Five stars for the bar guy who gave us service for Sunday brunch. Five stars for the inside downstairs and live music. Beautiful inside. 2 stars for the food. Over priced and meh: classic New England. Pay for the music and decor. No wait at the door when we strolled in at 11am. read more

Love the live music at The Beehive. Great atmosphere and nice staff. Have also gotten apps here and they've been great!

My friend and I went to Beehive early so it was quiet, which we didn't mind. The food was decent. My favorite was the truffled short ribs. It was tasty and tender. The meatballs and chicken wings were alright, nothing to be hyped about but it wasn't bad. The overall experience was slightly above average. It's not a place I'll yearn to come back again soon, especially with so many dining options in the area. read more

I came here with a group for brunch one weekend morning. We had never been here but were delighted when our reservation sat us by the stage. No one was playing but I could only imagine the venue filled with music notes and revelry. The architecture and the artistry of the space was really catching and I found myself thinking I would love to be married in a unique venue like this. And of course the food was delicious. I dream of the Middle Eastern/polenta/egg breakfast and hope to get it again soon. read more

I came here for the Jazz brunch and I had such a great time! The service was amazing and I strongly recommend getting the coffee cake.

This place has a lot of potential, but I went on a Monday night and the website was very unclear that there is NOT music on Mondays, which was a bummer. It was pretty empty, but I can see it being a great vibe when there's people and music! The drinks were good and the food was also worth going for alone. The cauliflower was our favorite, but they were out of the brisket (another bummer). I'm definitely planning to go back on a night with music! read more

Amazing! Our concierge at the W Hotel suggested the Beehive for Sunday brunch. This was not just any typical brunch, thankfully! The Jazz Trio sounded wonderful. We were seated right away and greeted by Goose our server. Goose has been working for the Beehive for many years and knows the menu inside and out. Goose suggested the EGGS SHAKSHUKA which did not disappoint! Poached eggs, north African style tomato sauce, polenta, toast and harissa spiced lamb: YUM! I can't stop thinking about how flavorful it was. Actually thinking about flying back to Boston JUST FOR A MEAL at The Beehive! Jodi, the manager stopped by to introduce herself, she's a doll! Even the Bloody Mary was excellent. Can't wait to go back. read more

+1 star for not getting sick the second time I tried this place, but unfortunately the front of the house staff is still not very welcoming and the food does not justify the high prices. Pros: -Food comes out quickly -Very courteous waitstaff who stop by a reasonable amount (not overkill) -Beautifully plated dishes Cons: -Pricey -Can't have conversations here given the live music -No room to move inside as each table is basically on top of each other -You can't be seated until your party is complete or nearly complete, and there is not enough room to linger by the bar -They're busy, but the hosts still come off as rude when they tell you you can't be seated until your entire party arrives, and there's not much of a greeting (if any) when you enter/leave. I find the waitstaff to be much more pleasant. -- Atlantic Salmon ($26.00) Good sized piece of salmon (5oz?) with nicely fried crispy skin on top of black rice, cauliflower puree (this was probably the best component--light but buttery), roasted romanesco, and walnuts. The salsa verde was not obvious. This dish was the #1 recommendation of our server, but I was disappointed as the only standout element was the cauliflower puree. For $26, I'd rather get several meals from a fast-casual restaurant. I wouldn't get this again. French Toast & Chantilly Cream ($14.50) I was impressed with the size of the slices when this arrived. My first reaction was wow--this dish was incredibly rich. It seemed deep fried with how crisp it was on the outside and soft on the inside. After finishing just one piece I starting feeling sick. I had several of my friends help me eat the rest, and they thought it was good but agreed it was far too rich. I proceeded to feel sick the rest of the day and couldn't stomach eating anything else! Definitely do not recommend. read more

I love The Beehive and only wish I lived closer so I could drop in more often. I have been here for a couple of NYE Celebrations and a few brunches too. Good vibe but serve your customers more drinks and your bartenders less. It was a fun time don't get me wrong but that a bit intrusive.

We made a reservation for 6 people at the Beehive Sunday morning at 10am. I loved the eclectic decor and music immediately. The policy is to not seat your group until you are all present...so arrive together people. Great drinks and I'd recommend trying the coffee cake as a kick off to your brunch. We had some hiccups with our order: steak and eggs brought to table with - wait for it- no eggs and my Shaksuka dish was missing the 'spicy lamb'. Corrections made but really no apology or offer to make it better. Burgers were a hit as was the grain bowl. Overall, it was a good experience but not great. read more

Had the "German" meal of sausage and sauerkraut. WORST "German" food EVER!!! My mom is German. This meal was a total joke.

