The flavours were perfectly balanced and the curry sauce was exactly what you would get in Japan. I also liked their dressing for the side cabbage salad which was a lovely sesame dressing. The food came out quickly and the servers though not having English as their first language helped out as much as they could. They were very nice and checked in on us a couple times. I've mostly ordered either pickup or delivery from this Katsuya location and the packaging of their takeout is really good! I love the katsu isn't overly oily and the flavours are nice. It's super filling to get even just the pain katsu over rice. My personal favourites are original (chicken or pork) and also ordering with curry. I've tried the fish katsu which was also really tasty, but definitely the more expensive option! Some day I hope to dine in, but for now, takeout has really been hitting the spot for my household anytime we're craving katsu. read more

Spontaneously came across this place on a Wednesday evening and there was plenty of tables available for the two of us. We were seated right away and service was really fast and frequent. We ordered the Red Carbonara Udon (spicy), Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu, and Karaage Chicken thighs to share. All the food came out fast, fresh, and crispy. We even had to let our food cool down before digging in! While we were there, the store had many orders for pickup and delivery. But I would totally recommend to eat in while the food is still hot and fresh! (Not sure how crispy the food will still be by the time you get home). They also gave out udon broth (miso soup was temporarily unavailable) which was yummy! One critique is that I didn't like how they gave out wooden chopsticks. Mine was flimsy and broke upon getting split apart and also I felt as if they gave out way too little rice. Things to note is that if you check in on yelp they give you a free soft drink! Very filling and nice portions so the price makes sense. The cheese on top of the pork katsu was great, and the crispiness of the fish katsu was incredible. There's not much to say about the service. The food came out quick and they got the job done efficiently and the order right. The interior is pretty and nobody was there when I went to nice and quiet. I stopped by Katsuya the other day for their 10-year anniversary special, and man, it brought back memories--I was actually at their grand opening 10 years ago! They're celebrating a decade strong with a $10 deal on their original katsu, so I had to check it out. This place is a Japanese fusion katsu spot, and it's still killing it after all these years. Walking in, the vibe hits you right away--industrial wood interior, high ceilings, super open layout. You can see every table in the place, and it's not huge--maybe 10 or 12 tables tops. I knew it'd get crowded for the anniversary deal, so I timed it smart: 4 PM for an early dinner. Perfect move--only four tables were taken, so it felt nice and relaxed. I went straight for the $10 original chicken katsu special. The staff took my order quick, and within 10 minutes, it was in front of me--freshly deep-fried, piping hot, and looking legit. They start you off with a miso soup, which was a nice warm-up before the main event. Then came the katsu plate, and wow, the presentation was on point. The plate itself had this intricate, neutral-colored design that made everything pop. It came with the katsu, a side of rice, some pickled veggies, and this relish-like salad. The katsu itself? Absolute fire. The chicken was juicy, the breading was crispy, and they didn't skimp on the sauce--thank goodness, because I hate when places leave you with a dry dish halfway through. The industrial vibe with the wood and high ceilings gives it a cool, modern edge, though it's not some massive space. It's cozy in its own way. Honestly, this meal was a steal at this special price, and even at regular price, I'd say it's worth it for how good and reliable it is. I'm giving Katsuya a solid 5 stars. Been a fan since day one, and this anniversary visit just reminded me why. If you're into katsu or just want a spot that's nailed consistency, this is it. Been wanting to try here for a while...I was disappointed by the service. When our food arrived, we weren't given cutlery and had to go up to the servers to ask. I guess they had run out of cutlery so we were given the plastic ones for takeout. They also didn't give us water or napkins, which we noticed other tables had. We basically had to ask for service each time. In terms of food, the katsuya was a nice portion and very crispy. I initially enjoyed it, but my stomach reacted poorly about an hour later. Love love loved Katsuya on my visit during my toronto trip! Wanted to check them out as other fellow yelpers have ranted about this place. so I took a detour to stop by on my way to view the city. I ended up placing an order for pick up so I wouldn't have to stop in to eat while touring the city, Food was ready upon pick up and included utensils and napkins inside. I ended up getting the carbonara and the brick cheese plates. I think I enjoyed and loved the brick cheese ones much more than the carbonara one. The carbonara sauce was lacking in just about everything if you ask me. There was no taste, just a cream sauce, no cheese or nothing! Make sure to get the cheese bricks if you do not know what to get. Staff was friendly and had everything ready for me when I got there. They also let me use the restroom after I paid. I'm always down for some tasty katsu, so when I was asked to have lunch at Katsuya, I was more than happy to check the place out. We arrived around lunchtime on a recent Saturday and the place was maybe half full. After grabbing a table with rickety, uncomfortable stools, I began perusing their surprisingly extensive menu. I finally decided to go with the Garlic Spicy Katsu ("Spicy katsu complemented with deep-fried fresh garlic") and I got that with the Pork Loin Katsu option. It arrived a little while later and it looked amazing. I mean, it's fried meat and plentiful gravy. What's not to like? This is one tasty dish. The pork loin was cooked perfectly and was impressively tender, while the curry sauce and the plentiful garlic enhanced the pork considerably. The other components, including rice and a lightly dressed cabbage salad, work well, too. I guess my only complaint would be that the sauce was just a touch sweeter than I would've preferred. I'm not sure why any sugar was added to this but it definitely doesn't need it. I'm excited to come back and try some of their many other variations, that's for sure. read more

