Been going to the "O" for 50 years now. Found it back in 1975...It was the place to hang in my college days. Stacy became the owner around 1976. The 'O' was smaller back then, but they expanded and added lots of pool tables and raised the roof. BEST BURGERS in town! And Monday night is '2 for price of 1' Burger Night (that also goes back 50 years). The 'O' (Oasis Bar and Grill) is essence of Chico...I am old now but hope to keep headed to the 'O' for another 10 or 20 years. Love the place. Kim was friendly and helpful. I got the hamburger and chicken strip basket. Both were good. It's a darling bar with great atmosphere. Lots of pool tables and TVs and a few video games. They even have James Bond Dr. No. I asked for no onions on my burger. And it had onions. I picked them off, but it is a common mistake that I wish people would pay more attention to. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was there Friday night playing pool, and they held my ID for the pool balls. When I went back to return the balls, I gave the bartender my name so he could grab my ID for me. Unfortunately I just put it back in my wallet without checking it. Found out the next day that I was given someone else's ID, with a completely different name. I get accidents happen, but it still sucks. Unfortunately for me, I live an hour away from here, so I called to make sure they have my ID before driving all the way back. When I asked the person on the phone if it's there, all he said was, "I'm not checking right now", then hung up. Literally nothing else was said. I get that it may have been busy when I called, but there are better ways to handle that situation. read more

I come to the Oasis for affordable delicious beer, the best tater tots man--and maybe the gods--can produce, high quality sound from the juke box, and alot of space so I can grab a corner and work on my lap top with the good wifi. The veggie burger is decent and yes, subject to 2 for 1 burger Mondays. It is a blue collar man's bar I guess up to the point college kids or big groups arrive in joyous throngs. Regulars are friendly and the crowd is diverse. Peggy is my favorite bartender. I still think Stacey should make a woman's corner and have Oxygen or Own running on its TV. read more

Giving this place 3 stars was a mistake, best dive bar in Chico, cheap and fun

This went from my favorite dive bar in Chico, to a place I will never go to again. This place used to have cheap drinks, fried food, free pool, free shuffleboard, ping pong, beer pong, music, and glitter tattoos in the sticker machine. We went there last week after a few years of living away, and now you have to pay by the hour to rent the pool tables, they got rid of the shuffleboard (which was my favorite part), I paid $8 for a little tiny well martini DURING HAPPY HOUR (this is what I expect to pay in the bay area, but for Chico, that's quite a rip off). I put 2 quarters in the glitter tattoo sticker machine and nothing came out. ripoff. not coming back any longer. Sorry, we will never again be "O-bound." read more

I love the burgers at the "O", it's the employees that made me rate this place 2 stars. I have been eating at the O for 4 years (and 35 years ago when I went to Chico State) and the burgers are awesome.... Fresh meat and cooked very nicely. However every employee I have encountered at this place has been unfriendly or plain rude. I am thinking it must be a requirement to work there. To the owner.... I love the burgers so I put up with the employees, but not everyone feels the same way. My wife will not go to the place. PS. I love your pictures. Alright this is my 3rd update! I'm now madly in love with the burgers here! Best flavor in all of Chico. The burgers are fresh and delicious!!! Not even Nobby's burgers have flavor this good. If you haven't had a burger here, you need to. I feel like I've been cheated out of years of my life for not knowing these delicious burgers existed. Don't let the looks of this place fool you. I always skipped this bar although I live super close to it just because it doesn't look like your typical college scene. The good news--it's not. In a good way. They have cheap drinks, a good beer selection, bar food, and LOTS of games to play including pool and shuffle board. Clean, comfortable, and great staff. This is a great place to catch a game and have a drink. I love the prices of the drinks and the choices of beer that are there. They do have wine and cider there for those who can't have Gluten. Their burgers are amazing and the cooks are willing to wrap the burgers in lettuce if need be. In total there are 7 pool tables. 6 of them are pay by hour and one of them is .75 a game. They do have a ping pong table as well. I love the fact that there is karaoke on Wednesdays and FREE pool on Sundays. :) read more

If you're one of those strange people who goes to Chico State but hates dealing with shit like 'Power Hour' or any bar filled with v-necks and fohawks, then this is the place for you. Unlike its Chico bar bretheren, The Oasis is almost never crowded, which means no waiting in line for drinks, and no macho men trying to out-douche one another for the affection of liquered up and plastically enhanced females. It's just real Chico people, drinking and having a good time. Here is a list that covers just a few of the awesome things the Oasis has going for it: 1. Closest bar to campus not called The Bear (it's right behind the new WREC center) 2. BEST Jukebox in Chico! Anytime you go to 'The O' you are almost guarenteed to hear at least one song by Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Zeppelin, and Garth Brooks. ABSOLUTELY NO TECHNO HOUSE BULLSHIT! 3. The O Burger is one of the best in town, and might be the most affordable as well. 4. Great place to meet people who have great stories. This place has got a nice collection of folk from every age group, and almost every one of 'em has got a story to tell. 5. It's the most historically significant bar in Chico. This was THE greek bar at Chico State in the 60's and early 70's, as evidenced by all the old greek life memoribilia that they still have on display across the bar's ceiling. 6. There is lots of fun shit for you and your friends to do whildst putting back a couple of cold ones. Six or seven pool tables, and ping pong table, and FREE TABLE SHUFFLEBOARD!! 7. They have a great staff that treat their regulars like family. 8. Best place in Chico to watch sports. They've got 12-15 huge HDTV's with every sports package you could ever want. It's exactly the type of place I like to go these days. We sat at the left side of the bar, and the bartender never even looked our direction. After 10 minutes, we just left. I love this bar! Friendliest bar staff in Chico, without a doubt, feels like a very welcoming family! You always feel welcome here. There is a lot to do to quench your entertainment needs. However, the food I don't trust unless your starving. The building is old and in need of dire maintenance. I've been hitting the Oasis since attending Chico State in the late 90's. Love the atmosphere; Old sorority and fraternity pics from the old days. Drinks are pretty inexpensive but the food can be a mixed bag depending on who's cooking. They make hand made patties with good beef but 50 percent of the time the burgers are very rare. Like it may make u sick rare. Their steak fries are fantastic though, as are the onion rings. So much potential but damn hire a cook that knows what they're doing. Rare burgers suck! read more

I use to love this place until the Bar Tender got drunk and insulted me for tipping too small. My tab was 40 and I tipped 12, he proceeded to say "That's it?" And after I said sorry that's all I had he sent a friends to accuse me of not tipping. A 12 dollar tip is very generous for a 40 dollar tab. read more

It's a little pricy for Chico, but not too bad. It's great for the free ping pong and shuffleboard. On Sundays there is free pool. My favorite thing is the jukebox, which has a great selection of classic rock and some newer rock and a little country. read more
