As hole-in-a-wall places goes, this is one. Decor of this place desperately needs a makeover. It looks like they may have a table or two upstairs for dining. They have outdoor dining. They used PVC pipes and duct tape to create the shields on the counters to prevent spreading covid. Really do with what they have and not concerns about the look. I had the pad see ew. It isn't freshly made. Another Yelper stated they made it fresh instead of scooping it like Chinese fast food but this isn't fresh at all. It's pre-cooked and frozen/fridgerated, and then reheat by re-cooking, which a lot of places do. However, the pad see ew had a lot of sauce.... like they doubled down on it to hide something with flavor. There wasn't much broccoli, and when you find one, it's old and mushie. It definitely could've been better. The portion could also improve. I'm use to getting a full take-out box where it fills the top half of the box. This was just the bottom half. It was enough to eat but felt cheated. read more

I've had countless Pad Thai and fried rice dishes over the years, but the ones I tried at Thai Spice were by far the worst. The taste was strange, and the presentation was downright unappetizing. Is this really what Thai food is supposed to be like? read more

I love trying new Thai places in the area as I haven't found "the one" quite yet. I came here and unfortunately did not enjoy my meal. I ordered pad see ew and a Thai iced tea. I got a medium level of spice, but was not told beforehand that their food is spicier than other places. The food was so spicy that I couldn't finish it :( My Thai iced tea also had a very weird and off taste that I couldn't quite place. If you really like spice this place might be for you, but I am just not that girl. read more

This place was a disappointment. I ordered the hot shrimp chow mein plate and well, I think even their hottest option would have been nothing. Pros: Portion size, food temperature Cons: Lack of flavor, freshness of ingredients Overall it was lackluster as it was missing any real flavor. With so many other options out there for Thai food, this would be crossed off of my list to go to. read more

I've come to this Thai spice location for over a decade and it hits EVERY TIME! The chicken pad Thai medium spice and chicken fried wontons are my go-to with a Thai tea on the side. Probable one of best pad Thai's I ever eaten, and this is coming from someone who actually been all over Thailand. The portion size was really good. The food isn't that expensive. I even told myself once I get back to the US I won't be eating Thai food anymore because the price difference, but then coming here I was amazed. The service was nice BUT be prepared for how spicy it is.... Highly recommend coming here for anyone Thai Food lovers ! read more

Thai Spice - Chicken Pad Thai - Thai Near Me - Irvine, California

Thai Spice has such a small menu that it's easy to grab exactly what you want and sometimes there's beauty in simplicity. I was craving pad see ewe and didn't feel like driving all the way down to Garden Grove to hit up my favorite restaurant so I decided to give Thai Spice a try. I actually live closer to the Irvine Marketplace location but saw such bad reviews that it turned me off to it and made me want to drive to this location. Thankfully, parking is not as chaotic as the marketplace so it wasn't difficult to find. Despite the restaurant looking empty, it's actually relatively busy especially considering we went on a Sunday at 8pm. You order at the counter and take a seat at the few tables they have downstairs. They have additional seating upstairs for those who dine in but I am not sure if they drop it off to your table or if you pick it up at the window. Pad See Ewe with Beef -- $9.95 -- very dry and the beef was so-so. I didn't like that the noodles were cut up into smaller pieces either. Egg Fried Rice with Shrimp -- $10.95 -- honestly could have made this myself. Consisted of white rice with soy sauce, egg, peas, and several pieces of shrimp. Overall, I would have probably done better by learning how to make these items on my own as they did not feel like an especially good value to me. I don't think I'd plan to return here unless their quality of food improves in the near future. (19/100--2019) read more

Was looking forward to Thai food. Ordered a chicken curry (medium heat) over rice and a fried tofu appetizer. The chicken was large pieces of thigh meat; smaller pieces would have been better. But the curry was a thick glob lacking spice and taste. It was on top of the white rice and it made the rice soggy instead of flavorful. The fried tofu was much better with its dipping sauce. I would have rather had peanut sauce to dip the fried tofu into. All in all, another Asian food disappointment in Irvine. There has to be better Thai somewhere. read more

I've been to many thai restaurants in the US and this has to be the worst thai restaurant I've been to. The Tom yum is a joke. Doesn't taste anything like a normal Tom yum. The spice level is much more spicier than normal. Even with their supposed descriptions. I can handle heat, but can't eat spicy food right now because I'm nursing. Basically can't eat too much of the food I ordered. The portions are tiny !! Such a weird restaurant. If you want real Thai food don't order food from here read more

