A bit overpriced but nice for a Saturday morning brunch! $8 for coffees and $20+ for all the dishes - you won't make it out of there for less than $35 per person which is a bit wild for Chico. I ordered the Train and I'm glad I spiced up the French toast that comes with it - the maple bacon French toast was pretty tasty. I don't know that this will be my go-to brunch spot since the food did not wow me, but I would like to check it out in the evening!

Really wish Café Coda had an online wait system. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes, though their cute outdoor area made the time pass pleasantly enough, even with inclement weather. The lattes are solid: rich, not watered down. My Café Ibarra was decadent but still balanced, not overly sweet or heavy. The pork belly breakfast sandwich was the standout: actual pork belly (not just thick-cut bacon), beautifully seasoned and softer than Billie Eilish's voice. The lemon ricotta on the blueberry French toast could've leaned more lemon-forward for my taste, but as a lemon gremlin (lemlin?) I might be in the minority here. The chilaquiles were another highlight--great corn flavor in the tortillas, punchy seasoning in every bite, and a nice kick from the habanero sauce on the table. Delicious sausage and eggs cooked to spec on the full boat. One black coffee was missed in the initial order but brought out immediately when flagged.

I came for a casual breakfast. I left in a committed relationship with the Wise Guy, don't tell my therapist. That pork belly? Tender like it listened to Sade all morning. The rice? Fluffier than my emotional support dog. I got a bite of my daughter's boyfriend's Chilaquiles was like a Latin soap opera in my mouth: spicy, dramatic, and oddly healing- he even ate the black beans. The bite of my daughter's chimichurri chicken sandwich whispered sweet herby nothings with every flavor. I considered eloping with it to a quiet cabin in the Redwoods with Cafe Coda, you didn't have to go this hard, but I'm so glad you did.

Realized I haven't reviewed this delish brunch spot, so today fixes that! Coda is a place for tasty food and strong coffee. Love that you can get a French press coffee in its own carafe. Today, I ordered the wise guy. Love the herbs and green onions with the steamed rice. The pork belly was tender with a sweet glaze on it. The soy/spicy peppers were a great addition. Hubs had his favorite lemon poppyseed pancakes. They were very lemony and the berry compote was better than syrup in my opinion! Love that there is inside and outside seating and the beer garden area is a relaxing place to wait.

Beautiful patio dining for a beautiful fall day! The breakfast burrito with chorizo is delicious. Excellent coffee. Excellent, friendly, professional service. 5 star all the way.

Chico Chai and a Matcha Latte

I absolutely love this place. I thought I put a review here for this restaurant but I guess I did not. My apologies. My wife brought me here to celebrate a huge accomplishment in my educational journey. We were happily greeted by wonderful service, a calm but active environment (everyone at different tables engaged in conversation), and the feeling that it was simply a good place to be. The menu was easy to read and anything we had questions on were answered by the person giving service. To this day, Café coda has the best chai latte I've ever had. It was warm, with just the right amount of sweetness and spices. Hands-down the best. The food came out warm and ready to eat. I cannot remember if we left with any leftovers because the food was so good and it was just nice to be able to be away for a little bit to enjoy time with my wife and celebration. Another cool feature that they had was a map in one of their back rooms to show where people were coming from that were visiting the area. Super cool place, great food, amazing service and as the kids say, "a vibe". Be sure to pay attention when you are driving to this restaurant because it can be easy to miss. Parking is available all along the streets but I believe they also have a parking lot which is not too far from their outdoor seating. We found parking just across the street which again was not too far. Definitely enjoy this place and will be visiting again very soon.

Cheers to a healthy shot!

In Chico, this is a great place for breakfast, lunch or to just a grab a healthy "shot " or a fantastic espresso coffee! The chicken sandwich with chimichurri was outstanding on the softest focaccia bread I've tasted in a long time! The fat boy breakfast makes you feel like you might be a "fat boy" in the serving size but you keep wanting to eat it all the way to the end. Great service by Owen and a wonderful place to start off your day!

