He worked with us throughout the planning stages of our reception, coordinating with the catering menu, and advising us on what to have at our open bar service. He also willingly accommodated us with our choice of toast (no champagne here) we got personalized shot glasses "Take a shot, we tied the knot." and when that time came, we shot whiskey instead. I went to their comedy show last night. I got there early because it is a very small bar and knew seating would be limited. Nearly everyone had to stand. The comics were all pretty funny, lots of big laughs. You cannot beat the price of $5. It really makes it possible to go to every show on a budget. Between that and a few drinks and tips you can easily end you night under the $20 mark which is the kind of Chico fun that is so fun! It was pretty clean. There was a fast line at the bathrooms which have seen better days but it's a bar so whatever. I'll be at the next show. read more

Dive bars are a passion. Some day I'm going to cash in the boatload of Delta Medallion Love I've amassed so I can tour the best of the best. And when I do, Duffy's will be a must do stop. After a long drive from The Perfect that is San Francisco, I needed to find a place to suck up the local Chico culture, to get a handle on what faced me for the week. A quick Yelp Check said I gotta do Duffy's Tavern, so off I went. For me, the key factor in a Perfect Dive bar is the mix of humanity, and more importantly, the speed with which I can get into some serious Dive Bar Conversation. Duffy's hit the clock at about 5 seconds. SCORE! First for the logistics. The wait staff is superb, attentive, and prompt. My glass was never empty. When I initially asked for the selection of IPA on tap, the answers came swiftly and accurately. What could be better? The ambience is pure Dive Bar Exquisite. Don't change a thing. Ever. The mix of humanity was off the chain. Chico hipsters with PBR? Check. Regular working Joes in to watch the game on the huge number of televisions? Check. Interesting stories and conversations? Check. My Giants were on two televisions in an epic struggle against the Nationals, the locals were all aglow in Orange. We talked sports. We talked trash. It was if I was already one of The Boys. For an East Coaster that spends way too much time on airplanes, this whole atmosphere gave me a sense of home, a sense of belonging. A sense that I was one of them. And that is way too rare these days. Thanks, guys, I had a blast. If you are from out of town and wondering how to spend an hour or two in Chico, think no more and point your mode of transport towards Duffy's, you will not be disappointed. After a minute or two, you will no longer feel like you are a patron at a bar, but rather a newly found friend with stories to share. 5 Stars and it hits the Must Do List. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to Chico. The bouncer, Israel continued to come onto me despite being friends with my fiancé. The more I ignored and rejected him, the more stalker-ish he became. Another man here kept elbowing me while I had my drink, I got upset and looked towards Israel to have my back and he asked us all to leave. The next week, he said me and my fiancé weren't welcome here together. I came again a few weeks later, the bartender I knew poured my drink and Israel asked me to come outside, and said I wasn't welcome here anymore. Claiming I yelled at him when I couldn't come here with my fiancé... I did not yell. I asked if the owner had made the decision since I was a regular. It was completely not right and since this is a town staple he has really impacted my life. read more

I Duffy's! Everybody is super friendly, they have a great selection, and the priced are spot on. The first time I visited I was visiting for a week to house hunt before our move here. They didn't mind me sitting at the bar using their WiFi and sipping beers. An employee brought in some take out they got for their lunch and even offered a bit to me. I've been back multiple times since then. My boyfriend and I went for a Beetles vinyl happy hour, and that was lots of fun! It drew in a really cool crowd and the atmosphere there was just right for it all. I have a feeling Duffy's will become my go-to spot when I need to dip out away from the world's stresses for a drink or two. read more

As a professional drinker , story wrangler and shooting the shit artist one thing you can tell about the quality of a place is the respect the locals give to each other and the visitors that join them in libation . Duffy's is an epic dive bar with a great juke box, cold ass AC, cold ass beer, cool ass patrons and mother fuckin cheap prices . Let me state on the record, that I have never been to Duffy's when I was 100 % sober so my review might be a little drunkenly biased. That being said I love DUFFYS! The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 out of 5 is because recognize its a slight acquired taste and the drinks can be pricey if you don't do the deals. PBR is cheap, cheap, CHEAP and seriously who doesn't love PBR? I also love the vintage juke box and great selection of beats! I love the dive bar feel and the fact that not all the girls are in short skirts and not everyone is a young CSUC student! I would recommend Duffys to those who are looking for a chill, low-key environment to hang out in where you won't get hassled much! Also its rumored Paul Zingg goes there to grade papers! What would I do without Friday evening trad music sessions at Duffy's? The Pub Scouts totally rock, and never fail to bring the spirit of Ireland to the bar every week. I spent a year in Limerick, studying Irish dance and music, and I can tell you that the Pub Scouts can bring it on. They always open up a bit of space for me to dance in, making it the highlight of my week. Duffy's itself is awesome. It's down-to-earth and seems totally at ease with being just what it is: a bar. If you're looking for a chic club with fancy drinks and pretentious people, Duffy's is not for you. But if you're just looking to meet up with some friends for a drink and some good music, and even meet new friends, this is your place. I'm just waiting for the right time to buy my very own Duffy's t-shirt. read more

