    Schnitzel and spring rolls

There's a reason Ginger has been around for so long...the food and service are excellent! We ordered the spring rolls, schnitzel and crispy chicken. All were presented very nicely with global inspiration. While I'll admit the interiors are a bit dated, it doesn't take away from how lovely the staff are and how delicious our dinner was. We'll definitely try it again!

Beef short-ribs expertly cooked with Kimchi roast potatoes. A unique, excellent tasting side dish that gave some balance to the rich meat!

Some of the best food we enjoyed in Niagara-on-the-Lake came from this restaurant! Ginger is actually part of the Orchid Inn, but there were many people who just came here for dining and we were glad to have gotten a last minute reservation. Because it was such a nice day, we opted to eat outside at one of their covered tables. They've done a nice job of converting part of the parking lot to accommodate those who feel safer outside, or to just enjoy the weather! I really enjoyed that they had mostly wine from the area. It is a sad statement that most of the restaurants in NOTL do NOT feature local wines! Our excellent and super-nice hostess Cindy told us that these restaurants feel their American customers prefer California and European wines. However, we opted for a Big Head Bigger Red Select bottle that was perfect with our fantastic meals! The table of four of us enjoyed a Ginger Spring Rolls starter that was perfectly fried crisp, but with no excess oil. Then the fun began! Two of us got the Beef Ribs, which were the best short ribs we had in a long time. My wife had the Coconut Curry Chicken, which was excellent, with a bowl of perfect jasmine rice- sticky without being overcooked! I was also tempted by the third dish, delicious lamb shank that fell off the bone! Our server was Seth, an extremely friendly and professional young man, who answered our many questions about the menu. As we paid the bill, Cindy mentioned Seth was one of her sons, the other was the chef in the kitchen. Covid had challenged the family operation, so Seth was also the prep chef! We could feel the passion they had in providing such a relaxing, warm, and tasty dining experience! Of all the places we ate, Ginger had the best combination of service, food, passion, and value for money!

For our first night in Niagara-on-the-Lake, we decided to make things simple and since people were arriving at differing times, our party of fourteen ordered take-out from Ginger. This review is only based upon the food, not restaurant service or atmosphere. While Ginger does take-out, they do not deliver the food, so upon picking it up, everything was ready and the people I interacted with were kind, although the bill was extravagant. It came out to about $30/person (including four under five year olds). The up side was that since we had such a large order, I was able to sample a great deal of dishes including: Ginger's Spring Rolls, Soba Noodle Salad, Lemon Chicken, Grilled Korean Short Ribs, Thai Style Coconut Curry (with shrimp and chicken), Grilled Pork Loin and the Vegetable Stack. We also requested a chili paste to accompany our meal and the chef brought out something he'd made that day with a spiciness warning (I have a strong spice tolerance, but this "spicy" sauce was NOT spicy at all). The meal as a whole was "A-OK". The Spring Rolls and Soba Noodle Salad were disappointing in flavor. The Lemon Chicken, Thai Style Coconut Curry were flavorful, but nothing that you haven't tasted before. However, I did prefer the shrimp over the chicken for the coconut curry. As for the Korean Short Ribs, they were very flavorful but the meat was too tough. The Grilled Pork Loin was my favorite item from the menu, I would recommend and order that dish again. Ginger was great accommodating a large take-out meal and having things ready on time. However, overall, for the portion size and flavor of the meal as a whole, the price tag doesn't add up for me. I can't say I'd recommend visiting Ginger Restaurant and wouldn't rush back in the future.

I had the prix fixe and it was the best meal that I've had in six months. The Thai chicken soup was creamy and perfectly spiced for a cold night. When the duck arrived as a main, I had to put down my book to enjoy it properly. It was perfectly balanced. A slightly sweet glaze that hit you just after the flavour of meat had melted away. Each of the side vegetables were perfectly cooked... even the sprouts. The dessert was perfectly done: a simple Crete brûlée. The service was professional and attentive, but not overbearing. I was concerned a bit about the price for the fixed menu, but it was definitely worth every penny. I look forward to returning to try their regular menu. Highly recommended: the chef is a rare talent.

The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

We stumbled upon Asia Fusion and I'm so glad we did. Not sure what the ambiance is because as mentioned the order was made for delivery. But I will say the food and packaging was top tier. I love when my food is hot on arrival. I ordered one order of the Pad Thai with chicken, two orders of salt and pepper shrimp and one order of Hakka fried rice. Ordered the fried rice because the menu didn't indicate the shrimp would come with rice but it actually came with a side of white rice. Also ordered one ginger ale. The order was roughly $75 CAD/ $55 USD. The salt and pepper shrimp came with sautéed onions , peppers and carrots. I loved how the veggies still had a nice crunch to them. I don't even like spicy food like that but I couldn't stop eating it. The Pad Thai was the perfect ratio of chicken, noodles, bean sprouts etc. I really hope the locals are patronizing this business because they are good at what they do. I definitely recommend.