Aloha from Hawaii and Space Oddity

I received several local recommendations for this place and decided to give it a try. Finding street parking was easy. We visited on an early Saturday afternoon, and while the place was bustling, the wait was surprisingly short. They took our name and gave us a buzzer to alert us when our table was ready. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We started with two drinks: the Space Oddity and the Aloha from Hawaii. Both were delicious! For our meal, we chose the Coda Benedict and the Chimichurri Chicken Sandwich. The Coda Benedict was particularly delightful, featuring parmesan focaccia bread instead of English muffins, which added a unique twist. The Chimichurri Chicken Sandwich served with a side of tomato soup, was also very tasty. Portions were large and in charge! The service was top-notch, with everyone being exceptionally kind. Highly recommend this place!

Shot of ginger, turmeric, citrus and other ingredients

I've been wanting to try this place and finally got the opportunity to do so, this place is hopping, even on a random Thursday mid-late morning. They have plenty of seating to wait and can seat you inside or out. The service is excellent, my host was lovely as well as my server, and checked on me frequently (but not too frequent or pushy), and helped me make decisions on their menu, which all sounds amazing. He HIGHLY suggested the shot (turmeric, ginger, citrus, cayenne and I'm missing something) which I had zero interest in, but turned out to really be quite good!!! I also had the honey lavender latte, LOVE. Thank you for someone doing this right in Chico! I just had to try the Coda Benedict with pork belly instead of ham. Other than needing to add a little bit of salt, this was excellent. And I live for potatoes so I was very excited to eat those crispy delicious potatoes. Will definitely be back!!

BLT sandwhich and tomato soup

Food and ambiance were great! It seems like this place is always busy but we were able to be seated within 20 minutes for a Sunday brunch, which isn't bad. Loved the lemon pancakes and the tomato soup. The sandwhich was tasty too. You get a lot of food for your money which is nice. Would go again!

We had kids with us, so we got there an hour before it became 21+. Everyone was friendly, the food came pretty quick relative to how hopping it was. We ordered: Pho-rench dip (w/fries)--I think this was a DDD sandwich, so it's not some hidden gem, but it was super tasty. You cannot go wrong. The slight lime-iness of the dipping broth really kicked it into turbo. Also, we all likes the steak fries--a note on that later. Chicken Cheese Steak (w/fries)--my wife loved it. I tried a bite, and it was great--a little mushroom-forward, but we like that. Mac and Cheese--do not be fooled by the slightly smaller bowl, it is very filling. My son can eat his birth weight in pasta, and he had to tap out! I tried a bite--it was creamy (not grainy at all), and was just the right amount of salty and cheese-funky. Grilled cheese and tomato soup (w/fries)--perhaps the least successful for my family, but only because my daughter prefers a smoky/spicy tomato soup, and this was more on the sweet side. The griled cheese was of the "crispy cheese on the outside" ilk, which my daughter thought was really good. So, totally would go again. IMPORTANT NOTE (to people traveling through Chico, or who don't want to take leftovers)--the sandwiches are pretty big, and the add-on fry order is also sizeable. If we were going again tomorrow, we would either order 1 fry instead of 3. Or split a sandwich. Very very good pub.