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Granted, it has been probably about 15 years since I came here last, but I always had fond memories of this place. This was my go-to Thai place that was cheap, fast, and tasty! I think back fondly on the memories of a large pile of spicy and tasty pad kee mao in a large takeout container, all for the bargain price of $5. Sadly, that is no more. I came here a couple of days ago and bought the pad kee mao with chicken. Not only did I wait almost 30 minutes to receive my order (when the restaurant was not anywhere near full), but it tasted noticeably more bland than I remember. In fact, I had to add soy sauce and chili sauce just to add some flavor. It was also much less spicy than it used to be. While the $8.95 price tag is not overpriced, given the quality and the taste, I still think I overpaid. Also, the portion size seems to be smaller than before. Even though the order still came in a large takeout container, there were large chunks of lettuce that took up a decent amount of space. I should mention that I have visited Thailand before and had some amazing food there! I now know that pad kee mao is actually an Americanized dish. That said, I've definitely still had better elsewhere without the long wait and comparable (if not cheaper) price. I was so excited when I ordered, but sadly, I likely won't be back. read more

Do not eat here ! Food was expensive & mediocre at best the Thai tea was from a powder mix tasted terrible and cost $5-6. There are literally dozens of places nearby to choose from regarding Thai food. The ambience is also not nice. I think this is a quick place for the Irvine valley college students to go. I feel bad for them. Go literally anywhere else read more

This place was good! They were not too crowded when we walked on aThursday around 6 in the evening but then became crowded quickly. Vincent was our server and his customer service was great!! All the food came out in a timely manner and hot. The Pad Thai I ordered did not taste like my usual Pad Thai and the See ew was not the usual my friend gets. But the egg rolls were amazing!! Highly recommend. Food was still great. Will come back if anything just to see Vincent. Nicely decorated it was a nice dining experience read more

Terrible... Ordered Pad Thai and the dynamite wings The pad Thai came out which so much sauce it was almost soup... To top if off cashier who was nice then brought out the dynamite wings. Keep in mind I ordered them "mild" which on the menu the "mild" level says it's slight heat but not super noticeable. This parts actually funny. I took one bite and it had might've been the most spiciest thing I've eaten. Keep in mind I have a high tolerance for spice. I ordered mild.... Instead of preparing me a new dish all I got was "it was spicy haha sorry about that" Y'all got this tho. Always room for improvement read more

I don't know how this is a 3 star place... I've never had Spicy Pad Thai in ALL. OF. SO-CAL. as good as this one. They didn't just dump a crapload of chili oil in it. The spice flavor is very much infused in the noodle dishes. The chicken was also perfectly cooked. Someone wrote in the comments that the pad see ewe had small cut up noodles, but in my plate, they were thick and def not small. I don't know whether I was lucky or whether they were just there on an off day? Honestly if you're looking for a place with bomb Thai food with legit spice, this is it. I've had this place plenty of times and it has NEVER failed to meet my expectations. I consider myself a foodie and this place is one of the BEST Thai places you will find in all of LA&OC areas. Thai spices offers authentic soups where individual hot pot comes with soup so the temperature is maintained throughout dinner with very reasonable prices that can serve 2-3 adults. With 1 big soup like this and 1-2 other dishes can feed 2-3 adults which bills end up $30-45 before taxes read more

Very good customer service, I will always support this family business restaurant in the local area! Thank you!

I always come here mondays because the padthai is so good and they have a $7 special on monday 2:30-9pm for this dish. Very VERY Inconsistent cooking, but its really good . I can easily eat the samyang spicy noodles and i'm telling you to go for the spicy instead of fire because it is ACTUALLY spicy. go for a medium if you want something more chill. when the cooking is good, its really good but sometimes its watery and not cooked all the way through, so for me, the food ranges from 2.5/5 to 5/5. read more

My boyfriend and I come here often and have loved their food. Recently I ordered their Pad Thai, and was sad to feel a long skinny bone in one of the tiny pieces of shredded chicken. I was very amazed to see that this happened, especially knowing all the times we have come before and not had any problems. When I went to go buy a beef fried rice (because you can't go wrong with and fried rice right?) and let them know this happened to me and I felt disrespected, not one employee had anything to say. The man in the back I saw working with the raw meat when I said this walked away and looked very uncomfortable. This is just sad, I really like coming to this place to get great Pad Thai, and after this experience I won't be purchasing this item ever again. read more