We came here for brunch the other day and it was a decent find. Pros: + Lamb shashuka - I never get it with lamb in the states. Such an incredible dish + Interesting decor + Decent Service + Easy to make a reservation with OpenTable Con: - Pricey - Loud - the environment is very jazzy. So, if you're here to listen to music, perfect. Not always the best for a quieter group. read more

Because nothing quite encompasses the blissful harmony of youthful hedonism and grown-up integrity like cereal, tonight the role of Frosted Mini-Wheats will be played by Beehive: The Frosted - A jovial doorman? On Tremont? Hot damn. - All things basement. The split level layout allows for quiet, serious conversation up top (Richard, there's somebody else) and raucous, jazz-infused shenanigans down below. Bars in both locales. Guess where I played? - Quirky art in random spots around the spacious downstairs area. The ominous, 8x10 mural of a Native American (?) woman locked in a blank stare haunts my soul. Bathrooms are worth a look-see, and Sharpie graffiti seems to find a permanent home on the urinal wall (if it's tasteful) - The music this time around can be described as Santana meets Elbow with a pinch of Cuzco. Present but not overpowering. - Our bartender was warm and amiable despite countless arms outstretched waving fanned singles (big spenda!) Her recommended drink, the Beehive Julep, was deceptively potent. Two please. The Wheat - Attracts the basic quorum of bar-goers, only they're more polished in their roles. Sharks in suits, loose women in MAC, and the "homeless" are really just renters. Be prepared to deal with egos who have no concept of personal space. Overheard: "You're about to spill your drink on me." "If I do, I'll buy everything I ruin." - Adult paychecks necessary. PBR spiked with Cristal? Not quite, but the cocktail selection is outstanding and priced to match. Expect $10 a pop. - Chandeliers = sophistication. Takes note from the other French nightspot (see: Gaslight) - Bare bulbs = torture chambers. Somehow though, it worked. Why Mini? - The overall feel is light, airy and fun. And cute, but that word isn't in my vocabulary. Unless we're talking about liger cubs being bottle-fed by baby chimpanzees in a bed of daisies. And leave the milk at home. Pervert. read more

Looking to impress an out-of-towner or potential love interest? Book brunch at The Beehive. They'll be impressed with your classy yet hip taste and appreciation for great music and food. If they're not, they weren't worth your time anyway. Take me with you next time. Brunch reservations require a credit card, but make one just in case, as peak times do fill. And they assured me over the phone that if you need to change anything or even cancel with a bit of notice, they won't charge you. This is just their way of ensuring that you're committed to a great experience. The atmosphere is on point. Funky decor like a Buddha surrounded by a fuzzy boa on the wall mixes with more classic fixtures like chandeliers and a long bar. The stage in the center hosts the jazz band, which can be seen by the majority of tables, and heard by all. Any day that starts with jazz is going to be just fine. Lean back, relax, and open up the menu. There are so many interesting options - and some even sound healthy! We decided on the eggs shakshuka and the breakfast bowl. The bowl was a hearty portion of Mediterranean fare including baba ganoush, hummus, couscous, scrambled eggs with spinach & feta, a falafel ball, and pita for dipping. A very fresh and diverse dish with a unique cultural twist! The eggs shakshuka was shockingly flavorful with poached eggs in a delectable tomato sauce with onions along with polenta that added a luscious creaminess. Also served with some dipping pita. My only complaint was that there wasn't more. I practically licked the bowl. The service throughout the reservation process and meal was consistently friendly and helpful. The servers were attentive to our waters and our satisfaction. And the jazz was a wonderful backdrop to the conversation as well as an interesting focal point when there was nothing left to say. read more

NYE at the Beehive brought in the New Year with a Bang! We bought tickets to the event, and I want to share that The Beehive was a fantastic venue! The Ab's rocked the house! They played a wide variety of music, and the dance floor was jumpin! Just when you thought it couldn't get any better the Sultry Parisian Burlesque show started- Calamity Chang, Lil Steph, and Stormy Leather put on a memorable show. The Beehive was a fun spot for brunch. We were seated in the main room in front of the stage and got to enjoy live jazz music! The atmosphere is definitely different, cozy, and relaxing. We ordered the Eggs Shakshuka and poached eggs. The food, honestly, is mediocre. I've had Shakshuka in Israel and it wasn't as good as it was there but given that this place has live jazz music and great drinks it makes for a perfect spot to take friends to! The poached eggs were just ok. Nothing special. I'm taking my mom here when she comes to visit! read more

