It has a thick, heavy base that's very similar to a soup curry, and the quality of the ribeye was top tier. It was super tender and delicious! 8/10 Egg Rolls - These were just okay. WOW!! I've tried many thai spots in OC and this restaurant stood out the most!! 1. I appreciate their fast and friendly service, they care a lot to make sure you're not waiting too long for a table and that everything is to ur liking! 2. Ambiance is crowded and lively, their dining area may seem to be overcrowded a bit with tables but the decoration creates the atmosphere! 3. My boyfriend and I ordered the Dry Khao Soi, a Mongolian Beef stir fry, a basil pork stir fry, thai iced tea, fried banana ice cream, mango sticky rice. I would definitely recommend the Dry Khao Soi, the flavors were so in depth with a sweet creamy coconut taste. Everything tied so well together!! I understand the confusion because we had the same name as the group waiting next to us but I wish they checked our phone number as a part of the confirmation process. We waited for our turn at #1 on the waitlist for 2 hours and they kept giving our table away and apologizing for the misunderstanding. That being said, I still love the little store and the neon signs they have hanging remind me of the street food scenes when I travelled to asia. The vibe of the place is really chill yet at the same vibrant and bustling like how it would be if you were at a street food stall. The crying tiger is hands down my favorite pick of the night and the yellow curry with roti is unforgettable. The meat was perfectly cooked and paired wonderfully with the sauce which was tangy and cut through the fattiness of the meat beautifully. Chiang Rai specializes in Northern Thai cuisine. They have a large menu to choose from and great decor. My group settled on some items to share. Pad Thai (chicken) - $19 - This dish consisted of rice noodles tossed with egg, tamarind and fish sauce, bean sprouts, peanuts and chicken. Chicken was tender and overall I fell this dish was good but I felt I have tried better in Bangkok. Som Tum Thai - $17 - This was made of shredded green papaya, lime juice, fish sauce, tomatoes, peanuts and shrimp. It was refreshing and crunchy and had great flavor. Khao soi (chicken) - $19 - Made with a rich coconut curry broth, egg noodles, and topped with crispy noodles, this had a lot of depth of flavor. This is one of their more popular dishes and I can see why. Goong Kan - $23 - This consisted of shrimp with shell on sauteed in a curry sauce. I'd probably pass on this, there was nothing unique about this dish. Mango Sticky Rice - $14 - The mango was so sweet and delicious here! The sweet and sticky riced paired with it and was the perfect way to end the meal here. Thai iced tea - $6 - Solid Thai tea option here, though it is on the sweeter side. My favorite Thai restaurant in OC and well deserved of their Michelin credentials (although it's priced in). It can be on the expensive side for Thai food, but I thought the quality of the food and large portions alleviated the cost. The food was superb and you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients and the bold flavors. Parking is easy to find, but can be a bit of a walk because of the structure of the strip mall. Food/Drink- 5 stars Som Tum Kai Tod- everything about this dish was divine. The chicken was juicy and perfectly fried. The salad had so much flavor. And the sticky rice was perfectly cooked, and stayed warm throughout our menu due to their presentation. Highly recommend it, but expect to get your hands dirty Aom Nure- the soup was a great way to round out the whole meal. Pad Mama- this was really good, and I'm glad I tried it over the more mainstream noodle dishes. Quaint restaurant with delicious Thai food. The Khao Soi Noodle Soup was flavorful from the broth and crispy soft shell crab. The soup was more of a curry consistency - viscous and creamy. The Poo Kari was tasty from the egg sauce over the soft shell crab with rice. It's a small restaurant so space is tight, but the interior decor makes it look like you're eating on the Thai streets. I recently came here with my sister. She kept on hearing her friend talking about Chiang Rai so wanted try it out. Food was very good but it's more on the pricey side for Thai foods. We had the crying tiger (grilled usda rib eye), som tum kor moo (papaya salad with grilled pork neck and sticky rice) and the beef curry with bamboo shoots. They were not