The key, as noted by others already here, is that Duffy's has by far the best crowd in town. You dont have to be a beatnick, or a theater gal. You dont have to be indie or wanna-be-intellecutal. Just be your self, jesus. Is it really that hard? If you are just a normal human being, and you be yourself, you are a welcome member of the Duffy's crowd. Generally, this is the only bar in town where i actually found myself getting into conversations with strangers... be it about beers, or classes, or whatever. This is just that sort of place, and it seems that all the interesting people i met in Chico always enjoyed Duffy's. Theres a good correlation there. The bar tenders are awesome, they remember you if you tip well, its not as redonkulously loud as Normal or LaSalles, and its got good people. AND I hear they have Hard-A now. Go already. read more

I grew up in Chico but moved to the Wine Country before I came of legal drinking age. This weekend I lived out a long-held dream: I had a Goose and soda with my cousin at Duffy's. Okay, I had two. Or was it three... Duffy's pulls off being a dive bar without being terribly dirty and scary. And that, my friends, is a delicate balance that I truly appreciate. People were friendly, bathrooms were reasonably clean, and the drinks were probably expensive in comparison to other places in Chico but about right for where I come from. Oh, and the door guy was nice and even suggested what "signature" Duffy beverages I should have since it was my first visit. Nice kid. Duffy's will be my new go-to bar when I'm in Chico. read more

Augh! Love/hate/love/hate/drink/hmm/awesome/crowd/shot... and so it goes on and on here. I love the crowd when it's the people I like, and I know a lot of regulars there. Unfortunately a lot of people I really don't like are regulars there. Hmmm... The drinks are really strong, but hey, most would be in those chintzy little glasses they give you. Don't really seem like they're worth the money, but they're not crazy expensive. Hmmmmmm... The atmosphere is dank, which I like. Sometimes. I like ironic stuff I think. Or maybe I hate it. Best Jukebox in town. Most eclectic crowd. Washed up alcoholic attorneys and unemployed contractors discussing politics by day: hipsters, addicts and other assorted weirdos talking about themselves at night. Check out one of three co-Ed restrooms where no one bothers to lock the door, ever. Cleanest is in the back by the pool tables. They used to be covered in sticker art but have been repainted and stickers are sadly being removed regularly. Decent shows on occasion, and the live Irish music on Fridays is fun for 30 minutes, though it lasts for hours. read more

I'm not cool enough nor do I think myself more intelligent than everyone else... I also don't like hiking my pants up to my knees to wade through waste and water to squat over unisex toilets. The staff is nice, I am not a fan of a lot of the clientele. The place often reeks of a combination of vomit, cat box and arm pit. An interesting mix but disgusting at any rate. ah, duffy's! this place holds a firm place in my drunken heart! my brother was playing summer ball and would end up in chico during the season. the boyfriend and i would head out, support him, hang out with our cousin and have a blast. our cousin had friends that worked at duffy's so off we went. the drinks are great. the prices are even greater. the atmosphere was chill and i laughed harder than i have in a long time. the backroom became my home away from home. there is awesome people watching and you make new friends in a matter of minutes. live music is cranking up the volume in the front. there's no attitude and nothing but fun. make sure you pick up a shirt to wear proudly and savor the memories. and when you're done drinking, walk out, turn to the right and hit up the pizza joint next door. i suggest the pesto slice. pure, pure heaven. read more

As far as Dive Bars go, this one has every element. Drinks are strong and cheap. There a jukebox and sometimes a DJ or small band. Theres a back room, booths, tables and it's dark inside. In the summer the AC is ON POINT. read more
