There's a new Thai restaurant in Pickering and it's really good! ThairoomGrand opened their doors on February 14th, Valentine's Day and I was one of their first customers. The decor and ambiance are invitingly fresh and tasteful, with ferns, orchids, and a pink blossoming tree (all artificial) serving as a room divider. Dining solo, I chose the Pad Kee Mao with Chicken. It was cooked perfectly delicious with great flavour and texture on the noodles. This is easily the best Thai food I've had in Pickering! I'll definitely be back! Check them out in the SmartCenters Plaza on Brock Rd!

The interior is beautifully decorated. They share the same building/front door as Gabby's (the pub) which I haven't ever seen before. Anyway, we ordered an alcoholic thai ice tea which was tasty. The Khao Soi was disappointing. I've had so much better khao soi in a handful of other thai restaurants. I had chosen to add beef and the meat was just too lean and dry. The best thing we ate here was probably the mango sticky rice. I would definitely come back to have that again or get it take out. The staff were all extremely friendly. The restaurant was packed and many large groups for parties as you can easily make reservations online. Lots of ample parking in the designated lot.

service is great, Food Also Good however it's a bit pricey. Great location considering we normally drive farther for Good thai Food.

I had their Rou-Si Pork noodle soup, one of my favourites. It was delicious, with rich flavour. It hit the right spots and satisfied my craving. While dining, the couple at the next table struck up a conversation with me and offered to share their dessert. Yes! I couldn't resist the Fried Banana, one of my favourites. Thank you! Besides the great tasting food and friendly service, diners received a gift from the restaurant to commemorate their anniversary. Thank you and congratulations to Jin's Mi-Fen! Jin's Mi-Fen hails from Hunan's Changde City in the northwest part of Hunan Province in China. The restaurant itself has a nice bright interior with plenty of seating. I was seated quickly and given the opportunity to ask the server if you have any questions about ingredients. The server recommended the most popular item on the menu which was the Signature Spicy Beef Double Up, 招牌双拼牛肉粉 , where it's a combination of 2 different kinds of beef, cooked 2 ways. M2. combined together with M3 on the menu. M2. 酱香牛肉粉 JIANGXIANG BEEF LOIN (STRIPLOIN) M3. 津市麻辣牛肉粉 - MALA SPICY BEEF JERKY (EYE ROUND) The server forgot to mention that this dish is recommended with soup on the side. She mentioned that the Signature Spicy Beef Double Up is spicy and said that, even when customers opt for a mild spice level, it does contain spices. She recommended to request no spice if you're unsure of spice preferences. Good advice. I like it hot and spicy, and in the end the cautious approach failed to deliver the requisite heat. I ordered 2 different soups using the table's QR Code sticker. M5. 番茄牛腩粉 - TOMATO BRAISED BEEF BRISKET M1. 招牌双拼牛肉粉 - SIGNATURE DOUBLE BEEF You get to choose the noodles and spice level ahead of time. For being the most popular MUST TRY choice among customers the Signature Spicy Beef Double Up wasn't my most popular choice. The broth was watery, salty and lacked spice. On the bright side, springy soft noodles and pickled vegetables were the MVPs, with the pickled vegetables adding a nice sour and crunchy texture. The Original beef brisket noodle tomato soup was a favourite! The sweet-tangy flavour of the tomato went well with the tender soft and chewy beef brisket. This one's a winner! 老配方牛骨牛肉真實熬湯 . They make their soup in house from an old-fashioned 400-year-old recipe which uses real beef bones, no MSG, and 24 herbs. When you are ready to pay the bill, there are a few steps to walk down to get to the bar area. I had a nice chat with the really friendly people who will cash you out. Glad to see this authentic Hunan style mi-fen noodle restaurant open in Durham!

It comes with 1 hot clay pot rice, 1 soup noodle, and a decent sized snack. A few choices for each of these items. Check the menu out. Honestly can't ask for more and this is why it gets jam packed easily at lunch time. Good news is that people are usually eat-and-go without sticking around for long. So even with the crowd, you might be able to get a seat in 10~15 min during the busiest time. Alternatively, quite a bit of people simply call-in for takeout's and Uber. Awesome price-value, decent comfort food with great taste, jam-packed at lunch time. Not a bad choice.

Came by on a nice quiet week night for a bowl of comfy noodles. We had the stir fried pork on their…read moreregular hand pulled noodles to start. It was really oily, though the noodles were really nice and chewy. I found the pool of oil quite difficult to get past though. Next we got the classic beef noodles. We went for the flat, soft noodles which were great. As they state though, it gets really soft and mushy after a bit, so I recommend maybe sticking with the regular chewy noodles. The beef was soft and the radish was sweet. The soup base was comforting in a way but also very heavily salty. I couldn't tell if there was just a lot of MSG in there, but I couldn't sip on the soup much. We also ordered the shan xin bao, which is a fried soup dumpling of sorts. The breading was really thick and the soup was quite sweet. Not really the taste we were use to. We also got the pig ear and cucumbers cold dish. This was absolutely swimming in oil as well. They chop up black bean in there for flavour and it just added a really bitter taste. We didn't end up touching most of this, opting to bring it home, rinse it, and re-season it ourselves instead so the food wouldn't be wasted. All in all, the service is nice. I think the baked rice could be worth a try, but there's a lot of great noodle options in the area I personally prefer. As always, give it a try! They have a lot of great reviews on Yelp, so it potentially just doesn't suit my preferences.

We were quite impressed with the food here...it's actually very authentic northern style Chinese food. If you are not familiar with the food in this region, I can see why some people had negative comments. My advice to you if you are not familiar with some of their menu items, order the fried rice/noodles and fried dumplings and not items like chicken with ginger & scallion sauce. The latter dish is actually a popular Chinese chicken dish that is not commonly offered in Chinese westernized restaurants. I did see a photo of this dish on google soaking in oil which doesn't look too appealing so I would request for the ginger onion oil sauce on the side (maybe it's prepared in Northern style?). I will definitely try it on my next visit. We got the shrimp fried rice and beef brisket udon in beef bone soup. Both dishes were good and I was surprised that there were quite a few large shrimps in the rice. The soup base was a bit bland but the beef brisket was tender and flavourful. Highly recommend this dish if you are looking for comfort food. Make sure you ask for their chilli sauce which is great for the beef brisket! My favourite dish was #519 fried tofu...this was perfectly done and I requested the sauce to be on the side. The best way to eat fried tofu is to dip the hot crispy tofu with a bit of the sauce! The pan fried dumplings were only okay but they did serve it well with vinegar sauce! I will definitely be coming back on my visits to MAC U.
