This places chicken pad Thai was soo goood! They have a scale from 1-4 for spicy. I typically do 3 at most restaurants and 3 here was perfect! It was spicy but not too spicy where my eyes are pouring and snot is flowing. Well, maybe it was a bit! I did ask for extra chicken which they definitely added extra. It's a nice, quiet seating area. Pad Thai was SO dry that all the noodles just stuck together in one clump plus they were overcooked mush. Hardly any flavor and did not come with any lime. One of the worst I've had. Tom Kha soup had a great tasting broth (reason for 2 starts and not 1) but the chicken grossed us out as it tasted like wet dog to both my partner and I so we threw all of it out. It also did not have any onion in it which was a first for me with Tom Kha soup. Had a generous amount of yummy mushrooms though. Overall, really disappointing and will not return. read more

The food? ...good. The problem is their lack if communication. Do not attempt to order sauce on the side. It is "restaurant policy" that they do not do sauce on side. If you order sauce in side they will not call you and tell you they do not do this. When you call them and ask them why the sauce was not one the side because your child was having some, they will scold you and tell you that you should have ordered not spicy sauce. Anyone who has a child knows it is not about spice level; it is about sauce. It feels very silly to post about this, but this is the second time and they never told us the first time that it was restaurant policy. In addition, dear restaurant, people who have food delivered often want sauce on side because it keeps the fried food crispier. And if you are making food fresh you fry the chicken, then add the sauce, so I am confused why there cannot be a halt in the process to deliver a simple customer request. And if you cannot halt the process, it makes me think we are being served food from a large prepared vat. read more

Kind people and plentiful portions. It's my nearby Thai go-to and I love any of the wide noodle dishes. This place isn't playing with spice levels either. I consider myself someone who loves spicy dishes, but level 3 is enough for me. Spice level 4 and 5 is only for true spice masters. read more

I thought I'd give the place a second chance because I love Thai food. The first time the noodles were dry with no flavor. The second time I didn't get to my food because I paid with no tip and sat down. The waiter/ manager then comes to me and yells out loud "that In order to dine in you must tip! And re-hands me my receipt." All the other customers were in disbelief and said "that's crazy." So ya if you'd like dry noodles and crappy service go ahead. read more

I ordered Uber eats from this restaurant and was really disappointed in the customer service on my last order. My husband is vegetarian and I ordered the salad rolls with no meat sub tofu, they're normally served with chicken and shrimp. The restaurant called me and told me that they cannot sub tofu, which was totally fine, I just asked if they could just leave them vegetarian. She informed me that the rolls were premade and that the kitchen would not make more because they were too busy at the time and that I should just pick the meat off. I'm sure uber eats order are annoying, but I am a paying customer and I'm sure if I was a patron dining in the restaurant I wouldn't have been treated the same way. I've ordered from here before, but will take my business to one of the more accommodating Thai establishments in the city. read more

Heard really good things about them, but they definitely didn't live up to the hype. Maybe we just had a bad cook/night, but... The entrees were pretty bland, the rice was very dry. Ordered takeout for 4 and we absolutely loved what we got! As an appetizer, we got the Spring Rolls and Crab Wontons which are fairly miniature in size and I had hoped they'd be a bit larger! My favorite dish was their Pumpkin Red Curry which was so delicious and creamy. Paired with white rice it's heaven on earth. Only downside is that you have to pay in addition for white rice which I think should be included with any curry since it's a must to eat together! I've never eaten in Thai Thani's restaurant, but I order takeout from them on occasion. I've tried a few different Thai restaurants in Ballard and so far Thai Thani is my favorite. They've got good flavors and seasoning. We love their fresh rolls--packed with lettuce and veggies with a delicious peanut sauce. It's like a fresh salad in your hand. Their Tom Yum soup is tangy and delicious. Our two favorite entrees are the pumpkin curry and Pad See Ew. One of the things I really like is the choice of rice (jasmine or brown) and the option of steamed noodles with your curry. They've got a small parking lot (just off Leary) so it's a cinch to call your order in, swing by and pick up your dinner. read more

