine, I just thought it was odd to not offer a normal table or booth since we did have a reservation and it wasn't busy. The ambience is cool, airy, and clean. There is a full bar front and center and a partial view of the kitchen at the back. The restaurant is nice but not "fancy" -- great for any occasion. The menu has something for everyone without being overwhelming. Our server was not the warmest, but she was cordial enough, and she got our orders correct. We did have to ask for water refills more than once (they bring bottles to the table; our last one was bone dry for a while before we left), but she was otherwise attentive. Most of the staff actually seemed pretty miserable...but maybe it was due to the terrible Eagles game that was on. (Not sure if they're fans but they were all wearing Eagles shirts and jerseys.) The food was good overall. Temperatures, portions, and wait times were appropriate. The Burrata Board was delicious -- highly recommend. We enjoyed it last time we came here as well. For my entree, I had the Lemon Crab & Shrimp over Linguine, which was decent, but it could have used more seasoning (or garlic, maybe?). My husband had the Lasagna, which was disappointingly undercooked in the middle. The Tiramisu was great. No complaints voiced by our friends. I would give this more recent dining experience 3 stars; however, since we were completely satisfied last time and I would consider dining here again, I'll average out a 4-star rating. read more

I love this place! Staff is soooo friendly and good. Ambiance is good. Outdoor seating available. We ordered Baked Eggplant Parmesan, Spinach-feta pizza and to end our dinner on a sweeter note, we ordered Tiramisu. Only reason I gave 4 stars in food is because tiramisu does not contain ton loads of caramel sauce and chocolate sauce and shredded chocolate (usually). There was no taste of coffee in Tiramisu and was overly sweet. But, keeping the dessert section aside, loooooved the pizza and baked eggplant. Must must try the baked eggplant. There are good options for vegetarians like me. Everything is made in house so if you want to personalize anything, it is possible. You can tell them to opt out of any meats and they will be happy to do it. Talking about parking, there will not be any issues as it has pretty adequate parking spaces available. read more

Went to La Scala's in Atlantic City and it was excellent! The staff, the vibe, the drinks, the food, everything! Decided to check out the Villanova location and it was not excellent. Went at the awkward time between lunch and dinner, so was not expecting a vibe, but was hoping that everything else would mirror the AC location. Nope! Ordered the same dishes that I ordered at the AC location and the Nova location disappointed! The pizza was meh and the apps were dry and overcooked. The drinks were meh at best. And the service was lacking even though the restaurant was near empty. Most of the employees appeared to be college-aged students milling about aimlessly. The dinners came well packaged. Salad was good. One entree was penne with tomato cream sauce which was fine. Now the bad news. LaScala needs to redo their scampi sauce. There was barely a garlic flavor - had to add my own garlic. The consistency was off and the additional flavors of a good scampi sauce were just not there. It was off texturally as well. Stopped in for a lunch on a Monday with two hungry boys. Staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was great with the smells of a traditional Italian restaurant. Now onto the food. We all elected for a different pasta dish, and let me tell you it didn't disappoint. Ravioli, Rigatoni with Vodka sauce and Alicia's Sunday Dinner - Magnifique! We had dinner at LaScala's. They have a great menu for happy hour so we took advantage of that and ordered cheesesteak eggrolls, giant pretzel, and cheese pizza. For our meals, we had lasagna, chicken parmigiana panini, and angel hair with crab. Everything was delicious. Large portions so we brought the extra food home. They do charge 2.99% surcharge for credit cards but they do have a no fee ATM on site. The atmosphere is great with an open feeling and views of sports on the TVs near the bar. So they need you to know as soon as you are seated after making reservations for a few weeks- that if you pay with a credit card they have an up charge of 3.5% and if you prefer not to pay there is an atm matching right outside around the back. We were here celebrating a couple of birthdays, a party of 6, and this beginning kinda put a damper on things to start with- didn't expect this beautiful restaurant in Villanova to start off with a conversation about an up charge if paying by a credit card. I know we didn't book a table at just random trattoria- But enough about that- the food and drinks were pretty good, even though a couple of drinks were not available as they were already out of the alcohol, but we certainly found others. We had high hopes for our friend dinner here the other night, it just wasn't that good. First I will say that the ambiance was good, the restaurant was clean and the server pretty attentive. We started with drinks, which were fine. The basics wine, bourbon, margaritas etc. The Apps were the best part of the meal. Meatball trio was excellent, good flavor nice size, plenty of sauce and a nice ricotta. The cheesesteak egg rolls were good with a nice sauce but the serving was very small and not worth the price. The La Scala fries were also good. Very big portion good flavor and lots of toppings. Be warned, though they can be a bit spicy. The artichokes were pretty good, a nice portion but maybe a little bland. Arancini. I didn't have these but was told they were very good Brussel sprouts were a little under cooked. Only ok We had 6 pizzas way too much for our party of 6 There is some debate in the group about the best pizza we had, either the 4 cheese or the grandma. Let's start with the pizzas came out quick, probably too quick considering we were still on our apps. They were hot and fresh and had very nice presentation. 4 cheese was the best in my opinion. A healthy amount of cheese, good flavor, thin and crispy. The Grandma a favorite at the table , I think the only one to be finished. Personally I thought it was dry and flavorless. The Mushroom/ truffle was a bit oily and overpowering of truffle. Not a favorite. The spicy chicken had good flavor and lots of toppings. I would say that the Gorgonzola cheese was very over powering and took over a bit too much. The shrimp and the margarita were the last to come out. Not a good experience. I was sorry that I significant other took me there. It was large and spacious (but noisy) and after a significant delay our server was attentive. It was pretty empty for a Saturday evening. I ordered a pizza with Prosciutto (tough to locate the tasty little morsels as there weren't many of them). There was way more bland cheese along with Arugula. The combo should have been good, it wasn't. My significant other ordered a veggie panino and said the veggies were good but not the bread....I don't plan to return. BTW the red sauce (Gravy) was bland and out of a jar. As a result I wouldn't recommend the pasta entrees, although there were large portions (near a college so I guess the students might like the quantity but probably not the quality. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times, and have always been very pleased with the food and service. I feel like I keep on forgetting about this restaurant and I need to add it into my repertoire much more often. I think it would be good for a date night or a girls night out and I would actually bring my kids who can be pickey. The menu would work well across the board. I love the service it was terrific, in spite of the fact that there were several large table celebrating the holidays. My friend and I shared this super delicious fig, Gorgonzola and prosciutto pizza. It was to die for. The crust was airy and chewy-crunchy at the same time and the layers of fig jam with prosciutto, and Gorgonzola and mozzarella was perfect. It was memorable. Wow- I haven't given a review this low in a long time and don't do so lightly. Our server was sweet and my cocktail was good- hence 2 stars. If rated on solely food, it would be one. I haven't had a meal this bad in ages. I got the ravioli special- prosciutto, capers, artichokes and parmigiana. The clearly frozen ravioli were covered in capers, like hundreds. 2 artichokes could be found. The only sauce was caper juice- so salty- I'm still drinking water hours later. No cheese. The worst sin was what they did to the prosciutto- it was cubed and essentially brined in caper juice- causing it to taste like ham chunks that have turned grey. My friends chicken francese was dry and so tough. We let our server know these were subpar- she was apologetic, but it's not her fault. So we figured we'd try to salvage this meal with dessert- the profiteroles, which should be airy, were hard as rocks. By the end, we were just laughing that this meal was cursed. Not sure if this was a horrifically bad night for the kitchen or par for the course. Either way- it's a one and done for me. read more