only delicious but beautifully decorated. The meat was so tender on the crying tiger. Wowza! Everyone talks about Manaoo but Chiang Rai may be my new favorite Thai place!! Everything we ordered was spectacular and we can't wait to come back! We got: Jor pu (crab dumpling)- so much crab and perfectly crispy. The homemade sweet and sour was amazing. Gang pla (Fish curry)- lychee in curry with sea bass!? Who knew.. my far one of our favorite dishes. Pad Kara Prow (with chicken) - so much flavor and with the chicken it felt lighter and so so good Midnight chicken with roti- perfectly fried and the inside deliciously tender. Khan Soi Noodle Soup- definitely a must try! It is one of my favorite dishes and then using the additional broth/curry over rice is perfection. Som tum Thai (papaya salad)- loved their salad- could've been a bit more spicy but they brought all the spice condiments over so that problem was quickly fixed. Thai Bua Loy (sesame balls) - perfect way to end the evening (even with an overly full belly) with the perfectly chewy-sesame filled balls with coconut milk. We've done take out but the inside ambiance feels that of a street restaurant and just gives all the best vibes. This little gem in Tustin (my 3 top Thai local spots are in Tustin hmmm). Is worth the wait, although I would advise coming for lunch and waiting until they opened for first seating. We had the beef tongue skewers and the lime dressing dip was good enough to sip! The pad see ew was flavorful and large portions so enough leftovers for a pm snack. The coconut based soup (have the pic but the name escapes me) was so good and there are only two kinds so get it based on the main base broth! I wanted something new to chew. I was in the mood for Asian food. I culled though my bookmark list and opted to try one and happy that a Thai won. I picked a spot that looked like it was hot. And in the end Chiang Rai was worth a deep dive. It seems that there is a Thai place in every set back Mall in OC and there is a set back Mall on every block. Note: Best to go early as by 6:30 PM it's the sign up sheet and the parking lot until you are called. The down side with early is a squadron of kiddies in Onesie's squealing and screeching. At $30 per hour to have some high school drop out riffle through your undie drawer, I get it, bring the kids. The Decor: Actually, it is inviting. Some one took the time to design the space. Colorful cubbies display artistic elements and doo dads all through the dining rooms without looking cluttered. For a fast casual concept the interior decorations are conducive to a pleasant experience and the cost to dine there is reasonable into the bargain. The Thai community has given Chiang Rai its blessings and support. Most of the diners were from the Mother Country and then there were those who have never been to Thailand (although I have several times) but enjoy good Thai food which is hard to find. The choice was here or toss the limp Celery in the trash and head for Vons. Here is much better. The Sitter can deal with limp Celery. The Staff: Little Butterflies flitting around the dining room efficiently. My server, Potae, was very pleasant and helpful. The Food: The guy who invented scrambled Eggs must have designed the menu. It is a hodge podge of dishes cross referenced, arrows pointing to lists, and an extensive list of options. I studied it for 20 minutes until confusion caused a brain contusion. I absorbed lengthy descriptions and then flipped the menu over to select a protein (Chicken, Pork, Shrimp, Beef, and Salmon) and by the time I worked that all out I forgot what I wanted to order in the first place. Potae made her third visit to my table so I just asked for Chang Rai Larb. "Do you like Pork Blood?" asked Potae. "Doesn't everybody? I keep a bottle of it in the glove box at all times". "Try the Issan Larb", suggested Potae. "Whatever you say Potae works for me". What arrived was a stack of fresh crisp Romaine Leaves ready to scoop up spicy Ground Pork, instead of using a fork. The dish included fresh Mint, Red Onion slices, Cilantro, Lime Juice and Roasted Rice Powder. My Larb choices from Yuk to Yum quickly. This Larb had a slight barb of heat and was delicious. I managed to push a heap onto a Lettuce Leaf although half went on my Onesie. The leafy "taco" was perfectly balanced and immediately addictive. Pad Thai with Chicken came as a Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest Mountain) of