Great food, great service, great price! The monday price on pad thai is such a great deal. We've been going every now and then; the last time we ate there. The place is a little cramped especially when it gets busy. There's apparently a second floor but it was closed. The person behind the counter was very friendly and patient. We of course got pad thai and some egg rolls. My wife and I can usually take spicy pretty well, but their spicy is top level. After about halfway through I'm struggling, but it's so good! Literally had the best chicken wings ever. The dynamite wings are SUPER addicting. And honestly it's way better than Bon Chon. I have always wanted to try new Thai places and the main dish that I use to rate is my all time fave: Tom Yum soup I thought, based on the ratings, that the place may just have a few misses but may actually have potential. However, I ordered their small portion of Tom Tum, a side of white rice, and their Thai tea. It is a solid 3 (probably even 2.5/5. I was very disappointed with how watery, lack of aromatic taste, lack of ingredients (mainly tomatoes and cilantro), and how little shrimp they gave me (about 3-4 small pieces only). Their rice was also on the cheaper side. It isn't your soft, chewy jasmine rice. Rather, it is pretty dry, and it easily breaks down. Their thai tea could do better with being a bit more rich/deep and the boba seemed old. Overall, this place needs a huge recipe change. Tom Yum should be a very traditional Thai dish, and if you can't really make it rich that costumers would come back for it, then I don't know about how the other dishes are. This is the only Thai Spice location left. I'm sad to see that they had to close down their other locations. I used to go to Thai Spice for their Pad Thai and Panang Curry. It has been several years since I visited Thai Spice and I am happy to discover that they still offer their Monday $5 Pad Thai (chicken or tofu) Special as of July 19, 2021! I'm sad to say that the Pad Thai is not what it used to be. The noodles were mushy and bitsy. They looked like the bits and ends that were scraped up from the bottom of the pan. Not a single piece of noodle was even an inch long in length. The portion was also small. I get it, it's a discounted dish so perhaps they are cutting back on the portion, but the portion and quality were not compromised in the past with this same special. So I use to go to the one in the market place. They were friendly and the portions were decent. With all of them closing down I've had to revert to the only one left located on Jeffrey. It feels like every time I come here the portions get smaller and smaller. I asked for extra shrimp and they charged me extra which is fine but the issue is they didn't add the extra shrimp! Add I had actually tipped them when I paid. I gave them a chance to redeem themselves and I ordered some egg rolls. Ate two of the three and thought I'd take the extra one home. I went to the counter to ask for an extra sauce and she had the nerve to tell me they had to charge me ; after I had told them they forgot the extra shrimp. Got takeout from here for dinner, and it was great. Thai Spice always feels like comfort food to me. We got Pad Thai with vegetables (medium), Pad See Ew with egg (mild), Pad Kra Prow with egg (medium), and veggie egg rolls. The egg rolls here never disappoint, always 10/10. My favorite egg rolls. My mom described the Pad Thai as heaven and said they didn't compromise on vegetables. I liked the Pad See Ew, but I think I'll get it without egg next time since the taste was a bit overpowering. This five star review is mainly for their Panang Curry. They make the BEST Panang Curry I have ever had. They make it a bit differently than other Thai places. Here, the curry is made with bamboo shoots of which I can't get enough. The flavor is perfect and their chicken is complemented by the curry. If you order one thing here, get the Panang Curry. Even though I can't stop talking/writing about the curry, they still have other delicious options. Their BBQ Chicken and Pad Thai are nice options to go with. Their chow mein is very light in flavor, but if you throw some of the Panang Curry on top of it, you got yourself a great meal. The inside of this restaurant is pretty small. Whenever I'm craving some Thai food in Irvine, this is my go-to spot! Located next to so many other popular restaurants and establishments, Thai Spice is definitely one of my favorites. Everything in this plaza is satisfying!!! The Pad See Ew is my favorite no doubt. The way they cook their broccoli and eggs is so unique! And noodles ftw! I liked everything in this dish except the meat; the beef could be a little more tender or soft but the flavors are there. The Pad Thai is also a must try. Again, everything tasted amazing but I preferred my meat to be softer. It's also best when eaten fresh and warm. The Mango Sticky Rice is another immaculate dessert I eat all the time when I'm back home. I think this dish was just satisfactory, as the fruit could be sweeter and rice could be cooked more carefully. Thai spice is your run of the mill take out Chinese/thai food spot in my opinion. It's not scoop and serve like takeout Chinese, but ordered and cooked fresh. Service is pretty prompt, we waited maybe 15 minutes for two entrees and they came out piping hot fresh out of the wok. Also, if you're there on Monday, make sure to say you want the $5 Monday Pad Thai, otherwise you'll pay full price. As for flavor, the pad thai was full of it. Crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, thai spices, and the signature squeeze of lime juice for the acid kick that pad thai is known for. It was delicious. Even the mild spice was more than mild at most places, so take heed. The rice was a little more bland, and a bit oily/wet for my preference. I like a drier fried rice that holds together from the cooked starch, but I know this isn't everyone's preference nor how every place cooks it. Overall, not a horrible dinner for cheap takeout. As hole-in-a-wall places goes, this is one. Decor of this place desperately needs a makeover. It looks like they may have a table or two upstairs for dining. They have outdoor dining. They used PVC pipes and duct tape to create the shields on the counters to prevent spreading covid. Really do with what they have and not concerns about the look. I had the pad see ew. It isn't freshly made. Another Yelper stated they made it fresh instead of scooping it like Chinese fast food but this isn't fresh at all. It's pre-cooked and frozen/fridgerated, and then reheat by re-cooking, which a lot of places do. However, the pad see ew had a lot of sauce.... like they doubled down on it to hide something with flavor. There wasn't much broccoli, and when you find one, it's old and mushie. It definitely could've been better. The portion could also improve. I'm use to getting a full take-out box where it fills the top half of the box. This was just the bottom half.