Adorable little place. Nothing spectacular about the decor or the menu, but if you're looking for classic Thai, look no further. Very polite service and very quick presentation of the food. I think I hardly waited fifteen minutes for the spring rolls. And let me tell you about some spring rolls. As is typical of thai fried spring rolls, these were vegetarian, and came with a light sticky sweet and sour sauce that offset the perfect flavor of the sweet outside and savory veggie inside of the spring rolls. Seriously, it was like fried veggies wrapped in funnel cake with an edge of perfect sour to give it complexity. I'm not hard to please when it comes to these things but Thai Thani kitchen really knocked it out of the park. Of course, the main meal was excellent too. I had drunken noodle, which has a different name on their menu, but if you ask for it, they'll point you in the right direction. The noodles were some of the best thai noodles I've had--I'm guessing these were homemade based on their texture and quality. As far as Thai goes, this is a quality traditional Thai experience and I will definitely be back. read more

Get the brown rice! I never thought I'd start a review with a rave review of rice but there it is. You know how some places you are loathe to order the brown rice even though you know maybe it's healthier, blah, blah, blah. Just stop. Order the brown rice. I ordered Pad See Ew with beef. While it was tasty and fresh, the quality of beef was not good. It was VERy tough meat. Almost impossible to chew. This place opened up around the corner from where my boyfriend and I live. We walk around Ballard a lot eating, drinking, and just general merriment at all the wonderful things in our neighborhood and got to see the place as it was coming together every time we walked by. I was very seriously hoping that this restaurant was going to be really great Thai. It's so near by and the other Thai places within walking distance have just been alright if not disappointing or just vegetarian (I need meat). We ordered it out one night and had some family over and ordered enough for a small army. Every single dish we got was delicious! The curries are a great consistency, the noodles are tasty and fresh (love the Thai Thani Noodles), and the couple of times I've gone in and eaten at the restaurant everyone is always so nice and warm. I love this place! Great simple and comfortable interior. I've eaten here a handful of times, each time the food was delicious. Brown rice is very flavorful. I've tried the cashew, mushroom, onions, peppers dish, although I forgot the name, it is so good the sauce is insanely good. The mushrooms were marinated in the sauce and I really could not get enough of their flavor. The tofu, perfectly fried. On previous occasions had swimming Rama, pad Thai and the Thai Thani special. All have been high quality dishes, perfectly prepared and I would gladly order again. I saw the soup last time, and I will be going back to try it becuase it looked so good. Gone is the beat up old Subway that used to occupy the space. Now there is a very clean, simply decorated Thai restaurant. I walk pass the Rickshaw that's parked right outside Thai Thani every day! Frankly, I think it's a great way to catch people's attention. The service is GREAT - you are politely greeted by someone, seated promptly, and taken care of the entire time. Our water glasses never made it more than half empty. My only knock is the service can be a BIT overbearing at times... I don't need someone asking "how is everything?" every 5 mins or so. It's hard to enjoy what I'm eating when I'm being interrupted every couple of minutes! The food is DELISH! Their spicy rating is from 1-4 stars, but if spicy is your thing, they'll give you a 5. I order my food with 5 stars... IMO, it isn't rock your socks off hot, but I like super spicy! I like the Golden Cashew Nut with chicken and brown rice. The BF likes the Pad Thai. This is our new go-to Thai spot in Ballard. Thaiku (around the corner) is good, but they don't serve many of the Thai staples we often crave. Thai Thani has a full bar with 3 beers on tap (Manny's, something from Snoqualmie, and a 3rd I couldn't quite make out from where I was sitting) If you are in the mood for good Thai food, give this place a shot - I'm sure you'll be pleased you got sucked in by the force of the Rickshaw!!! read more

