During a trip up to Chico, we decided to take a take from all the usual places and try a new place for dinner with my boyfriend's family. We decided on the Banshee because we were in the mood for pub food and drinks, but it is a full restaurant and therefore can bring the pre-teen nephew. When we arrived, we were seated in the back at this weird low table towards the back. Although it was a good table for a cocktail lounge, it was awkward for dinner being that it was so low. The place was very dark and pretty noisy for a restaurant and more like a bar. We ordered a variety of drinks and our meals, which were mostly gourmet hamburgers and the fish tacos. My hamburger was served medium rare (perfect cook) with a fried egg on top. It was quite delicious and pretty big. I even took 1/2 back with me and ate it for breakfast. Why not, it's halfway breakfast with the egg. The food was good, service and drinks were good - but it's more BAR than restaurant when it comes to bringing the whole family. All in all, I had a good time and a good meal at the Banshee. read more

The banshee 10+++ for customer service but the fish tacos were not that great ! I guess I'm more of a crispy fish type of girl , they were super sort, the fries are so seasoned and delicious! This bar in downtown Chico is a hidden gem, it may be small, but it is always full of customers and they have multiple beers and cocktails. They have surprisingly very good bar food, the owner was once featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." The bah-mi sandwich and fish tacos/pork tacos are amazing! Hey Y'all, just found myself at the banshee this past weekend. After much researching the yelp comments... decided to get the mac n cheese becuz multiple people said it was their favorite, I added jalapenos to it for some spice. it was a huge portion which was great but i found myself missing the amazing-ness everyone was raving about. I also found the noodles they chose to be quite weird for a mac n cheese. My hubby got a burger that he didnt particularly like, and when she asked for something else the waiter gave him attitude which rubbed us both the wrong way. Maybe it was just a one off but I do want to go back to try out the pho french dip. read more

