    Chicken Pad Thai
    Krestan K.

For a long meeting, at my work just down the road we ordered a bunch of takeout from here. Everyone was pretty happy with their meals and enjoyed them. I personally didn't love the chicken pad thai. It was a tamarind style pad thai, which I usually absolutely love and beats the whole westernized ketchup pad thai any day. But it was quite sweet, almost like in the movie Elf, when Buddy the Elf covered his spaghetti in maple syrup. Too sweet. It was also quite a wet pad thai, which is ok. But I prefer my pad thai on the dryer side. Usually I'll have to stop myself from eating the whole thing, but I could only finish half. Which was disappointing. My favourite part was the insane amount of bean sprouts. I ate every last one. The sweetness of the sauce kind of worked well with it. I don't recommend the pad thai here. But everyone else had a great meal. So I'm giving them 3 stars on behalf of my coworkers.

Red curry chicken with spring role and rice lunch special
    Johnny S.

Hello fellow foodies I have been to this place twice before this occasion , and my experience has not changed as far as rating is concerned . Let's start with location it's in a small plaza with plenty of parking and easy to find, small restaurant more of a takeout place but they seem to have a busy eat in lunch crowd. Food 4/5 has been great all 3 times I have been there ,I normally order there chili chicken which is always fabulous , they always give you the option of spice level which is very nice , on this occasion I ordered there red curry chicken with rice , it was very flavorful, very saucy, a nice rich creamy peanut sauce with a hint of curry , mixed with green peppers big pieces of onions and peas perfectly cooked tender chicken you also get a veggie spring role and dipping sauce with there lunch special for 10.99 it's a good price. I am rating the food a 4/5 only because I have been to thailand and thai food presents alot of care and detail to prepare and even though food here is good its prepared more like fast food style so dosnt deserve a 5 star rating only for that reason , however no complaints food has been excellent everytime Portion size 4/5 it's not a bad sized portion but could be a bit more specially the entree part of lunch is small bowl as you can see in my pic the rice is a good amount though. The added spring role brings up there rating as well. The service is also a 5/5 considering that most times i have been there it's been lunch hour and they were busy it never took more then 5 minutes to have the food ready out to my table , the staff is friendly and efficient in the kitchen . If your in the area stop by this place well worth it for the value and food quality you get. They have some great lunch options at a reasonable price.

    Stir fried broccoli with chicken

So this is a small place but really good Thai food. I have had Thai food at multiple places and usually get the masaman curry and the vegetable spring rolls and this place did impress me. The spring rolls will really crispy and great to taste.I am not a fan of peanut so next time will ask for less peanuts to be added in the masaman curry. Good and fast service.the price is good. We also tried the stir fried broccoli with chicken which was equally good.

    Mango papaya salad
    Lee M.

Ordered the papaya and mango salad along with the cashew chicken. It's a small place in a strip mall that has about 8 tables. Order up front pay and have a seat or get takeout if you prefer. The mango salad while not traditional in the Thai sense was still tasty if a bit too salty. The papaya was sliced into thin spaghetti like noodles and there were chunks of tomatoes along with fresh cilantro, ripe mango, cashews, and peanuts in a light dressing. My SO's cashew chicken was ok although the large chunks of unpeeled orange in the stir fry was a bit weird. Putting the word "expert" in your name sets expectations that are tough to meet. A decent fast food court meal is probably more accurate with friendlier service than what you get at a food court.

    Penang spicy curry (seafood)

