Literally the best Thai i've found in Austin after moving here from CA 3 years ago!! The flavors are the perfect amounts and spices so rich! I also love their heat levels are really accurate. I got the chicken pad thai, level 3, and it was the perfect amount of heat- hot but not making me sweat hot LOL. Also had the Panang curry level 4 and was the perfect amount of sweetness and spice. I ordered through Uber Eats. This was my first time trying this restaurant. Oh my goodness! My food arrived piping hot, the spicy level was perfect. I chose a level 4. I am thai and I would say this place has a really authentic thai food! Took my co-workers to lunch today and everyone are really happy with it. I got boat noodles and kao mun kai. Both dishes are hard to find at other thai restaurants. They were delicious. My co-workers ordered pad thai, very good, pad woonsen, like how my mom makes it, and wonton soup, very yummy and comforting. My sister in law suggested this place and was raving about it and maybe they just had an off day but I thought their pad Thai was so bland and really had a fish forward taste. I wasn't a fan. However, I will say their crab rangoons were the best I've had in a long time. They stuffed it well with crab meat and not just cream cheese as other places do. I think next time I'll just go for the rangoons and save my actual meal for another place. Or I'll give it another try. :) read more

My family and I came here for dinner. We started off with the A3 Lada's Goyza. You have a choice of steamed or fried chicken and vegetable dumplings. We end up with the fried. They came out made to order as they were hot. They're drizzled with their special mayonnaise and topped with green onion. To me , the dude was kinda little but still good. It was 5 dumplings for $5. For my entree, I ordered the R1 Pad Kra Pow. It's s rice dish with stir -Fried choice of meat, bell peppers, mushrooms, Thai basil, with house basil chili. I ordered the pork. It came out pretty fast and the pork is minced. Very flavorful. You can choose the spice level and I picked the 3. My only suggestion is I feel like they could have added more to the plate - $12 bucks for this dish . My daughter ordered the N2 PadSeEw Flat rice noodle stir-fried with eggs, Chinese broccoli and mixed soy sauce, however you can sub out the Chinese broccoli for American broccoli. The flavor was great but the noodles were soggy and not how we're use to eating which would be the downfall on this dish. My fiancé ordered C2 Yellow Curry rice dish with creamy coconut milk, cubed potatoes, diced yellow onions with chicken. He said this was very delicious as he ate this on less than 5 minutes. lol We will be back to try other dishes! read more

Amazing food and amazing people who run this restaurant. Ben and Char are just the nicest people! Came here for dinner with hubby and a friend and tried an array of foods and every single dish was amazing. I went out of my comfort zone and ordered the boat noodle, which is a pork blood based soup with pork and beef broth. It was amazing. The amount of spice and flavor in that broth blew my mind, no metallic taste from the pork blood at all, it also came with fried pork skins that I tossed in with the broth, soaked up all that flavor and YUMS. My hubby loved his curry dish, and the chili paste on the edamame blew my mind. Great service, super cute patio area with pretty lights at night that's puppy friendly. Great spot! I had this before cause my wife ordered it and it was semi warm leftovers. Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed, but it was still good. Today, however, we ordered it today. I had the red curry...goodness! If you like curry, get it! Spice lever between 1-5. I like spice and got a 4, not hot at all. Next time I'm trying 5. Long story short, this is a go-to! This place was amazing. The service was top notch, she was super sweet and patient. We ordered 3 appetizers; egg rolls, crab ragoons, and coconut shrimp, we enjoyed all 3! We ordered Pork Pad Thai Noodles, Beef Kugai noodles, Crab fried rice & chicken/pineapple fried rice and all were so delicious! My reason for 2 stars and was torn about how many... simply because of the grime. I'm not a fanatic; but I really do appreciate cleanliness. When I pulled the chair out it felt really dirty I noticed. The menu was very grimy to the touch. And the salt and pepper shakers were absolutely the dirtiest I've ever felt. However I did find the food tasty and the service nice though slow. I could have easily given more stars if the place was to be sanitized really well and kept up with. I thought the food was lovely. Perhaps doing takeout is the right idea here. May opt for that next time. ..Or at least pack hand sanitizer. read more

