Amazing food! Wonderful staff! Dog friendly! During our last visit to Paso we ate here every night.

Excellent food especially the chicken shawarma. My wife and I keep talking how tasty it was. We happened upon the restaurant by chance when we were in Paso Robles on our wine tasting trip. I look forward to going back next time we are in the area. read more

On our way home from a camping trip, we wanted to stop in Paso Robles for lunch. Drove past The Backyard, saw great outside seating and a sign saying 'safe dining'. Walked up to the trailer type structure which was where you order at a window. Order taker was wearing a mask. Placed order and as we were walking away noticed that not one of the kitchen staff was wearing a mask!!! Asked the manager why, she said she had masks for them and if we insisted she would have them wear them. What?! They've already prepped the ingredients without masks, what's the point?! Suggested they take down the sign saying 'safe dining'. We left, had already paid, but not worth the risk of eating or requesting a refund. Such a marked difference in attitude from where we had just camped. EVERYONE wore masks even on hiking trails when they came across other hikers. True caring for one another. read more

I love The Backyard. It's a great place to meet with fiends by the fire pit, bring our kids along to play in the kids area, or to sample some of Chef Chris Beckett's AMAZING food. I can see many new memories being made with friends in the years to come. read more

Pretty chill place but was way too busy for my comfort the last time we wanted to go. The food from the place out front was a little price but I got the lobster roll and it was actually pretty good. Mom and I stopped by here because of the dog friendly accommodations. Boy, are we happy we visited! We enjoyed the tri-tip sandwich which was unique to other tri-tip sandwiches I've had in other places. They slice up really thin peppers on the sandwich and they toast the buns really well! Condiments were abundant so that the bread and sandwich in general were not dry. We visited during family bingo night and had a blast! We didn't win anything but it was really fun to see all the kids participating and enjoying some good old fashioned family fun. They have a great beer selection of which I tried the Hef Leppard and loved it! Mom and I also tried some of their house wine which is made by a local vineyard. So delicious we went and bought a couple bottles the next day at the actual vineyard! The place is clean, the seating plentiful and the vibe eccentric. They offer a lot of different activities and entertainment throughout the week. A good time can be had by just a few individuals, a couple or a family. Give it a try and support a local family and small owned business. read more

We had such a lovely afternoon at The Backyard. There is such a variety of outdoor seating, picnic tables, high-top tables w stools, cabanas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have an amazing variety of beer on tap (and plenty in cans). And the fried chicken sandwich was delicious. We'll definitely be back. read more

Great outdoor dining spot. Excellent menu for a variety of tastes. We started with the meatball appetizer. It was good and came with a sourdough toast. I had the egg roll in a bowl. Great flavor and perfect for my gluten free diet. My husband had the chicken schwarma. The pita was loaded with chicken and vegetables. We also loved the wine/beer selection onsite. We just had a graduation celebration here. It was such a great experience reserving The Garage. We were a group of 14 and they were very accommodating, letting us run a tab for food and bar. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was a great relaxed environment for both the adults and kids. We will definitely be returning! read more

The breakfast burrito is DELICIOUS (also huge- recommend splitting w a friend). The variety of beer options also a huge plus- they have canned beers and also about a dozen on tap. The staff are very attentive and all wear masks. read more

A group of friends and I went last Tuesday for lunch, the food was amazing! But the accommodation by the bartender Brooklyn is what will make us come back again. She was the only bartender there and was super busy, but the whole time had a smile on her face and made our experience that much better with her conversation and recommendations. We are from out of town so we appreciated her telling us the go to places in paso, and what we should see and do while we were here. We will definitely be back next time we are in town, staff that makes you feel this welcomed is hard to come by. Highly recommend stopping in! read more

After a long hard morning at the office on this Christmas Eve I was able to treat myself to a lunch at the backyard. From past visits I have come to find that the backyard has excellent food. However, what is even better are the people working there. The service was phenomenal as it was hand delivered by the chef Mr. Brad and was consistently checked on by the waiter Ms. Brooke. I love visiting the Paso area and the Backyard is a venue unlike any other in town. There is ample outdoor space to hang out, including a fire pit area. Very casual and comfortable vibe that is both fun and family friendly. The partner business Roots on Railroad offers delicous bites- my favorite item I tried was the lobster roll. If you haven't been, you've got to go to the greatest locals' secret hangout on the Central Coast! The family friendly super amazing beer garden is located in downtown Paso Robles! The Backyard has something for everyone, fire pits, quiet romantic tables, large group seating, corn hole, a family friendly area for families to hangout while their children play in a protected area! And of course theirs tons of local and unique beer and wine to enjoy. The owners, home grown high school sweethearts, have also partnered with some well known local chefs to have some super tasty bites available on the property too! Two local Roblans stopped by for lunch, Monday 6/22, 12:30 PM. After ordering the Tri-Tip sandwich and the Lobster Roll sandwich at the front window near the street, we found out you have to order drinks from the "bar" in the back. Ordering is à la carte. Bar service was very slow. btw, they don't serve ice with the soft drinks. When the food came out, there was a nice presentation for the tri tip sandwich but the lobster "roll" was beyond disappointing. Tri tip sandwich is not the typical Paso style we were expecting. More of a dry style French Dip with cheddar cheese and a little bit of non-descript bbq sauce but no au jus. The lobster "roll" didn't seem to be much more than defrosted lobster bits mixed with mayo, celery and dehydrated chives but no seasoning served between one folded over slice of Texas Toast. Any flavor the lobster mix might have had was obscured by the fat used to fry the bread in. Sorry to say that both were disappointing for the à la carte price paid. Asked for a box to take the second half of the tri tip sandwich home. After waiting for five minutes, we left. The Firestone Flyjack was the best part of the meal. read more

I've never written a review before, but really felt I needed to for this place. The atmosphere was beautiful. It was a busy Saturday afternoon so I guess I can kind of understand how this happened. When we went to order our drinks, the gentleman standing right outside the door of the bar was on his phone and just barked at us that he'd be right there without even looking at us. When he was done with his text he looked very angry and said "What do you guys want?" The beer and wine lists are huge and my girlfriend and I were torn in what we wanted. I guess he got frustrated or something and said he'd be right back. There was a line of people behind us and he just grabbed his phone and took off. Luckily a nicer bartender came in and served us an IPA and a glass of red wine. As we sat down we noticed that both of our glasses had lipstick on them AFTER we had taken a drink. So back in line I went to get clean glasses. There was still only the one bartender working so this took a lot of time. Once I got to the bar the rude bartender was back and unfortunately he was helping me. I showed him the lipstick and he just put them aside and asked what we were drinking. He didn't even apologize or check the new glasses for lipstick before he poured the new ones. So when I got them I checked them myself. When he saw me do that he rolled his eyes and motioned to the customer behind me to come up to the bar. That's when I noticed the gnat in my girlfriends wine. I honestly didn't want to say anything again to this man and just took the gnat out when I sat down. I know everyone has bad days, but this guy, dirty glasses, bugs, and cold food from having to wait so long in line put a damper on our whole experience. And we weren't the only ones with dirty glasses. The couple that were sharing our table did too. It's honestly a real shame. This place has amazing potential if only they had better staff and paid attention to details such as old lipstick on glasses and gnats floating in your drink. I'm giving two stars for the atmosphere and the nice busser that took our dirty plates of half eaten food when we were done. read more
