Misasa, can be found inside the Mitsuwa marketplace's food court right next to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka in Irvine. I personally don't order from this restaurant but my husband has for several years. I don't know why he goes there, because every time he buys the food, his opinion is always just "meh". Literally every time. It never fails. He says "meh". I ask why he continues to go to them but he just says "I don't know". I've tried all the food he's purchased which was also just ok for me. Go to the counter, order your food and find a seat/table. It's best to go outside of the lunch and dinner rush. If you don't want to purchase a drink from the restaurant or the market, make sure you bring your own water. Water for the food court is room temp from a faucet. I prefer water filtered by reverse osmosis, so the water for the restaurants are not to my liking at all. What he has ordered most recently; 1) Grilled salmon - The salmon was served with rice, miso soup, a potato salad, sliced unseasoned cucumber and cooked bean sprouts. My son thought the salmon was alright. He ate all of it because he was hungry but he wasn't all that impressed with it. I ate the bean sprouts which I normally love to eat, but this was not seasoned. It seemed like it was only cooked in water. 2) Mixed tempura - shrimp and veggie tempura over rice, served with the tempura dipping sauce. The sauce was very flavored. Heavy in taste, both sweet and salty. It was overpowering the tempura, so we ate them without the sauce. I'm not used to tempura sauce having such a strong taste. That was a first for me. 3) Gyudon - thinly sliced beef over rice, served with red ginger. I didn't get to taste this one but my kids said it reminded them of Yoshinoya's beef bowl. I won't stop eating salted grilled mackerel fish plates or katsu chicken curry rice. This is a very small food court with limited choices compared to other similar locations. It's just cost $1-$2 more if you compare it to other places. Salads/lemon/ginger are always fulfilling here. Staffs are friendly and there's also employees tossing out trash and cleaning up the tables. Somehow, it still feels tighter in space in this environment. Busy for sure. They have plastic models of their entire menu so you can see what the food will look like before you order, which I really appreciate. I got the pork cutlet curry with rice and salad. The curry is very flavorful and delicious. It pairs perfectly with the katsu, which was very crispy even after it had been half covered in curry. They are very generous with the amount of rice and salad. This place is definitely very good for the price that you pay, after tax I only paid $11 for my plate. There was not a lot of people in line when I went, so I got my food pretty quick. The parking can be difficult if you are trying to park right in front of Mitsuwa. What unique with this restaurant is that it shows displays of each dish on a shelf right next to the cashier, which is super helpful for ordering food. In addition, I'm pretty surprised by the cost of our meal, and was pretty affordable. For the 2 of us, our bill was about $25, which is cheaper than Olive Garden. The service was pretty fast overall as well. For a place in a Japanese market, it felt like we were in a real sit down restaurant, which was nice. Although this sauce was a little watery, the taste was still very good. I probably got the first serving of curry, which is why it was a little watery.