Glass Noodles, and tender Chicken Chunks with a ladle full of Pureed Carrot Curry Sauce on top. The Sauce was a surprise but tasty and satisfying nonetheless. The Noodles were still hot from the stove, the Chicken still juicy and the Sauce an unexpected compliment. This dish also had a warm Chile kick on the end. Check the Chile Chart on the menu somewhere for your preference. Despite the fact that Pad Thai is a bit pedestrian, this version added Chopped Egg, Fresh Bean Sprouts, Chives, Red Onions, and Crushed Cashews and made it a standout. This is definitely worth a second order next time. The Soft Shell Crab was winking at me from the auspicious menu. All it said was "Bold and Saucy without the Broth". Okay, I'm in. Two huge Soft Shell Crabs the size of my Skecher Slip Ons topped a hill of sauceless Fried Wonton Strips, Fried Garlic bits, Chopped Scallions, Lime Juice and Diced Dill Pickles. The Crab Legs were crispy. The Crab body was a Duxiana pillow of meat, veins and guts. No worries, I believed I had a window between ingestion and detonation. Not so much as a hiccup for me so I'm ahead on points. The Soft Schell Crabs were terrific. Whatever you take home and you take home a hefty bag full you'll enjoy with scrambled Eggs in the morning. Full authentic flavors!! A friend was telling me about a Michelin star Thai restaurant in Tustin and it's been on my radar for almost a year now. I finally decided to stop procrastinating and was able to come and try this place out. The area is a little sketch, but parking is free and we were able to be seated right away. We ordered four of the skewers to start to octopus two shrimp. We weren't crazy about him. The octopus lacked flavor and the shrimp did too, but they are served with the sauce sauces that made up for it, but I wouldn't order it again for the price it was five dollars for each skewer so one shrimp for five dollars is a little crazy to me. Everything else that we ordered was delicious, but the standout dish for us was their Koi Soi with softshell crab. We also ordered their crab fried rice and fried Bronzino and shrimp Pad See Eww. I would absolutely come back for the soup again and the crab fried rice. The price also for all the food we got was very reasonable. It is quite bustling, which is interesting because there were no Thai restaurants in this area previously, and now there are three within a mile of each other. The decor is charming and evokes the feeling of Thailand. I found the food to be satisfactory; I had anticipated a bit more given the numerous positive reviews. The service was commendable. You will certainly need to arrive early to secure a table, as it is a small establishment with a capacity of only 62 to 65 people. Parking for the restaurant can also be a bit challenging. We so wanted to love this place but left disappointed with the food, the service, and the wait. Not being able to make reservations until you're within 5 miles (yelp only) was quite a disadvantage when we traveled from afar purposely to visit. Unfortunately, there was no way to make a phone reservation and despite being told the wait would be 45 minutes, in reality took 75 min. We started with the roti with yellow curry, which was salty, tasty, and flavorful. We ended up using the curry for dipping our other dishes as well. Next the fried enoki was a grease bomb, difficult to tell flavor of mushroom since the predominant taste was just grease. It looked cool and our kids did enjoy this one. The chiang rai pork larb was the hit of the night. This low acid, flavorful cooked pork was unlike anything we've had before and we could not stop eating this dish. The khao soi beef cheek also had great flavor- like a yummy rendang. Unfortunately lots of fatty bits that just weren't quite cooked and rendered enough to be edible. The bamii pu moo dang (egg noodle with mixed crab/pork/veggies) was our least favorite. The char siu pork was incredibly dry, even soaking in the side of soup didn't help the dry mouth feel this piece of the meat. Similarly, the noodles were fairly bleh. We were also quite disappointed with the dessert of mango sticky rice - usual favorite with the family. Despite looking fine, the mango was sour and lacked any sweetness. We asked about and were dismissed - told, yes sometime the mango won't be sweet. This dessert was bad enough that even our 4 and 6 year old did not want to finish this, a waste of $13. read more