I'm not expecting fresh, made-on-the-streets-of-Bangkok flavour when I go to or order from Thai restaurants in the GTA, but of all the cuisines we have in our super ethnically diverse country here, Thai probably has to be the worst represented. I don't say this because there aren't enough Thai restaurants, but rather because there aren't enough good Thai restaurants. The majority are franchises, run by Chinese people, or in this case, Indian people. What's wrong with that? Doesn't taste the way it should, that's what! I used a 40% off coupon from TasteAway to pick Thai Cuisine Experts over Moonlight in Bangkok because it had a lot more reviews. My $63 bill became $37, and I thought I'd be scoring big time. Man, was I wrong. What arrived was not even $37 worth of food from any Asian take-out place. I ordered spring rolls (they were supposed to have all kinds of funky stuff in them, but tasted just like any other from a Chinese place), Penang spicy curry seafood, green curry beef, seafood Pad Thai and beef basil noodles. The portion... dayyum. I actually swirled a spoon around in the green curry, and for a moment... thought that they had given me a vegetable version by mistake. After a solid 10 seconds, a few sorry-looking pieces of beef appeared from the depths. Which, by the way, weren't deep. I honestly cannot say I have ever seen a smaller or more cheaped-out on portion. The same applied to the Penang spicy curry. A few measly scraps of seafood, and one... count it... one shrimp. The beef basil was almost all noodles, and the Pad Thai was the only dish that had a reasonable amount of protein in it. Once I got past the disappointing portions, I gave everything a taste and found that while nothing was authentic, or even close to it, I rather enjoyed the taste. Perhaps it had been a while since I've had Thai (or an approximation of it, like in this case), or that sometimes things can taste good without being authentic, but it was alright. Not full redemption good, but I didn't have to find something else to eat. I guess that's a plus? Of note, the beef was cooked well, the seafood (what little there was of it) was not overcooked, and the basil had a great flavour in the noodles. And while eggplant is not something I eat often (or remember liking), the 3 pieces of eggplant in the green curry were delicious for some reason. The Pad Thai noodles were not bad (not too sweet like some places), but had some fishy overtones that didn't quite go down that well. The peanuts they provided us were not crushed enough, lol. Would I order from these guys? Can I get a heeeeellll nooooo? Not even if $37 was the regular price, and pigs would certainly need to take flight at the regular price of $63.

    Their famous Chicken Pad Thai!
    Johnny L.

This place has the best Chicken Pad Thai bar none! It's a small restaurant located in a plaza among other restaurants. I was skeptical at first when a colleague of mine recommend I should try out their Chicken Pad Thai. Most of the chicken pad Thais I've had from so claimed "authentic " restaurants were always a disappointment. Either their pad thai sauce is too salty or way too watery. This place has it down pat and it's always consistent. Their portions are huge which will definitely fill you up. In terms of service, the ladies that work there hardly ever crack a smile nor do they offer the best customer service but I always get mine for take out so I don't really care. As long as my pad Thai tastes good, its all good to me. If you easily get offended by poor customer service, I would advise you to just shrug it off. If you love pad thais, I would STRONGLY recommend you hit this place up asap!

Just trying the thai green chicken!

Oh wow!! So staying in one of the hotels on North Sheridan way and needed a takeout where I could go and pick up the food. I ordered the Thai Green Curry and it was Awesome! It was Mind Blowing and in my books a 5 star dish....the sauce was a bright yellow thick and creamy finish. Not watery or bland...this dish was full of flavour surprisingly as I do not have high Hope's from green curry. It had lots of yellow and red peppers in it and eggplants that were of a perfect consistency.I am going to give the red curry a try too as someone has said something negative about it and I'll get back at yall!! I was also able to take some hot sauce from the table and pour it on my food directly before I took off with my takeout! The people seemed nice too:)

We never had a problem until Thursday December 4th This experience fell short of the expectations, we will not be returning. We are no longer going to promote Thai Barn as a" Hidden Gem". This location should be allocated for takeout only. Customer service is lacking in front end personnel. Our upset was a result. From past experiences, we were astounded that the $16.00 Margaritas were incredibly short. We were regulars and knew what to expect. We poured one drink into one glass. The Margarita was still an Inch from the salt ring. She came out with another of the same size. We celebrate birthdays and have been Regular CUSTOMERS for several years. When we pointed this out to server, she claimed that these were not the correct glasses. She was very rude, consistently arguing and did not try to soften the situation. We walked out! Never did this in our lives, walk of a restaurant in our lives. We were fortunate to get a reservation elsewhere and had a wonderful time despite the earlier disaster. They made over $300 sales plus tip, and we had the loveliest server. Thai Barn Na needs significant improvements in customer service. If she had not continued to argue the same thing she really angered us. Not once did she suggest she would take the drinks and offer an alternative, instead adamantly continued to argue with us. Perhaps this location would be better suited for Takeout only. It is unfortunate that it is necessary to write this to you.
