Alright I have a lot to say about this visit. I went for dinner around 7pm, with a +1. When we got there we were sat near the kitchen and bar, towards the back of the restaurant. We ordered the Thai Cold Rolls with Mango, the Thai Yellow Curry with Chicken, and the Pad Thai also with Chicken. Everything was great though the first course but when the entrées came there was a hair (not mine or +1) in the Pad Thai. Luckily, neither of us had eaten any yet, they took it away and offered to have it remade. They also pitched in a Thai Milk Tea as a sort of apology, to which we agreed to both. Servers didn't seem too concerned about the whole ordeal. So, I think that it was overall a pretty mediocre experience. The food was okay, and service could have been better. Waitresses didn't seem to care that much, and were gossiping right behind us. I brought my parents to try the place out since they love Thai food. They had essentially tried many Thai food restaurants already. They liked the place and wouldn't mind coming back again. The service was great and very helpful when we weren't sure how big the dish was. The staff were friendly, always making sure we had everything we needed. All the food was great, but I don't think I will order the appetizer platter again as it wasn't much for us to eat. Still good, but I will order for 4 people instead of the order for 2. I would have to say I love their dessert. I always forget to order them when I'm eating at a Thai restaurant, and this time I remembered. The atmosphere is good, but if you have a stroller, I wouldn't recommend bringing it in as there isn't much room to put it. Unless you sit near the windows, you can possibly bring it in. read more

TLDR: This Thai place is basically a staple of Richmond Hill at this point given how long they have been here and I am so glad they are still around. I used to only get pad thai because that's all my family would try but as an adult, trying new items here has yielded delicious meals -[ICED PANDAN GREEN TEA] $6.95 A little on the sweet side but in fairness, I didn't ask them to adjust the sugar level at all. Super tasty and refreshing! -[GRILLED PORK BELLY SKEWERS] $16.95 Comes with four skewers, a side of pickled vegetables, and a delicious sweet sauce to dip them in. In all honesty, the pork belly was well grilled so the each piece had a tasty smokiness to it and each piece remained tender and juicy. I did try it with the sweet sauce on the side and it also paired well that way -[BOAT NOODLE - BEEF] $17.99 Never had boat noodles before but now I want them all the time :D I wanted to order the versiom that had more than just beef in it but I think I ordered incorrectly as that is the version I ended up with. Regardless, it was so tastu that I wish I could have ordered extra noodles haha. The spicy sauce that comes on the side really packs a punch but I could imagine it woud have elevated the soup's flavors if I didn't inhale the bowl of them prior to realizing thee was a side of spicy sauce. -[YOUNG COCONUT ICE CREAM] $7.95 Always a great way to end a meal by ordering dessert! Coconut is one of my most liked flavors for ice cream so seeing this on the menu meant I had to get it. Loved that there were little pieces of coconut in every bite Service was amazing as they were thorough in answering questions about allergies and possible allergens in different dishes. Everyone there also was really kind. I will say one of the customer tables had a menace of a kid running around/throwing food onto the floor but that's the fault of the four adults in their own family not teaching their kid how to behave. Had dinner with 3 other friends last Sunday night. Service was very tentative, quick and friendly. Our waiter, Ping Pong, was amazing! Food was tasty and hot. It was a bit too cold in the restaurant Would recommend and will go back for sure. One thing to improve on is to mix the Pad Thai dishes before bringing them out to the table. I heard this restaurant has received the Thai Select award so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is pretty cozy, good for groups up to 6 people, and there's a semi-private area near the window as well. We really enjoyed the Pineapple Fried Rice, Khao Soi, Green Curry, and Pad See Ew, and even the leftovers taste great! Overall the prices were quite reasonable as well. It comes with 4 dishes for $80: three appetizers (mango salad, rolls, and chicken skewers), tom yum soup, paid thai, and a choice of curry (we picked beef brisket curry). The portion sizes were big (we had leftovers). Every single dish was amazing and recommended - full of flavour. My only complaint is my stomach size as I wanted to try their mango sticky rice which looked amazing as well, but I was stuffed! Starting with the mango salad, the mango pieces had a satisfying crunch to it. Doesn't have the sweetness to a mango, but the sauce used was good. The rolls were very crunchy as well and came with the peanut and chilli sauce. Im very biased about chicken skewers and this one hit the spot - juicy and soft! I dipped it in the sauce for the rolls as well and it was delicious. The next dish to come out was the soup. They actually serve it over a fire to keep it hot throughout the meal. Again full of flavour, delicious, a kick of spicy to it. The beef brisket curry was amazing! I wasnt expecting much from it, but the beef literally melted in my mouth. The curry had great flavour. There was a vegetable in it that was delicious (Im not sure what it was - not potato, not parsnip?, something but delicious). Finally the pad thai was amazing. Not a good comparison point but better than thai express for sure. I honestly cannot pick a favourite and even writing this review I now want to go back to eat here again just remembering the taste . The portion size of the Khao Soy was very reasonable, but there wasn't much pieces of chicken. The seafood in pumpkin is now $40, just a year ago it was less than $25. Did the price for seafood go up so much? No, not really. Ordered the yellow curry and....mango chicken and...pineapple rice. This location is wonderfully decorated with distressed wood throughout that beautifully divided the seating area. For covid reasons, additional plexiglass installations were placed. I enjoyed the design of this space between the tables, right to the washroom. There was much thought and investment in designing the space. I think the most memorable part of the experience is the high energy staff carried at 9pm. And the frequent " and thank you....and thank you so much" that would be repeated over a dozen times. It's quite charming. I think the only odd thing here is the yellow curry was not served by default with rice so you have to make a side order if you want white rice. For an uptown location, not bad. Almost as good as this thai location downtown. I'll take this over fighting for downtown parking any day. read more