We had orange matcha and San Pellegrino as beverages and they don't serve alcohol at the moment. For food we had 4 pieces Thai skewers, papaya salad with shrimps, crab pot, steamed branzino and wagyu noodle soup. Yeah we ordered a bunch of items to try for party of two! To be honest the food was not up to my expectations. First the steamed fish hot pot had no fire so the soup wasn't hot at all. And the soup was too sour for my liking. The crab pot was not a pot it was actually a crab bowl. Just little crab meat and rice with fixings and very dry. Papaya salad as yummy but it came with two shrimps! Skewers were not bad but a bit dry. The wagyu noodle soup was the best but came out very slowly. The food was mediocre at best with very little proteins. My biggest issue was the limited one and half hour dining time. If we had 4 ppl of course it was enough time to finish the food. But we were two ppl that ordered five items! And it took more than 20 minutes for the fish and noodle soup to arrive. The waitress brought us the check at one hour mark and didn't ask if we wanted desserts before that! There was barely any service already and this just made the early dinner experience even more unpleasant! Overall it was a very rushed meal and not enough services from beginning to the end. Came for dinner with my husband since I was craving Thai food. Restaurant is located in a strip mall and there's plenty of parking around the area. Wait was probably around 20mins at like 6pm on the Saturday we went. First impressions, restaurant was beautiful and very stylish. Seating a bit tight since the restaurant isn't that spacious and they get a lot of customers. Lots of tables with big parties. I got the khao soi noodles with soup and soft shell crab. First taste was wow, extremely flavorful and blew my mind. As I kept eating, the flavor seemed to get heavier and sweeter to the point where i could not finish. The broth is overly rich and indefinitely recommend splitting this as it's really heavy for one person. The crispy noodles started off okay but got really stale as they sat in the broth. Would not recommend the soft shelled crab as protein choice. It soaks up the broth way too quickly and gets soggy fast. Only the crab legs stayed crispy while the gills and body became a textural disaster. Maybe order with crabs on the side. My husband got the wagyu Thai boat noodles. Good flavor and he got spicy which made it better. Do wish they added more traditional herbs and vegetables to give it additional flavor but overall the dish was good. Also got the sous vide beef tongue skewers. The tongue was meaty and flavor was good. Probably not worth it for 2 for $10 tho. Glad I finally got a chance to check out this second location of Chiang Rai since I've been to the Long Beach location plenty of times. In comparison, this location seems a little more spacious and has a parking lot, which is a plus! However, it appears the menu is slightly different from the LB location since I didn't spot my beloved tom yum fried rice. We ordered some basic but trustworthy options for our first visit: -Pad Thai with chicken: surprisingly good with an ample amount of sauce and perfectly chewy noodles. I love my pad thai this way and hesitate to order it at certain restaurants for fear of it being dry or bland. -Combination Thai fried rice: also good and had a lot of protein. No complaints. Portions were sizable and prices were under $20 for these. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Chiang Rai and the ambience was cute. I went to Chiang Rai in LB for the first time and liked it so I introduced this place to my friends who were in town visiting when I saw that they have a location closer to me in Tustin. I joined Yelp waitlist, which has a requirement that you are within 5 miles radius in order to join, fair. I think we were on the waitlist for an hour for 4 on a Friday night. Food was good and service was awesome though. I think I like the food much better here than the LB location. For once, their Wagyu boat noodle actually have REAL Wagyu beef here, and it was plenty and it was delicious. I went to the Long Beach location again recently because I work in LB and they def they did give me any Wagyu meat at all, not even one slice.. Anyway, I would def recommend this place. Funky and eclectic :) I've been to the Long Beach location some years ago, but I think I enjoyed this one more! The Crying Tiger is delicious, perfectly tender @ medium well. The jaew is yummy with