Came here with three girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. This is a fun spot with a really cool vibe. Drinks were fun and creative. I am docking two stars: one, because my dinner was extremely salty; and two, because service was just okay. Our waiter was clearly very busy, but he made me feel like I was putting him out by asking if the bar could make an off-menu cocktail (hot and dirty martini.) I also didn't love that we had to place our entire order at once -- drinks, apps and entrees -- all at once because they were very strictly enforcing a time limit. I understand that policy, but I think I would have enjoyed the experience much more if I hadn't felt so rushed, been made to feel like I was bothering a staff member for politely making what I think was a fairly reasonable inquiry, and if my food hadn't been so salty. If I were to go back, it would probably be to enjoy the cool vibe over a glass of wine and an app, but nothing more. read more

My friend and I came to Beehive for Sunday brunch and although we left with full bellies, would not return. The ambiance is highly themed and unique, with many different areas--tables right by the live jazz band, an area overlooking the band but with separate theming, and an upstairs area. We were seated at one of the tables to the side of the band, but with both chairs next to each other rather than across, it was a little weird to talk to each other, especially when the table was so small and we were so close. The live jazz band was an interesting experience, and one I haven't seen in Boston yet! The service was good, and although on the slow side, we didn't mind because we weren't in a rush. The menu/food was a little disappointing. The options were very limited, especially for vegetarians/picky eaters. There were probably only 7-8 entrees on the menu, of which only 1 of them looked good to us, so we both got the Blueberry & Ricotta Pancakes. We also ordered the coffee cake du jour, which was pineapple coconut. The coffee cake looked more like French toast when it arrived, but tasted fine. It definitely tasted most strongly of sugar and cinnamon rather than pineapple and coconut. There were a few pieces of pineapple in the cake but I would never be able to tell that there was coconut. A miss for me. The pancakes were actually pretty good, and I could really taste the ricotta, which made them so much fluffier and creamier. However, the blueberries that were incorporated into the batter had a funny taste. The Creme Chantilly on top was quite tasty as well. I've wanted to check out The Beehive for over a year now, and while I can finally say I've been, that's about it. I likely won't return, as the jazz band is the one differentiating factor from other brunch places, and I've already seen it. The food, menu, ambiance (apart from band), and service were unmemorable. Bottom line: A highly themed restaurant with a live jazz band, The Beehive's initial draw is quickly diminished by the average food, service, and ambiance. read more

If you come here on a Sunday during brunch hours, you better be in the mood to make some choices. First, do you want to sit outside on the patio or inside? That'll decide which hostess you should approach. If inside, be ready to stretch some muscles, as their door is rather heavy. There might be a wait, but they'll happily call (or, as they prefer) text you once your table is ready. If you would rather avoid stairs, be sure to let them know right away, as there are limited seating options on the ground floor, and the rest of the restaurant is located down a flight of stairs. Then in their subterranean level, it is as if you are in two different establishments - there's the cool, darker area set before the stage (did you know that they offer live jazz music during brunch?), and then there's a bright space to the left with its own bar area. Yup, two whole different personalities here, co-existing together. Our little four top before the stage actually consisted of two small round tables pushed together. We thought we'd have to use our outdoor voices, but fortunately (for us anyhow) the band took a break as we were ordering, and went back to action as our food arrived and our mouths would be too full to talk politely. We were also hungry by then, so food took precedence at that point! We decided to share 3 dishes between the 4 of us: Thick Cut French Toast, Chantilly Cream, Maple Syrup $14 Short Rib, Farmhouse Cheddar & Fontina Grilled Cheese $18 Eggs Shakshuka, poached eggs, North African style tomato sauce, polenta $14.50 with Moroccan sausage +$1.50 for $16 The french toast arrived 3 triangles to an order with some berries speckling the mound of cream. One of us found it too sweet, but also realized she may have overdosed it with the maple syrup by accident. Me, I thought it was quite small a portion for the price. And while some of the edges were crisp with the center more soft for a nice contrast in textures, I felt it might be more too oily a soft rather than custardy soft. The Short Rib Grilled Cheese was bland, tasty, and disappointing all at the same time. One friend suggested tucking the vinegary cole slaw between the bread with the short rib since he initially thought it a bit bland. I also added a slice of the pickle, and this did indeed boost the flavor! But we were disappointed to see that the cheese in this grilled cheese was nowhere near melted. The Eggs Shakshuka looked interesting though was not very impressive a presentation. With two small poached eggs and two small pieces of pita bordering the half and half plate of red sauce and creamy polenta, we wondered where the sausage add on might be hiding. We found them beneath the eggs - two tiny stubby little things, but admittedly quite huge in flavor and spicy to boot. Nearly too spicy for me, but others quite liked it. Me, I liked the soft pita it came with and the sweet tomato sauce and mild polenta, and wished for more of the same, but one of the two eggs were sadly hard yolked. $3.75 for a glass of OJ? Whoa. Yes, not a very impressive a showing, though our server at least let us know she had not forgotten us when the food was taking some time to arrive. read more