Ambiance: 4/5 - Interior is pretty, dimly-lit, and clean. I love the pastel colored plates they got, and high quality silverwares. The only thing that was annoying was there's multiple staffs coming around asking us if we are ready to pay when we already did. Felt like they are rushing us to leave. BLUF: Authentic Thai place with upscale interior decorations and designs, so solid spot for dinner. The curries are only the greasier side, so avoid if you are looking for something light. I would recommend the Khao Soi noodles or the grilled chicken, they didn't look that greasy when my boyfriend and my friend got it that night. I am a regular at Basil Thai. I have been coming for many years. They are by far one of the best Thai restaurants that I go to. They also cater to people with dietary issues. I am able to also eat gluten free here as well. Today, I am having the Panang curry chicken. I have the option of white or dark meat. The food is excellent. The visual appearance of the food is fantastic, the food is perfectly spiced. The staff is exceptional in how they deal with staff, and the food is both delicious and consistent. It's good every single time. I can't think of any way they could improve the presentation of the food, or the experience they provide. I am treated well and the staff has served myself and clients well for many years. Try the dessert rice, it is beautiful and very well executed between textures and flavours. Recently tried this restaurant, the interior is nicely decorated with portraits and busts of Buddha, staff are friendly, and cozy. We ordered the tasting menu for 2 for $80. It is a great deal, it comes with 3 appetizer (chicken skewer, green mango salad, and spring rolls), a tom yum goong soup, a pad thai, and a choice of a main (price varieties) and we got the mussamun curry beef brisket with rice. The curry beef brisket was my favorite. The beef is very tender and the curry is not spicy at all and it goes perfectly with the steam rice. The skewer was also very good, it's juicy, and not too burned. For 2 people this is definitely a lot of food and great value. The "chef" whoever made the dish needs to be fired because their kitchen's cleanness is definitely a BIG red flag. I had to spit out a piece of steel wool scrubber from the curry I ordered and found hair in the "Tung Choi". The mango in the sticky rice dessert has gone bad and tasted like shit. Total of four dishes ordered and three of them were pure rubbish. The waitress took the curry and said the kitchen would make a new one for me. The roast chicken was the best as it was super moist and the skin was super crispy! it came with this delicious sweet chili dipping sauce as well. They recently added Khao Soi to their menu, surely check with the server when ordering. I am so used to visit East York and Downtown Toronto for a decent Thai cuisine experiences but now Thai Basil in Richmond Hill has it all at uptown . The decor and service both are comparably competitive with those in Downtown . The bonus is free parking and a few other chained stores around to shop e.g..Ecco, Global Pet Food, SDM and Starbucks and BBT cafe as well. I've been to the Thai Basil five times now and I just love it. I haven't had something on the menu I didn't love! The food is always presented beautifully with lovely spoons, forks and bowls. The restaurant is also very clean and authentically decorated. I ordered the Basil Eggplant and Minced Pork with a side of jasmine rice (extra charge for the rice). My husband ordered the Thai Chicken Green Curry with a side of rice (extra charge for the rice). Accompanied by warm sake and a Sapporo beer! I've also had their young coconut drink. Anyway, I went and picked up takeout for the whole family (plus next door at Mr.Zagros - my review is up there too). 1. Mango Chicken (it doesn't come with rice which I always forget and is really annoying so I have docked one star mostly for that) 2. Bangkok Style Pad Thai Chicken, 3. Thai Chicken Fried Rice (hold the tomatoes cuz tbh ew. Tomatoes in fried rice!!????) Everything comes in a pretty large portion, except with the chicken dishes they're kind of skimpy on the chicken. upside of that is it always tastes great. First thing that stands out is their above-average interior design. It's quite stunning and worthy of taking photos. There's even a rainfall system in the front that's great for Instagramming. Their pineapple fried rice is actually served in a half-pineapple as a bowl! Nearby patrons looked at my order arrive in amazement. The rice is yellow, likely from turmeric, and it also contains shrimps, pork?, cashews, and other goodies. The spring rolls are excellent here. They're loaded with pork, taro, vermicelli, carrots, well-seasoned and perfectly crunchy. The hot 'n sweet dipping sauce went really well with it. The pad thai is quite good. Not the best, in my opinion, but still very enjoyable. The noodles are al dente, so they've got a bit of a chew to it. The dessert I got is coconut ice cream with coconut jelly, black sesame powder and other ingredients. It's really good but feel a bit overpriced for what you get. Service is very friendly here. Lots of smiles, very attentive. If you get a seat closer to the back where the kitchen is, you'll receive faster service. Sitting by the front window is farthest from the kitchen thus wait staff tend to notice calls from the closer tables first. There are also lunch specials, i think every day of the week. I haven't tried them yet. This place is part of the Bayview and Major Mackenzie north-east plaza. Plenty of free parking here. read more

This is my boyfriend's favourite Thai resturant uptown. He used to go all the time in highschool and dude has remained pretty loyal to it....which means every few weeks he'll probably suggest we go here. It's pretty great though, so I'm not complaining! Menu has a lot of choices. Portions are pretty generous, and flavours are balanced/great. Our favourite dish is the Thai bbq pork ($12), and their lunch specials are great because it comes with a little tom yum soup and a spring roll. I love their tableware as well.
