Veggie spring rolls
Shubhi A.

3.5 actually, I visited them twice and both experiences are a contrast of each other. The consistent things were friendly service, large portions & best hot sauce! Green curry was too salty for me, they could not fix it when I complained, they just added some coconut milk or water I guess. Their Hot and Sour soup at the first visit was just so perfect and in second visit it was too sour. Spring rolls were amazing every time. Pad Thai, that I had for the first visit was really good. I might visit them again, hoping for a good experience, I really loved them initially.

This place is well nestled in North York which is their second restaurant after the one in Toronto. Compared to a lot of Thai eateries, this place is affordable for consistent quality food. They are known for their Pad Thai. Competition is pretty stiff with many restaurants in very close proximity. You can get a great deal for a meal at this restaurant on Groupon but the portions are smaller.$$

Soup and spring rolls as starters

Got a Groupon for Satay on the Road. Decided to try it out. The decor is nice and comfortable. Groupon has its own menu which is not shown on the groupon site. But it was not a bad selection of choices. Soup had a strong lemongrass flavor, pad thai was super saucey, chilli chicken was not spicy enough and missing the char kind of taste. All these are not necessarily bad things.. as i know some people do like their pad thai super saucey... but it was not to my preference. customer service was good as the waitress told me afterwards that they could customize to your tastes.. so for anyone who doesnt like overly saucey pad thai. you can ask for it less saucey. autocorrect is telling me its saucy not saucey... whatever....

Cashew nut chicken takeout!

So I've been going to Satay on the Road since I was born and I'm not exaggerating when I say it has NEVER disappointed me or my family (which is why we've kept coming back for 25 years!!). Among MANY dishes that I love, Cashew nut chicken is my all time favourite and I plan to one day replicate the dish to perfection I've never wanted the recipe more!! The service has always been so friendly and it's such a beautiful place as well with wonderful Thai artwork. It is a delight to call satay on the road my go too restaurant. Everyone I have brought here to try it is amazed by how amazing the flavor is and the quality of their food. You won't want to go to another Thai restaurant again!!! I hope they are doing okay during COVID and I'm ordering take out as much as possible! I even keep containers of their cashew nut chicken in the freezer! Stocking up! Anyways, I hope this review encourages you to try it out, please please do!!

Lunch special - crispy beef and venerable broth soup
Rach N.

This is a mediocre Thai place in the area. Good if you work in the area and looking for a lunch. The staff are friendly. Parts of the patio are shaded. I had the seafood in blackbean sauce and it has lots of veggies which I liked but only a bit of seafood. It tasted okay. The spicy sweet and sour soup was tasty. The spring roll was mediocre. My friend had the crispy beef special and it tasted a bit sweet and the pieces of beef were a bit tough. He usually gets the Manchurian lunch special - and he says that is better. He also had an iced tea which he said was sweetened with a bit of honey. Our total bill came to $~25 + tip Would I come here again? Only with work colleagues as it is convenient. Would I get take out? No

Came here with some colleauges for retirement party due to receiving a coupon for 25%. Unfortunately the restaurant owner had said that they could not accommodate our coupon but as an apology will compensate us with a few free appetizers. He gave us generous plate of spring rolls and Icecream as dessert. The food was so flavourful with generous servings. Environment was clean and service was excellent.

Sambal fish in chili paste. Not spicy at all.

I was dining solo today, so I only ordered one dish: the Khao Soi Soft‑Shell Crab, which was marked as a recommended item on the menu. The curry noodle soup itself was delicious, with that classic Thai‑style sweet curry flavour. But the protein‑to‑noodle ratio was disappointing. It was a serious noodle overload, noodles in the soup plus a pile of crispy fried egg noodles on top. Carb coma incoming. The toppings were minimal: a few bean sprouts and a small fried soft‑shell crab. The crab was tasty, but overall the dish didn't feel like good value for the price. It's something I'm glad I tried once, but I'd move on to another dish next time.

He had the fried chicken wings & said they were delicious. When I arrived I ordered the beef pad thai. It came relatively quickly & was really delicious. I would definitely come back & try some other dishes. Service I was surprised that my husband & I were the only people in the restaurant. Hubby said that they had been doing mostly take out orders. In any case, service was attentive & polite. There was a young man who took my order and another lady who was preparing things around the restaurant. It was relaxed and a nice atmosphere. Ambiance It's very colourful inside the restaurant. The walls are painted with cute designs. I liked it. The washrooms are down the hall on the main level. I didn't like how cluttered that hallway is though. I hope they clear away some of the restaurant supplies from that hallway to the bathroom. The women's washroom was clean. However one of the cabinets in the washroom was full of dust on the top. It's kind of strange because the toilet & sink itself were very clean. Overall I think if they did a few improvements I would rate the ambiance of the restaurant better than 3.5. The food & service were otherwise really good here. Next time I'm in the area I will come back & try a different dish.

They were able to accommodate us even though they were booked with reservations. We each got a main and shared the calamari and spring roll appetizers. The calamari came out hot and crispy with a nice side of their housemade basil mint mayo dip. The veggie spring rolls came out with a sweet and sour sauce that I found was okay, nothing too special. Our mains included spicy green curry, honey ginger beef, pad thai, pad kee mao, pad see ew, and the pineapple fried rice. I got to try a bit of every main and found the noodle dishes were on the saltier side. My green curry had a rich coconut flavour and had an ample amount of thai red chillies however I found it was not that spicy. The curry came out with rice and it was a good portion. However, I feel that I have had more flavourful Thai food at other restaurants. Still, Pii Nong's customer service and food was great and I would definitely consider returning to try their other offerings. They also gave my mom a small jelly dessert and food coupon for the next visit for Mother's Day which we all found very sweet.

I was told it was a fan favourite so I was very intrigued. Sadly, upon arrival, it could have used a better presentation - they put it on a big flat plate so it looked...kinda gross. Secondly, they didn't use Arborio rice. I get that that would've taken a lot longer to make but using regular rice was a disappointment. But after a taste, I was definitely wow'd by the flavour. I quite enjoyed it, despite the rice. Not sure we're going to be in a hurry to come back but it's worth a try!