Had a meeting for work earlier this week and everyone was craving Thai food. I called into Thai Thani the day before to make sure they would be able to take such a big order - the lady on the phone seemed a little nervous, but gladly accepted the challenge. I grabbed a menu on my lunch break and had everyone (13 people!) tell me what they wanted. The day of, I called in to place the order - 13 main dishes, a soup, a salad, 5 appetizers and a bunch of rice later, the person I was talking with repeated the whole order (including meats and stars!) and figured out the total with tax. At this point, I was already amazed. I told her I would be picking up the food at 6pm. I showed up maybe 5 minutes early and the cooks were in the process of making the food. I had to make 3 trips to my car, but it was great because the food was super freshly made! They made sure I had enough utensils, chopsticks, soy sauce and hot sauce. The food was amazing - you get a lot for your money! We had a lot of leftovers. The staff is great and very easy to work with! P.S. My husband and I come here occasionally. The food is good and the service is prompt and fast. Only bummer is their spices vary. We ordered 3 stars one time and our mouths were on FIRE and eyes watering and then ordered 2 stars and there was absolutely no spice then ordered 3 stars and again no spice. We got our favorite two dishes, beef pad see ew and chicken pad thai. We have ordered these two dishes at numerous Thai restaurants around town and Thai Thani nailed it! The pad thai was probably one of the most flavorful pad thai I have ever had. The pad see ew was really really good too! We called ahead and the food was ready exactly when they said it would be. This is one of those good solid Thai restaurants. They don't try to do anything fancy, Thai Thani is a very 'safe' Thai restaurant. You know EXACTLY what you're getting. That being said, i've had a lot of poorly done Thai... this is not poorly done. Thani does good Thai food. Reliable, consistent and delicious. I am always happy when I leave. This place was fantastic. I ate there for the first time recently -- it was a Tuesday during lunchtime. I ordered the pad see ew, and let me tell you, they nailed it. Yummy noodles, great temperature, perfect level of spiciness for my tastes. Not an overkill on the veggies (ha!). The serving was slightly smaller than one might get at another Thai restaurant, but I left feeling satiated and happy rather than stuffed and miserable. Our server was on it with the water refills. My wife and I went here for lunch today. I had a Thai iced tea and golden cashew with prawns, at spicy level 3. The waitress asked if I was sure I wanted 3, because it's spicy. I did, and it was spicy, just like I wanted. The Yelp reviewer that said the food was too bland must have ordered spicy level 1, as did my lunch date. The food was great, though I would have preferred more rice and less of everything else. The iced tea was awesome, too (and plenty sweet, unlike another Yelp reviewer's tea). Oh, we even liked the soup that came with the lunch specials. Service was very good, too - fast, courteous, and friendly. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 only for because I would have preferred the cook to remove the tailfins from the shrimp and because I would have liked about twice as much of the delicious rice. read more

I am Thai-American, I've lived in Thailand, my dad was a Thai chef. I have a deep understanding and appreciation of Thai cuisine. I fully endorse this place as a great Thai restaurant. Great, varied menu. Very much akin to a sit down restaurant in Bangkok. My lady friend and I took a stab at the following dishes: Gai Phad Grapow (Basil Chicken) - good use of chili, fresh holy basil, tender minced chicken, not too sweet like many other restaurants do Phad See Ew Moo (Stir fried flat rice noodles) - My favorite Thai dish hands down so very picky. I wish they would dry out their noodles just a little bit more so the char from the hot wok would set in. They are close here though and you should not eat it with anything other than pork. Really great meat, cooked perfectly, moist. Gaeng Dang Gai (Red Curry) - nice silky consistency but not too creamy, chicken was very tender, would leave out bell peppers next time and also go 3 stars (out of 4) Som Tum (Green Papaya Salad) - long strands of papaya, great mortar and pestle work, the fish sauce - palm sugar - lime juice ratio was on point. Tip top. Kao Mun Poo (Brown Rice but different) - this is a must have option to your meal. It is an unmilled version of rice that is such a rare find. Don't ever get white rice if this is an option.