I'm definitely gonna have to come back to try what Thai Lada is more known for (pad ka prow, khao soi) but for now, it's a solid 3/5 for me! While the food wasn't bad by any means, I've definitely also had better around here. I tried Thai Lada because the flavor is supposed to stray towards the authentic. I have to admit I've never had authentic Thai, but my main thing with Thai Lada is that the food wasn't spicy, and tended to be more sweet than anything. When I came, I got: tom yum soup, chicken satay, pad kee mao, and the red curry. For all of them, I would choose Titaya's over Thai Lada. The tom yum here is extremely tart, which isn't an issue for me, but the soup didn't have the full-bodied flavor that I usually like. It tasted more like it was made from water + bouillon than actual meat. Chicken satay was just chicken satay. Not great, but not bad. Pad kee mao wasn't spicy at all for me, when usually I love getting pad kee mao for the heat. The dish was also really sweet, which I wasn't used to, but the sweetness was fine, just would've preferred more heat. The noodles themselves were cooked well, which is a plus because a lot of Thai places around here overcook the noodles. The red curry, like the pad kee mao, also lacked heat and was EXTREMELY sweet. I think that a spicier curry would've balanced the sweetness better, but this one wasn't spicy. Like I said, I will have to try the more famous menu items to really round out my review. But, given that Titaya's is close-ish, for now I will only choose Thai Lada for proximity reasons. read more

Came here recommended by a friend. I was not disappointed. Service was good if you eat in just a little slow. The green curry I had was very delicious. I had the level 4 spicy out of 5 and it was pretty spicy. So be careful if you are not into spicy food. Also had the chicken satay which was very tender and flavorful. I have nothing but great things to say! We have drove by this place for years and finally had the time to stop by for the first time. As a Thai food lover I can safely say this is probably the BEST authentic thai cuisine you can have in the greater Austin area. We ordered the crab fried rice, Kao Soi, chicken wings, and sticky rice w/mango. Each dish held so many great elements that complimented each other, from the savory fried rice to the richness of the kao soi, to the spice. Chicken wings were INCREDIBLY CRISPY and juicy. At a level 4 "very spicy" the heat was definitely there, but the flavors of the dish overpower the heat factor making the dish absolutely flavorful and delicious. The staff was amazingly sweet and accommodating, quietly checking on us frequently without interrupting our conversation which I loved. The owner is super friendly, and, full of information about Thai cuisine. She doesn't use MSG and she grows her Herbs. Hey! That's what she said and I did see some basil on the cool covered patio. This restaurant focuses on home style cooking which is alright with me. Kinda like going over to a friends house and having their mama cook for you I reckon. I've had several of their dishes and have been impressed each time. The one dish that really deserves (ok they all do) a spotlight is the Thai Omelette that I had one Saturday. It's a omelette chocked full of pork, peas, mushrooms and carrots. It comes with a brown sauce for dipping. Squeeze a lot of sriracha on it and pig out! You'll need a fork with this one though. As I recall Thai's originally used their right hands for eating. Eventually they graduated to the fork and spoon, then on to the chopsticks. What Asian Country hasn't China influenced in some way or other in cuisine? Ooops! Got side tracked. Back to the food. Shit here is damn good. Plain and simple. I've loved everything. They are very consistent with the quality and freshness and the perfectly cooked veggies. They do them right every time. As for the noodles? Well, sometimes they overcook like Muangthai does. Another dish I want to give a shout out to is the Pad Kee Mao. This translates to "Drunken Stir Fry (Noodles)" and is a common street vendor dish in Bangkok. Another Chinese influence and it is freaking delicious here. This dish is so flavorful you can't stop eating it. It's a little more oily than I'm used to, but, it works. I get pretty much all of my dishes with soft (fresh) tofu and they get it right every time. Their spice level is a bit Americanized if you ask me. I've ordered level five here and it was nice. With a nicely decorated restaurant and huge patio (the decor is the same as the old Greek place), one has certain expectations for service. The service is languidly, but the Thai food is good. The service is what you would expect when walking into your Thai aunt's house for a meal, if you are lucky enough to have a Thai aunt that can cook. Be sure to have plenty of time to spare and you will be treated with delicious Thai food made with love. The chef wears many hats- server, chef, and cashier. If you complain, she might come out of the kitchen and "wok" you on the head. (OK not true) We came yesterday for lunch, with low expectations, and left with happy, full bellies. The lunch specials (about $8-9) comes with a soup, eggroll and entree. The chicken coconut soup has a great balance of chicken, sour, richness and sweetness. The eggrolls were fried nicely. The dipping sauce was a bit sweet for me, but nonetheless, tasted good. We had the red curry and Thai chicken basil dishes. Both dishes exceeded our expectations (I'm really not a fan of any Thai restaurants in Austin). The food is flavorful, balanced and not overly sweet like many Thai restaurants in town. There is a small language barrier, but if you get the chance, talk to the Chef. She is an interesting person who learned to cook from her aunt. She is proud that what she is cooking is authentic. The Pad Kee Mao I ordered was not very flavorful & the texture of the noodles were too soggy/sticky. They looked nothing like the pictures the other yelpers posted! When I heard Zakia's closed and a new Thai restaurant opened. I was eager to try it. It was a Saturday at noon. I was the only customer when I walked in. It smelled so good Actually I waited 10 minutes before anyone in the kitchen came out and saw me. Ordering a To Go, I had the Pad Thai, chicken stay and another appetizer that I can't remember. Taking a seat to wait, gave me some time to view the changes to the previous greek décor. It is nicely done in a more Asian theme. After twenty minutes, my food is ready. The total was about $20.00, which is a bit pricier than other Thai places. Back home, I try my feast. The chicken satay pieces were a tad on the small side but the peanut sauce was good. The Pad Thai noodles were stuck together making eating a challenge. Taste wise, it was kind of boring, no zing of flavor. Since I can't remember the other appetizer, I guess it wasn't memorable. We've been to Thai Lada a number of times since my review in July, and I wanted to give an update. Their outdoor dining on the patio is fantastic. Even in the summer, there is usually a breeze through there, so we've been able to sit outside a number of times. Nellie and Dallas (the servers) let us know their patio is also dog-friendly, so we'll be taking the pooch soon! One evening my husband dined there alone, and said his dish was a little more spicy than anticipated. He commented about it to the server after he'd eaten, and out comes Manna (the owner) with some fried bananas for him to "help cut the spice". Last Friday we went and Manna came out to visit with us again. She also showed us the basil plant she uses for her dishes. She prides Thai Lada of only having fresh ingredients. read more

