What a great find in Chico. Helpers always know the best places, so I'm glad I relied on you all! I ordered the cheddar and chive biscuits with sausage gravy and two over medium eggs. It was pretty darned good! I thought I would be getting cheddar chive biscuits, but really it was biscuits with chives dry on top and cheddar melted over that. It was still good, though. And the gravy was very flavorful. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I really wanted to try the French toast because it sounded fabulous. But it didn't come with eggs or meat. I wish there were an option for a smaller version of the sweet dishes so you can get both! The staff members were friendly and the restaurant was clean. This is a pretty cute place. The interior has charm to it. It was pretty early so it wasn't busy at all. The servers were very friendly and genuinely nice. We started with drinks I got a chai latte and my friend got the watermelon refresher, both enjoyable. Next time I'll get it without the sprinkled cinnamon on top. I got the roasted potatoes with carnitas and eggs. The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium which is my favorite. The potatoes were beautifully roasted while soft on the inside. The pico de gallo also seemed fresh and flavorful. My friend got the chicken and waffles and felt the chicken was well seasoned and crunchy while still tender. We shared the bam bam waffle, it was very sweet, the black berry sauce was a good tart taste to balance out all the sugar. I will say that although the food was delicious and fresh, the price was a little higher than expected. An extra side of syrup was $2 more. A side of eggs(2) was $5. I shared the receipt. All and all I'm glad we stopped here on our way back to Sacramento. Great food. read more

I normally take myself out to breakfast and sit alone on my days off. I was very excited to try this restaurant because of all the reviews. The food was good and the waitress was very sweet. Unfortunately the manager Mike was the one to bring my food out and decided to emphasize the amount of food I had ordered for myself, by saying "Got A LOT of good food here for you. Pretty good amount of food for just YOU". I didn't understand the need to point out that I ordered a 2 eggs, potatoes, sausage, and a waffle as "A LOT" of food. It was very rude, disrespectful, and awkward considering he said it loudly in front of other customers in the restaurant. read more

Wow wow wow - the breakfast at Deja Vu is such a level up from your typical breakfast haunts. I visit Chico a few times a year and I just love coming here. I truly look forward to it; their menu is thoughtful with lots of creative takes on typical breakfast fare and super fresh food with quality ingredients. I had the Strawberry French Toast and it's made with fresh baked artisan bread and the fruit tastes like it was picked from a garden. The service staff treat you like family and it really just feels like being invited to hang out for breakfast at a friends house--- that is, if your friend was an award winning chef. You can't talk about breakfast in Chico without bringing up Deja Vu! And up until this past weekend, I hadn't had to chance to experience it firsthand. I will say, I drive by often and it's always packed on weekend mornings... that's a good sign, right? Their menu is nowhere to be found online, so I only had an idea of what we were in store for based on Google and Yelp photos. We went on a Sunday morning around 10am, and waited about 15-20 mins for a table. Once sat, we were greeted promptly and continued to have impeccable service throughout the meal. If I could describe the menu generally, I'd say it's elevated takes on breakfast standards with an almost dessert-like twist... i.e. cookies & cream and cinnabun pancakes. I kept it standard by creating my own breakfast plate: 2 eggs, potatoes, and choices of meat and toast. The potatoes were phenomenal! I was surprised to receive 3 slices of bacon but only 1 slice of toast. I would've much rather had 2 and 2, and almost wondered if it was a mistake. I also would've loved if sugar/splenda was on the table, or automatically brought out if you order coffee. It was one more thing we had to ask for. It seems I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to breakfast, so Deja Vu probably won't be in my regular rotation... but I can certainly see why they stay busy! read more

Honestly enjoy this place every time I've been, which has been double digits by now. Good food (tasty with plenty of savory and sweet choices but not excessive options to make you overwhelmed.) Decent selection of mimosas, breakfast drinks and coffees. The decor is exactly my style; I love Alphonse Mucha, Rococo, Victorian era or even post Edwardian art. So the vintage look is too charming. Service is prompt but not hovering (for the introvert that is what I need, attentive but not swarming while I'm chatting or requesting an answer while I'm swallowing my food.) You'll get your refill or be tended to without being over monitored. I think the owner(?) is often on site and is always cordial and engaged/active in the care of the restaurant which shows integrity and the ethic in managing the establishment. Went to Deja Vu for the first time today, and we came in at the same time as a ton of people, was seated within 10 minutes still during a very busy period. Service was excellent and prompt, food took a while, as expected during peak times, drinks were very fast. Food/drink review: - Strawberry French Toast: I really wanted to like this, it looks fantastic, but I believe they used a baguette-like bread for it, so it was super chewy and has to be cut with a knife, not just your fork. Since this is a French themed restaurant (or so it seems by the decor) I'm not sure why they didn't use Brioche bread which is French. This really took away from the dish in my opinion, and it would be nice if they did a dusting of powder sugar on top, and provide additional syrup without asking as well. I personally wouldn't order this again. - Sunrise Mimosa: orange and cranberry mimosa, was very good! I asked for additional juice since I prefer a heavier juice based ratio. -Cappuccino: very very good! I would prefer if they brought out sugar without being asked. Would definitely go to this place again and try additional dishes. read more

I have enjoyed Deja Vu since they opened, and I can't say enough good things about the place, from the service to the food to the environment. The atmosphere is so fresh and eclectic, you can't help but feel the vibe while you're there. The food is fantastic; I have yet to be disappointed in anything I've tried, from the omelets to the pancakes. What's prompting me to leave this review, however, is the service, which shone brightly during an incredibly difficult time in my life. I came in with several coworkers; we were a party of five. We were seated immediately, and our server arrived promptly at the table to get our drink orders. She was extremely warm and friendly, but to be honest, we weren't. We had to keep asking her to come back because we could not seem to figure out what we wanted. After close to an hour, we finally placed our orders. The food came out quickly, but none of us could eat. We were mostly picking at the gourmet spooned on to our plates. It wasn't her fault--we were there because our beloved boss had died that day, and we were trying to honor her memory by doing what she wanted us to: eating good food at a great restaurant. The server, bless her, finally asked if there was anything she could do for us, in a way that suggested something other than bringing us another fork. Her compassion and empathy broke us--the tears started falling as one of us tried to explain that we had just lost someone and were grieving. She was fantastic--so kind and considerate to us during our time of need. I wish I could remember her name now, but it was honestly a blur of emotions that I still don't know how to express. She insisted on boxing all of our untouched plates and offered us hugs if we wanted then (we did). I should also mention this was five days before Christmas. She could have brushed off our experience in the glitz of the December rush, but instead, she met us where we were and seemed honored this was the place we had chosen to celebrate our boss. She made that loss a little less hard that day, and that mattered. read more

With all the wonderful options Chico has for brunch, it was exciting to see something new pop up. Deja Vu is a unique and tasty place to enjoy brunch out. While the menu is limited for gluten free people, the best thing on their menu just happens to be gluten free! I had the scrumptious carnitas breakfast and my friend had the Eggs Benedict. The sauce on the Benedict tasted like cheddar; not necessarily a bad thing, just different. Service was wonderful; we showed up at 9:30, no wait, it got busy around 10, it was the day after thanksgiving. The food is high quality and well made, I also love the decor; custom vintage looking advertising style prints make for a a quaint, almost steampunky vibe. Definitely worth a try. read more

Fabulous brunch today! The eggs Benedict were done perfectly, and the hollandaise sauce is light and not cloying. My potatoes were crispy and tasty, especially after adding the great hot sauce they provided. Our server, Sara, was brand new and on her first day at work.
