All the staff that work here seem to have some sort of complex and extremely fragile egos. Bar staff and bouncers are extremely rude and won't give you the time of day if you're not a younger looking woman. Last time I went here, the bartenders and bouncers called my friends multiple different slurs before chasing them out of the establishment while trying to physically assault them. Called the cops and was told that this is unfortunately a common occurrence and that multiple reports against the bar have been made in the past. SO much fun! We went to Riley's 2 weeks back for our sons fraternity parents weekend. This is a great bar (love the napkins that have the cute checkboxes on them for meeting people). Of course - someone had to ring the bell at the bar which means the person ringing the bell has to buy EVERYONE in the bar a shot. THAT got the people screaming with happiness & made him the most popular guy in the room. Horrible, would give 0 or negative stars if I could. I was avoiding a creepy guy who was waiting outside (I assume because *he* got kicked out). I was asked to leave well before 2, I explained my situation and they did not care. I was simply waiting for my Uber. I fought back, and the door guy did leave me alone for a few minutes. I then heard a bartend call out to him "stop being a little bitch" and then he came back and told me I needed to leave immediately. Because I saw how emasculated, degraded, and belittled they treated their very staff to then treat their patrons (again, avoiding a creepy and potentially dangerous situation outside), I feel not only anger and disgust but genuine pity. Riley's is the worst bar I've ever been to. The hospitality is absolutely awful...my friend and I were waiting for an Uber and they told us we had to wait outside, even though they let select few patrons stay inside. The bartender literally laughed at us when we asked why we had to wait outside. I will always remember this as an awful place and I would never recommend it to anyone. They grabbed me aside right after I brought them the empty glasses from a table, and proceeded to kick me out without any other reason than "fuck off, get out of here right now." I waited in their 40 minute line to be greeted by a bartender (looked 28 years of age, scruffy beard, darkend eyes) that told me to go away, and made sure other bartenders wouldn't tend to me, and wouldn't serve anybody else until I reached the right pillar of the bar stand. After 2 drinks I went to the bar with our tables empty glasses, then a bulky man with a flashlight grabbed my left arm and told me to get out! I asked why I was being escorted put of the bar, and he replied "because they said" and proceeded to jab and push me through the crown and line entering the bar. After I asked again why I couldn't be let in they replied "looks like you're out of luck, try again another night dude." This is describtion of sad, kicking out a sober person for helping you guys out in the overall run. Riley's is really a great spot, the food is good, drinks are well made and the service is top notch. The Happy Hour here is one of the best I've ever seen. How great is it? New customers are often just stunned at the low prices, you won't find a better happy hour anywhere in California. Typically I will visit Riley's at the beginning of the Fall semester - I'm a mid 80''s Chico grad - so I like to see the new gal bartenders that were hired over the summer. These gals that work at Riley's always look like runway models, and they keep getting more spectacular looking every year, to the point where your eyes pop out of your sockets. Typically my buddies and I will pile into my vintage convertible in late August to make the trek to Riley's, we usually arrive about 1 pm . After we arrive we park the convertible right on the side of Riley's, across from Ike's Sandwich shop. Usually when we arrive we're honking the horn, were laughing, we're always in a good mood because we know were going to have some fun, we know we're going to PARTEE at Riley's! We always try and park close to Riley's because were so old now; one of my buddies uses a walker, the other guys - two of my old frat buddies - have become seriously obese, so fat they tip the scales at 400 plus, at least. (they are famous for breaking chairs in bars). I myself have problems hearing, and I also had a foot amputated a few years ago, so all of us are really a mess - from a physical standpoint. In fact, we are such a motley crew often times when we go to a bar together the whole bar will come to a stop when we walk in the door - the bartender will then announce, " We're just closing now". While that happens at many bars we go to, it never happens at Riley's. At Riley's we always get the royal treatment, the pretty gal bartenders usually will dash out behind the bar when we arrive and they start right in with the hugs, the high fives, and they will say stuff like, "Where have you guys been, you guys just make this bar when you come!". I mean were old, were using walkers, we can't hear very well anymore. yet we get treated like visiting movie stars at Riley's. Riley's service - the bars appreciation for their customers - even elderly customers from the 80's who have fallen on hard times - is just never ending. If anybody is wondering why Kevin Riley owns half of Chico now - it's service - the guy knows how to lay out the red carpet for his customers. Kevin never forgets his customers either, even those from the 80's (many believe he has a photographic memory). Regardless of how old you are, it just feels good to hang out at Riley's. In fact, we always put that James Brown song on the juke box when we go to Riley's, the one that starts out with " Whoa, I feel good, like I new that I would". Yes, that song sums up Riley's perfectly, you always feel good at Riley's, and even better after knocking down kamikaze's and wolfing down those mouth watering cheese burgers. Chico may be a crummy backwater ex- farm town in the middle of nowhere, but Riley's is heaven on earth, the bar just rocks. read more

College student talking...I've only been here at night for their specials. Cheap alcohol not just in price but also quality during their special nights, which being in a college town is just pretty alright. Tuesday = buck night, Thursday = power hour (9-10pm) and Friday = $4 well pitchers. This is one of the main college hangouts during the evenings. Mostly filled with Greek associated members. Overall it's clean, most bartenders are pretty nice and pour well. During Sundays they have champagne brunch which has a meal and unlimited mimosas for $12. Not a bad deal and the breakfast was actually pretty good. At the end of every Spring they have an opportunity for all graduating Seniors to earn a Riley's sash by signing up and completing a set of 30 or so tasks, which includes attending several of their Specials nights and buying food during the day. This is pretty much my weekend watering hole and I always have a good time. Music choice is alright. Usually hit or miss and it's always wall to wall crowded on Fridays, but usually worth it. read more