We've been going to Thai Lads consistently for almost a year and half. It's been our comfort food when we didn't want to cook, or celebrate something with friends. Something changed between Feb and Mar 2016. The food isn't as flavorful, there's all new servers and the lady that used to come out of the kitchen who made the delicious food doesn't seem to be there anymore. I've been ordering the same dish every time, it's my favorite I know how it tastes and on our last visit it tasted bland,overly salty, less veggies and tofu. It was definitely not the same. My wifes red curry also didn't have the same flavorful experience she is used too. That was nice to know that there was no MSG in our food. I was a fan of the Thai tea which kept me on a buzz til midnight. Lemongrass soup (basically Tom Yum) was perfect. So we start with 5 stars. 1) Green curry chicken lacked spice, flavor burst, or green tint. Eggplant did not soak up enough juice to soften it to a point where the curry infused the plant. Nor were there enough plant varieties to make it a traditional green curry. 2) Pad Thai required generous servings of sriracha and lime to create the zing and fling of the noodle dish I am used to in Thailand. I am easy to please when it comes to dirtying a dish with Sriacha and lime, but I was disappointed. This was not authentic, and though I can see the trend here with Austin 'going local' with 'local ingredients', and that it's as good as Thai food might get here, I still stop the buck here. It's simply not good enough. I know they can do better. It's very difficult to make bad Thai food, but hard to perfect. The meal was decent, but I'm not making the pit stop in this random road to grab a bite any more. Make your way down the 45 to Thai Spoon and give them a shot. read more

I had lunch here today with my wife. First the bad...the place is overly aromatic. my wife and I coughed a bit and so did some of the other customers. It was not too bad to me but I could see that it might be a turn off to some. Second the waitstaff is inexperienced. However, I see this as a "growing pains" type thing and should take care of itself in a week or so (although I keep hearing Chef Robert in my head "You don't know your menu?" :-). Last the menu print is really small. On to the good... The place is adorable. They are doing a good job of transforming the Zakias (the old restaurant here) look into a elegant modern Thai look. The lunch menu has a good election of food. I was happy to see they have good mix of non spicy hot and spicy hot food. I ordered the Gang Dang curry which was nice and hot (I'd call it Thai-medium). My wife ordered Pad Pak (stir-fired veggies) which was mild and flavorful. The lunch meals came with the soup of the day, a yummy radish chicken soup, sweet and sour coated vermicelli, and an appetizer. I ordered the fried sweet corn and my wife ordered the pork wontons. Both were freshly prepared and delicious. The appetizer portions were large enough to share. The lemon grass tea was sweet and excellent. It was very refreshing with the spiciness of my dish.