Came on a weekend night so it was definitely a packed house. Loved the live jazz music they played all night as it provided both a nice dining experience and entertainment venue all in one spot. Our server was a sweetheart and very knowledgeable about the menu so that also helped. We started with the Tuna Tartar as our app and wow, what an interesting fusion of Asian and Mediterranean ingredients. The addition of the chickpeas, olives and spice to the tuna tasted amazing together. Would totally order this again. 5/5 For my entree, i went with the Nantucket Flounder. The fish itself unfortunately was a bit plain and overcooked but the verde sauce helped to bring out more favor with each bite. 3/5 We ended the meal by sharing the cheesecake but quickly wished we had gone with the bread pudding instead. 3/5 Overall, I upped it to 4 stars for the fantastic app, superb service and live entertainment. read more

Sunday brunch review Reservations recommended. It was pretty packed and we had ressys for noon and people coming in had to wait 2 hours! (No ressys required at the bar-first come first serve) I liked the jazz band playing and our seats on the bottom floor. But in general it felt Old and rundown inside and had that sticky bar feeling. I ordered eggs Benedict and the hollandaise quantity was so small I had to ask for extra. The eggs were overdone and The potatoes were so burned. They had an old taste to them like they were made days before and had been sitting on the grill drying out and getting beyond crispy. Our waitress performed all her duties but seemed like she wanted to be elsewhere and was bothered to get more coffee, which by the way was not good. read more

More accurately, this killer neighborhood joint is 4.5. The service at our table was great as were the two bartenders downstairs after our meal. Our drinks were made well and fairly priced. Our dinner was excellent; it came out fast and was cooked perfectly. We ordered the spiral pasta w greens and sausage, along with the gnocchi ragu. I only wish the portions were a touch bigger. The trio that was playing was gifted and the house sound was mixed perfect for the dinner crowd. Don't miss this spot. read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning and was told the wait would be over an hour unless my friend and I wanted to sit at either one of the bars. We decided to sit at the downstairs bar which was actually a great choice! We were close to the live jazz music and the whole downstairs area is beautifully decorated. The food was great and the menu wasn't too big so I didn't feel overwhelmed with too many choices. That being said, everything on the menu looked delicious. I ordered the blueberry ricotta pancakes and my friend had the poutine with eggs and short rib. Both were great and decently sized portions. First, I have to say that the food and service during our meal were both AMAZING! But I had a not so great experience with two managers. I took my daughter and a group of her friends here for brunch on Sunday to celebrate her 21st birthday. It was a big group (started as 11 then went up to 13). When I called to make the reservation (2 weeks in advance), the manager said they don't normally take large groups as they don't have the space, but since it was a holiday weekend, he said "I guess it will be ok." His attitude was very much like he was doing me a favor by taking the reservation. When I called back a few days later to add 2 more people, a different manager gave me the same attitude, as if it was a burden for them, but "I guess it's ok." I did not feel welcome AT ALL. Note: The place is not small, and had plenty of seating. I get that staffing is always an issue these days, but it was not a last minute reservation, and if staff was the issue, they could have told me that, I would certainly have understood. I did not appreciate the attitude when I was bringing so much business on what they described as a "slow weekend". read more

I'd been wanting to go to The Beehive for a long time. I finally went there for brunch. The restaurant was much bigger than I thought it would be, and the service was great. They had a jazz band that thankfully didn't play so loudly that I couldn't have a conversation. However, the food was awful. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and a side of bacon. The food had no flavor. One of the eggs was way over-cooked. The hollandaise sauce was really bad... simultaneously flavorless and sour at the same time. Either the sauce went bad or they used way too much lemon juice and forgot to add other ingredients like salt. The bacon was the worst I've ever had. The lack of flavor and texture, which was like wood, indicated it was really old (several months old) and freezer burnt. I would probably go back here for drinks and jazz, but I would never eat here. read more