an interesting tamarind flavor, sweet and tangy. I do wish there was more meat though, I found the steak a little thin. It would also be nice if it was served with jasmine rice but I did order some on the side. The Khao Soi Dry Noodle was also really tasty! I loved the nutty flavor and the crispy noodles mixed in. You can join the waitlist via Yelp or scan the code when you get there. We wait around 15 minutes to be seated on Saturday around noon. There were several others waiting after us. I got to try their tom yum noodle soup, khao soi with ribeye, and the roti with curry. The roti was delicious with the curry. The khao soi was nice and creamy and rich in flavor. The tom yum noodle was a bit too fishy in flavor and not too sour. The fishy flavor was very overpowering. It's a good Thai spot, but nothing stuck out to me too much about this spot. Yesssss so glad my friends got us a reservation here! This is a delightful fancy thai spot in Tustin. Tastes a little lighter than Manao, and I like that they take reservations. It filled up by 630pm on New Year's Eve. Restaurant is on the smaller side, so tables are close together, and the vibes are more bustling/noisy, which fits the street food theming. Their menu is colorful and a little hard to read, but we still found amazing food ofc. I forgot all the names of the dishes, but: Chicken wings with roti were delicious. Khao Soi was tasty. Calamari chow mein was beautifully presented, and much better quality than your average fried calamari appetizer. Fried fish in red curry was thoroughly enjoyable, though the lychee inside was odd to me. From the warm welcome and cute decor I immediately knew it was going to be a delicious meal. We had a ton of dishes. To start a papaya salad and roti with yellow curry. The servers were very attentive and checked in on us often. Unfortunately, we were so indecisive, so it took a bit for us to place our order. We decided on: khoa soi noodle soup, khoa soi curry plate with beef, a cripsy pork plate, and we decided to share a dessert. We shared everything family-style, but 1 plate would have been a filling enough for 1 person. Everything was so delicious and flavorful! Found this gem when trying to book a reservation for 8 people. Other Thai restaurants did not take reservations so this was a great start. When we got there they were so busy, but that also meant food was good. Ordered a lot of dishes and honestly love them all. Very authentic Thai taste. Food came out fast, did not have to wait a long time. Inside was just too loud because of many people, but other than that everything was great. Will definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

Decent Thai food! We came on a Sunday at 6:15 and we got seated around 6:50/7. Servers were super nice and the decor and tableware in the restaurant was cute and colorful. We ordered the crab fried rice, crying tiger, pad see ew, and Khao soi. All were delicious but nothing super outstanding. The Thai tea that we got was a bit milky as well. Chiang rai would def satisfy any Thai food craving, but I personally prefer Manaao. I still think this place is worth checking out tho! read more

First time at the Long Beach location was so good, had to try out the Tustin location... And it didn't disappoint. They were out of oysters by the end of the day, so we got the Chiang Rai Larb, Roti Platter, and Soft Shell Crab Khao Soi. Roti and Khao Soi were just as good as the first time. So bomb. Chiang Rai Larb is part of the -1 Star. Needed more heat and acidity, since we got spicy level, but still good, just wouldn't choose it again. Service was rushed, only because we came an hour before closing, so when we sat, it was immediately last call. They dropped the check when we got the food, too, so felt a tad rushed, but this location is super cute. Will be back as my new go to for Thai in SoCal. read more

