Except for the parking I loved this place for months. The parking sucked and there was only popcorn for snacking but the bar is good and the staff was lovely. The people were friendly, the crowd welcoming. I was a regular patron who enjoyed the atmosphere 2-3 nights a week. I came for the Karaoke. SIL had 2 hosts until recently. I like them both but a week or so ago one was "let go". This was done without notice, without considering what effect this might have on its clientele. OK, people lose positions all the time, right? Yeah, but the way they did it, their lack of loyalty, both to the KJ and to us their patrons who were not allowed one last night to say goodbye, that dismissal showed us all that WE were disregarded. Horrible parking! No, horrible isn't the correct word, abysmal is. The people are friendly, and the lighting is adequate, but not great. I'm not a fan in the sudden change that was made, with absolutely zero explanations, to the karaoke aspect. I used to love coming to this establishment. But tonight a couple of my friends and I were having a conversation and minding our own business and the bartender asked us to take our conversation away from the bar because he didn't agree with what we were talking about. Talk about infringing on the 1st amendment. And we weren't loud, obnoxious, or picking a fight with anyone. We're a peaceful group. So unfortunately we won't be coming here again and neither will many others when they find out about the level of judgemental and opinionative people that are working here. read more

Great dive bar! Cheap drinks, great jukebox, and awesome locals! What more can you want? They have lots of room to roam inside plus a little patio out back. The bathrooms are clean and fairly graffiti-free. If you've outgrown the downtown scene, I'd recommend this bar. They have live music, good drink prices, and interesting patrons. The bartenders are personable and enjoy a good chat if the night isn't too busy. Patio has a nice Hawaiian theme to it. At night its lit up and fun to hang out. Around 1am it gets interesting. The middle aged cougars have hit the blackout threshold. Prepare to be groped a few times and have an invasion of personal space, but in a nice cigarette breath slurred speech kind of way. This place is still the best dive bar with live bands and the most reasonable cocktail prices in Chico. I enjoyed dancing here when I was in my late twenties as much as I do now at age fifty. The bathrooms are clean, the bartenders are lovely and kind and the patio is idyllic and peaceful. Halloween and New Years are so festive and such a blast. I'm back at the Studio Inn. They are very hospitable and caring regarding service dogs. Even though it got started on a rough beginning, they definitely made up for it. We patched things up, and this is my new bar to come to. The staff were very attentive to my needs, and treated me like an individual . The drinks are strong and cheap. My husband and I are new to Chico and decided to pop in here after dinner for a couple of drinks. To our delight, it was karaoke night! (They have karaoke Tuesdays and Sundays, I learned.) The white russian I ordered was delicious and the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, I've grown accustomed to being snubbed at a bar when I'm not a regular. But the servers here made me feel right at home. The patrons are a mixed bag, which is awesome-old, young, and everything in between. We can't wait to return! read more

The worst waitress in history works here (hopefully she is gone by now - its been a week and she clearly did not want to be there!) We sat at a table and waited about ten minutes and nobody approached us. No big deal, maybe they didn't have table service so I started to get up and go to the bar. Just as I did a waitress approached. It was early on St. Pats day (around 4pm) and while there was a small crowd it was far from busy. So far we are fine. I order my wife and I Titos martinins and my son orders the St. Pats special drink that was on the table card that was on every table in the place. The waitress responded, "What is that?" We showed her the card and she read it for what was clearly the first time. Alright, a miss but still no big deal. It took over ten minutes to get our drinks and when I sipped mine I realized that they were made "dirty". I said, these are dirty, we did not order dirty martinis. Her response was, you got what you ordered and she walked off! I went to the bartender and explained that we did not order dirty martinis we ordered Tito's martinis. The bartender said the waitress had specified dirty but she apologized and said she would remake them. We waited another 10 minutes and the waitress brought us the replacement drinks, sat them on the table and walked away. Not a word! So we finished our drinks and since we had spent 20 minutes waiting for drinks, we had to leave. We started trying to waive at the waitress to get our check. She completely ignored us for 5 minutes. My son finally got up and went to her at the bar and told her we need our check. She brought the check, slapped it onto the table and again walked away without a word. I'm a tipper. I normally leave 20%+. I leave 15% for poor service. Once in awhile I have left 10% when a wait person really was rude. This is the first time ever that I left a zero tip. Just horrible! read more

I wish I could give less stars. I've been there twice with friends and both Evening bartenders have been terribly rude at some point. I've always treated others kindly and am the sober driver. The first time was just not great. The second time was just unacceptable. I am hoping the owner or manager sees this and contacts me. If not I will be filing a formal complaint. For background I'm a medical professional who never drinks very much . I take care that my friends get home safely. The recent experience was unacceptable. We were dressed nice having fun, dancing etc. My friend just lost her mother and has been going through it. She had two glasses of wine only , but was a bit out of it due to emotions etc. She WAS NOT disruptive just sitting. I was giving her water but also making a joke of it , so she laughed but pushed the cup of WATER and it flung it so it sprayed a across the floor a foot in front of us. The bartender came up and said " if you pull that shit again , I'll kick you out." I was working on cleaning it up and told her it was water but I understand and I will make sure she doesn't. I apologized. Immediately the other bartender ( both were older women in Saturday night.) goes to security and escorts her out without asking her to leave and after the one said it was a warning. So I made sure I had her purse and keys and asked about the bill to close, while I waited the other bartender came to me and said I had ri leave. I asked why initially even though I was trying to settle out and she said I "was argumentative " the only arguing is saying there's nothing I've done to be kicked out and I never have been asked to leave anywhere." I couldn't even finish that I was getting the bill, she walked off . She went to the security guard and while I was waiting for the check grabbed my purse and said I had to leave. I was mortified I was not loud or rude I was finishing my water while I waited. I told him I did nothing and he kept saying " your being argumentative " finally the other waitress came up with the check which I showed to him that I was waiting for and he just kept repeating himself. Being unruly in public is not worth my career or reputation. Security touching me was not acceptable, Security was also staring in our direction the entire night and it made. E uncomfortable. My friend is beautiful And we get attention from people. That's the only reason I can find that they would use as a reason to treat us in that manner. Never have had any kind of altercation with anyone in my life. they treated me poorly for no reason. Truly no reason. To be clear when my friend flung the water I didn't argue with them escorting her out it was their reaction with me as I'm trying to make sure we actually paid because I have integrity. It was unbelievable and I would like to be contacted by the owner/manager or I will take this further. Thank you. read more

The bar has a dark, intimate atmosphere that is great to either start or end any date night. If you are hungry, Priya will deliver to the bar. I felt obligated to cancel out the old geezers 1 star review because he couldn't get some sleep. The staff are all absolutely awesome, they all do a great job! The reason for the low rating is the owner or someone fills the top shelf alcohol bottles with the cheap stuff! I have been drinking my specific Vodka for years and can easily taste the difference. I watched the bartender make my drink, the label on the bottle was definitely not what was in it. read more

Dave and Wendy are the best. The regulars are great and Karaoke and stand up comedy are always a great time. The drinks aren't as cheap as the bars downtown but they sure are a lot stronger. The long island will definitely knock the most seasoned drinker on their butt. For being considered a dive bar, it is very clean and friendly.