The philly cheesesteak is ridiculously good. The bread is beyond soft, clearly fresh, and the whole thing came out piping hot. Obviously made to order. Also got the pork bahn mi tacos and was very impressed. Literally tasted exactly like a bahn mi sandwich, just in taco form. Spring for the duck fat garlic parmesan fries. Not cheap, but totally worth it. Only reason I dropped a star is the lack of communication. Tables in the back are open seating, but there's no way to know that without asking. A simple sign would saved some time and alleviated a few groups of people standing around inside the front door waiting to be sat. All in all, excellent food and above average beer choices. So, The Banshee is special to me for really only one reason: it serves the 'Impossible Burger', a revolutionary burger made entirely of plant products that tastes, sizzles, and even BLEEDS like a real burger. No, I'm not exaggerating...read up on it; it's UNREAL. The Banshee is a neat little dive bar that features some incredible and diverse fare, ranging from meat lover dishes to vegan food; there's even PHO here, if that makes any sense. Their beer selection is awesome, the atmosphere is dark and classy, and it's overall a sweet little place to grab a meal and a drink. Service here is sporadic at best. I've been here before when the service was great, and I've been here other days where the service flat out sucks. One time, a server walked past me five times before asking if I wanted a menu. The food, though, is five stars. The vegan 'Impossible Burger' is like nothing else you can find north of Sacramento. While The Banshee doesn't make this burger themselves (a Silicon Valley startup does), they prepare it impeccably. The bun is great, the toppings are fresh and crisp (no crappy Vlassic pickles) and the burger is done to perfection. If you haven't tried it....try it. I am a huge fan of The Banshee. Everything on their menu is so tasty! And I have tried almost everything. A few of my favorites items are the Bacon Mac n Cheese (It's to die for!), Fried Cod Tacos, and the Pulled Pork. They have good beers on tap as well as a full bar. The seating can be scarce depending on the time of day, but you can usually find a spot to grab a beer and a spot to stand if too crowded. If you haven't been here you have to check it out. The atmosphere here is friendly and inviting. We sat at the bar, busy place with lots of locals. Bartenders were outgoing and helpful as we were"first timers". We love wings and so they recommended we try them. They are unusual and awesome all in the same bite-These wings are smoked for hours and then fried and sauced. Amazing!! Alright so...I'm not sure what restaurant these 5 star reviews went to, but this place, in my very humble opinion, is exceedingly average. It was VERY busy on a Wednesday night. I was surprised at how much seating the place has once I wandered further to the back. It took a couple minutes of waiting to find a space and table to accommodate 3 out of 6 people in my party. The rest of us had to stand awkwardly in the walkway and outside without being approached or even acknowledged by staff. We wondered if they maybe just don't utilize the outside seating during the weekdays? Luckily, the seated individuals from my party were attentive and quick-to-act at the first moment they sensed either of the nearby tables were starting to stir, indicating they were about to abandon their seats. They were able to snag two more tables to add to accommodate the rest of us. The waitress was VERY nice and pleasant. The drinks took a pretty long time to arrive, and at different times. Because of this, they decided to comp one of them (which we didn't ask for but it was a nice surprise!) The overall consensus of the food was that it didn't quite live up to our expectations. All of us had heard great things about the food! Between us were the mac and cheese (underwhelming and average), fish tacos (worth the price, pretty good), and the impossible burger (average - I mean how can you mess up a burger?). my wife and I decided to give this place a try after seeing it on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. As soon as we walked in we were surprised that it really didn't look anything like it did on the show. It was very dark and obviously it was a bar not a restaurant. I know they address this on the show but it looked more like a bar / restaurant instead of a bar that serves some food. there was no one there to greet us or tell us where we could sit so we decided to sit ourselves. We only found one open table and it was dirty. We asked one of the staff members to clean it and she kept telling us she would in a minute. She continuously walk back and forth next to our table however never stopped clean it. At this point I was going to clean it myself when a different staff member came over and cleaned it. there was no menus and they asked us to order before even letting us see what they serve. After asking for menus we placed our order. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the pulled pork sandwich. The food took quite a long time and I was quite surprised at the slow service. There were several tables around us that were also complaining about how bad the service was. Several of the guests at the other tables got up and went and found their own menus because the staff was not bringing the men you just as they did not bring us menus. Once they finally brought our food we advised them that we did not have napkins or forks and were told that they were in a bucket on the table. This bucket was empty and we had to find staff to go get us napkins and forks. The food was sufficient but nothing special. I was very surprised as I expected a more. My wife said the fish tacos were pretty good but nothing to write home about. My pulled pork sandwich had very little flavor and it was not spicy in anyway even though it's called The Spicy pulled pork sandwich. It tasted like something you would get from Applebee's. the service was the biggest issue though. Even after we were done eating we had to ask someone to get us a check because they would not come check on you at all. The guest next to us had the same problem finally just went to a manager complained about not getting a check and just gave them a debit card and said just to charge them so they can leave. So all in all I would say this is a bar not a restaurant and two go there with the expectations of going to a bar. The food is nothing special and you might as well just go to Applebees. The service is absolutely horrendous and be prepared to Serve Yourself. Very disappointing I might have just got a bad night because there seemed to be an issue with the staff. The two female waitresses seem to be arguing with each other and one of them even went and complained to the male waitress who very loudly yelled at her that he did not care. Came in on a Monday night with a friend for dinner. We were luck enough to find a table in back right away. The server was very nice and attentive My friend ordered a mixed drink off their extensive menu and she was really pleased. We split a mac'n'cheese (REALLY GOOD,) but the real star of our meal was the burgers. They were juicy and delicious. Everything was well seasoned with salt and pepper, so maybe it ended up a little pepper-heavy, but it went really well with the burger. Good service, great food, fun bar/pub atmosphere. read more

The people who work here are so nice, and I love the impossible Burger and Banh Mi tacos. But the "Philly Cheesesteak" I ordered, and I'm a Philly boy, was absolutely disgusting. It was a greasy pile of gooey fried mess of overly-chopped up, fat-saturated food on a grease saturated bun. They use red cherry peppers or something that get all tossed in and have tough skins that you have to pick out of your teeth. This was nasty. I'll eat just about anything, and I was grossed out. I tried to pick off some of the meat to eat it, but there was a "sweet" taste that maybe they added sugar to caramelize the onion. Sweet has no place on a Philly Cheesesteak, and they aren't a glob of garbage that sticks to the roll. read more

I've never been so ignored by staff ever. It was a Sunday evening with 9 people at the bar and a table of 4 to my right. They took their order while we were told go to the bar to order, no problem. We ordered, never did anyone come ask if we need anything, so I went to the bar 4 times. Twice to ask for a spoon because it never came the first time, more beverages, and to ask for the bill. The older gal litteraly watched me get up and walk to the bar only for her to look at me and completely ignore me. There were 3 bar tenders that spent more time leaning on their elbows then serving customers. Then as we left the old gal had a smart attitude that reminded me of a 13 year old I will never recommend or return. Worst place I've ever been to read more