Came here for an early Sunday dinner around 5 p.m. with my family. We waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. We ordered several dishes to share family style: Drunken Noodles Pad See Ew Pad Thai Tom Kha Yellow Curry Mango Sticky Rice My son ordered the Khao Soi noodle soup. He loved it, it was his first time trying this. Everything tasted really good overall, but the two standout items for me were the Tom Kha and the Mango Sticky Rice. The Tom Kha was absolutely the best I've ever had perfectly balanced with incredible flavor. The mango sticky rice was also excellent! a generous portion, perfectly ripe mango, and rice that wasn't overly sweet. Everything about it was just really well done. The other dishes were good but didn't stand out as much to me. I've had a lot of Thai food, and I found those items fairly comparable to what you'd expect. That said, they definitely don't skimp on protein each dish had plenty of meat, which I really appreciated. The décor was nice and cultural, very clean, and had a warm, inviting vibe. One of my friends told me how good this place is, so we stopped by and managed to beat the evening rush. Parking was easy before the dinner rush. Inside the dining room was nicely decorated but cramped, I was within elbow's reach of the person dining next to me. Service was very friendly, but I did notice the service died down after we ordered and I had to start walking over to servers to ask for water or the bill. The food though, absolutely amazing. We got Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Rib Eye Beef 4/5, Soft Shell Crab Curry with Rice 3.5/5, Pad Thai Poo 4/5, and Mango Sticky Rice 5/5. I would come back for the Khao Soi and Pad Thai! We came to Chiang Rai as a party of four on a Friday evening and the place was super popular. We had to wait for around an hour before we got seated. Inside, the ambiance is lovely with lots of well placed decorations and good lighting. Service was equally impressive, friendly, and quick. We had the Nam Prik Mueng (ground chicken in curry paste), the San Uao (Northern Thai spicy pork sausage), the Tom Yum Boran Noodle Soup, satay chicken, and some egg rolls. All dishes were perfectly executed and well balanced with some new flavors. Luckily the pork sausage was not overly sweet, making it well suited for more Western palates. Each dish not only tasted great but was also beautifully plated. Overall, a great experience and easy to see why there is a long wait. read more

This Thai place is super cute - I love the interior decor! We came in a weekday during dinner time and it was quite busy. They do accept putting name on waitlist though so we didn't have a wait. It was overwhelming looking at the menu because there is SOO much variety with both northern and southern Thai dishes. My favorite dish was the khao soi - the noodles are perfect texture and sauce/soup was delicious!! I also loved the papaya salad which was so refreshing and really enjoyed the crunch of the cashews. The chicken skewers were slightly dry. I'd recommend getting mild or no spice if you can't handle spicy as the medium spicy curry was pretty spicy for me. read more

The service at this restaurant was phenomenal. Me and my mom were hungry after a long day of Christmas shopping and events and we decided to go get Thai food as many of the locations nearby were closed and I had heard about this place through some videos on Instagram. We ordered two plates and split a main dish as we were kind of full from our festivities, but everything was so delicious. The fried enoki mushrooms were super scrumptious and kind of reminded me of fried chicken in terms of texture--BUT the star of the show had to be the crab curry with the softshell crab! Mind you I have never had a softshell crab before in my life, so I was unsure how to eat it, but every bite was wonderful, and I savored everything. Forgot to take a picture of my Thai Tea, but that was really good too! I'll be definitely be back, as I want to try more dishes on the menu! We decided to come here to celebrate a coworkers birthday and we were all delighted on how tasty the food is here. The place is small and quaint, cute decor and the atmosphere was very inviting. As soon as we got sat down at 11:30 am and ordered our food, it felt like everyone else followed. The restaurant got packed very quickly. For starters we had both styles of their papaya salad which once is Thai style Som Tum Thai and the other is Lao style Som Tum Poo Plara. I personally preferred their Thai style salad. The Lao style was too much fish sauce for my taste buds. We also had the Nam tok Nure (Beef salad) and that was extremely flavorful and a group favorite. We all decided to do family style so we can try everyone's dish and that was definitely a win. We ordered chicken Pad Thai, shrimp Pad MAMA, Branzino Lui Suan, and Tom Kah (coconut curry). We also wanted to taste their mango sticky rice and OMG love love love. And of course we had the Thai tea to wash all this down. Everything we had was super delicious.