I know, I know, its a…read morecollege town, don't gripe about the college kids... but holy hell its nice to hang out with the grown ups sometimes! A couple of tips for the newbie adult headed to this VIP lounge: 1) Make sure to get your booty up there prior to 9pm (after 9pm there is a $10 cover charge) 2) $10 isn't going to break the bank, I get it however, it IS a key bit of info so take it for what its worth. (Its worth ten bucks, ha!) Make sure that if you should arrive before 9, like for happy hour, and stay after 9, that your given a wrist band so you can wander from floor to floor without having to pay the entry fee 3) If you get there prior to 9pm and have a person or people you actually want to speak (and not yell at) the music is at a normal level so carrying a conversation is tres easy. Beware, after 9pm they PUMP up the volume so be prepared to yell your conversation after that time frame kicks in 4) And speaking of 'tres' this bar is tres chic, there is a ton of cozy seating, you can go find a booth which is semi private or go more public and choose a table out in the open (along with more cozy seats) 5) They have an 'L' shaped pool table, very weird but very cool and ultra different. I've never seen one quite like it anywhere else 6) The martini selection is pretty tasty (see my pix) and the prices are right up my alley (marginally priced and well worth it) 7) The absolute BEST part of my experience here at the VIP Ultra Lounge was Stephanie. The adorable, extra friendly bartender/waitress, literally, the best little thing located upstairs. Her personality ROCKED. She gave me mini tour and being that it was my first time here, while she toured, she explained all the bars (total of 4), their highlights and best times to have fun at each of them. Seriously treated me in TOTAL VIP fashion, what a gem!! The cool thing about this bar is that its connected to 3 other totally different (un-VIP, just made up that word) bars. So... if you get tired of being a snobby VIP, you can take your wasty face downstairs and kick it with the college kids. Good thing #8... if your walking sideways and acting like a drunk monkey, you'll blend right in :) Dance, scratch your butt, do a shot then fall on the floor, hey! Have a good time!

Once you are past the cheapest drinks you can buy phase of Chico life, come up to VIP Ultra Lounge. Check 'em out during happy hour to scout if you like it without paying a cover. I enjoyed my melon mojito- with none of the stickiness or smell associated with most the venues in Chico. I get that Chico isn't used to paying much of a cover charge at all, but I'd rather pay a cover and go somewhere gorgeous, comfortable & clean. I used to love the Bear & LaSalles, but you go there after a few drinks because otherwise you'd never get past the smell and in the door. You can smell them from outside. Yuck. Other than harping on the fantasticness of a clean place- my husband has enjoyed his drinks there as well, we've had tacos and a steak/gorganzola pizza during happy hour- all good stuff. And that explains why I'm headed there in 40 minutes to celebrate the end of my work week!

The host told us they didn't have any roses but came out with a little bouquet! For the dinner part, we were expecting a little more. The complimentary cornbread wasn't great in our opinions, but I'm sure others may like it. It's clearly homemade and comes with 3 different butters to put on top. We ordered the Salmon and Smashburger and they were both definitely over priced for what it tasted like. The salmon didn't have a lot of seasoning so it sort of tasted like something we'd give our cat. The sweet potato's on that dish were also not the best. The smashburger, in my opinion, would've tasted better if I got it from In N Out across the street. The entire burger just tasted like meat..no seasoning and there was maybe a drop of their aioli on the burger so all in all it just wasn't the best. I would've had a better experience at In N Out. We also ordered the Wagyu meatballs and never received them. We thought it was taking a minute to cook but all we got instead was the check..he didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert. We had wanted to check out their dessert menu and possibly get their strawberry shortcake but I guess that wasn't in the cards for us. We also ordered a cocktail and mocktail. My wife's mocktail (Kava Mule) was great! My cocktail (Horchata Mai Tai) was genuinely the strongest drink I've ever had. The flavor was nice if you could get past the amount of Bacardi they poured in there. Every drink I took felt like I was taking a shot. So with all that being said, unfortunately we won't be returning to Rancher's Daughter. Between the bland and expensive food, the forgotten about meatballs, the check rushed to our table, and the drinks..it's just the not the place for us.

The starters were okay - cornbread was a very light texture and the butters that came with it weren't that good. The arancini was fine, just nothing too special but didn't come out very hot. The hummus didn't taste like much and came with a ton of bell peppers, Kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, and some pita. The turkey dinner was not good. The mashed potatoes and the turkey were okay. The root vegetable medley was not good and the stuffing was terrible, it was so mushy and weird.