Thai Spice is an easy place to grab a quick bite and their food is consistently delicious! I usually go with the Pad Thai with chicken and a regular Thai Iced Tea. You can change the spice level to whatever you prefer. You can also call in to make your order and pick it up so you don't have to spend anytime waiting at the restaurant. I would also recommend using FiveStar so you can accumulate points to get a free drink or dish and also get notifications for their offer specials on specific days for example on Mondays they have $5 Pad Thai at certain times! Been coming here for years. I have probably eaten here more than 100 times. The food is classic and delicious. I love it as much today as I did the first time. The portions are fair for the price. I've made a conscious decision of witholding ratings of establishments, particularly those that fall into the family owned categories, since ratings of others usually offer a good guide for patrons to choose a visit or not. For Thai Spice, I decided to deviate a bit since the ratings appear to be across the board and in all fairness, a rating can go beyond a suggestion to visit or avoid or even to benefit a business owner. I write this for all of these reasons. Having spotted Thai Spice countless times over several years, I chose to stop in. In all honesty, two of the other restaurants I was considering this particular evening were not available and in the interest of time, I gave it a shot. For starters, it has been around (per the staff/owner), for a very long time. Unfortunately, if the reason for stating this was validation, there wasn't a reason to qualify that point. Aesthetically, the business was significantly dated and appeared to have heavy mileage. The other thing that was noticed is that the options were numerous, but didn't include many of the popular dishes that are common dishes at Thai spots. As an example, the green papaya salad (Som Tum) would be one such item. Unfortunately, the other options were not entirely appealing either, so I chose to pivot with the coconut soup (tom kha), the pad see ewe. As has been conveyed by others, the portions were abundant, but the quality of the dishes was lacking both in freshness, quality of ingredients and in taste. Had I actually taken pictures of the items (chose to not do so since it was a take out situation), my references would have been more apparent. My hopes were dashed after the meal. Perhaps, I've been spoiled by my favorite in Garden Grove, but it has served as a barometer to compare against when trying a new Thai spot. I am hopeful that the proprieters recognize and accept that enhancements and updating the decor are needed. I'll be sure to monitor subsequent reviews and use them as a sign to visit again or continue searching. Be well! read more

I guess being in SoCal and having super low expectations for Thai food really made this place a lot better for me than other people. Thai food is my favorite food and I have not found anywhere in SoCal where it's actually delicious. NorCal, you've sealed the deal with good Thai food. On that note, the Pad Thai here really isn't that bad. Actually, it's pretty good. It's not super traditional but I like the way they cook their noodles here. It's not too soft and it's not too separated and hard (THE WORST). I wish it was spicier though. I've gotten the spiciest one and it still wasn't very spicy at all and the chili powder I added didn't help. I haven't had anything else here but looking at the pictures, I think I'll stick to the Pad Thai. My friend got the Pad See Ew here before and it didn't look to great. Again, stick to the Pad Thai. read more

I had not been in this place lately. My other half told me to buy the Monday night Pad Thai. It was six dollars only and I ordered it mild since I remember their dish was very spicy. It came out to be really mild. It was okay since I had hot sauce at home. It was decent taste, I did not see much protein in there but for the price it was still a good deal. It was quite busy during Monday so prepare to be there for at least 15 minutes to wait for the order. read more

It really bums me out to give restaurants low reviews. I came here in hopes of finding a great local Thai restaurant that I could order from time and again. When I entered the restaurant in the late afternoon, it looked kind of busy, people were going in and out with their orders, the kitchen was buzzing with activity. I actually like how the inside looks, like a mom and pop restaurant. The staff was very polite and took everyone's orders in a timely fashion. I ordered chicken pad Thai. When I opened the box, it looked okay, one side was sprinkled with chopped peanuts, which I appreciate. I would've liked some lime wedges to squeeze over the dish, as many other Thai restaurants provide. I believe I chose the mild spice option. It was HOT HOT HOT! I don't mind spicy food, but I usually don't eat pad Thai with a huge amount of spice to it. The taste itself was alright, but unfortunately the heat level ruined it for me. Later on, I did get sick, and I know it was because of this food because my diet that day was otherwise normal. Perhaps the reason for getting sick was just a spice level, but I guess I'll never know for certain. I was really disappointed, there is no good Thai food around me that I can order from, or drive to that's not less than 25 minutes away. (50 minute round-trip is a bit excessive just for food imo) I will not be returning, but I would encourage you to try this place for yourself and see if you like it. It seems that other people were in and out of the restaurant happily picking up their food, so maybe it was just me. read more

Be careful with the spice level here. A "mild" here has the spice level of like Sriracha. If you don't LOVE spicy food, get Not Spicy. Seriously. I saw someone complaining about they messed up the order because the "mild" was too spicy, I had the mild and it burned my mouth off. With the spicy level, it's EXTREMELY heavy-handed. I also ate half of the Fire and I got light-headed and cried for 20 minutes straight. Took the other half home and cried for another 20 minutes. A few weeks later, on separate occasions, I ate Flaming Hot Cheetos, a bunch of Wasabi, and drank some sriracha. They meant nothing to me. The Pad Thai comes with peanuts and bean sprouts. The noodles are nice and chewy, so no complaints there. I will say, though, the Pad Thai doesn't taste right. I don't know what it is, but it feels like it's 90% of the flavor I expect from a Thai restaurant, like it's missing something and there's too much lemon/lime/acid flavor. I frequent this place though, they sometimes have a promotion which makes the Pad Thai a steal! This place can be pretty good and if you want to test your mettle with spicy food. The No Spicy option is also pretty tasty, even if I don't think it tastes "right", so give this place a shot. read more

straight up, this is my favorite pad thai. i never order pad thai at other thai restaurants... but something about the moistness, spiciness, and just overall flavor/texture about this specific pad thai is delicious AF. i used to go here everyday in college over a decade ago, and I recently just came back to see if it was still bomb... and guess what - IT IS. these other low ratings on this page are trippin. for a tasty quick fix, Thai Spice is a timeless gem. read more