Came here twice- once for brunch and once for late night music. Ummm.. on the same day. Love the art and ambience here. Tip: when making a reso on open table, credit card is required. Brunch: we sat downstairs with a view of the jazz band and had an amazing brunch. The food was spot on - tomato soup was very rich and tasty, pork grilled cheese on thick toast was deliciously fattening, as was the eggs Benedict (perfect cooked fries on the side and perfectly poached egg). Server was very friendly. Late night music: Even tho it was 10 hours later, it was the same host (that remembered us) and gave us an amazing table upstairs overlooking the stage and downstairs area. We ordered the mezze platter which was a ton of food and SO MANY different tasty dips with hot pita. Super tasty. 2 mini-sized bottles of Chandon (SO reasonably priced at $12 each) made for a nice accompaniment. Had the bread pudding for dessert which was thick, had an amazing caramel rum sauce, and tasty melty vanilla ice cream on top. Server was fantastic. Music amazing and not too loud. Would give 0 stars if it was possible on this app. Absolute idiots served my pregnant friend a Bloody Mary WITH THE VODKA IN IT after clarifying and ordering it as virgin drink. Unacceptable. Next time, we'll hit McDonald's for brunch over beehive because at least they don't unapologetically drug pregnant women and endanger their unborn child. And yes- it was unapologetic, 10 dollars off a severely overpriced meal as an apology. When you drug a pregnant woman you comp the whole bill. Absolutely disgusting behavior. I came here for brunch with a friend. We made a reservation for 10 am but it wasn't needed. There's seating outside and inside, and since that particular saturday was bearable, we decided to sit outside. Waiters were very attentive in filling waters and making sure we had everything we needed. I ended up ordering the French toast minus the sausage. I was surprised that their "brunch" menu seemed more like a lunch because they had burgers and ribs on it. Anyways the French toast was anything but spectacular. They were covered in peaches that seemed to be canned and not made fresh. And the sauce they were in was too sweet. The French toast was not memorable as I can't even remember how to describe them. After about 2.5 hrs, the waiter kindly mentioned they needed the table for a reservation. So we ended up leaving at that point. But up until then, we had great service, as waiters checked to see if we wanted any drink refills or wanted to order anything else. Overall I probably won't come back here because of the limited vegetarian options and the lack of great tasting food. read more

We attended an art opening at the cyclorama and three of us, my partner, my daughter and myself, headed over for dinner and drinks. After waiting half an hour for a spot, we sat at a table on the balcony where we could see the musicians. We ordered drinks and dinner. After about 45 minutes of catching up, Frank excused himself to find the mens room. Apparently, he opened the door of the kitchen in his search, which is classic absent minded Frank behavior, because next thing my daughter and i knew, our waiter was back at our table asking which drink was Frank's. We were totally confused and asked why he wanted to know. We were told that our waiter had decided that he had had too much to drink and was being cut off! This is a guy who grew up in Ireland and can certainly handle one and a half beers. We tried to explain that there must be a misunderstanding. Our waiter was snippy and definitive. I asked that he return and actually speak to Frank and see for himself that he wasn't at all drunk, but he refused. A few minutes later when Frank returned we explained where the half beer he'd left behind had disappeared to. We decided to leave. I totally respect a bars right to refuse service but they should be more responsible and discerning, a one sentence conversation with Frank and they would have realized their error. I didn't know that The Beehive had a brunch menu, until fellow Yelper, Kami F. mentioned it to me. She wanted to come here for a birthday brunch, and so we did just that. I had come to The Beehive before for drinks and apps, but that was it. Never for brunch. The YAY: Great service. Our waiter was super attentive, and answered a ton of questions. The maitre'd was awesome too. Our mimosas had just the right amount of juice and champagne. The food was delicious. The bacon was meaty and perfectly crisp. The French toast tasted like a fruity fried dough smothered in chantilly cream. I didn't order this, but I snagged a tiny bite. Having said that I should have ordered that instead of the short rib eggs benny... The music was awesome, and our seats were good. The NAY: The short rib eggs benedict was okay. The short rib was perfectly seasoned, but the hollandaise was lacking in terms of the amount that was placed atop of the poached eggs. I usually ask for it on the side, but forgot to. The home fries were a tad bit dry, and I found myself asking for ketchup to smother them in. The noise level was a bit loud, but expected as it was a busy Sunday. We found ourselves screaming out what we wanted to say. All in all, we had a good time and left feeling very satiated. read more