I'm from the Bay Area the land of 15 dollar cups of ice and soda with tiny portion of your favorite alcohol. Here at rileys the bartenders are generous so always tip them out (your getting a freaking bargain) I always make new friends at Rileys some I remember others I don't lol. It's impossible to not have a great time on a Thursday at this place . You can literally take a seat and people watch some funny stuff happen left and right lol . This is THE trashiest bar in Chico now that Lasalles is closed haha. Smells like puke and one time they almost didn't let me in because they said I looked too drunk and I only had 2 drinks! They ended up letting me in because I was there to find my Mom and they know her. They are very rude there and all the hood rats of Chico hang out here. Definitely not a hang out and chill type of bar. Definitely for college girls and college boys that want to get hammered for cheap and don't care what the outcome is. Lots of fights happen there too. It's hard for me to talk shit on Riley's because you know what you are going to get every time you go...its a steady college bar that is always packed with loud music and people trying to have fun and drink cheap booze.. ...The people who gave this place 1 star must be either lying to themselves and don't like fun or they are being way too self righteous...you go to college in Chico!! deal with it!! You aren't better than anyone else here..if you were you would have gone to a different school!!! The only thing that I can knock on Riley's are the waitresses during the day that have their nose up so high in the air when they are walking around giving you $5 pitchers of Sierra Nevada and overrated hamburgers. They are all usually really mean or act so fake when they are serving As a matter of fact last time I was at Riley's one of the waitresses Natalie was her name I believe, served us and had pretty decent service besides forgetting my order of wings, but everything turned sour quick when she got pissed at us for having a tab at the bar.(meaning she probably wouldn't get as much in tips) but she walked about 10 feet away after she found out and starting talking shit about us loud enough for us to hear...its like HOW HARD IS YOUR JOB?!!! Riley's brings back many fond and terrible memories of my college experience. I can remember many a night, stumbling in to Riley's after a mixer, getting [even more] wasted on less than $5 and finding some random frat boy to have a little MO session with. Ahhh those were the days. Cut to last weekend, 6-8 years later, while my friend and I try to relive a little college experience and realize that we are WAY past our prime for this place. I turned to her as I watched an annihilated 22 year old boy stumble around the bar spitting profanities and grabbing women's asses and said, "Ryn, we're not spring chickens anymore." This is hands down the worst bar in Chico. They play their music so loud that you must yell in people's faces just to have a conversation with them. Not just at night either. I just went back three years after I graduated and decided to give it another shot...but it still sucks. Same lame frat boy crowd and slutty girls. Watch out for the ones that sit on top of the booths...they think they are better than everyone. Bathrooms are gross. Rileys is the Disneyland of College Bars. The plaque on the door couldn't be anymore true "Enter as strangers, Leave as Friends". It's pretty much the squad's Thursday-Friday- Saturday (Power-Hour, Pitchers, Tea Party) ritual to go to Club R and get as wasted as possible as fast as possible. Your dignity stays at the door: the floor is sticky, the air is raunchy, the bathroom is something out of a horror movie, and the drinks are lethal. The outcomes after a night at Rileys are not remembering a single thing (until checking snapchat), zombie walking over to Tacos Mary or Frankys, or getting it in. The only way to get kicked out is by passing out at a table, acting like a freshman, creeping too hard, finding a way to piss off half the bar, or because it's 1:30 in the morning and bars are forced to close. The only way to get poor service is by trying to fight the staff after they have asked you to chill out or leave a generous amount of times, being a cheap ass and not tipping on insanely cheap drinks, and not knowing what you want to order when they finally get to you (it's not that hard, pick an alcohol and pick a Fruit/Soda, the crowd favorites are Whisky/Coke or vodka/cran). Be patient and DO NOT try to bulldoze your way to the front of the bar, it will make everyone hate you, including the bartenders. If you do manage to safely bulldoze your way to the front, don't bark orders and wave money at the bartenders. They have a packed house of college kids that want to trade their money for drinks, wait your turn or you will be purposely skipped. Lastly, if you can't have a fun time at Rileys, then you are probably a boring and horrible person and you should stay home and keep your negative attitude away from the bars. read more

Whilst in Chico, a friend of mine took me to Riley's for $5 pitchers of you-call-its. Prices like that for a huge pitcher of you-call-its can only be found in drunk college towns, so why wouldnt I take full advantage?! Already 5 shots in, I strolled into Riley's with vodka on the brain. My girlfriend and I got two vodka soda waters, both of which had at least 4 shots of vodka each. Riley's is all sorts of terrible. It looks like it was built out of a hollowed out Applebees from 1981. The people that pack the place will probably make you want to claw your eyes out. It gets absolutely slammed and is always understaffed with bartenders, so get ready to stand for a good while shoulder to shoulder, cash in hand. Theres only one reason to ever, ever, EVER go to Riley's and thats power hour, a true thing of beauty. There really isnt much more enjoyable in life then walking back to your table with ARM FULLS of 50 cent double rum and cokes. That alone gets Riley's 2 stars. Other than thursday power hour? The good: Definitely a fun, lively, and crowded bar. There is no cover charge to get in. The drink prices are really cheap. Tuesday's are $1 and Friday's are $5 for a pitcher. They play good music and it's my favorite bar in Chico. The bad: The bar always smells like spilt beer. The bathrooms are usually dirty. This is my second time visiting Chico, and I had a horrible time here. I waited in the line for a drink for about 30 minutes while the bartender Abby skipped us multiple times and continued to help the guys that filled in way after us. She treated my friends and I horribly and i would hope that no other girls attended this bar due to her rudeness. She continuously told us "fuck you" and then had my friend and I escorted out of the bar for simply asking a question.