I got the sweet potato and cream cheese tteokbokki. They had the sweet potato purée and cream cheese squeezed onto the tteokbokki which honestly looked a little weird. I mixed it into the tteokbokki but I found it too sweet. Not sure if their tteokbokki is on the sweeter side, but I didn't enjoy it that much. I mean, you can seriously taste the pork flavor, but not sure if I liked it. The silver brick katsu was delicious, but only if you like cheese. It definitely was cheese heavy with a thin layer of pork meat wrapped around it, hence its name, "brick." We asked for some soy sauce, but they said they didn't have any to give. Really? No soy sauce at a katsu eatery?? Then the staff said they had the soy sauce in a giant bottle, so they were unable to give to their customers. Kind of odd, I thought. First visit to the Katsuya chain and I liked it. This Mississauga location was convenient for us driving back to Western NY from Toronto. It's cozy inside, but tables were spaced out well and did not feel cramped at all. The music was on the loud side, but i'm getting old. I was also more concerned since we brought our 3 month old with us. Maybe I just don't like K-pop that much. The service was prompt and efficient. Food came out surprisingly quickly, despite a full house and also many takeout orders. It was freezing in the restaurant however, so everyone had their winter jackets on inside the restaurant. Turn on the heat guys! Pricing was fair, considering the portions. Even if you're a big eater, I don't think you will leave hungry. A lot of the Katsu options, looked pretty similar to be honest. Our group of three got the Katsuya Original, Sweet Chili Katsu and a Katsuya Udon. The Katsu is quite enjoyable and perfectly crispy. Both sauces were on the sweet side, which was a bit strange, but still enjoyable. The udon was pretty unremarkable. The accompanying coleslaw and daikon radish pair well with the sweet and savory katsu. Overall, a good dining experience (besides the loud music and cold temperature). We ordered Katsuya pork with various sauce. The Katsuya here is hard to beat in terms of the crispiness of the batter, softness, juiciness of the pork katsu. It's tasty from inside and out. Not sure if they have tenderized the pork using some fruit juices or not. - original sauce: a bit sweeter than other Japanese places to me. Ok only - hot spicy sauce: it's spicy per Western standard tasty though but if you love spicy food, you will like it - garlic chilli sauce: not very spicy and the sauce on the sweet side. Garlic was so crispy and it complimented the pork quite well - red carbonara sauce: smoky tasty flavor, really good, greasy thoighyou can get satiated really fast They make fresh breadcrumb themselves. The chef might be Korean (? i might be wrong but whoever it is, this katsu is something new and different). Definitely worth a visit. read more

My partner and I are big fans of Katsuya and we usually go to the Markham location, however we decided to give the Mississauga one a try. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the wait was about 30 minutes. There's a french bakery next door that serves as a perfect place to visit during the wait. Once we got our call, we got seated immediately after the vaccine and temperature check. I ordered the Terri Mayo Pork Loin for myself and my partner ordered the Honeycomb Pork Loin. We waited for about 15-20 mins to get our food as we had 2 full tables come in right before us. I didn't mind the wait however, the kitchen was super loud. Given the layout of the restaurant, the kitchen is open to the tables and we can clearly hear the meat pounding which made it difficult to have conversations with others at the table. Both of our dishes were amazing! The Katsu was crispy yet tender and juicy on the inside. I had mayo on mine while the honeycomb one had sweet and sour sauce, mustard and mayo. The sauces really elevated the dish. The Katsu also comes with rice, cabbage, ginger and picked radish. One thing I did noticed was that my rice portion seemed a bit smaller than my partner and what I got from the other locations. Despite that, my belly was stuffed afterwards, definitely worth the price. I would highly recommend Katsuya if you haven't tried it yet! read more

We ended up staying for about 3 hours and they never pushed us to leave once, even though we were just 2 people at a four person table. The Japanese sauce is average and taste very much like BBQ sauce, nonetheless still very delicious, but the carbonara sauce is to die for! This is definitely my favourite item on their menu. It's super flakey and crispy on the outside mixed in with their creamy carbonara sauce. 5/5 I also tried their red carbonara udon! Super saucy, super creamy with a kick! All I know is that they did not serve miso soup due to some "disruption in supply chain", but they offered udon soup instead. Certainly, not cheap, but the sauces are GOOD! And sauces/choice of protein is basically the difference between all the offerings. You get to choose pork/chicken/fish, then whatever flavour of sauce that you feel like. I ordered the Red Carbonara and it really hit the spot with a nice combo of creamy, tangy, and SPICY. Yes, there was definitely some heat to it! If you get takeout, eat dish is served in a bento box style takeout container. There is a separate container for the sauce so your katsu doesn't get soggy and it's more than enough sauce. I've dined in at several other Katsuya's and have ordered to go countless times but dining in at this specific location is definitely my favorite experience! Despite there being a snowstorm, my partner and I decided to check to see if they'd be open and were pleasantly surprised to find out they were. We already love Katsuya specifically for their Spicy Onion Katsu but again this location exceeded our expectations. The portions are incredibly generous, they kindly refilled our rice and soup and even gave us a delicious cup of Korean coffee to keep us warm during the cold weather.
