To celebrate two birthdays, a group of 8 of us visited the Backyard last night. From the time we were shown to a comfortable cabana, to our departure when the owner offered to take our photo, it was PERFECT. The ambient music was just right, all the gentlemen who served us and bussed the table were friendly and attentive, the food was so fresh and delicious, the bathroom CLEAN! They treated us to churro fries in honor of the birthdays. You can tell CUSTOMER SERVICE MATTERS! There is plenty of space, and the bar area is careful to make sure everyone is eating and complying with COVID guidelines. The bartender was happy to make suggestions and steer us in the right direction (spot on). Highly recommend, will be coming back for a date night! read more

Came here with a few friends, after one of them had come the day before with only positive reviews. I ordered the $20 lobster roll and got a hotdog bun with a sad amount of meat. My friend had said that she had regretted not ordering the lobster roll the day before instead of the lobster Mac and cheese, that it was served on a large roll and looked so good. Today their game must have been sorely lacking. The small snack sized sandwich that I got that also happened to include a good sized shell (bonus ?). Our group also ordered the Pork Belly fries/nachos. While we were waiting to order wine/beer and were informed they ran out of pork belly but would replace with meatballs (!?!?) we inquired if there were any other meat options, and were told fried chicken. There was not other options (such as a refund) offered. The fried chicken seriously looked like meat that had been under a heat lamp for who knows how long, and from the frozen foods section.. gross fries were also swimming in some questionable cheese and water substance. I hear this is the place to be, but after today's experience I'm not sure. They have a good beer and wine selection, fun atmosphere... but they need to get their stuff together on the food. If you runout of things, please just close your kitchen rather than selling crappy subpar over priced foods!! Seriously. We went on their opening day, and it was busy but not packed. You order your drinks at a stand, and pick from a list. Our bartender didn't have recommendations and just stared at us waiting to pick. She let us try as many as we needed but it would've been nice if she could've given us some recommendations! The water jugs all around were empty or almost empty and warm. Very little shaded seating besides the picnic tables. We had to sit on the couches which were comfy but started to get sunburnt. The food situation is strange as well, you have to order separately from where you get drinks. Wish we would've had a better experience, but I will definitely take my business to other breweries in the area. If you're going to go, don't get food and go at sunset! read more

We arrived in Paso and saw that the Backyard was finally open, so we decided to stop by for lunch. It's such a great idea and a cute spot (that's why they get 1 star) and then we tried the food. We split a Fried Chicken Sandwich and Shoestring Fries. We tried to order a Diet Coke and a Coke Zero, but all they have is Mexican Coke. No thanks. When we sat at the picnic tables we noticed a place to get beverages. They just had beer, some wine, and Kombucha. I'm not a Millenial, OK. I hate Kombucha! How hard is it to offer Diet Coke? C'mon! The chicken sandwich was tough, made with very poor quality chicken. It was also small and extremely over salted. Almost inedible. The fries were definitely not shoestring, but just regular fries that tasted like old grease. Do they use the same grease for everything? So so disappointing. The atmosphere is pretty nice here, but the selection is so average that you can find every single beer at any other spot in town. Absolutely nothing special. The food menu sounds good in theory but is actually just overpriced cheap ingredients. I've Never had such an unsatisfactory lobster mac. Made with a cheap pasta and minimal cheese. The smashed short rib burger is made with shredded romaine that's kind of melted and soft? Just overall weird choices and an imbalance of expensive crappy ingredients and trendy primary ingredients. I like the idea, I really do. The beer is delicious and the concept of the layout is good. However.... The line for beer is ridiculous. 25+ people waiting for 2 people pouring. Very little shaded seating. Even in moderate (71*) weather, it is HOT sitting in the direct sun at 3PM. Maybe invest in some umbrellas! This is going to be very bad in the summer. I suppose we will try again maybe when it's not so brand new. I hate to give a 3 star but it's definitely not worth $17.50 for 2 beers and boiling in the sun. read more

I can't help wonder why someone takes over a successful business with a winning formula and then changes it. Up until a few months, The Backyard ran the beer garden and Roots on Railroad ran the food service, making the best smash burger and fried chicken sandwich in town, as well as other interesting options. We brought our friends to the Backyard the other night and couldn't be more disappointed. The menu has been simplified and I would now define it as "bar" food. The burger was half the size and gone is the wonderful brioche bun. Now the bun is very basic and unfortunately ours was stale. The Bratwurst was mushy and also served on a stale, uninspired bun. We were excited that they added a watermelon salad. Unfortunately it was so salty that we were not able to eat it. We might come here on occasion to grab a beer, but with the best micro-brewery in town that also serves great food two doors down, it's not likely that we will return. read more

The owner Russell was so great about reserving a cabana for my friends and I as part of a birthday celebration. He was so responsive while we were planning. We absolutely loved the venue when we got there. It is huge... lots of tables. Nicely decorated. Very clean bathrooms. Very efficient to get drinks and order food. Great place with awesome atmosphere! Super down to earth, great service, really comfortable, fun vibe and yummy food.

All in all, cool space with good food and decent beer selection. However, few things to note: 1. Shade is pretty limited and even at a coolish 70 degrees it started to get a little too hot in the sun. Hopefully they add a few more shades or umbrellas to help things cooler. Some misters would also be a great addition especially as a paso summer surpasses the 100 degree mark pretty frequently. 2. Menus were hard to find and not complete to the selection. Having the tap lists or food menus more readily available around the tables would be super helpful. 3. Food was good- lobster Mac and cheese was delicious. Also ordered nachos, however they ran out of chips so gave us fries instead. Not a big deal if they had asked if that was okay before serving it.. we probably would have changed our order to something else if they did. Still okay with the fries, but a little disappointed we paid $15 for a dish we didn't order. Will definitely be back soon, even with the little things was a good experience! read more

I went to the backyard for the first time on Sunday. Figured we'd just grab a beer or two for Sunday funday....ended up being a great spot! The atmosphere was fun and lively. This was my second visit to the Backyard and I took another group of friends to experience the Backyard -- once again, our experience was great! I reserved the cabana and the fire pit area and it accomodated my whole group. Both areas were comfortable and allowed us to wind down from a busy day of brewery hopping and wine tasting. The food was great at "Roots on the Railroad" -- a great menu to choose from and the staff was friendly and courteous when bringing the food to us and getting anything else we needed.
